      Friendly advice here,
      If you're not in shape, get in shape, remember that shit is all mind games "denny boy".
      DO NOT complain to other recruits or talk about quitting! they will rat your ass to the TO's and you will be weeded out swiftly. Be honest but don't incriminate yourself if you catch my drift.

    I know guys that were in the Marines, that served on active duty and when they went reserves, got deployed to war or places like Africa. Some deployed more in reserves than while on active duty. I know a former Navy guy that was never on a Navy ship on active duty nor deploed outside the U.S.. When he joined reserves, he went on annual training to Gitmo and Rota Spain and got to go on ships while in. reserves. You would be surprised. Its like some Marines never get sea time. Never go on ships. Or very little sea time. Others do plenty of sea time. I did plenty of amphibian ops at sea in Marine reserves on Navy LST off of Jacksonville beach and camp Legeune, St. Johns river.

    And the lady was straight up about reserves. Irs a lot harder in the fact that you have to balance your life. Job, college, navy mode. You have to maintain standards. Good job

    *** The Reserve GI Bill is the Chapter 1606... at this time it is only $392 per month for a full-time student. I say “only,” because you still pay for your tuition, books, living expenses, etc. I do NOT recommend using this Chapter if you intend on doing Active Duty time.
    A Reservist is entitled to the Post 911 GI Bill by doing Active Duty time. For a Reservist to be 100% invested in the Post 911, they must have 36-months of Active Duty time (same as Active Duty members). NOTE: Your boot camp & A/C School active time does not count until you have accumulated 24-months of “other” active duty time. So, if a Reservist was mobilized on orders totaling 24-months (or more), then the time spent serving in boot camp and A/C Schools would be added to the 24-months.

    This is very helpful. I did 4 years active duty in the marines and just made the switch into the navy to be a corpsman. The problem is that as prior service I only had the option to do navy reserves. However I’m happy you have the option to work more days than just the 2 days a month. I’m already in and everything. FTS is an active status like a regular sailor, they just have a "R" after USN and there orders rotate them to different reserve units not normally regular navy units. Reserve sailors when activated or mobilized are on active duty but are not classified as "FTS"

    • @bdd7881
      @bdd7881 Год назад

      FTS (now TAR) can and do rotate to active duty commands. Going to a ship is not off the table. Though FTS/TAR do have their own quotas for advancement and available rates (jobs).

There are a LOT of opportunities for reservists right now in Funeral Honors to aquire active duty days. Here's to hoping you do a video on the NAVY RESERVE funeral honors program.

    hey there, dunno if this will take off but i used to be active for 8 years as an OS. Im now a reservist IT, also working in the IT world. Network engineering. IF anyone has questions i can also be of service too. Great video, only thing that ill add to being a reservist is depending on company it might be cheaper for medical/dental. I was using tricare but my company now offers a more flexible medical and so i pay about 80-100 dollars less than a reservist using tricare. still good benefits.

    Some incorrect information in this video. As others have noted, FTS (now TAR) are not reservist sailors. They are active duty but within a different program. They are (typically) assigned to reserve centers but can also be assigned to active duty commands (and ships). They are active duty (and receive all the benefits) and must complete a 4 year contract (at least). They have their own quotas for advancement and available rates (jobs).
    In regards to education benefits, you only are eligible for the reserve GI bill. If you deploy or complete active duty orders that will count towards POST 9/11 gi bill (A school/boot camp doesn't count till you have 24 months of qualifying time). Also, you are not eligible for tuition assistance (there's ways but it's a lot of hoops).
    The cross assign information just recently changed. You will be expected to travel to that command at LEAST quarterly, if not monthly.
    You only get 48 drill periods (12 drill weekends) but can be given extra depending on the command. You can complete other type of orders however, such as ADT, ADOS, mobilizations, and AT.

    • @bdd7881
      @bdd7881 Год назад

      Some other important stuff has changed with cross assigned commands, but it's a bit nuanced and wasn't talked about during the video.

      Not that clean of a transition. It depends on rate (job), year group and what they're looking for at the time. If you want to actually be active, your best bet is to go straight active. As a reservist you can do a year here and there and there are opportunities to do a couple years on orders but you would not be full active duty.

      @@LauraZorza can I ask why? I am also thinking a similar thing

    • @LauraZorza
      @LauraZorza 4 года назад +5

      julian aguero, because you receive 36-months total and if you plan on doing any Active time it’s better to wait. If you use say 24-months of the Reserve Chapter 1606 ($392 per month), then receive orders for a year on Active Duty, you have 12-months remaining. After your 12-months Active orders you are eligible for 60% of the Post 911 GI Bill, but will have only 12-months (or whatever remaining unused time of the Chapter 1606) to utilize. Having even 60% of the Post 911 would be 60% of your tuition paid for, 60% of BAH and a book stipend verses the $392 a month (you still pay 100% tuition, books and living expenses using the Chapter 1606).

      @Edward Kozderka, no, you can apply for Tuition Assistance (TA) while on Active Duty, but it’s not guaranteed, and the amount you can currently use annually is $4,500. Reservist are only able to apply for TA if on Active Duty orders after 120-days and they must remain on orders for the duration of the class(es).

      You will not choose the weekends or the two weeks (and it isn't always summer). It depends on your command where you're doing it, and when. The SCRA benefits only truly kick in when on active duty orders but they kick in EVERY time you go on orders (instead of when you initially enlist). Also, keep in mind you will be completing the training pipeline like any active duty member so you will be gone for 4 months to over a year at the start. The annual fee waiver is up in the air. Some have had luck using their two week orders to get it waived and other's havent.

      Miguel Bermudez, I agree, Reservist have more opportunities to travel and go to some amazing places. I also know of Reservist than did 20-years and only did their two weeks AT in locations like Jacksonville, FL or Norfolk, VA... never mobilized = terrible retirement.

      Boot camp and A-school is full-time. Then you go home to drill as a Reservist - minimal 2-days per month and 2-weeks per year. You are paid 2-3 weeks after your drill weekend = 4-days active duty pay. There are many opportunities to mobilize (deploy) for 6-12 months.

    • @jgrey7907
      @jgrey7907 3 года назад

      I just joined the reserves from being in AD, from what I was able to figure out you can study abroad as long as you meet you’re drill requirements. This could mean you front load your time before you head overseas, meaning do how ever many months of drill ahead of time.
      This also means lots of planning on your part and open communications of your intentions to your command.

      FTS ... it is a Reserve contract, but you are Active Duty .... it can be confusing. FTS train and provide administrative support to Reservist. So they work weekends when Reservist drill, but generally have two days off during the week. You may deploy once in your career, twice if you're lucky. The remainder of the time you are permanent shore duty.

      You can use the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1606) Selected Reserve, but it doesn't pay much. You only receive $384 for attending full-time. The Post 9-11 GI Bill is better, but you need 36-months active duty to receive 100% ... Most Reservist only receive 50% of the 9-11 GI benefits due to less time active in boot camp and A-school. Both of these can be used while serving, but you must fulfill your contract or you pay all of the money back.

Their sole purpose is to train and support Reservist, so they have different commands they can be attached to such as NOSC (Navy Operational Support Center) and they often stay at one duty station longer than Active Duty members.
