    I've always wondered if the shadows were sticking their noses into things with the Drazi 'election'. The initial description is that it's not supposed to be a lethal conflict, so what made it different this time? The "natural selection" line does seem to suggest a shift in perspectives about the contest, given the backstory for how it originated (not a spoiler). A long time ago, there were two separate types of Drazi that inhabited different regions of their world, one with a green tint and one with a purple tint to their scales. While they coexisted, it wasn't without conflict, until the purple Drazi eradicated the green Drazi. This was of choosing their leaders was subsequently implemented as a kind of outlet and commemoration of what had happened, in a kind of 'never again' sort of way. So it makes sense that it's not normally lethal, and what's happening now is very exceptional and unexpected. So Shadows doing some destablization of one of the more prominent League worlds? Just my musings, though.

    Vir talks about the currents of the Universe with 'Eddies and tides that pull us one way or the other.' This is very close to what series consultant Harlan Ellison wrote in the Star Trek episode, 'City on the Edge of Forever' (Spock: There could be some logic to the belief that time is fluid, like a river, with currents, eddies, backwash.) And Ellison had previously expressed the same thought in an episode of the series The Outer Limits, 'Soldier' (Time is fluid. The waters of forever close - and passage may not be completed. The present and the future are for a moment united. And the Enemy, half-today, half-tomorrow, is locked between…). That episode starred… Michael Ansara ("Elric" in this Babylon Five episode)!

      I've tried to encourage as many people as possible to read the three trilogies after the series is done because it fills in so much stuff behind the scenes and really makes a wonderful story so much richer with the details that you haven't seen. I was fortunate quite a while ago to have found the books at a reasonable price and then a friend found me the unofficial ebooks which has allowed me to read them a few times without damaging the original hard copies.

    There is sooo much more to this incident with the Technomages....it is revealed in the Passing of the Technomage book Trilogy... what you witnessed was literally the proverbial "tip of the iceberg". That and the other two Trilogies (PsyCorps/Bester & Legions of Fire/Centauri) put flesh to the stories you see in the series. As wonderful as the show is.... the books are kind of essential in my mind but you really don't know that you needed them until you've read them. Obviously there are spoilers galore in the books so if you do want to find them and read them I would recommend not doing it until after the series is completed. The physical books are harder to find now and not cheap anymore but if you dig around you can find the 'unofficial' ebooks.
    I can't recommend them enough, to complete the entire story.

    Green and purple remind me of a mix of flags and sports fans more than anything else. People use the example of political partisanship all the time, but political parties have policies that people agree with or disagree with. There's an actual meaning behind the colours and you choose to ally yourself with one party because you agree with those policies. It reminds me of a mix of football team rivalries and nationalism more than anything else - like your country, the colour is effectively randomly assigned to you.

      The parody of trivial differences leading to schism and warfare goes back - in the English language at least - to Jonathan Swift's explanation of 'Big-endians' and 'Little-endians' (who cracked their eggs at different ends) leading to the war between Lilliput and Blefuscu (a satire of Protestant England and Catholic France). Star Trek, of course, famously did much the same thing in 'Let This Be Your Last Battlefield'.

    For the record, Sheridan, like any hero in this kind of story, wasn't a lucky man.
    And the Drazi storyline was JMS's way of commenting on the basic stupidity of gang violence (I think. It's been a while). People exactly alike, hating each other due to the colors they use. personally, I think a sports team fandom is a more adequate analogy.

    • @JonesReactions
      @JonesReactions  Год назад

      Yeah I guess its more easily seen through simple colours of teams at football stadiums, e.g. black and white for Newcastle & black and orange for wolves and just because they are of the opposite team/colour they immediately dislike each other without even knowing the person simply because its their "team" against the other.

    • @UncleMilo

      If you want to read the 3 Techno-mage books, you can read them any time after S4E6. I like the first book the best though, as it has the most lore about their order. If you think you are going to want to read the other canon books, it might be best to start looking for them now. They are all out of print so even though you won't be able to read them for awhile, it might take a bit of time searching to find them at reasonable prices second hand online.
      _The Shadow Within_ and _To Dream in the City of Sorrows_ can be read after S3. _The Shadow Within_ is a precursor to the Techno-mage trilogy.
      Psi-Corp Trilogy and Legions of Fire Trilogy shouldn't be read until after the end of the series. If you plan to watch the spin-off series _Crusade,_ you shouldn't read the last book in Psi-Corp Trilogy until after that series.
