THIS! thank u for this. I was go to meps next week, but i told the recruiter to pause all that after i saw a whole navy reddit page all recommended airforce. Like it has to be THAT BAD. My main concern was how much time will i get to see my family. And u just answered that for me
This video has tons of value!! Future Sailors should process every word spoken. A lot of people buy the 2 year cross/ change rate..... Truth is there are a lot of moving parts. Coming home after working and taking care of Princess A'zaria. I salute you SHIPMATE!! You're 100% honest with the camera
Cerro De la Wade thank you so much for the support I just want people to understand that truth about what their getting into and maybe it will prevent mistakes. Thank you again🙏🏾
Thank you for yuh info, especially for CS's i graduated from bootcamp now, I was talking to you before I joined about the relationships/marriage, now I'm in, appreciate yuh.
The Official Dave Harris It is treating me well. Very competitive school. But all the 1st, 2nd classes and chiefs do all they can to make the learning experience a positive one.
Because of my navy DD214 I got a job at the long beach naval shipyard for three years. Then I found out we could take our DD214 and transcripts of sea service to the coast guard they issued my first merchant marine IDENTIFICATION card and the rest is history
Women will always be here opportunities won't. If you think with your mind not your emotions you'll be better off in the long run trust me im ex navy uss Guam LPH-9 from 1979 1983 Norfolk Virginia
If you ever decide to become a civilian go get your merchant marine documents from the coast guard office you'll never have to experience unemployment with under your belt
The military sealift command have civilian ships for the navy. Like supply fuel hospital medical equipment also army and marine corps tanks and jeeps ships called RO/RO ships its easy you just add your navy time toward your retirement
Brother my DD214 has been a gold mine for me I thought about getting back in but I didn't have to I was making way too much money and having too much fun
You can finish out your navy career then use the merchant marine as a second career for two retirements. Military sea lift command has plenty of retired navy perssonal working for them
While your in you can apply for the military sea lift command.let them make you an offer then compare it to the benefits of the navy and think about it Really hard
Red Salmon yeah that’s weird I never heard of a 5 year contract. Only 4 and 6 anyways gunners mate is a great rate he will enjoy it. It’s going to be freezing when he’s at bootcamp!!
Corey Miller they deploy just as much as everyone else it real just depends on the ship your on. Yes yeoman is a great rate. A lot of paper work pushing and sitting on your butt.
Donovan Bangs sorry don’t know anything about GSM. I’m sure if you search it on RUclips you can find more about the rate. Congratulations by the way and good luck.
Engineering rates work long hours just like the cooks. sometimes they are the first ones to arrive to the ship and the last ones to leave at the end of the day. They also stand a lot of watches, monitoring the engines. With that being said they are very skilled at what they do so it is very common for you to find good work on the civilian side.
All of those ratings now offer big bonuses after your initial contract providing you have three years of EP evals. And as Dave stated, you are set up for a good civilian job.
Steven Parada, EP is Early Promote ... EP is top performing, then there are MP (Must Promote), and P (Promotable). Each category (EP, MP and P) has a different number of points to help you advance to the next pay grade. I will be making a couple videos on this topic next month.
I’m a be honest. In my personal opinion I did not like being a CS. Some people like it but I didn’t. We work long hours and get up early. If you do like cooking I wouldn’t be a CS.
Anthony Ruiz it’s funny I actually was trying to be a SH. I worked in the barber shop on the ship from time to time. SH is a very easy job it’s just very hard to make rank as a SH their quotas are very low.
I love the merchant marine. Everybody on the ship get they're own stateroom and bathroom the food is like eating at a restaurant every meal because you order off a menu prepared by the chief steward. The money is better you get 15 days paid vacation for every 30 days you work on the ship with the seafarers international union and you have freedom because your a civilian
@@theofficialdaveharris8794 So if bullying and racism is not tolerated if it's reported to your upper ranks will they do something about it or they will ignore you and leave you stranded with the problem?

If the navy changed your life and you like it I recommend staying as long as you can its a good life if you don't weaken

Only thing that is gonna bother me is being on the ship but oh well.there is nothing here for me in Pensacola
Queen 99 yes that’s the difficult part but you’ll be find.
I was surprised that my boy signed a 5 year contract. I thought the standard was 4 years. Gunners mate. He leaves for basic Jan 13th.

How often did you deploy as a CS
Every two years
Aww she’s so cute

Do you know if the rate “yoeman” deploy a lot too ? And do you think it’s a good rate ? I just joined with that mos .
Corey Miller they deploy just as much as everyone else it real just depends on the ship your on. Yes yeoman is a great rate. A lot of paper work pushing and sitting on your butt.
The Official Dave Harris cool, and do the navy have 6am formation every morning like the army ?
Corey Miller hell no, we don’t do that in the navy.
With the longshoreman union ILWU you can retire with 13 good years

Google to local us coast guard office for the address and contact info. Do a walk in the will take it from there
Kevin Shelby ok thanks
Have you ever thought about switching to the Army?
92 Yankee I thought about it in my earlier years. Now if I ever switch branches it would be to the Air Force.
What are your thoughts on the engineering Ratings like Machinist mate, Enginemen, Gas turbine technician, Hull technician and the others ?
Engineering rates work long hours just like the cooks. sometimes they are the first ones to arrive to the ship and the last ones to leave at the end of the day. It’s doable. It really just depends on you situation.

I got out of the navy because of my wife then she dumped me like a hot potato it was a hard lesson but I had to learn the hard way
Kevin Shelby that sounds about right I see that happen a lot. Why you didn’t get back in?
sorry bro. screw her
