    TAR (FTS) receive 100% of the same benefits as Active Duty, including immediate retirement pay / benefits after 20-years of service. The main difference is they train SELRES and (with a few exceptions) work at a Reserve command.

      What’s the few exceptions

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza Год назад +8

      @@theyluvcj777 It will depend on the rating. Example: If you are a TAR (FTS) BM, DC, EM = more time on a ship than other TAR (FTS) ratings, so orders to an LHA, LHD, DDG, or CG.
      Shore duty exceptions (that are not a Reserve command) are RTC as an RDC, Instructor at A or C school, Training Teams, MEPS, Detailer, ECM, and Recruiting.

      @@LauraZorza Hello, I recently talked with a recruiter and he told me that TAR(FTS) gets paid the same as reserves if not attached to an active billet. Is this correct?

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza Год назад +11

      @@David-xg5ho incorrect ... a TAR(FTS) receives 100% of the same benefits as an Active Duty member. Active Duty pay, BAH, BAS, Tricare Prime, 30-days of leave, immediate retirement after 20-years of service, etc.
      A TAR(FTS) fills a TAR(FTS) billet, not an Active Duty billet. The Recruiter is probably thinking of a SELRES Reservist. Not the same thing. Is the Recruiter Active Duty?
      FYI - If anyone enlists and ships to boot camp between now and next month (December) with a TAR(FTS) contract = $25,000 shipping bonus 👍

    I just wanted to provide an clarification. You said something along the lines of “it’s essentially taking someone who is a reservist and putting them on active duty to train the reservists.”
    TAR isn’t Reserves or Active Duty. It’s a third entity that focus on supporting the reserves, but can also support other TAR and Active duty sailors.
    I am currently active duty transitioning into TAR. You also don’t have to be at the end of your AD contract to put in a package for TAR, just need to complete 24 months at your current command.
    Also, each TAR rate is different. You can look at the community health slides for the sea/shore flow. Most are 36 month orders though 🤍

    This Navy Transition Coach youtube video of What Is Full Time Support (FTS) also known as TAR is highly informative in a beneficially clarifying way. I admit that I am a prior active duty navy veteran civilian who luckily found out through my navy reserve recruiter that this TAR program could be available for what I am in the process of aiming towards. Still regardless if I am ever a part of TAR I find this video to be very helpful especially with the implication to be ready and available to go either to shore andor sea duty if selected. Luckily I am in the position to be available for either scenario if the opportunity presented itself, it was also interesting to find out that there are navy reserve based TAR sailors in Japan in addition to being stationed in the states. I actually enjoy residing in the area of Virginia that I am residing in right now, still knowing ahead of time what to keep my eyes open for metaphorically enhances the informative angle of this video. Obviously, I am happy that this TAR (Full Time Support) video is currently available for accessing/viewing for both present and future reference.
