I think if Victor did betray Penguin, it wouldn't be in the same way Penguin betrayed everyone else. For 2 reasons. First, Vic is a good kid inside, having to commit crimes because he feels it is his only option. Which WAS true in many ways, until the moment he chose not to leave with Gabriela. Which happened because Oz sweet talked his way into convincing Vic it was the only way he'd have a better life, and that he'd be sticking it to the world at the same time. Which leads to my second reason: Victor genuinely BELIEVED in Oz. He actually fully bought into all his bullshit about fighting for people who had nothing like the residents of Crown Point. Through the course of the show, we can see him really start to trust Oz and gain real loyalty for him. Even though it is all built on a foundation of lies. Of the person Vic THOUGHT Oz was, which he was obviously wrong about. In the flashback with Rex Calabrese talking to Francis he mentions how some good recruits come into his care because they feel like they need a father and they saw Rex as that surrogate father figure. That's pretty much exactly what was happening with Victor. I think if Oz hadn't killed him, Vic would have kept following him, probably for years and it would have been a situation a lot like the relationship between Dutch and Arthur Morgan (and the gang) in Red Dead Redemption 2. Where they all constantly talk about what a great man Dutch was, trying their best to convince themselves that he is that man even when it becomes more and more clear that he isn't, and maybe he never even was. I think this probably would have been the ultimate fate had Vic stuck around. He would have stayed and been fully on Oz's side, but gradually Penguin would just keep showing his monstrous behavior and how little he cares for anyone, and Vic would keep trying to make excuses for who he was. Maybe he would betray Penguin after that, or maybe it would have been too late.
Right before Oz offs Vic he asks "Do you think shes proud of me", referring to his mother, not realizing until shortly after that Vic has no clue about what Oz did to his own brothers. He realizes a day will come where Vic will start asking questions. The line connected and that's when he made the decision to act then and there.

He killed him with a brotherly headlock- practically a hug- with tears in his eyes, apologizing to him even as he was strangling him. Victor was truly like a son to Oz, which us why he had to die. @@blairhoughton7918 Have you actually watched any of those movies and compared it to the Sopranos? Is James Gandolfini's performance an impression of Al Pacino's Michael Corleone, the same way Colin Farrell's Penguin mimes Tony Soprano? Does the Sopranos rip off plot points beat for beat (Livia tries to kill Tony, Tony kills Christopher) the same way the Penguin does? I think you're confusing genre (the former) with plagiarism (the latter)
Penguin didn't decide to spare Sofia. He made a deal with the corrupt councilman to give him Sofia so he can pin the gang war on her and win a big political victory. The councilman gets to take credit for taking down the biggest crime family in Gotham and he takes Penguin with him on his rise to the top.
Another note: Rex said that ppl who see him as a father have unwavering loyalty. Victor saw Oz as a father figure and that’s what makes the betrayal all the more heartbreaking.
Oz must be the luckiest villain going! All his plans just kind of stumbled into working out for him. I was half hoping that Vic isn't actually dead as Oz can't get many things right on his own. Even a heart attack took one of his opponents out! Would add a nice revenge element to the next film for Vic to have survived.
The story made it clear the penny was gonna drop, something was going to happen to turn Oz completely from underling thug to a villian worthy of Batman. Husband & I went back and forth of what was gonna happen to Vic & Francis for it to happen... we just didnt think it would be Oz himself. Ugh... such a good show!
He can't have anyone that has seen him so weak around him full time. Everyone else has seen him down and out but never weak. Vick has been with him at his lowest of anyone else in the show. Not even his mother has seen him that weak. Vic was doomed at that point.
The main clue that something wasn't right was that the penguin seemed like an ok person that you wanted to believe in and support and follow. Which is what all the people he conned were thinking. We were conned just like the penguin conned everyone else.
I love what they did with a character that was quite silly in the past, but is truly scary in a realistic way in this show. I love everything they have been doing with the new Batman Dark Knight content. Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti need to get nominations for their performances.
His mum made him who he is. What she showed wasn't love, it was manipulative coddling. If Oz wasn't born into that family, that life, none of it happens. He wasnt raised by loving parents. Look at any sociopath and its a running theme. That last Ep just had me pinned to the couch feeling heavy. This universe is so bloody real. Took 37 years but you finally made a DC fan out of me!
It kinda felt like she was terrified of him and wanted to drive him to death…or like the father said-exploit his loyalty to her to get the life she never had. She never really loved him after he murdered her other sons
I wanna leave this idea of what we might see a Batman 2 concerning Victor. Due to the fact that at Victor's death, we see his ID 3 different times. I think that Bruce Wayne actually saw Oz kill Victor. The reason why Batman would be there is because of the bombing at Crown Point. That more than anything would make Batman focus on Oz and Sofia. Victor was so well liked that if the Batman mentions his name during the Penguin's apprehension, every movie theater will cheer and roar at that moment. Victor is the main reason why many people were okay with what Oz was doing. Once he died, the villain was unmasked. I really hope they put this in the film.
I think the point was Penguin had gone full circle, he started off as one of the commoners coming from poverty in a land of Made Men, arguing that the common criminals should look out for each other rather than being the downtrodden that the elites were just stepping on. At the end he became one of those elites dressing in fine clothes, living in a penthouse, stepping on the commoners to advance. He Killed victor for the same reason he hid his mother, realising that family could be exploited and that those who knew the truth about him shouldn't be able to speak out and contradict his personal narrative. His potential political advancement was more important to him than loyalty.
I thought when oz cried at his mother’s bedside and Vic comforted him was part of the reason he killed him, seeing him cry,he would think of it as weakness
The only reason why he did what he did to Vic, is because Vic told Oz that he's family. That same family that was used to almost destroy him completely. So he had to go to prevent that from ever happening again. It's really that simple.
I like to think that the reason Oz kills Vik is because he saw that he was about to become like Oz. Oz know that he himself can not be trusted, he kills you if he needs to, so Oz knows that if Vik continue this patch, he will eventually become just like Oz and therefor can not be trusted. Oz needed to kill Vik before he will betray Oz.
yeah I don't think Oz was ever jealous of Vic. he legit cared for him but the reason he killed Vic is cause he saw him at his most vulnerable after seeing his mom in a coma and he can't have weakness. amazing show tho
Penguin got better by episode as we see more and more of Oswald's psychotic nature. He hit the Triple Home Run of psycho characteristics: (i) Machiavellianism - cunning, manipulative and driven; (ii) Narcissism - inflated sense of his own importance; (iii) Psychosis - out of touch with reality. Oswald never does anything that he doesn't see as being in his own interest. If it's good for someone else that's just a side effect of his main goal. He is a soulless monster. Even as he strangles Victor he tells him he's a good kid. But his face shows that he is enjoying the kill and has no remorse. It's just another step towards a goal that he refuses to accept he can no longer achieve - his mother's praise. In my opinion this is DCs biggest live action hit in years. I hope the momentum of this show follows through into Batman 2. I hope this doesn't end up hitting an internal politics brick wall like The Amazing Spiderman did after two films left a multi-villain third episode dangling in the wind. Let's bring in all the boys and see how dark Gotham gets.
Vic gonna be the redhood. Caught stealing Tires, becoming a sidekick, gets killed by the villian. Reported "missing" not dead on the PENGUIN Twitter account. Comes back and recs havoc on gangsters and monsters like redhood did! Just a fun theory 🤷🏾
Vic was dead the moment he tried stealing Oz's rims and got caught , Oz just kept him around because he was useful and discarded him when he didnt need him anymore. Vic should have hopped on that train with his girl instead of trying to live that street life.
You can't let your right hand man stick around when every boss in gotham was just killed by their own right hand. If Oz didn't kill Vic then he'd be telling the rest of the city they can do it again.
This series really made people forget the penguin is one of the most ruthless characters in DC😂😂😂 But the ended was masterful and made you realize why Oz is the penguin

@@douglashesney6134You mean it's a ripoff of the ripoff of The Godfather, Goodfellas, and Analyze This?
Yeah and letting her live is going to be a huge mistake.
How shitty would it be if he dies 10 mins into the Batman 2
What if he dies in the trailer and isn't even in the movie?
That would be poetic. He gets the fate he sent victor to
Vic’s coming back as Mr Frezze lol what if 😂
Another note: Rex said that ppl who see him as a father have unwavering loyalty.
You see how Vic got control of the under bosses. Oz probably figured Vic would do the same to him eventually.
I thought Oz kept Sofia alive to give the people someone to hate. Like what he told that politician.
Miscalculation. She and Catwoman are going to take him down by manipulating Batman and let him have the credit.
I think a part of Os killing Vic was he didn’t want Vic to one day take over. He’d already gassed the other lieutenants to take over.
never have I felt this level of rage
4:51 can we acknowledge that the actor that play little Oz deserve an Emmy 👏👏🎬
Such a phenomenal ending to a great series cannot wait for any more content from this universe.
He can't have anyone that has seen him so weak around him full time. Everyone else has seen him down and out but never weak. Vick has been with him at his lowest of anyone else in the show. Not even his mother has seen him that weak. Vic was doomed at that point.
Yeah I agree...thats really why
The main clue that something wasn't right was that the penguin seemed like an ok person that you wanted to believe in and support and follow. Which is what all the people he conned were thinking. We were conned just like the penguin conned everyone else.
I love what they did with a character that was quite silly in the past, but is truly scary in a realistic way in this show.
I love everything they have been doing with the new Batman Dark Knight content.
Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti need to get nominations for their performances.
This series reminded me of Sopranos meets Boardwalk Empire. Enjoyed every episode.
This just made me feel like i was watching a great mob movie. Great shit. Season 2 please
Let’s pour out some sprite cranberry for the homie Vic!
I need the batman 2 to have batman give penguin that Arkham combo attack.
I hope there will be more shows with a story and quality like this
The best show I have seen in a long time.
This sets up Secret Wars..
😆😆
But we have to get Madame Web 2 first, or Secret Wars won't make any sense.
The letter from Selina: “🎶Smelly cat… smelly cat… it’s not your fault🎶”
iykyk
If the writers killed Sofia, that would have been the dumbest thing they could do. She is a wonderful character.
I forgot he was a heel and I kept rooting for him
Hats off the the writers for having the balls to stay true to the Penguin
12:05 - Julian, bubby, even Victor Zsasz thinks you’re too creepy.
Oh man. This video threw that in our faces without letting it even cool down.
the light at the end was batman's signal. glad i could help
Not a word about the fact that Sophia’s sister (Selina Kyle, the one she got the letter from) is the Catwoman?😐
Deirdre O’Connell (Francis) Stole the show!
Absolutely. This could easily be considered her story.
Plot Twist: Vic Survives and becomes the Red Hood
Vengeance for Vic 😡
That betrayal almost made me broke my TV.
Hats off for that.youve got what you were aiming for
Hi, man!
I completely agree with your opinion.
Everything is exactly it is.
Oz was not willing to give up his operation for his mom. He was planning to ambush Sofia in the scene with the bomb.
Chistin Milioti coming for that Emmy
Collin Farrell absolutely killed this role.
Oz didn’t grow up in Crown Point. He grew up on the East side, where Crown Point was located, but a different area on the East side. 1st episode
Anyone else feel seeing Sofia breath was a tease on freeze and how cold Gotham just got
Who plays Freeze?
I don't know who needs to hear this but, Deathstroke would be amazing for the Matt Reeves Bat Man movies,
Honorable mention Bane of course.
17:27 This was the most perfect mash up ahahah 😂
I thought when oz cried at his mother’s bedside and Vic comforted him was part of the reason he killed him, seeing him cry,he would think of it as weakness
It's that too. Vic saw his weakness and has leverage on him, he could become a threat who replaces him in 10-20 years.
The only reason why he did what he did to Vic, is because Vic told Oz that he's family. That same family that was used to almost destroy him completely. So he had to go to prevent that from ever happening again. It's really that simple.
3:08 in 4 insults 3 bodies and 1 casualty😂
Penguin and Colin deserve many awards
I like to think that the reason Oz kills Vik is because he saw that he was about to become like Oz. Oz know that he himself can not be trusted, he kills you if he needs to, so Oz knows that if Vik continue this patch, he will eventually become just like Oz and therefor can not be trusted. Oz needed to kill Vik before he will betray Oz.
Oz was jealous of Vic 🤣🤣 he's the one who told Vic to bring the mobs lol
Batman had some PTO days he was using this week.
😅😅😅
I was so inspired by your videos, I uploaded my first video essay yesterday. Comparing the similarities between Victor from Penguin and Jason Todd.
This was a MASTER CLASS in storytelling in a TV series and character development. MASTER CLASS!
yeah I don't think Oz was ever jealous of Vic. he legit cared for him but the reason he killed Vic is cause he saw him at his most vulnerable after seeing his mom in a coma and he can't have weakness. amazing show tho
Thanks to Colton and Pavel! 🐧
Longlive VILLAIN O.C.
Can’t wait for Batman to pummel Penguin’s face.
The ending did remind me of how Carmine got to the top. OZ chose the same way.
I feel like the second Vic calls Oz family, Oz see's him as another brother that must die. No one else can have Ma's affection
You can't let your right hand man stick around when every boss in gotham was just killed by their own right hand. If Oz didn't kill Vic then he'd be telling the rest of the city they can do it again.
Loved the video and detail! You have a new subscriber!❤
It was not missed that Ozwald's final outfit was a tophat and tails with an umbrella...
Weird how people expected him to behave anything other than a murdering mob boss. Bravo to all the actors in this show, well done.
Penguin development was so good At the end you cant believe you were rooting for him. I hope they don’t fuck up batman vs penguin
This series really made people forget the penguin is one of the most ruthless characters in DC😂😂😂
But the ended was masterful and made you realize why Oz is the penguin
