When this movie first came out, there was a little girl dying in a pediatric cancer ward, she'd heard of the movie and asked if she could see it. They set up a screen in her room and she made it about two thirds of the way through the movie and passed away happily.
My guess is she had a miscarriage and from it she couldn't get pregnant afterwards. Mainly cause they were getting a baby room ready meaning they new she was pregnant.
@@davidhansen9792This makes sense, and makes the situation even more tragic. I always thought she never even had the chance to get pregnant. But in the end, it shows Ellie had overcome something even worse than i imagined.
@@davidhansen9792I don’t think it was a miscarriage, I think they just really really wanted a baby and had no reason to think things wouldn’t work out, so why not get the room ready since they know they are trying? Also I’m pretty sure the old man later makes a joke about being infertile 😂
I always cry during this film, wreaked in the first 10 minutes, and especially when carl finds out Ellie filled the rest of the book, likely on her death bed, knowing how much of a hole she was going to leave in his life because she knew him so deeply and completely. It does remind me of good will hunting, "waking up next to a woman and feeling truly happy."
She did do it on her deathbed. If you look in the hospital scene you can see scissors and table on the table next to her bed clearly implying she spent her time in the hospital finishing the book because she worried about his reaction to her death.

Yesss as an animator and a huge fan of animation I’m definitely here for these reactions!!! I think you’ll be surprised by how much you’ll enjoy the animated content you watch. A lot of people start watching animated content having this misconception that animation is a genre for children and that adults won’t enjoy, and then they’re pleasantly surprised surprised to find that that’s definitely not true. Remember animation is a medium, not a genre, and there can be animated content of any genre (comedy, horror, action, romance, etc). There’s some animated content that’s specifically not for children like The Simpsons, South Park, and more recently Hazbin Hotel. And even for most of the animated content that’s out there I wouldn’t categorize it as children’s content, I would say it’s more family content because the people involved usually do a really good job of making it as enjoyable for adults as it is for kids and this is a great example of that because like you said it deals with very deep and relatable themes. But anyway that’s all to say I’m always super happy to see people opening themselves up to animation and I’m very excited to see more of these reactions!! :)
I love it because animation allows for more imagination, which in turn allows for deeper meaning. For millennia stories were spoken and left to the listeners imagination, because that's where the greatest stories take place. Animation allows people to share their own imagination with others to a degree nothing else can.
Miss this kind of kids movies, in which hard moments are shown alongside uplifting and happy moments, teaching that life has always both ups and downs, but in the end it's always worth it
If I may recommend a movie to you @Augustus_Imperator. By your comment I believe you may enjoy "St. Vincent". It's a down to earth, real life movie that doesn't offer the Hollywood car chases or big explosions. Just a good story about neighbors and living life.
@@Steelburgh Exactly! I don't know where this idea came from that they don't make those kind of kids movies anymore. They're pretty much all like that now! Just because you don't see kids movies anymore so you don't know that doesn't mean they don't exist.

A nice touch in the hospital scene where she's dying, on the side table there are scissors and tape. She'd been working on finishing up her part of the adventure book.
The Up music "Married Life" that plays during the opening sequence is a fan favorite because it represents true love even through adversity. It is symbolic of our marriage vows. "In sickness and in health, til death do us part." Because of this, it has become a favorite for weddings. My wife and I were married 5 days ago and we played "Married Life" as background music during our wedding.
We all knew Pudgey would been in tears 😢😢😢 but Spartan as well 😂😂 well done mate! It's a masterpiece and now you understand why it won the poll. Great reaction team ❤

I can see a little parallel between Russel and Zuko. All Zuko wanted was his father's love. But instead he got the GOAT Iroh. Just like Zuko wanted his honor back. So many great animated movies. What's so powerful about this movie is how it hits on so many complicated themes like loss, love, infertility, divorce, etc.. but also at heart, it's a fun adventure the kids can follow. I love how Spartan understood, appreciated and mentioned that scene of Russell telling Carl how he liked and misses the boring stuff he used to do with his dad. Many Up reactors I have seen ignore that. As you said, that scene is very connected to the main message of this movie. Yeah, I hate too when subtitles kinda spoil some, otherwise, surprising and cool details.
I am so happy you two realized what a "Snipe Hunt" is. I have seen so many reactors not get the reference and think that poor kid is hunting for an actual bird.

I'm a 57 year old man and this movie always makes me tear up. Such a great movie. I love that it doesn't shy away from dealing with real tragedies such as Ellie's miscarriage and her death. I've probably seen this movie a dozen times over the years and I never put it together either that while he was getting rid of all of the things that were weighing him down literally, he was also getting rid of the things that were keeping him stuck in the past.
Great movie with a heartening message. Excellent portrayal and use of grief, loss, and sadness during the first act setup to get the audience into the desired psychological state for the ultimately uplifting climax and resolution. Happiness and fulfillment hit much harder when starting from a point of profound sadness.
How to Train your Dragon Trilogy is chefs kiss ❤ You guy would definitely love those . That’s Dreamworks ❤ and Pixar rarely miss they all hit you in the feels. Wall-E , Coco, Toy Story, Cars, Inside Out I could on but please add these ❤
It’s been a while since I’ve watched y’alls channel and I’m glad I am back for Up! I had to turn on the CC to understand what y’all were saying. Y’all have such a thick accent that it takes me a while to get used to it and actually understand what y’all are saying. 😅
For those who don't know - a "snipe hunt" is part of the dynamic in "UP" between Carl and Russell. A "snipe" is a fake bird or animal and if you want to get rid of someone and waste their time, as a prank, you can send them on a "snipe hunt", a type of wild goose chase, if you will. In the US, the prank goes back a few hundred years. Russell buys into it. However, the fake "snipe" turns out to be the very real Kevin after all!!
Finding a path for our grief or sadness to transform into compassion and love might be one of the most important things we can do. Though, it's not an easy task.
The Pixar movies are great in that they reach to all different ages. There is always depth. I remember about every parent in the theater crying when Elie lost the baby. Real life feels.
This movie is supposed to make you bawl like a baby in the beginning. It is by far one of the saddest and most depressing movies. When I watched it the first time I was depressed for a month. Snipes are actually real which makes the "snipe hunt" prank very weird though it's been a thing since 1840. There are 26 different varieties of Snipe, all live in warm water areas worldwide. They are a shorebird, like Sandpipers.
47:02 Never realized before: Carl saying "don't jerk around so much" while pulling Russell up is a call back to his earlier plan to drop Russell off on a building.
Have you heard of the paradox of Rick Astley? If you ask Rick Astley for a DVD of the movie “Up”, he will not give it to you because he is Never Gonna Give You Up. However by not giving you Up, even though you asked for it, he is letting you down.
After the hobbits were captured, when Leonardo DiCaprio kicked his drinking glass across the field, it actually shattered and caused his hand to bleed. That's why his scream seems so sincere.
Definitely a great 1st animated movie to start with! It appeased Pudgey (and us animated lovers), and showed Spartan how well a lot of them are done. I hope y'all put The Iron Giant on your list. Ooh, Coraline for Halloween would be cool too! There are some really good Halloween animated movies 😎
I hope you'll react to more animated movies! There are so many good ones that you need to watch! I absolutely love your reactions, and as a huge fan of animated movies myself, it's such a pleasure seeing other people experience them for the first time! ❤
Up is one of those thta is near perfect... Masterpiece!... The beginning is just on another level!... But nothing comes close to that "Toy Story 3" last moment of play with Andy!... Toy Story the perfect trilogy!
@@joshhutton9534 For me its because my 2 sons were kids when the 1st three come out and that was an amazing experience on its own... The 4th one they were old enough to understand what was going on without having the father translating while whispering on their ear... :) Anyway, for me its all About Andy and is coming of age, and it truly ends the cicle when Andy gives the toys to Bonnie! Like Indiana Jones, despite the 4th being good after all, those 3 stand on their own has being the perfect triology... Maybe even above my favorite "Lord of The Rings".
Great cartoon , if u don't want cry u have no heart! Other great heartfelt toons are Who framed Roger Rabbit, all the toy story movies, monsters inc, Wall-E, Ice Age, iron giant, and some others. Movie toons have been around since the 40s with Snow White, Fantasia, Bambi, and others. U guys proly wouldn't like them, hut should watch them. Heres a ton of great ones. Pinocchio, shrek, Dumbo, The Incredibles, nightmare before Christmas, Coraline, Ratatouille, 101 dalmatians, watership down, the jungle book, finding nemo, how to train ur dragon, Cinderella, little mermaid, lady and the tramp, sleeping beauty, frozen, aladdin from 1992, Rango, Robin Hood, Alice in wonderland, Peter Pan, Coco, Big hero 6, despicable me, wreck it Ralph, corpse bride, cars, a bugs life, Lilo and stitch, Transylvania, kung fu Panda, frankenweenie, chicken run, cloudy with a chance of meatballs, Madagascar, bolt, puss n boots. That should keep y'all busy a long time!
I didn't cry either and I'm not afraid to cry to movies. I think because it's animated it doesn't hit as hard, and also we barely know the characters at this point. And sometimes we are just too stoic to cry! Sometimes it comes easily, sometimes not at all. It's weird. Sorry for the long post! Also Pudgey definitely teared up! How did you not notice that?
I agree with you at 59:00, subtitles shouldn't reveal a mysterious character, before they are established. Did you notice, Muntz didn't become the villain just for Carl and Russell? When he's showing Carl the old aviator helmets from the previous explorers, he's hinting that he murdered them too. He was paranoid that they were after the Snipe, and would ruin his legacy. I couldn't tell if you caught on to that.
Some Pixar animated films I'd recommend are: Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), WALL-E (2008, pay attention to end credits for epilogue), Inside Out (2015), Finding Dory (2016, the sequel to Finding Nemo), and Coco (2017).

OMG so excited to see you guys reacting to some animations! There are so many incredible ones out there I hope you continue with them!!
One of my favorites movies ever, especially because it’s inspired in the country I was born in 🥹 Great react as usual guys!
A fact, the Paradise Falls do exist, their name is "Salto Ángel" and are located in Venezuela. Greetings
Thank you for this one. Love all of your uploads but this movie has always hit different. Loved reliving this movie with both of you.
wow thanks! 😊 we are really glad you enjoyed it ♥️
I remember watching UP at the movie theater and it felt like a buss crushed my heart no questions asked. It really is an emotional roller coaster.
For animated movies, may I recommend:
Watership Down
Plague Dogs
The Last Unicorn
Have you heard of the paradox of Rick Astley? If you ask Rick Astley for a DVD of the movie “Up”, he will not give it to you because he is Never Gonna Give You Up. However by not giving you Up, even though you asked for it, he is letting you down.
ive never been so happy to read a youtube comment
@@bradensbinginganime seconded.
This is the greatest wordplay I've heard this year.
😂
After the hobbits were captured, when Leonardo DiCaprio kicked his drinking glass across the field, it actually shattered and caused his hand to bleed. That's why his scream seems so sincere.
One thing you missed was that Russel's mom did show up to the ceremony at the end. She's the woman next to Dug in that one shot.
Pudgy would like "Encanto". If you do another movie I suggest it.
Ooooo, Encanto would definitely be a good one for them to do!
Retro here, I’m glad this movie won.
Still waiting on Into the Spiderverse.
But this movie is also very good
Definitely a great 1st animated movie to start with!
Yes guys. Animations are super cool. If you make this reaction regular, it would be great!!! You can try COCO next time.
Up is one of those thta is near perfect... Masterpiece!... The beginning is just on another level!... But nothing comes close to that "Toy Story 3" last moment of play with Andy!... Toy Story the perfect trilogy!
Except it’s not a trilogy….
@@joshhutton9534 For me its because my 2 sons were kids when the 1st three come out and that was an amazing experience on its own... The 4th one they were old enough to understand what was going on without having the father translating while whispering on their ear... :)
Anyway, for me its all About Andy and is coming of age, and it truly ends the cicle when Andy gives the toys to Bonnie! Like Indiana Jones, despite the 4th being good after all, those 3 stand on their own has being the perfect triology... Maybe even above my favorite "Lord of The Rings".
Next, please do react to literally ANY Studio Ghibli movies.
no way pudgey called Habanera dracula music XD
😅😅😅
One of my favourite childhood movies saw it when it first came out 15 years ago with my grandma.
Two of the most hard hitting animated movies are UP and Wall-E
You guys have a whole world of great Pixar movies to watch.
There is a famous painting of dogs playing poker, it looks uncannily like the part where Russell flies past on his grass blower lol😉
A movie with a heart ❤️ Fun for kids and adults, teaches both that life has ups and downs but it's worth.
No tears for the first sequence?, y'all ain't human.
I’m the same honestly. It’s the scrapbook scene later that breaks me
Some people respond differently to certain sad scenes. It’s not uncommon
Don't be like that, OP 😒
Calm down y'all, it's probably a joke lol
Spartan & Pudgey Such A Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
There’s a show called dug days that continues their story
I agree with you at 59:00, subtitles shouldn't reveal a mysterious character, before they are established.
Did you notice, Muntz didn't become the villain just for Carl and Russell? When he's showing Carl the old aviator helmets from the previous explorers, he's hinting that he murdered them too. He was paranoid that they were after the Snipe, and would ruin his legacy. I couldn't tell if you caught on to that.
Another emotional Pixar Masterpiece is Finding Nemo from 2003. Pixar perfection.
Up hits hard man, what a MOVIE
Paradise falls was inspired by Mount Roraima, on the border of Brazil, Venezuela and Guiana
What a choice for a first animated movie lol
One of Pixars best for sure
Some Pixar animated films I'd recommend are: Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), WALL-E (2008, pay attention to end credits for epilogue), Inside Out (2015), Finding Dory (2016, the sequel to Finding Nemo), and Coco (2017).
