The air temple raid scene was well done amazingly well and Zuko is almost exactly like himself in the original so far, which I love. This isn't so bad so far, much better than the movie.
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.

Came here after watching all 8 episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix). It is a genuine masterpiece. Not only is it way better than the 2010 adaptation and learned from the mistakes of it but I love how it has everything we love about the original show while also giving us something fresh and new
So awesome to see both your reactions to this! I love that Cody is just a fellow ATLA vet and Nick is just along for the ride without too much nostalgia attached, great combination! Cant wait for more!!! 😆🎉

Good thing I saw the first episode when I did. My first impression of the first episode was actually positive, thankfully. I liked how everything was done, from the set up with Sozin’s attack on the Air Nomads, down to the ending when Aang and Co. start their journey. So much better than the 2010 live adaptation already!

I'm very much a newbie when it comes to the Avatar franchise; I've really only seen a few clips and have done a little bit if lore research. But I can definitely say that what I have seen is really, really good and I can very much understand the hype! I may or may not watch this new series, but hopefully you guys love it, especially Cody!!
It looks much more promising than the movie, but I have heard that there's some slight controversy behind it; they removed Sokka's sexism, which would be fine if it wasn't a key point of his character arc, and any other changes made caused the original creators to leave the project. This does concern me a bit, but hopefully it doesn't have such a negative effect on the show.
Yeah, the line "We're your family now" and the whole speech before about monk gyatso and the other airbenders was critical to solidifying her character and closeness with aang. There doesnt seem to be any groundwork for the realtionship between aang and katara yet, and if they change that part of the story I'll be pretty upset. I mean, you cant top that right? I dont see what they could change it to that would make it better and not worse 🤷♀️
Great reaction. I utterly enjoyed the series including this first episode. Interesting take about the final scene in comparison with the animated series. I found bringing in Gyatso to calm Aang much more believable and heart-warming than having Katara being the one to reach him. Like, they know each other for 5 minutes (I know, it's a bit more but still). I don't think it was the right time. First he had to come to grips with his loss and having Gyatso still with him as this fond memory made much more sense to me.
That being said, I felt the same way about Katara and Iroh through this first episode but especially with Iroh it got better quickly. Have fun watching the rest of the series!
It worked with Katara because they both relate to losing someone close to them, hence how they were able to connect.

I haven’t watched the whole series, but I’ve seen most of the series, as well as Korra! I do enjoy the series! I’ve also seen the first 3 episodes and it is good so far.

No one expected this to be as good as the original, but I am enjoying the retelling of the story in a different way. WAY better than the movie
No, you just had entirely unreal expectations, live action can only do so much to emulate endless animation possibilities, and this did a fantastic effort.
Excellent reaction! The depth of the story and the characters were well adapted and definitely pulls you in regardless of your expectations from the original series.
