Overall it was above my expectations! There's a few things that felt a bit better in the original, especially with later episodes where some of the stories they mixed together can get a bit convoluted, but there's also tons of stuff this show improved on! I LOVE what they did with the intro, and just overall how much more of the Fire Nation's side of things we get! At least compared to season 1 of the original. Plus the amount of easter eggs for fans of the original is insane 😛

That's why i was surprised when he said Zuko actor was his least to get the character's right. For me, Zuko and Iroh's actors was spot on, love their tandem. The rest as well did their characters justice. My least for me who didn't connect that much was Katara, i think she can do better. Also, Sometimes I find their lines weak as well and some actings were underacting or a bit off. But overall, I liked it. Hoping for them to do better in all aspects on the next season; scripts, acting, camera angles for the fighting scenes etc. Coz i know they can really offer more.

How do you like Azula, Mai and Ty Lee for example? this is a complete miscast, the girls from McDonald's haven't come out for months, I'm not even talking about the complete change in Azula's character, she was turned from a calculating, self-confident into a hysterical and insecure character

Gran Gran was a very good portrayal of an Inuit person [that's what the water tribe was supposed to be based on] but not so good a match to the way she was in the animation. I base that on having seen a number of actual Inuit people talking in a couple documentaries and they sounded just like her, the same kind of delivery. Now the actress in this case is not Inuit, she is of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma, but she did sound very much the way I would expect Gran Gran to sound in real life.

    • @WPNSTV
      @WPNSTV 7 месяцев назад +5

I've seen more complaints about gran gran than any other character...

    • @TheFireMonkey
      @TheFireMonkey 7 месяцев назад +1

@@WPNSTV I suspect that you'd have fewer indigenous people who grew up either on reservations or around a lot of people who grew up in a more culturally traditional environments that would feel gran gran was a bad job.
I can't say that with absolute confidence, but in my teens I spent a fair amount of time around members of the Sarcee and in my 30s I spent time around a number of Haida. Based on that, I think a lot of First Nations people would feel Gran Gran was captured well.
As I said, watching actual Inuit talking and interacting in a couple documentaries, she seemed to be quite authentic to me.

Watching this show you must have open mind because they did not make that show shot by shot 100%. They added some things to make it look better. Aang is a damn Avatar so his bending is stronger than others. They even changed his support Avatar. Aang was talking with Roku and in that series he is talking with Kioshi. I've only watched 2 episodes, but I love what I've seen. Yes, some of the writing is a bit odd, and I don't think it's the actor. Like when Katara says, "The Fire Nation hasn't approached the Southern Water Tribe...", like yeah, you could've said, "The Fire Nation hasn't been around here for years." And when Aang was saying, "I love playing with my friends, eating banana pie, etc", it could've been blocked better. He shouldn't been kicking around some rocks, or using his airbending on them while contemplating. It seemed more like he was in a stage play instead of being on screen.
So yeah, I'm loving the show and I can't wait to see more. But already with 2 episodes, I can say I CAN'T WAIT to see a season 2 and 3! I really want to see Netflix's vision of ATLA until the end.

One thing they did well is making the Fire Nation actually appear menacing. Also, in the animated series, Aang comes onto the scene making a joke of all the villains, Zuko included. So far, Zuko seems like a skilled warrior. Even Katara is already showing growth, whereas in the animated show her skills came pretty much out of nowhere near the end of the first book. Watched all 8 Episodes today. My score for the series is a 9/10 across the board. Definitely recommend, will be showing and watching with my 8yr old daughter once she is home from school on Friday and over the weekend.
    1) They show the air nomad deaths, so to adults, watch first 20 minutes before kids. Otherwise kids can watch once Aang is in ice.
    2) This is not a copy of the original. 8 Live action episodes to tell story of 20 cartoon episodes. Episode 6 of original looks like it will be in season 2. Season 2 episode 2 of original is added into season 1.
    3) The first episode is the first 3 episodes together with the deaths of the air nomads.
    4) Original cartoon Episodes 4, 5, 7-10, 12, 13, 15, and 17 have their essential episode essence represented, in episodes 2 through 6 of the live action. A lot of things are re-ordered. Some things are expanded You will see parts of things from a recognizable episode mashed with events from other episodes.
    5) Watch the entire thing before judging. Sometimes you will think something was forgotten only to learn, that the other parts or viewpoints of a given episode are in a follow-up episode. The way the episodes are mashed together means the story jumps between events of various episodes, so the representation of one episode might occur across 2 or 3 episodes; or there may be an intervening episode.
    6) Do Not PreJudge. The format is different than the original cartoon, initially the order will seem odd. Just hang in with it, overall it does work.
    7) Episodes 11, and 14 are not shown, but pay attention anytime Zuko, Iroh, or Zhou get a report. The events of those episodes are mentioned but it’s a one time blink, or talk and you will miss it. These episodes have indirect representation in the series. The honorable mentions in the reports made me laugh while watching.
    8) The Jeong Jeong part of Episode 16 might occur in season 2, or 3 without Zhou. Jeong Jeong is not in season 1 of this live action.
    9) The last 2 episodes of the Netflix Live action have been mashed together and reorder the events of original cartoon episodes 18-20. The Katara vs Paku fight is Wow!
    10) Koh will appear far earlier than expected. and not when or how fans expect. He is still a creepy, freaky, and dangerous spirit. They expand Koh’s role to include some of the lore with him from the comics as well. He is voiced by George Takei (Sulu from 1966 Star Trek).
    11) The original voice actor of the cabbage man, plays and is the cabbage man in this Netflix live Action series!!
    12) The previous 3 avatars and ocean spirit La, at points will be given permission by Aang to use him as a channel. Kyoshi is obvious. Many people apparently missed when Roku did so. Pay attention, do not miss it by talking or by being distracted by what Roku is showing and teaching Aang. Kurik will refuse. La’s turn is OBVIOUS.
    13) Azula’s machinations are definitely as evil as Ozai’s. Yes Azula learns lightning bending before the end of season 1. She is far darker than the original cartoon.

I absolutely love Ian Ousley, but apart from loving him as a person, in my opinion he looks almost identical to the animation, and I also think (of course without the goofy animation that you physically can't accomplish irl) he acts just like him. idk, I just love him so much. I am with Pudgey about who captured their animated counterpart better, but I think Sokka is the front-runner, then Zuko, followed by Aang and Iroh. Katara is a bit of a mix, but Granny is just an exposition dump, so there isn’t much to her. The rest did their part well. I only wish the dialogue were written organically rather than how the way it is presented. I mean, this will work well in animation, but even the animated series were so well written. That is why the animated Avatar: The Last Air Bender is so beloved.

I personally struggled the most with the actress who played Katara. Very stiff and monotone to me. And sadly Katara in the anime is my favorite due to her emotional range. So really hoping that the actress fixes that for the next season. As for Zuko, conflicted. Hoping he’ll win me over in time.

I think it's partly the acting but a large part is the writing and direction too, especially if you look into her other parts in the movie Beans and the show Anne with an E. I really hope they let her show that side of her next book if they get one. I won’t spoil too much but she has a scene in the movie where she yells at and attacks the police who didn’t help while ppl threw rocks at their community. She does really well there.

Remember something like 'lord of the rings' is an ADAPTATION of a book. You all know how annoying it is to have somone that read the books, yelling about how much stuff is different. We have to remmber that this isnt the animated series, and thats ok. It did a great job at getting a lot of things accurate, while also telling the story in its own way. Loved being able to see the avatar gang back in action regardless of how its executed. (Minus that movie. We dont talk about that)

Zuko in book 1 is a very different Zuko. It's always jarring watching the show from the beginning and being like "Who's this Zuko??" because he does change so much by the end. He was pretty angsty and 1-dimensional, almost annoyingly so, in book 1. So I think this version is doing just fine! We'll get all the good character development in Season 2.

+ The cast did a better job especially Aang, Uncle Iroh, June, Zhao, Gyatso, June, Zuko, and lord Ozai..
+ The CGI is sooooooooo good, the bending, the animals, the places all are good
    - Sokka, Katara, and Azula need to improve their acting (especially Katara and Azula, Katara needs braver, meanwhile Azula needs to be fiercer and evil)
    - I know they limit on budget but don't mix a few episodes into 1 episode, maybe they can make 2 episodes into 1 episode but don't make 4 episodes into 1 episode..

I wanted to like it more than I did. Some changes were cool. But I found some changes in character motivations to be unnecessary & simply put,, bad!!! There were some casting choices that just did not suit the character. Azula & Ming (I think that’s her name),, were absolutely the most obvious worst casting,, in the entire show. Although the Ty Lee casting was pretty good. She looked a lot like the character. She even sounded like the Ty Lee. Given more screen time maybe Ty Lee she could’ve have worked. I don’t even know why those three characters were in the show. They weren’t doing anything. But changing the motivations, and the character of Azula ruined it for me. That’s just one complaint among many that I have about the show. The Re-organizations and combining of Avatars and plot points,,, just came out very sloppy. For all of the unnecessary things that they added,, they could’ve just kept more of what happened in the animated series,, in the show. Changing what happens when Ang goes into the spirit, world,, and talk to the face dealer,, that was a mess. The conversation with Aang and Avater Roku was absolute nonsense. They turned Roku into some comedian. And reduced Roku importance to the story,, Why?? They took away the mystery & softened up (in some area) Firelord Ozai. But the casting was excellent. Sukiyaki was good casting. But her taking off her make up,, ruined the characters presents in the show. Admiral Zhao was very well casted. But they ruined the character. By changing his motivations and connecting him with Azula,, again,, WHY? Why did they change the face stealer? Why did they Wan Shi Tong (the guardian of the library/the owl)? It all just seems sloppy, mixed up and random. Some changes to the story worked. Some simply did not. The pacing was off. Some scenes seem too long and other seem like they were cut short. The acting was inconsistent. But I mostly blame the writing. Not the actors.

The season got better with each episode. It definitely is different. There is no disputing that. Things kind of felt rushed, a LOT of episodes' events are combined, and the actors need to grow into themselves. The worst thing is honestly how different Sokka and Katara are. That said, man it feels like an extremely good foundation. The first season of the original show was the weakest and this one feels kind of weak. If the writers take the criticisms and improves, this show can be just as great as the original. The things they did perfectly was the bending, the avatar state, the spirit world, the music, Iroh, Gyatso, Ozai, and the world. Man, it feels good to be back in the world

For being a live action it’s much better than the previous version which had white people instead of actual indigenous people, when Avatar is mainly based on Asian (Chinese, Middle Eastern/Indian) and Subarctic/Arctic cultures like the Inuit. The casting was very well picked and even look like the actual characters from the cartoon series. Any issues with the show is mostly them skipping several parts of the storyline to make it shorter, which kinda ruins the character development as it makes the progression too fast, some of the animation/SFX could have been done better, but overall not bad. I also like that Sakka is equally funny in this one as in the original. Overall it was good. Not perfect, or fantastic but good enough for entertainment purposes🙏🏾 Tbh when I 1st started watching it on Netkfix last night I was excited but soon after was distracted by my phone. I also wish the music was better, as it didn’t intrigued me. Like I wasn’t blown away to the point where I couldn’t look away… that’s what I was missing as that’s what the trailer gave me. I grew up with the original show and saw all the episodes on TV after coming home from school, I’m now 37. Zuko is still my favorite character. I always hated Ang, but he’s more likable here. Less childish, and helps that he’s also a fellow Filipino…

its a mixed bag. Some stuff I really liked, other were a bit meh. But ep 6.Masks is a phenomenal episode. The best bit about it was the scenes that they copied almost exactly from the show but also some of tbe additions that expanded the world. I think almost all the expansions were good like in ep 1. The only mixed bags is when they squash 4 storylines up together.
The thing which is the biggest miss is th writing and acting of the main 3. I do miss the actual fun and jokes. Sokka's too serious and moody, Katara lost all her personality and quirks and aang is not fun enough and is the one who finds acting the most difficult.

If they were successful in destroying the Avatar in the air nation, the cycle would only start again after Aang's death, and what was the element that came next after air?... Water. Remember Korra was from the southern water tribe? It makes sense the fire nation would wanna stop the cycle from beginning again.

I started watching the series so I could enjoy your reaction. After 45 minutes, I had it enough and fastforward scenes to finish it. So far there were things I was all okay but there were things I hated, I don't understand the need for a change in the story and characters. I think I won't be able to keep watch and finish this serie so I am not curious about any reaction about this monstrosity of live action.
In this LA version, Aang did not runaway from home but was only taking a walk/fly with Appa to south-pole? He was blaming himself for running away from his home and Avatar responsibilities, but he had to accept himself and get over with it; will he now blame himself for taking a night-walk from Southern Air Temple to south pole? Sure it wasn't our hero's fault to take a fly to thousand kilometers south but it was fate to get caught in a storm and conserved under ice for 100 years.
    And he flies like superman?
Zuko lands on the village and threats them to give "the one not belong there" or he will burn the village down. Gets no response. Sokka starts walking to the tent and he argues with Katara on the way. They even stop walking and still arguing. Then they reach the tent where Aang hides. They look each other, Sokka gets his signature club, gets out, walking all the way back. Meanwhile Zuko still waiting on the gates patiently, and still waiting to get the very first respond. How many minutes at least? Five? Ten? Tell them to "wait" at least before leaving enemy at the gate? Sure Zuko the "overpatient" is able to wait for ten minutes to get a single response. That is patient Zuko everyone knows, sure sure...
Aang praises Sokka the brave telling "no one ever fought for me before", like he ever fought with anyone or for anyone before or he ever seen any fight as a 12 years old air nomad 100 years ago.
Katara wasn't able to bend a jug of water but in a day she became a master waterbender, bending high volumes of water from the sea level where she was on the Appa 100 meters high and stopping Zuko's fireball. That is Avatar-state grade bending, pulling water from 50-100 meter away, not someone who just started bending.
A change doesn't bother me if it is improvement to the story and/or storytelling. I just can't stand for nonsensical scenes, dialogues and monlogues. The cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender" was already PG7 as it is, I don't understand the need of radical changes if not to make it viable for other age demographics.
The corruption rumors in the Netflix higher-ups, gate-holding, backdoors and "jobs for the boys" stories must be true, they are shooting their own feet by hiring incompetent writers/directors. I already have checked their previous works and it made me laugh. IT IS MOST OBVIOUS the serie is written by the people who do not understand the rules of the world and how things works. They must be thinking "it's magic, isn't it, make it do by the will of the hero" so if you are the woke hero, you are able to do anything you want, just wish for it, send a message to universe or something.. right...

I'm sorry but in the original animation in 3x6, Sozins literally says: 'I knew the next Avatar would be born an Air Nomad, so I wiped out the Air Temples [...]'. 'Temples' is plural which implies he actually attacked all the temples.
