One thing I've realized about this show, is that David is amazing at making lies sound like truths, and Lee is amazing at making truths sound like lies.
+Numayam I noticed he didn't actually say 'I don't know'; he said 'Would you believe me if I said I didn't know?' which is not exactly the same thing :).
When they speak about it being a good acting performance if it turns out to be true, I love Lee's cheeky look and smile at the camera for that half second hahaha
+Hilts931 Was it displayed in a good position? When I went to see it last year it was in the back of the case and quite hard to see. (It was still very exciting though!)
I thought the first thing David Mitchell would ask Lee Mack is "If it is a permanent exhibit, why are you holding it in your hand?" just to be pedantic about the wording. But I was disappointed. :(
So im not the most annoying prick in the world just because it occured to me too as a first question I would ask? Maybe I am, but we share this title :D.
+CalLadyQED the guy next to david who also donated should've known Lee was telling the truth, because Lee knew about the website and the "rich and famous" section. One only knows about that if they had a reason for it: like if they ever donated something. Knowing about the "rich and famous" section isn't common general knowledge. It's in the details :D
maybe he didn't know, the guy said they usually ASK people to donate.. maybe they just asked him on the phone he said yes and that was it, he never went to the website
I mean to fair he was lying throughout a bit too much that it fell into the unfair category imo. Like he can't really say he doesn't know and eventually wasn't sure what it does when he clearly does because its his. Can make any truth sound like a lie when you lie about parts of it...
That's nice to know. I really like Lee Mack, as a comic and as a bloke. And he's brilliant on everything too, not just WILTY. His performances on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown are consistently the funniest thing on the show; he's a better captain than Sean Locke. And Not Going Out had a lot of cheesy moments, but also some sublime writing too. Hugely underrated comedian.
+Callum Docherty Not really. I am as funny as a wet concrete but as soon as I heard "what does your dibber do," the first thing I thought of was the Flintstones.
What astonishes me is that he told a story that he knew people wouldn't believe because he figured nobody would accept the existence of a lawnmower museum with celebrity artifacts, had someone on the other team confirm the existence of that museum, leaving the question open how Lee would know the museum existed were it not true, and he STILL managed to fool the other team in a landslide.
gkidz4 he was aware of its existence because it was from his hometown, Southport. I myself am from southport and it always makes me laugh when I see the British Lawnmower Museum😂 never knew there was so much celebrity stuff in it though hahaha it's brilliant
The fact that it's in southport aside, if it wasn't true then some producer who may or may not be aware of it's existence but would have had ample time to do research for things to say made up the lie, not Lee. Lee need not have known of it's existence.
Still doubting my abilities David! HOOOOOOH! *smacks head* *inaudible gibberish* PHONE! 😂 The second best WILTY moment after "I once accidentally bought a horse".
I think it's technically within the rules to contradict yourself and alter your story while trying to pass off a rule as a lie, but I'm not sure. Mack pulled it off regardless, cheeky chipmunk that he is.
On reflection, Mack's performance here is masterful. He dithers around and muddles up the details of his story so well, and make the few truthful concessions he makes seem like cheap filler, the sort of thing someone blags to look desperately normal.
+LS SP You mentioned 'cheeky chipmunk' and it reminded me of Blackadder and Georgina being called the general's 'little chipmunk.' My apologies if I'm (as always) generalizing all the English (and Irish, and Welsh and Scotsmen and Australians and Americans and humans) into one group, but is 'chipmunk' by any chance a more commonly used word, since there's so many chipmunks around? Just like the French have more sayings about bread, possibly, then they'd have in Tokio.
from Wikipedia: A dibber or dibble or dibbler is a pointed wooden stick for making holes in the ground so that seeds, seedlings or small bulbs can be planted. Dibbers come in a variety of designs including the straight dibber, T-handled dibber, trowel dibber, and L-shaped dibber.
When I went back home to Lochgilphead a few years back, my brother I and made a special trip just to stop in and see "his dibber". (Because we're crazy like that is why) It was way back in a cabinet. Truth be told, we did a took in a bunch of weird stops that trip. Some of my best/funniest memories.🤣❤
I live in southport and am very aware of the British lawnmower museum i see it every day, unfortunately i haven't gone inside to see Lee Mack's amazing dibber, maybe some time in the future i will have the honour to see the magnificent exhibition.
Lee is one of those tougher ones to pin down. He tells stories ambiguously with the intent to make his ridiculous lies more consistent with the way he tells stories about what otherwise might be a more believable truth.
I've just emailed British Lawnmower Museum (BLM) and said that I was a huge fan of the museum, but when I turned up to their rally to support them I was a little taken back and bewildered.
I found it funny that David altered the sentence structure to make the improper grammar feel less improper. It was still grammatically incorrect to use "who"--unless you used it Lee's way as the proper name "(Doctor) Who". (cue the Abbott and Costello!)
Dale Winston? Lol. He was probably felt tired of David's frustration. Usually the exchanges happened way longer than the edited version. They could've argued pointlessly for half an hour before they moved on. Oh... and RIP Dale.
@ ankan, yes a bluff is pretending or lying e.g. "you're bluffing!" means you're lying. but I think a double bluff is pretending to be bad even if it is true, so that the other team think you're lying and you can't think of anything and are making it up on the spot.
One thing I've realized about this show, is that David is amazing at making lies sound like truths, and Lee is amazing at making truths sound like lies.
Lee kind of lies in order to do so though. Like, he obviously must have known what a dibber does. He acted like he had no clue
And Bob is just amazing
+Numayam I noticed he didn't actually say 'I don't know'; he said 'Would you believe me if I said I didn't know?' which is not exactly the same thing :).
I have yet to see Lee tell a true story yet but I’m still searching so wish me luck
It’s true!!! Yes!
When they speak about it being a good acting performance if it turns out to be true, I love Lee's cheeky look and smile at the camera for that half second hahaha
I know :) for some reason it reminds me of Jim Halpert from the US office
Beth Parker it reminds me of Michael Scott more lol
And this is why he won a BAFTA!
"David Tennant. Or as I call him: Doctor Whom." :D
Thanks, I didn't catch that when they said it!
Sheer genius. :D
Taking about razor sharp wit. You can tell he thought about it sooner than he delivered that line as well.
It was very satisfying to give your comment the like that made it to 1K :)
Oh it's the little things.....!
Then "Tom Baker" who was also a Doctor Who[m]. He is lightning quick and devastatingly funny.
I was at the British Lawnmower Museum 3 hours ago and I saw the dibber he donated :P
+Hilts931 Was it displayed in a good position? When I went to see it last year it was in the back of the case and quite hard to see. (It was still very exciting though!)
+Rachel Johnson no it was at the very back of the cabinet :( I had to ask the lady
+Hilts931 This thread has got to the be most tedious conversation on the internet...
+Charlize Theron THE dibber!
+rftluong Dibber-gate!!! :O
"Im not doing it if you put an M at the end."
Im crying. Totally my kind of childish.
And he brought it back with "Doctor Whom"!
But then David just said “who did you take advice from?” So there was still an m at the end. David got his revenge. Yes!
I will wear it with pride! :D
+Forkez I thought the same :$
I THOUGHT THIS
Same. I was also half-expecting David to admonish Lee not to be so careless with a museum piece as he was banging it on the desk.
That's insane. He really, really, really made it sound like a lie.
He might just know what it is, the part you have to figure out is if he donated to it or not
I'm your 1000th like
I mean to fair he was lying throughout a bit too much that it fell into the unfair category imo. Like he can't really say he doesn't know and eventually wasn't sure what it does when he clearly does because its his. Can make any truth sound like a lie when you lie about parts of it...
Once met Lee Mack in a cafe I worked in. it was a hella quiet day and he was gracious enough to take some pictures with the staff. Top guy...
+Otter LIE!
TRUE
otter be true
That's nice to know. I really like Lee Mack, as a comic and as a bloke. And he's brilliant on everything too, not just WILTY. And Not Going Out had a lot of cheesy moments, but also some sublime writing too. Hugely underrated comedian.
He and Sean Locke are different styles of comedians; Mack is quicker, but Locke is even more bonkers.
The Fred flinstone bit was nothing short of genius
+Callum Docherty Not really. I am as funny as a wet concrete but as soon as I heard "what does your dibber do," the first thing I thought of was the Flintstones.
+gangstabib unfortunately messi is superior to ronaldo
Oh, I see: that joke can't be as good as everyone thinks it is because you, a random youtuber, say you saw it coming. QED right?
@@gangstabib Just so you know, "I am as funny as a wet concrete" made me LOL, so ironically it's not true :)
@@thesprawl2361 It was an amazing joke, but a large part of it was a coincidence, not brilliance.

Raptor haha it’s my favourite place. I love telling people about it and they never believe me 😂
Not only confirmed, but someone who had actually donated!
The fact that it's in southport aside, if it wasn't true then some producer who may or may not be aware of it's existence but would have had ample time to do research for things to say made up the lie, not Lee. Lee need not have known of it's existence.
"There are seven billion humans on Earth...let's not eliminate them one by one" has got to be my favourite David's responce to Lee's bullshitting.
That Flintstones joke though XD
It's funny when he repeated it I was hoping Lee would get him to ask something that sounded like "Yabba" with that on the end. Then he just said it.
Came here just to hear that again. Top 3 Lee wittiness.
This clip leaves out the very best part! Right after this Rob goes, “Just a simple tool... who donated his dibber to the British lawnmower museum.”
These things are scripted, but Rob's delivery is just insane lol
@@manavsridharan3811, a funny scripted joke is still funny 🙃
Now that was a hell of a good performance.
Still doubting my abilities David! HOOOOOOH! *smacks head* *inaudible gibberish* PHONE! 😂 The second best WILTY moment after "I once accidentally bought a horse".
😊 Yes! 😊
THERE IS NO UNIVEEERSITY
There are 7 billion people on the earth. Please, let's not eliminate them one at a time. XD
I'm American and I just found this show and I'm crying its so funny
+TheForestFamily Don't cry. Get well soon
I love that David Mitchell was visibly trying to hold back from laughing during that exchange at the end. Even he has to admit, Lee Mack is hilarious!
David and Lee riff amazing off each other. What a great combo.
He is probably the best actor I've ever seen
You must not have seen many movies then mate.
I just woke up at 4am with the sentence "what does your dibber do" in my head for no discernible reason and had to look this clip up.
This is like a perfect film scene, every line is brilliant from Mitchell and Mack
This is probably one of the best acting Lee has ever done (when it turns out to be true)
I've seen his Dibber it's at the Southport lawnmower museum, it's a very fine place.
Ganleth piece*
I've seen his dibber as well, in the showers at Southport Comp. I don't remember it being as big as that.
Love Lee's off hand humour and wit.
As soon as he mentioned the Lawnmower Museum I knew it was true. That museum is the pride of our town.
It’s on Shakespeare st 😭😂
That's why it's always a good idea to be on Lee Mack's team - his double bluffing abilities are brilliant!
When he says thank you and then looks at the camera for a split second before they said it was a lie was brilliant 😂😂
I think it's technically within the rules to contradict yourself and alter your story while trying to pass off a rule as a lie, but I'm not sure. Mack pulled it off regardless, cheeky chipmunk that he is.
its within the rules if you say something that is an obvious joke, i think

On reflection, Mack's performance here is masterful. He dithers around and muddles up the details of his story so well, and make the few truthful concessions he makes seem like cheap filler, the sort of thing someone blags to look desperately normal.

"What is this museum????" XD

I love how outraged David looks at the entire concept of a lawnmower museum.
Lee and David work soooooooooo well together. Everytime they have a conversation, you just can't help laughing. :))
"I'm not doing it if you put an 'm' at the end of it."
LOL! Their banter is awesome!
His face at 4:35 😂😂 he knew it was true, obviously, which means he got told it was one of the best acting performances ever lmao
In my 20 years of living here in Southport, I've never been to the lawn mower museum. Don't think I ever will either xD
don't you want to see the dibber?
Not exactly :)
Gamma Pavonis VII Same! but I am quite curious about the dibber
You've got to go now!! :D
When I went back home to Lochgilphead

it seemed like he forgot his story genuinely can't believe this was all an act
What do you mean all an act? He was telling the truth.
Birdy But he was acting like he was telling a lie.
Birdy an act to convince them it was a lie
I love David's maniacal laugh whenever Lee contradicts himself or says something ridiculous 😂😂😂
just fucking give lee his oscar already christ
Faith Ting yes, absolutely!
David and Lee have to be the funniest duo on earth! Always crack me up 🤣🤣🤣

*R.I.P* Dale Winton
"One of the best acting performances I've ever seen in my life"
It's great to watch Lee's prevaricating skills develop over the years.
ok big words
I love David's reaction when Lee said "You want to know from whom?" He just seemed so confused!
Only Lee gets David that flustered. It’s love.
3:56 "Ishalltellya" 😂😂
Would I Lie To You's rule number one: if Lee looks like he doesn't know anything about the truth/lie he's telling you, he's telling the truth.
"David Tenant, or as I call him Dr Whom!" 🤣
I just love it when David gets all annoyed... XD from whom, lol
HAHAH are you fred flinstone. I love Lee Mack.
This is the best clip involving Lee Mack I have ever seen.
Dr Whom killed me
That Brian May bit made me smile xD I love the God!
" Im not doing it if you put an M at the end " hahahahah brilliant as always
his smug smile though
Why was Dale Winton dressed as a tyre fitter..? 🤔
hahaha omg that was amazing! i so thought he was lying.
He was kind-of lying about lying.
That Flintstones remark was so quick... How does he do it!
I bloody knew it was true. I kept thinking that Lee was too obvious at pretending like he was lying. He was too good at it.
If you watch the show regularly he does the same thing when lying 60% of the time
4:34 Lee smiles cuz he knows hes won
Lee is just a national treasure isn’t he
A permanent exhibit yet in the studio.
A "permanent" exhibit means it's part of an exhibition that doesn't change season to season. They can still lend it out.
I love the fact that Lee can drive David crazy, Lee has got to be one of my favorite comedians!!
4:29 nearly messed it up there lol
0:58 Are you Fred Flintstone? 😂
Ayabadabadoo
Lee did seem to be trying to act as if he were lying..the old double bluff..very tricky!
Brydon, Mitchell and Mack are just awesome
Lee is one of those tougher ones to pin down. He tells stories ambiguously with the intent to make his ridiculous lies more consistent with the way he tells stories about what otherwise might be a more believable truth.
hahaha just googled "famous tools" what do you know the website for the British lawnmower museum appeared.. hahaha
Love the way David Mitchell says dibber!
4:34 Lee realising he almost gave it away
one of the best performances of lee mack i have seen in a while...good bluff!!!
...aaand it was true! Lee seems to be getting better and better at pulling off the bluff
I've just emailed British Lawnmower Museum (BLM) and said that I was a huge fan of the museum, but when I turned up to their rally to support them I was a little taken back and bewildered.
He was a part of the Lawnmower Museum himself and still didn't believe it 😂
"Who did you take advice from?"
"Well, I'm not going to answer that if you're ending your sentence with a preposition!"
Marvelous performance!
That was comedy gold... tears of laughter right now!
I watched this video, googled 'dibber', went to wikipedia, went straight to 'references' and now I'm watching it again.
the who whom section reminded me of Micheal Howard's "did you overrule him"
I found it funny that David altered the sentence structure to make the improper grammar feel less improper. It was still grammatically incorrect to use "who"--unless you used it Lee's way as the proper name "(Doctor) Who". (cue the Abbott and Costello!)
That is what you said.. He is double bluffing. He was trying to make them think it was a bluff, which he succeed!
How the hell is Lee so good at this game
3:07 is that guy next to David alright ? lol, dude looks like he’s questioning his entire life and i swear i hear him sigh in despair
Dale Winston? Lol. He was probably felt tired of David's frustration. Usually the exchanges happened way longer than the edited version. They could've argued pointlessly for half an hour before they moved on.
Oh... and RIP Dale.
Anyone else notice him give it away right at the end when he said thank you
whenever you heat Lee say "posession" its gonna be gold
I've walked past that "museum " many times .
Is this show still on? I accidentally found it on RUclips one day and been hooked ever since, down under we don't get this played here.
Lee is fucking brilliant at this game, the crafty veteran.
The Dr Whom joke hahahahahahahahahaha
I have just come back from a holiday in southport I have seen the dibber :)
Wow Lee is seriously an awesome actor... didnt see that one coming!!
This is champions league television from Britain; they put the smartest wits against each other to see who will outwit whom.
smirk at 4:26. he knows he has made a good act
Doctor whom was such a good joke 😂
Dr. Whom. 🤣😂🙃😂🤣
@ ankan, yes a bluff is pretending or lying e.g. "you're bluffing!" means you're lying.
but I think a double bluff is pretending to be bad even if it is true, so that the other team think you're lying and you can't think of anything and are making it up on the spot.
Can you explain that again Lauren ?
If I ever visit England I need to go see this dibber in the lawnmower museum 😂
Yes and southport is worth a visit
Whatdoesadibberdoo?
Are you Fred Flintstone 😂😂
