I really like the change where Aang cries in Kataras arms rather than calmly apologizes for going all Avatar. That’s how a little boy would react to everyone he loves dying
Did you notice Appa brings Aang's glider staff? He has it in his mouth first time we see him and drops it like a doggy as he lands. I missed it my first watch.
Gyatso telling Aang he will always be his friend hits even harder when you realize he was good friends with Avatar Roku during his early training years at the Southern Air Temple. "Some friendships are so strong, they can even transcend lifetimes." - Avatar Roku to Aang
I actually like that they're changing it a little bit, after so many years of rewatching the animation seeing something new is much more fun because I actually don't know what will happen next (well obviously I do aha but ykwim)
I literally cried when Ang told Gyatso "Can you you keep pretending that I'm your friend" hit me so hard!! It's just too sad for me, but again this live action is very well done! I love it actually.
Can we talk about Zuko and his drawings? Between the ancient avatars doodles in his diary and this quick portrait of Aang when he just met him and did it from memory, he's really good.
Just finished the series and I LOVE IT!!!! I'm so happy with this, I think the hate comes from not being exactly like the original but I think the changes they have made are great and needed.

The series gets better as it goes, but Katara remains soft-spoken for 99% of the show. I never watched the cartoon but was familiar with the series and premise. With that being said I can't compare plotlines or characters directly, but as a stand-alone series, this show does very well at world-building and explaining what's going on so that I'm never lost or confused like I'm missing something important that was left out.
I love your explanation here and we agree that the world-building is absolutely amazing 🤩🤯 it’s hard to compare with the original animation but think this live-action series should be judged on its own. The actress for Katara… lol I’m trying very hard to be patient with her 😅 Thanks for your support on our channel! ❤️ -D
I was sort of scratching my head at Katara, but I think what it is is that her arc in LA is different in a few ways than in the OG. OG Katara was brash and loud and emotional, and learned discipline and confidence. LA Katara is starting from a withdrawn, sad state. No spoilers, but ultimately I like her arc and I think at least some of her characterization is intentional.

I did wonder whether part of the reason is that maybe child actors aren’t so likely to adlib or try to influence dialogue change. I think a lot of ropey dialogue gets managed by experienced actors who realise/know that what’s written can’t necessarily be made to sound good as is. In any case, I found that the dialogue gets much better as it goes. Episode 1 does suffer from an exposition burden, which I would argue is a necessary evil so that subsequent stories can develop the story with a lighter touch on the exposition. I think they gave us an awesome distraction while they filled our heads with info.
Katara's characterization is really a miss for me. I grew up with her as my favorite character, and it just feels like they don't understand her. Glad people are enjoying the show though and hope it draws more people to the animation. And even though I don't like the live action show there's still more Avatar animation on the way so I cant complain too much
It’s not the Actresses fault it’s the Creative Writing Team’s fault and the actress is doing the best she can. If the original creators were in charge she would be doing a better job portraying Kitara. By the way did you know the Actress playing Kitara is Native and not Asian at all.
Fun fact: not sure if you all knew this but in the cartoon the air nomad temples were segregated by gender but this adaption seems to have that both genders can live at the same temple and I like that
Much of the hate is from the fans' passion for the original. The live-action is separate, different,... it's own thing. You have to watch it as if it's your first time coming across the Avatarverse. No expecting, no comparing,... Which seems to be from challenging to impossible for the fans. If everyone did that the live-action would of been at the very least "Good", 7.5/10.
I agree, it is a solid 7.5 out of 10. I see some issues with the effects. There are some issues with the acting as well but nothing so terrible that it ruins the show. And it is FAR better than the movie that shall not be named.
that's because of the IP it's based on. the second season, and completion rates of the first season will be the true tells. Not saying it's not good, or hasn't earned those numbers. just saying it would have those numbers even if it was as bad as M nights version. just because people need to know. and want to see it.
@@AlgorythmfpvWhatever gets us through and to the second season. And gives the people involved another chance to improve with season 2. And hopefully get us to season 3.
Hey Meesh and Dee how it been. I hope you two day have been going well. The first episode was good. I like action/fighting. The Air Nomads fighting the Firenation was great. I like some of the changes that were made instead of later of getting Aang backstory. We get it right now as we see how Firelord Sozin and the Firenation kill the Airbenders in such a brutal way. Aang fighting the Firebenders was great as well. The Avatar music is playing as well the Sokka vs. Zuko was good. I like the relationship between Aang and Monk Gyatso. Which was my favorite moment of the episode. As well as the conversation with him (Aang) and Iroh. I like that they nail the personalities of the characters. Especially with Sokka not liking Aang the first time. Zuko anger. Katara is struggling to learn Waterbending. I like how they show the scenes of Aang, Katara, and Sokka arriving at thd Air Temple as it trigger his Avatar State. Even tho some hated this but I like how this episode was condensed with this episode focusing on the first three episodes of season 1. But anyway I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care and stay amazing.
Hey Rob!! Great way to start the series! Despite all the Criticism, we absolutely enjoyed it! We agree with all that you said here. The air nomads were so fun to watch 😍✨ have a great day
@MeeshDeeReacts Yeah, Air Nomads fighting the Firenation was great. I wish we had gotten it in the animated series. But I understand Nickelodeon reason for not doing it because Avatar is a kid show and keeping the darker tones down to a minimum so it doesn't frighten the audience, especially kids seeing someone getting killed. But I hope the rest of your day is enjoyable you two.
I don't have time to watch this right now, but I WILL be watching after work. I just finished the first season last night, and can't wait to watch your reactions 😁🥰
I mean. The one gripe that i have is that they seem to kinda smooth over everyones character flaws. Aang didnt mean to run from his responsibility. Sokka has no rudimentary sexist beliefs from the watertribe culture. Katara doesnt ever really get jealous or mad at Aang for his abilities. I'd honestly rather they still had these flaws so that they could grow from them. Or atleast aang. Agree with the take on Sokka that he still has a bit of misogyny. But Aang doesnt actually run away and then proceeds to get blamed by every character for running away.
It's just devastating to see such a peaceful people be burned to ashes during a festival of celebration of the very same Great Comet that was used by the Fire Nation to act out their first strike
I have finished the series and the acting, writing and everything gets better. Katara's actress eventually warmed up to her role and executed it perfectly in later episodes. I just subscribed to your channel. Love your reactions. You will love this series honestly. Netflix did well with this one
I love that you two are going into this with an open mind and not expecting it to be a 1:1 remake! I'm still watching it and what I've seen so far, I'm really enjoying! I like that even as Avatar fans, we can watch this show and still be entertained and excited because we don't know what to expect 😊! I've heard that many people who are huge Avatar fans like it more during their second rewatch because they're not stuck always comparing it to the original hahaha. I'm hoping for season 2, and maybe with 10 episodes instead of 8 🤞
I’m glad you guys like it unfortunately I couldn’t get past the second episode the characters acting were so bland and the changes felt very unnecessary. The dialogue felt too obvious and a little forced.
the little detail they inserted when katara bends going backwards in the animated series, probably bended the ice behind her instead of getting the boat. 😂
Animated series Katara words to Aang : Well, I just want you to be prepared for what you might see. The Fire Nation is Ruthless. They killed my mother, and they could have done the same to your people. Sozin's words : No Survivors. The children got the same treatment as the adults. We can see in this 1st episode how ruthless the Fire Nation was.
I’m so excited and so glad you guys enjoyed it!! I loved it too and is so sad to hear so many negative things about it. Yea somethings are different but the core of it is there. If people could compare it to anything it should be how much greater it is than the movie 😅 not how it’s not 100% like the show. Idk just my opinion 😊. 💙!
@@MeeshDeeReacts I can definitely see that 😊 you both are very good commentators! The way you give critic without totally bashing the art, even when you don’t like something, is a beautiful thing! Thank you for creating this channel and bringing us along 💙💙
We heard from the writers that they didnt get rid of misogyny so i expect to see it w suki. Made sense to me he wouldbt be that overt w his sister but warriors...come on thats a mans job. Havent watched 2 yet, a 9 10 and 17 year olds schedule is hard to coordinate but glad you all loved it as much as my fam did
they got rid of sokkas sexism and replaced it with overall sexism by having Suki's character become overly horny girl that becomes smitten with the foreign outsider that is going to "broaden her horizons" lmao
Yeah, it looks cool. But the changes made I don't like. I like SOME of the changes, but others make no sense imo. But visually, the show is awesome. 7/10 for me and I hope it gets season 2 and 3 and that it gets better!
As messed up as the scene is overall, there’s something respectable about Sozin acknowledging Gyatso as his equal, if not superior, and admitting the comet was the deciding factor.
Re: Sokka sexism thing. People have hooted and hollered about this, but I don't ... know if they've rewatched the series recently. Sokka's 'sexism' is almost ENTIRELY Season 1 Episode 3 (Kyoshi Warriors). He acts weirdly, suddenly, massively sexist for the episode, Learns His Lesson, and then you pretty much never see it again in the entire series. So, as far as I'm concerned, it makes way more narrative sense to drop it as a hamfisted unnecessary story beat. There are plenty of other ways to show him feeling a lack of confidence and being a bit green about the world in general without him spending 20 minutes being a knuckle dragging nitwit.
Agreed. Given the pacing of the LA it'd feel quite weird to get rid of the blatant sexism in like 30 minutes. I think that's also probably the reason why they chose to have Aang calm down remembering Gyatsu. Given their connection, it makes more sense than having Katara say "we're your family now" after what seems to be like half a day. 😅 Anyway, deep love for ATLA, enjoyed the LA despite not liking some of the changes. Now, I just hope it doesn't get cancelled because of the hate 🤞🏻
I think you are misremembering things... he was clearly sexist in episode 1 and 2 and its because he was raised that way. I don't know how anyone can call this live action a mature take on the show when its too scared to show very real things young boys are taught and struggle with growing up. Sexism is real and what you see as "sudden" and "weird" is actually you not respecting animation as a medium.
@@lotus2001 I wouldn't take it that far. It's true that's not just in that episode, but it's still just 3 episodes and then it just magically disappears. Which would still be weird in a live action anyway, since that kind of taught behaviour doesn't just go away in a flash. Also, yes, sexism of course still exists, but I'd say it manifests quite differently now that in the 90s when the OG show was aired. I honestly don't think it's a big deal, but can't argument any further since I don't want to spoil anything from the LA 😊
I really loved it! I just completed it and for me it kept getting better, it’s just really sad to see how people are bashing the series for no valid reason! And yeah katara acting definitely didn’t feel very organic but I still do feel like she embodies katara well and that she has so much potential!
Technically in the Animated Series Kitara was 14 Sokka was 13 & Aang of course was 12. But did you know the creators of the series originally didn’t have the.mm at this original age. Nickelodeon had them change their age.
The series is good but in terms of writing specifically some lines that are being said I'm kinda iffy about it. The acting as well isn't that top tier, buttttt there are a few that stands out. Acting can still be improve for the next season anyways soo it's fine.
Katara takes a while. Mae Whitman was such a strong voice actor she could carry the emotional weight of the original and let Jack DeSena goof off. In this one, the reality of war is way more concrete and Ousley has to be more the anchor of the group at first. Katara has a different arc. She (and the actor) finds her feet toward the end.
i think that sokka needed to be sexist in the show, when i was a young boy i looked up to him and when i saw the episode about the kyoshi warriors i respected women more...it sounds weird but some young boys can learn allot about that episode, that is why sokka should be sexist in that episode.
So excited to see your reactions! I've completed the season. There were some changes or things that felt weird at first. After thinking and mulling it over, I like nearly all of the changes, I love the characters. There are even some changes that I think make the story work even better. There are nitpicks I can make, but I regard this as a sterling success and desperately hope for two more seasons.
'better': the conversation between Gyatso and the Council flows a lot more reasonably. It doesn't seem as randomly 'BAH YOU ARE TOO EMOTIONAL' as the OG. In LA, I can totally understand where the Council is coming from.
Lol I love Meesh saying "Oh... interesting" every time something in the live action is different from the original animation's story. I really loved Ian Ousley's Sokka as well. He totally bodied the role. I felt some of the dialogue was a bit clunky with exposition. I watched the first 4 episodes back to back when it premiered and the woke up and finished the series. Excited to see how you two end up liking the adaptation.
I really liked it for what it was, and I really enjoy watching other people react while I still kinda chew on my whole big reaction, I did a spoiler free reaction on my channel already but I'm gonna do a spoiler reaction in the near future so I will definitely be watching these reactions and others in the meantime.
I will always quote meesh This ain't nickelodeon anymore 😂 Also in the anime series I don't think we gotten the battle between air and fire I'm really happy they did this
Great reaction as always! One warning, this does will actually have some spoilers (arguably) for Legend of Korra… so I hope it’s not too bad since I know you’re not done with that yet. I think the first episode overall was quite good, but my biggest disappointment with it is that they didn’t really show the early connection between Aang and Katara… minorly when they didn’t have Aang wake up and show his immediate crush on her, but more importantly they left out Katara talking Aang down when he saw Gyatso’s body by saying that they were his family now. (There were some other minor issues I had, but nothing too important in this episode.) But all-in-all a solid start.
Your reactions are so good!! ❤ It's a solid adaptation for me, they made a lot of changes which was expected due to the format, some work and some don't in my opinion, but my biggest problems were a few mischaracterizations, and I don't know if is the acting or the writing, but to me a lot of scenes didn't felt organic throughout the show. In the end I still enjoyed, would rate 6.5/10 probably. And excited to see a season 2 because I know they can improve, and I feel book 2 is easier to adapt also. 😊
We have the same sentiment so far too!! We’re half way through shooting the season and can’t wait to share the rest of our reactions. Thanks for your support 🥹🙏🏽❤️
the obvious problem i see on the show is the quality of writing just drops after the 4 epi minus the fire nation where the writing for the villans were more interesting and engaging than the main cast where there dialogue seems very stiff and uninteresting. the relationship between the main 3 is not visible it feels like they are together just to get to the north specially the relationship between aang and katatra is non existent and it really annoyed me alot. there is a lil bit of acting problems here and there specially when the heart string scenes happen but they are kids so idk. but the most disappointing thing about it is they did bumi and katara dirty just out right cxr assasinations lol. katara only becomes an interesting cxr in the last 2 episodes unlike the cartoon where she literally drives the plot. once i have that out of the way i kinda like this show the bending and CGI is phenomenal and the justice they gave to zuko and ozai is just crazy. ozai feels like a real person with his own motivation for what he is doing. he is better than i expected 10/10 for the royal family and Zhao except for azula idk what to feel about her it feels weird seeing her jealous of zuko i didn't feel her intimidating demeanor at all. so its a 6/10 show. we wanted it to be great but it ended up just being good. hope they make a se2 and drastically improve the writing and relationships of the main 3.
Thanks for your input and opinions! We totally get this show doesn’t do it for everyone. I agree, I hope they take the criticism and make season 2 even better! Nonetheless we are excited 😊

5/10 for me for season 1. They took out a lot of important things, changing things for the worst. The acting could've been better and Sokka's sexism is important because it shows that he grows as a person. They just took out the things that made Avatar one of the best shows ever. It's just a typical show now.
I dont think aang can actually fly like people keep thinking. When we see him for the first time he is gliding from one tower to another until he got low enough to catch himself. When he is at the south pole i think he is just hovering using air bending keeping himeslf as high off the ground as he can without his glider like hes sitting on a cyclone u just cant see it. And then finally at the air twmple at the end he is coming out of the avatar state and was floating down.
This episode really shows what they probably couldn't show on an actual cartoon - the serious genocide of an entire class of people. They really pull your heartstrings, and it's amazing. Giving the opening monologue to Gran Gran was a genius move - she'd be the only one old enough to remember her parents telling her stories about it, and potentially experiencing Fire Nation attacks on the Water Tribe herself. I checked the Avatar Wiki and it said Gran Gran should be about 80 years old. I was REALLY happy with Katara's acting - not only did she look awesome, but she had pretty appropriate dialogue. It wasn't perfect, but it was really good. Glad you mentioned you had a Patreon - I just joined so I can watch the full length reactions :) Keep up the awesome work, you two! 😁

Dallas Liu (Zuko): He began practicing martial arts when he was 5 years old and stopped competing internationally at 13 years old. Man. He has the chops.
Show has great visual effects and design. The actors are great to for their roles. My main problem this season was the pacing and the story went all over the place. I think they should have done season 1 into a 2 parter and remain more faithfull to the source material that way. It felt very rushed.
This one is honestly pretty hit or miss for fans but it's better than the movie for sure lol. I may not like the adaptation as much as others but I look the same way I do at the Star Wars Sequels. They're not my cup of tea but they renewed the franchise and spread it to a new generation and people who may have never given the cartoon a chance
I really liked the 1st episode. Sokka and Aang are perfect. Zuko is even better than perfect. Katara is ok. Gran gran is a little flat. Uncle Iroh is very good, but I do miss his very specific voice and accent, this voice is not deep enough 😁 I kinda think they made Aang almost like flying, although he was soaring.
I liked the series, and there will definitely be a season two. Its viewership is ranked first in like 73 countries . Regarding the haters remember the % of people who go online to complain is way higher than the % of people who go online to praise. Also there will always be a group who will hate any changes made to the source material. You’re both too young to remember this but when Harry Potter came to theatres there was outrage because Daniel Radcliffe didn’t have green eyes. 🙄. Looking forward to watching your reactions. 😊

This show rocks! Very cool way to adapt all the episodes. I truly love it, and this channel! I look forward new posts everytime!!!!,
Aw thanks for watching and supporting us!! We love watching with y’all too 😍🙏🏽

Epic Tear Bending!! Thanks for sharing your real reactions with us!
We’ll always keep it real & authentic to us 🥹❤️
Katara's characterization is really a miss for me. I grew up with her as my favorite character, and it just feels like they don't understand her. Glad people are enjoying the show though and hope it draws more people to the animation. And even though I don't like the live action show there's still more Avatar animation on the way so I cant complain too much
and no hate to the actor I just feel this is a writing and directing issue
It’s not the Actresses fault it’s the Creative Writing Team’s fault and the actress is doing the best she can. If the original creators were in charge she would be doing a better job portraying Kitara. By the way did you know the Actress playing Kitara is Native and not Asian at all.
Katara* also yeah the water tribe is casted as natives/Inuits, it makes sense honestly.
Most of these Actors have a Martial Arts Background.
Get ready for that tear bending in episode 4🙏🏻 hope you enjoy the series!
And Episode 6
why? cant u just keep it to yourselves?
Fun fact: not sure if you all knew this but in the cartoon the air nomad temples were segregated by gender but this adaption seems to have that both genders can live at the same temple and I like that
Much of the hate is from the fans' passion for the original. The live-action is separate, different,... it's own thing. You have to watch it as if it's your first time coming across the Avatarverse. No expecting, no comparing,... Which seems to be from challenging to impossible for the fans. If everyone did that the live-action would of been at the very least "Good", 7.5/10.
Agree with you wholeheartedly! Completely its own thing from the animated series. Thats the way we’re watching it too 😌🙌🏽
@@MeeshDeeReactsI hope y'all remain that way because it will be challenging. It will be a he'll of a bumpy ride.
I agree, it is a solid 7.5 out of 10. I see some issues with the effects. There are some issues with the acting as well but nothing so terrible that it ruins the show. And it is FAR better than the movie that shall not be named.
@@pepsiman990FACTS
For me it's 9/10 the live action series is better than the crappy horrendous movie
This live action series ATLA is No.1 in the Top Ten television shows in Netflix in several countries since it started streaming
It's good news, I hope they renew season 2
that's because of the IP it's based on. the second season, and completion rates of the first season will be the true tells.
Also updated news : the live action series ATLA is also #1 in the IMDb popularity ranking

You are awesome! 🥹❤️ thanks for the support
Love you guys !! 🫶🏼
You’re too sweet!! 💖😩
It's just devastating to see such a peaceful people be burned to ashes during a festival of celebration of the very same Great Comet that was used by the Fire Nation to act out their first strike
😭😭😭
"How could people hate on this?"
Right?!!!
Yesssss, you too look great this for this reaction! I look forward to more of this!
More to come!❤️
I have finished the series and the acting, writing and everything gets better. Katara's actress eventually warmed up to her role and executed it perfectly in later episodes. I just subscribed to your channel. Love your reactions. You will love this series honestly. Netflix did well with this one
❤️❤️❤️
Ahhh I can’t wait for the reactions! 😬 Have fun!
"How can people hate ion this? This is Cool!"...EXACTLY. You going to have a Good time with this.
I'm hoping for season 2, and maybe with 10 episodes instead of 8 🤞
I remember Sozin explaining why he wiped out the Air Nomads in that season 3 episode, but he still didn't go into too much detail.
I’m glad you guys like it unfortunately I couldn’t get past the second episode the characters acting were so bland and the changes felt very unnecessary. The dialogue felt too obvious and a little forced.
I love your reactions two beautiful girls❤❤🔥🔥
🥰🙏🏽
the little detail they inserted when katara bends going backwards in the animated series, probably bended the ice behind her instead of getting the boat. 😂
This is my katara, Aang actually glide in the cartoon
Yay❤ the reaction I’ve been waiting for 😊
🥹😩❤️🔥
Animated series Katara words to Aang :
Well, I just want you to be prepared for what you might see.
We agree with you here too! Keeping an open mind and optimism 🥰🙏🏽

37:16 Aang was using the air tornado to hover in the air temporarily.
I really enjoyed this episode and think they’ve done a great job overall with the adaption and casting, so sad it’s getting hate.
Agreed 😫❤️ we’re trying to keep an open mind with every episode!
That part!!! 💯🙏🏽
Anyway, deep love for ATLA, enjoyed the LA despite not liking some of the changes.
They handled the overall sexism of thr tribe... and they focused on his need to prove himself to his father... better changes in my opinion
Mae Whitmans voice acting when katara is crying to her dad for leaving them behind is always a stapled memory for me. Gosh I love it
i think that sokka needed to be sexist in the show, when i was a young boy i looked up to him and when i saw the episode about the kyoshi warriors i respected women more...it sounds weird but some young boys can learn allot about that episode, that is why sokka should be sexist in that episode.
Totally get that! I actually wanted him to be sexist atleast in the kyoshi ep. But doesn’t bother me too much. -M
I’m already here 👋 ❤
❤️❤️❤️
I like Gran-Gran having more presence and importance in the story.
Thanks for your constant support on our channel! You’ve been here since the beginning 🥰🙏🏽
the box of tissuse. yeah place it ther please. Later in the series, you will definitly need it.

This ain't nickelodeon anymore 😂
Also in the anime series I don't think we gotten the battle between air and fire I'm really happy they did this
Great reaction as always!
(There were some other minor issues I had, but nothing too important in this episode.)
But all-in-all a solid start.
Oh my goodness that's my favorite I love the last Airbender very good beautiful so much the watch enjoy 😭💗😍
I knew it was going in a lame woke direction the minute I heard Keyoshi's voice instead of Roku.

It's a solid adaptation for me, they made a lot of changes which was expected due to the format, some work and some don't in my opinion, but my biggest problems were a few mischaracterizations, and I don't know if is the acting or the writing, but to me a lot of scenes didn't felt organic throughout the show.

3:15
5:28 That’s the point. This is an adaptation geared towards the young adults who grew up watching the animated series as kids.

Man. He has the chops.
Dallas is incredible at martial arts 🔥🔥🔥
Show has great visual effects and design. The actors are great to for their roles. My main problem this season was the pacing and the story went all over the place. I think they should have done season 1 into a 2 parter and remain more faithfull to the source material that way. It felt very rushed.
This one is honestly pretty hit or miss for fans but it's better than the movie for sure lol. I may not like the adaptation as much as others but I look the same way I do at the Star Wars Sequels. They're not my cup of tea but they renewed the franchise and spread it to a new generation and people who may have never given the cartoon a chance
The nostalgia wore off me quick with the bad acting and bad dialogue.

I really liked the 1st episode. Sokka and Aang are perfect. Zuko is even better than perfect. Katara is ok. Gran gran is a little flat. Uncle Iroh is very good, but I do miss his very specific voice and accent, this voice is not deep enough 😁
I kinda think they made Aang almost like flying, although he was soaring.

I liked the series, and there will definitely be a season two. Its viewership is ranked first in like 73 countries . Regarding the haters remember the % of people who go online to complain is way higher than the % of people who go online to praise. I'm 6 episodes in and I'm enjoying this version. I'm a big fan or the cartoon series but I appreciate the changes they've made and I don't think it needs to be a 1 to 1 translation cuz then what's the point of making an adaptation if it's beat for beat the same. Might as well just watch the original. Big ups to you both keep it going. Can't wait to see more.
