    I actually wondered WHY Aang and Appa were flying so LOW to the ocean and I realized that in a storm over the vast ocean - especially a storm of that size and caliber - staying low is actually safer than trying to fly over it. The higher you go the more in danger you are of getting struck by lightning. Also getting higher, Appa would likely get blown away more easily as winds are much more powerful higher up. I mean there's only so high Appa can go before oxygen becomes an issue AND the storm is also higher than Appa can fly.

    The idea she mentioned at 10:09 is similar to the technique Avatar Yangchen developed to fight combustion benders. She'd create a vacuum hence leaving the space devoid of Air/Oxygen and it prevents firebending and combustion bending. She used that to take out some terrorist but she'd heal one later.

    The trick to enjoying this series is not comparing it too heavily to the animated series. To me, it looks like it's matured with TLA's 2005 audience. • @RainTT
      @RainTT 3 месяца назад

      @@Crispifordthe3rd515 Of course it won't be a perfect 1 for 1. I went into it not comparing it heavily to the show (which is peak) and it made my watch through pretty enjoyable. It isn't perfect but it's still a well done adaptation imo. The addition of the 41st division didn't drastically change or alter anything of the original but rather added significant character development for a character we knew had a heart but not to that extent. It was subtle but impactful. If they did more of that during S2, it'll be much better.
      I also feel as though it's definitely meant for viewers who have seen the original due to it's more mature and darker tone, especially seeing the kills and lethal force of bending. Take episode 1 for example. An amazing intro bc the show knows that we know what happens so it takes a twist and shows us the true horros of what war and genocide bring through the depiction of the air nomad attack. It honestly shocked me and was heart breaking to actually see it bc it wasn't expected as we never really saw it in the original. Changes like that and the liberty they had with that were well done imo and it needs to do more of that.

But despite all that, I'm tearing up when Aang monologues, when the music rises, im laughing at the jokes. So at the end of it, I had fun. The only thing holding me back really was my brain was constantly processing the changes like "Oh it's him, from that story, guess he's in this story" and that pause would take me out from the experience now and again. I wonder if the airbenders could learn a way to compress or expand air's density. It might be something to squeeze a few meters of air down to the volume of an air ball then let it explode. Or conversely push air away from a point then let it collapse with a thunderclap. Might go from deafening, to soft tissue damage, to throwing people around, to throwing parts of people around, depending of the forces involved.

    Sozen was dope and seeing a truly terrifying Fire nation was cool. With a couple of exceptions the villains of the show were a bit toothless so seeing the a baseline ruthlessness from the FN was really good. We got as much, if not more from monk Gyatso in this one episode than in the whole OG series and that dude has my heart immediately; I can see the bond he and Aang have.
    The more mature tone of this sets the stakes a bit higher from the jump and I like it because it will make the streamlining and loss of some character/story elements from OG season 1 make some sense. No spoiler but overall I really dug they reframed and condensed some of the story beats from OG and am hella stoked for the next upload. Y'all gonna get my patreon money finally.

I mean this actor's accent does have a slightly different pronunciation but that's just his voice. He's not intentionally TRYING to SAY "Ovitar" THAT alone gave this series a few bonus points in its favor. the Bending effects gave it more, But (this is just personal wishing) I wish the camera wasn't always so close to the bender characters. I wouldn't mind seeing a more pulled back shot of the bending. Maybe have them be less prominent in the shot. I don't know, I just feel like there were shots that were a bit close at times.

    When Sozen committed genocide, he more than likely piaaged the Air Nomads' entire historical documentation. Also as there were no longer any Air nomads that left their settlements easy pickings for looters. Being banished until he caught the Avatar Zuko would have done anything he could to get his hands on Avatar information. You can't catch a person you know NOTHING about.

You realize this I hope, right?? So Yeah; jetpacking up into the Air Nomads hiomes....not really that difficult. Not TODAY That's WHY Sozen attacked them NOW instead of at another time. Not JUST because all of the Masters were all in one place, but because the comet was in the sky. It's also why the Fire nation and the rest of the World renamed it "Sozen's Comet" because he used that comet to commit genocide.

    I remember hearing something from another rector about how some of the dialogue is given very stiffly and forced out. But I attribute that to "child actors" How they give their lines anticipating a response even before saying their lines. Like they give the lines with a clear pre determined emotional impact. Rather than just saying the lines and reacting AS they are delivered they give them expecting a certain reaction and therefore often have delivery that's "off" for lack of a better term. Also I feel like that boy needed to have some work done on those thick ass eyebrows. lol But that's just me. It doesn't take anything away from the show; I just think they are VERY difficult to NOT see.

    Does anybody else see the cultural similarities between the air Nomads and the Jedi?? Raising children communally rather than parents raising their own children, is exactly how the Jedi social structure works. So I believe that while the Air Nomads give their own children to their communities to raise amongst themselves (all four major settlements) they also roam around the other nations and take infant Air benders back to be trained, while making the parents become Air Acolytes. Not ALL Nomads were Benders. It would make sense as not ALL Water, Fire and Earth kingdom residents were benders either.

    To all the people bitching and whining about the dialogue being “cheesy or on the nose”, as a die hard fan who watched as it was airing as a child, I ask this question. Did you even fucking watch the original? Like I get that animation allows for a perfect image to be placed over a voice actors line but the same people who won’t shut the fuck up about the dialogue are the same people fucking whining about it being “to dark or adult” so how about you pick a lane and decided, is it too “cheesy”(ie, true to the original, sometimes kiddy vibe of the show) or is it too different and adult? Cause frankly it’s getting annoying and I fundamentally disagree that showing the actual realistic depiction of what a war between benders would look like is bad for the brand or some shit

    Okay so I want to suggest an idea here, that answers a question that I've seen more than a few reactors ask. They ask: "Why didn't the Earthbender just put the wall behind him and get on the Ostridge-Horse and bounce??"
    Here's why I think he sacrificed himself. I imagine that the guy waiting was NOT a bender himself, so he wouldn't have been much help in a fight with the Firebenders (otherwise I think it was pointless to have him just wait there when he could have Earth-bent and helped out); and by deciding to stay and fight the Firebenders, the Earthbender buys the other guy time to escape. No one will be chasing HIM while an Earthbender is tearing up the streets and fighting the Firebenders. They will all come to help subdue the Earthbender who's tearing shit up.

    • @thewrongvine
      @thewrongvine 3 месяца назад +10

      Well to be fair, it's not complaining for no reason. It's just critique of things that could be improved. I have a question to flip things for you - why are general audiences these days so okay with getting just "okay" content? Big franchises like MCU have just made people complacent with getting average media. If it were truly perfect, there wouldn't be complaining - so that's not a great excuse.
      Let me say this: you can like what you like! Form your own opinion. If you enjoy this adaptation, more power to you and don't let anyone take that away from you. But that doesn't mean other people have to let down their expectations to match yours.
      From a filmmaking standpoint, there are genuinely so many letdowns in this adaptation. From the writing and dialogue especially. The original ATLA, even as a cartoon, is mature enough to trust its audience and treat its audience with respect. The original starts with mystery - we meet a random boy in an iceberg, and we know nothing about who he is, his backstory, his motivation, or the world. We get little breadcrumbs of information as Aang learns it episode by episode, building suspense and letting audiences discover things.
      Here, the writing is so generic and simplified (dumbed down for sake of a better phrase). There's 20 minutes added in the beginning for basic exposition to introduce our protagonist Aang, the air temple, the Fire Nation attacking, even showing Sozin so early on. There's no mystery, no suspense, because the generic Hollywood writers don't trust their audiences. Instead of characters SHOWING their feelings through actions, there's constant moments of characters speaking directly to the audiences with lazy exposition. I mean look at Aang's monologue to Appa... it's cringe.
      We could go on with many other aspects of the filmmaking but it'd take too long. But let me end with this: you can like what you want, again. If you are happy, that's great you can enjoy it. But hopefully you can empathize with other people's perspectives too.

    • @InterstellarInerstate

      @@thewrongvine I respect everything you just said, and it's valid. I agree with you on the MCU, as of lately it's trash. Iam not ok with just okay shows I want the best possible version. This adaptation is pretty solid, i agree the dialogue is choppy here and there but this is so much better than the live action movie. The actors picked are believable to their characters, and I think Netflix will here peoples criticism and fix the things necessary for season 2. Iam just sick of people complaining just to complain. criticism is necessary so that people or the project can evolve, and represent the the story in the light that the fans are so passionate about. the animation show is amazing and I do understand where your coming from.

      @@Denji.99 Uh... are you serious? It would take MORE effort to make an adaptation better, than to make it generic like this Netflix version.
      Look, you can like what you like. Did you not read my comment? Have fun if you want. That's totally fine. But you can't expect everyone else to also lower their expectations just because you do.
      There is nothing wrong with making changes, IF the changes you bring are improvements that can stand on their own. There's a reason something like The Dark Knight is universally loved. It's barely a faithful adaptation of comic book Batman, but the filmmaking is strong on its own that you can respect it.
      The problem with NF's Avatar is that the writers misunderstand the characters, the themes and the plot. It's watered down, dumbed down with exposition. There's no nuance or complexity to characters, no subtext in their dialogue. Everything is stated directly to audiences. And it just gets worse with each episode, how much they change and misunderstand the point of certain characters or scenes.
      IF you like it, more power to you. But there's a lot of validity to what the critiques are calling out.

    I haven’t loved this show, it’s better than I expected but still not very good. The costumes and effects look very fan film like. My biggest issue is that it doesn’t do anything to warrant its existence. It’s a considerable step below the animated series and introducing all of the heavy stuff right away has the potential to diminish the decision Aang has to make at the end of the show. Some of the Zuko changes are good though.

I mean the ONLY way for them to find out is if someone snitches on her. They aren't like hanging around observing IN the village. So there's no way SHE can give herself away. A snitch is THE ONLY way they would ever know a Waterbender is there. And if that's the case that means Sokka believes someone in his village WOULD snitch on Katara. I don't think I would have written in THAT specific motivation for him wanting her to keep it a secret.

Waterbenders are very highly regarded. Sokka thinks that the Fire Nation will "just show up" if Katara Waterbends. I certainly think the adaptation is a mixed bag, but I don't get this criticism of Aang 'flying', because... he's not. He's jumping down, and using airbending to direct and cushion his descent. And when he's looking for Appa, he's using a little airbending 'tornado' to boost himself up, and then floating back down.
