STOP using a Wooly Bugger (TRY THIS)

  • This is the golden retriever originally invented for bass and pan fish. It has found its place in my home waters as one of the most successful flies for trout and salmon. I highly suggest giving it a try instead of a wooly bugger. It's easier to tie, holds up to more damage, and is arguably more productive. If you want me to tie some for you. You can submit a custom order on my website. #shorts #flyfishing #fishing #fish

Best advice I can give you is to keep your wrist locked. Not in an uncomfortable way but so you are holding the base of your rod in towards your forearm. It will help a lot with keeping your rod it a nice upward position so you aren't using it like a whip. Once you get the casting down, you never want to go back to a normal pole haha

You can find out by purchasing a fine white hand net 6 to 8 inches by 4 inches at the opening and 12 inches deep. Then on a day of your choosing. Have a friend walk in the water shuffling his or her feet to kick up rocks. Holding the net 12 to 18 inches down stream close to the bottom of the creek or river. Lift up the net occasionally and checking for anything that is moving. Then take a large pan empty the net into the pan with water and take individual puctures of the creepy crawlers. Taking careful notes of each picture of each photograph. Make sure your notes include the date. Month day year and time of day. Include as close as possible the exact location. If you have a thermometer take the air temperature and water temperature where you gathered your creepy crawlers. Then be sure to put your creepy crawlers back into the water where they came from. Then with the aid of an aquatic entimologist identify each of your creepy crawlers. Do not be surprised if one or more are the same critter. They may be in different stages of their life cycle. You will want to compensate your entimologist to make sure you garner his aid in the future. He will be impressed with your through collection of specimens and data and may even offer some advice ton6ou on your next excursion. Or even ask you to collect the same information at a different creek, river or lake. You can create a great relationship. Later when you read the entomologist paper don't be surprised over the smile on your face when you read items that are familiar. This is one aspect of flyfishing that I am enamored with.
