Just want to say Thank You. Your video saved us $10,000 that is what the Dealer wanted to replace the transmission in our 2004 2500 Dodge truck. My husband and I are both 73 years old we were able to follow your video step by step and now the transmission is working again. Thank you kathy
Dude, thank you. this totally fixed an issue I've had for 4 years. all the mechanics I've gone to said it was the head. I said no way. You're wonderful. did the same on 2 other vehicles and pretty much the same issues. it fixed them. Single mom of 6 with 3 teen drivers. please keep doing your videos. you're very good at doing it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Seriously, I've learned so much from this channel. Never would have I ever thought that I could diagnose and fix my own transmission problems but this week I did just that. Thanks my dude!
How can so many people dislike this video? It's an informational video about a specific vehicle. It's to expand your knowledge. If it doesn't pertain to you, why watch it at all? I don't even own a dodge. I'm here to learn and expand my knowledge about the general mechanics of an automatic transmission. Don't dislike a video like this. It makes no sense
i just finished doing this procedure on my dodge durango. i was hesitant to do it because my my scanner didn't give me any codes telling me anything was wrong, but all the symptoms you described were there, thank you for you detailed video. I'm happy that I did the job myself because had a mechanic quote me a price for $500 parts and labor. and so far I'm $104 in parts. I say so far because i broke one of the bolts, but that least of my worries now that I know that my trans is going to be okay.
your channel has educated me greatly, I’m able to communicate w/my mechanic specifically to the serviced needed on my MKIV Supra. Because of you I change the oil, transmission fluid & done other repairs myself. When in doubt or want to learn on a specific topic I always refer to your channel.
This is how a video should be made, straight forward showed you every step easily. Great job!! Having the same issue so im going to what I learned from your video thankyou!!
Thanks for this video. I bought a '97 Dodge Ram 1500 8 cylinder three years ago. (love it, a real workhorse). Just recently, at 100,000 miles the transmission began to slip, but mostly won't go into overdrive. Sometimes it does - sometimes it doesn't. The gas mileage is still the same, though. So, I'm going to get brave and replace the pressure solenoid myself. Listing the tools you used is a big help - I like tools. Thanks again - great job on this video.
A neat trick I recently learned from another channel is to use a few cable ties through some of the bolt holes to hold the gasket in place on the pan. Once you have all the other bolts in place cut the cable ties pull them out and put in the final bolts. I guess RTV holds it in place too but it's not always necessary to use RTV.
Great job on this video. Excellent pin point instructions. Everyone posting repair videos should watch this and learn how a properly done diy repair video should be done. Great job👍👍
GREAT DETAILED VID!!! I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 with 42RE trans that is failing to shift(or slowly shifts) from 1st after coming to a stop. When trans is cold it shifts normally, but when warmed up it has the shift problem. I have heard from others these two parts(solenoid AND pressure sensor) are the first you should replace and also the trans speed sensor('99 uses only one). Thanks! Mike in LA, Calif, USA
Dude you are a hero. My 1999 Dodge Ram 5.9l would not shift it was showing the exact symptoms as this truck. I bought the solenoid because it was inexpensive and was full of doubt but when I got it in it actually worked it shifts finally props to you man
I look up videos to repair my truck and bike all the time. You sir, have done the best job I have ever seen! Great video, great explanations, great exactness, and you kept it simple for us garage mechanics. Thank you!
Thank you, I was about to sell my Jeep Grand Cherokee for parts as I had this problem. I changed out the components as described in this video and it shifts better than before!
Thank you for the information. My car had the same issue of not shifting out of 1st gear. This was years back, and I took it to a professional to be fixed, but thanks for diagnosing one of the potential culprits, which could save others hundreds of dollars. Your videos are getting better and better. Please keep them coming.
This is absolutely best video on this subject. I've been searching for about an hour and nothing was relevant or explained well at all. Thank you great job
Cool Video. I have the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.9 Eng and Eng light came on after jumping over a few road bumps, as a result, I got Eng light with 2 code P 1756 and P 0740. So, In search, i saw your video and from start follow what you recommend....... Start the truck with Eng light still on, checked the trans Oil 3 times, it was at the level where it should be, Than i went and shift the gear from P to N then to D after 5 seconds to 1 after 5 seconds to 2,...move the truck little bit each time on that gear and guess what? My Eng light went away! So, Happy. From now on i would go slow on the road bumps. This true, I am not kidding. Eng light went away. Even if in the future i have to go and change it, I would owe it to you for your great Video.
That code just refers that you have a transmission problem, it doesn't specify what it is. Look at the description for that code in the scanner, if it doesn't tell you a specific problem like "pressure too low" or something like that, take it to an auto parts place and have the check engine light checked, they'll give you a full diagnose of the problems
...great instruction, i enjoyed it. Only comment: when you were showing the console after plugging in the monitor, i didn't know what you wanted me to see...a pointer of some kind would help as you explain what to observe. Thank you, good job...and your voice was very clear to understand.
Soul-enoid is exactly what it is if that's what you want it to be called buddy I'm a mechanic myself and you I know actually do a well job and understand the engineering and technicalities of an engine or basic vehicle knowkedge you got a descent soul inside so keep up the good work over there
Simple to the point video! Well put with easy visual and verbal instructions. Felt like a student in mechanic 101 for transmission class. Congrats and have a good one!

Not sure if it's the same, but I now know transmission repair may be a lot cheaper than previously thought!
Thanks for giving the torque specs. My almost worthless Chilton's manual neglects pretty much the entire transmission as if it's just extra unneeded metal on a car or truck.
Great job very well done I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 4x4 I need to change the tcc solenoid truck will not stay in high gear any information on video you have on it would be greatly appreciated thank you keep up the good work thanks for sharing
Thanks brother I cleaned my solenoid and it worked as well did a dam good job of it with the change in filter exc. It all worked out and I pray that it continues to work... and did it all under an hour... thanks for the intell...
seriously good tip with that epoxy spray idea. why leave a 0.5mm scratch there which could create an annoying leak when you can just spray $0.20 worth of epoxy on there and wait 30 minutes? great tip. never seen it before.
Thanks a lot bro for taking out your time great video awesome detailed information really appreciate it help save me money. And put more food on the table for my family and help others in need God bless.
My chevy tahoe 99 does not go past 25 mph on D. I noticed it was empty on trans fluid and added 2 quarts. it wil drive fine on 2. would this video be my case here? thanks in advance.
@laneesha Well you're paying for the mechanic, you're paying the shop, you're paying the bosses. you're paying for a guarantee. You do that yourself, you'll screw it up and pay for even triple that amount. Or You can get a backyard mechanic, if you're unlucky, he'll screw it up even more.
Hello! Super video! I’m watching this because I just replaced my water pump in my 2002 dodge ram van 3500. It went smoothly and the van started and ran smoother than it ever has. However my transmission is not shifting into 3rd or 4th. Could I have knocked something loose taking the fan or belt off? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you for this video I’m having this exact problem with my car first I thought it was engine problem I have changed almost everything related to ignition still slow so now I know it’s the transmission.
most trans dipsticks give instructions on checking the level right on the dipstick...pause the video@ 1:15 or so, you can read it says to check idling in neutral on this vehicle.
Hi sir, in my case, my 04 tam 1500 with 5.7 hemi. When i put it on drive, reverse and 2-1 it wouldn’t engage untill i give it about 5000 rpm and the truck would barely move. Code is P0700. Please help
Awesome video!!! Tip Top!! I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado and it’s driving me nuts! It will only shift out of first gear after it gets warmed up. It will not shift out of first gear until I drive it for about 20-30 mins then it shifts fine. Please help!
well i have a 99 Chrysler 300 m i think a 42 LE transmission putting out code P1781, yet i do not know where the OD pressure switch is, if it's in the valve body and replacing it would fix the problem. many video's say if you have a question..yet no reply. I would go with a quick reply as "yes it is in there ,replacing it would take care of it"..
Hey hope your great ! I have a 1998 sentra, I shift into reverse it works perfectly, but when I shift into any of the drives it won't go, but at times it does catches drive, and then it's perfect till I turn the car off. When I turn it back on it does the same again some time I just put it into drive and accelerate really soft and it catches drive and then it runs perfect again, thanks for your help!
I have a question if my Lincoln MKZ 2007 is changing gears fine but sometimes when going to 2nd gear the rpm will go up to 3000 rpm and then it will go back down and change?? What should I do is that something to worry about? I want to change my transmission fluid bc it’s dark but idk if it’s gonna hurt it
I recently hit the median/divider. Hit the transmission pan and leaked oil. I drove it and still changed gears as good. I had to force the shift to Park to remove the key. Any feedback on what could be damaged?
good morning, i have a 2003 dodge van 1500 shift hard into first gear could that be the same problem and that a aamco trans gave me problems from day one please help thank you
I have 2000 z71 recently purchased. It will only shift into 3rd and 4th if you really get into it and then let off the gas and then hit the gas again once it's in 3rd it pulls strong you have to do it again to get 4th once it's in gear it pulls good any ideas?
I have an 2010 ford focus 2.0 . It shifts 1st- 2nd- and 3rd good but 4th gear does not kick in..i already had it scan and had to replace solenoid c, but it still won't shift to 4th gear. Can u help me figure out this prob?
I have a 2016 silverado motor and my check engine came on and the code p0796 is reading would I have to buy the hole kit or only the pressure control solonoid and would I need to reprogram my computer
Would this solenoid affect a trucks ability to drop into a passing gear? My 2001 Ranger shifts smooth, perfect, but I have no passing gear no matter how far I depress the gas pedal. Tx!
I have a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 2.4L GDI engine. My transmission is stuck in 2nd gear but I can shift it manually in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th gear when I'm driving. What do you suggest I do?
Hi! hope you can help me, I had a problem with my car a ford fiesta 2011 I just scan it and it has a code of P0700 and P0054 my problem is when I first used it today it only stays on the first gear but when I stop and turn off the engine and start it again, it shifts right as seems nothing wrong with it so maybe it might give you an idea too for what is the problem.. thank you
I'm getting P0731 on my 09 Jeep Wrangler automatic trans. Trans oil is dirty looking. I think I'm gonna change the oil and filter in it this weekend. What are your thoughts?
Hello, I have a question about my 02 honda civic ex BMXA automatic transmission doesnt engage and there's no codes. I checked the selenoid and all of them are with in range in ohms resistance and they all do the clicking when I introduce power. It used to go in reverse or in drive before it warmed up. Now I put it in drive or reverse and nothing happens. No MIL codes. I ran out of things to test. Unless you know anything else I can try?
I have a mazda 5 2006 and when start the engine I have to wait around 10 min so is transmission work at drive if I place in drive position when is cold the alarm AT cames on , and it don't drive is slippery until heat up for 10 min any suggestions
You forgot to mention about the magnet inside of the oil pan you can clearly see it at the minute 4:25 that is very important matter fact you forgot to put it back-other than that is a good video
I just replaced those 2 sensors and I'm getting the check engine light code p0753. It reverse fine but when I put into drive it moves slow, can you please help.. it's a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 5.2l

Would this solenoid affect a trucks ability to drop into a passing gear? My 2001 Ranger shifts smooth, perfect, but I have no passing gear no matter how far I depress the gas pedal. Tx!
Really good description I thought and glad to hear I don't have to do the taste test

Hello,
I have a question about my 02 honda civic ex BMXA automatic transmission doesnt engage and there's no codes.
Really good video, answered many questions I had about changing the oil.
Best tutorial I've seen so far thank you
