World’s MOST Popular Dry Fly Just Got Better!
This is a variation of the world-renowned Elk Hair Caddis, an extremely popular fly pattern that mimics the profile of a caddis quite well. However, unless tied with a giant wing, this pattern can sink easily after a take or in fast-moving water. That's exactly where this pattern comes in-a more modern version using foam to help increase buoyancy and provide an even better body profile of an adult caddis, in my opinion. This one was tied on a Klinkhammer hook with some flash to draw a bit more attention. This is a simple yet cool-looking fly pattern that makes for a fun project. Not only are very few materials needed, but the more artistic you are in coloring up the body, the better it will look. However, even just a few black dots, as I've done here, only take a minute and come out looking pretty good, although the fish won't necessarily care. There is something extremely novel about this craft. Stripping the basic colors and shapes of an insect and then using mostly natural materials to replicate it. The resin is a nice finishing touch but even before it they look amazing.
