    THANK YOU!!! This video and your other video on How to Replace Your Garage Door Cables were a huge help to me when my door cable came off when the door got skewed. Before that happened, I tried to straighten the door by adjusting the length of the cable that I saw in another video. The method you demonstrated in this video was way better! Thanks again for making these very informative videos!

    That was very helpful. It worked exactly as you said. My garage door had about a 1/2" gap on one side that caused the garage door opener to keep bringing the door back up. After I leveled the door as you described in the video, it now works. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

    Thanks! My garage door cable had broke several weeks ago and I replace it but the door had a gap on one side. Then the door started to go back open when it hit the bottom......I assumed it was because it was hitting uneven (door was making contact to the floor on one side before all the way down on the other). Did what the gentleman showed on this video and everything works! Thanks a lot! :)

    How could I level a garage door with extension springs?

  • @chamika73
    @chamika73 7 лет назад

    Dear Sir: Is it important to release some pressure in the center spring/s using winding bars as most of the other RUclips videos on leveling garage doors shown? Appreciate your advise. Thx.

    • @DDMGarageDoors
      @DDMGarageDoors  4 года назад

      Hi Bravo007! You want to release some tension in the springs if you are going to mess with the cable drums or anything else that is holding in tension in the door. Using winding bars to loosen the springs, let the bar rest against the door and hold the tension that the springs have so that they don't slip and you risk injuring yourself. Refer to our ddmgaragedoors.com/diy-instructions/leveling-garage-door.php if you need any further tips on how to get your door to level properly.

    • @DDMGarageDoors

      If one cable breaks the door will usually rise on the opposite causing gaps at the top and under the garage door.

    • @DDMGarageDoors
      @DDMGarageDoors  4 года назад

      Hi pmpntl529! You should probably just get the door up and rewind the cables, if possible. If it has too much slack in it, then you should try to get them back on when the door is down, tightening it so that the cable is taut. If you are wondering how to do this, you can refer to our video on "How to Replace Your Garage Door Cables" on our channel!

    You mention that the door cables are 8 1/2 foot long. At my local HD I only see 8 foot (96in) and 12 foot (144 inc) cables. I measured my cables and they do indeed appear to be 8 and 1/2 foot or 102in. It seems like the 96in cables would be too short even with adjusting the pully. Any thoughts on this?

    • @danmusick6231
      @danmusick6231 9 лет назад

      +Brandon Bridges You are correct, Brandon. The cable length formula for most residential garage doors is DOOR HEIGHT + 18." On a 7' high door that would be 8'6." An 8' cable on a 7' high door might work but you would run the risk of the cable coming loose and the garage door becoming crooked.

    What if my floor is not leveled ? Will this adjustment fix the gap ?

    • @DDMGarageDoors
      @DDMGarageDoors  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ace! This should help to fix the gap in your door to the floor. The issue is, however, that this gap may be something that needs to be solved another way, because messing with the cables may just end up making the door crooked if there is too big of a gap. Some solutions are to get a larger seal that will cover the extra ground needed to take care of that gap or to attempt to get that ground more level, which is a lot more work.

    Mine appears to be unlevel at the top not the bottom. I never noticed this before recently, it's a rather large gap. Then the torsion spring on that side broke (after the gap appeared). I wonder what is causing all this.

    • @DDMGarageDoors
      @DDMGarageDoors  4 года назад

      Hi Wolf House! It could be something with your cables becoming loose, or your top fixture not being adjusted to the correct spot. Some of the gap could also be because of your top seal not being installed properly either. In other words, not seeing pictures, it's hard to pinpoint exactly where the trouble spot may be. If this is still an issue for you, feel free to email us pictures and explain your situation.

    Still a gap on the left side...

    • @DDMGarageDoors
      @DDMGarageDoors  4 года назад

      This could be a problem with your side seals on your door, jmj5150. As you can see in the video, even when the door is level, the bottom seal still shows light through because it has ripped off in that corner. The same thing can happen on the top seals and side seals over time as the weather takes its toll on these parts.
