    I think you should make a video for those of us who are switching from active to reserves!! And possibly hit points when it comes to getting NJPs while in. I’m going reserves and didn’t know that I had to direct convert to a new rate or had to wait 48 months to choose what rate I wanted or was available. I just found this out from the prior service recruiter this past week about this

    The Active duty life is what really interests me but due to some responsibilities at home the reserve competent is what would fit best in life for me. With that in mind how likely (or unlikely) would it be for me In the reserves to get selected to go on deployments abroad? My understanding is that it’s voluntary and in my case I would want to do those things. Could I volunteer for deployments or assignments outside of my regular duties and actually stand a chance of getting on a ship? is this a competitive process? Is it even common is for the average reserve Sailor to be selected for those assignments if so.
    That was a little unclear to me in this video, Thank you in advance!

    • @NavyTransitionCoach
      @NavyTransitionCoach  2 года назад +3

      You can request a mobilization or regular orders anywhere between a few days and a few years. Going on a ship depends on many factors. Sometimes it’s who you know and other times it’s what unit you are attached to. Due to COVID I can’t say what is normal, slow, or quick. Many things have changed.
      In regards to being active of Reserve, think about how the benefits will best fit you.

    I wonder if I’ll be qualified to use my VA benefits being a reservist or be cLassified as a Veteran? I’ve been active since starting bootcamp March 2021, following A school & currently in C school. All together totaling 9 months being active once I grad mid December from my C school. I’d then return to my nosc as a reservist.

    • @miguelbermudez5426

      If you go from Great Lakes to A-School to C-School, technically yes you're a veteran but you won't be able to use the Post 9/11 until 30 months of Reserve Mobilization time. Then the VA will back dated your IDTT time from RTC GL to C-School and you can then use your GI Bill.

    What is the process of switching from inactive reserves to active reserves or active duty?

    • @NavyTransitionCoach
      @NavyTransitionCoach  3 года назад +1

      All inactive reserve or prior service members must first go to the active reserves in order to go active duty again. If you would like to go from inactive to active reserves you will have to go and talk to a local navy recruiter.

    • @NavyTransitionCoach
      @NavyTransitionCoach  2 года назад

      I'm say this. If you desired rate is not available to you, you won't be able to get in until the opportunity comes while you are in the Reserves. I hope that makes sense.
      A-school is not usually immediately if you are joking the Reserves as a different rate. It has to be scheduled with the CCC at the NOSC.

    • @NavyTransitionCoach

    I'm trying to understand the Early Retirement process. If I have 15 years Active service and want to finish my last 4 years in the Reserves(SELRES), would retirement pay be reduced by 15 years from age 60. So I'd get it at at age 45?

    • @NavyTransitionCoach
      @NavyTransitionCoach  Год назад +1

      Great question. Unfortunately I do not know and I highly doubt it. The earliest age I've heard is 55ys old. I'm sure you have a reason to want to finish your last 4 years in SELRES but it would be fiscally beneficial to spend that time on active duty so that you can collect retirement pay asap not matter your age. The Reserves won't even allow you to do any type of active drilling or orders once you hit 16 years. Meaning it won't be beneficial to you but for retirement only.

      There is no avoiding deployments. Lol However, things are changing with how sailors deploy. One weekend a month and 2 weeks a year is the bare minimum for childcare. Many sailors spouses at the NOSC watch one another children.

      Apply to be a recruiter in the reserves if you want to “avoid” deployment. But it’s a full time job so take that into consideration. You can also volunteer for active time and you choose those orders and location.

    Hey there, joining the reserves. I wanted to know if you knew any reserves enlisted getting VA disability rating?

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza 2 года назад +1

      @Nicholas Nevares, hundreds of Reservist serve with a disability rating. The main factor is the type of disability, because some will disqualify you from serving. Note that a few years ago the military was granted access to VA medical records, which resulted in a lot of Reservist and National Guard members being forced out.
