The Best thing about this show...and there was a lot of of great things...is they showed the Pengin as a Villain. Not an ati-hero or misunderstood vitcim, but a full blown, no redemption, pure evil Villain!
Bro you know how wicked you gotta be to make wilson fisk look like a saint☠️ I don’t wanna hype it up, but the parallel of Oz killing the one person on the planet who truly believed in him and loved him while still desperately clinging to his mother who hated him just so he can continue to crave her affection and approval was brilliant. I wondering why he kept eve alive and when he started talking to her it clicked. like truly great tv. dissapointed there was no batman cameo but the show was so strong without it that we didn’t need it, im just looking at bruce crazyyy cause he let everything happen😭 I’d love to see this show get some awards acknowledgement, very compelling
In the movie Bruce said, "It’s a big city, I can’t be everywhere.” This is a very realistic take on Batman, especially for one who just started & probably doesn't have any form of air transportation yet, it's tough to just drive everywhere. The end of the Penguin series even shows how huge Gotham is, look how far Oz's penthouse is from the Bat signal. Imo since Pattinson wasn't the Bruce Wayne we're all familiar with & he was neglecting the Wayne business in the first film, I feel like he's probably busy putting an effort into finally doing Bruce Wayne stuff during this series. Imo, that would be a solid explanation. Then in the next film, they wouldn't have to go through the whole "Bruce Wayne" transformation, which was already done in Nolan's Batman Begins, we don't really need to see it again (like Bruce's parent's death scene or Spiderman's origin, etc.).
This show was so good. Oz off'ing Victor was Oz tying up loose ends, it goes back to the airport hangar scene when you see the right hand man killing the leaders of the gangs. Oz explained to Sofia how all those guys were hungry and came from nothing, Oz could see that Vic was practically becoming like him and the cycle of betrayal would just repeat itself. Oz did love Vic like family though.
I feel like its both tying up loose ends and getting rid of a weakness. Oswald's mother is one of his weaknesses as Sofia was able to hold her captive to get to him and mentally torment him. Oswald was starting to care for Vic like family so Vic could have been another weakness for his enemies to use against him if he'd care for him a lot and he knows if he wants to rule Gotham, he can't have any weaknesses. But I def feel like its correlated with how the other right hands were killing their leaders too since its not just a coincidence that was shown right before Penguin kills Vic.
I've never wanted Batman to break his one rule for a member of his rouges gallery before. This episode changed that. Well done to the writers. They really made sure any feeling of wanting to see Oz succeed got washed away with this last episode. Brilliant.
The ending actually felt horrifying to me. In my mind, him with the mother at the top floor felt like he had propped up, almost a doll/corpse/simulacra of his mother in front of the window, to convince himself he realised -her dream- his promise of getting her a penthouse at the top floor.
I guess he had to in the end.. he wants to ascend the ladder and mix in with the politicians n all so i guess k1ll1ng Victor was him making that step from Crime boss to KING. And the Crime King always has his fingers in the local government and police..
They did a good job on making us like both Oz and Vic as a duo but then they reminded us that Oz is the villain and there were no exceptions. Such a great show!
21:55 It’s clearly a depiction of the Oedipus complex, and more obvious it becomes when you discover that the name Oedipus means “swollen feet”-a direct reference to Oz’s condition.
Insult to injury just erasing him from existence. But that really drives home that Oz has elevated into a real monster. Whatever care he may have had for Vic vanished the moment he corrupted Gotham's elite and has a new pathway to power. The sick thing is that Oz knows Vic has a good heart, which is why he also knows he's a liability to his political career as a snitch later.
@@vaderstarI was thinking that this whole time. They could always change their mind and just let him be dead but this is definitely setting up victor zsasz.
Her acting was absolutely brilliant this season, I think we can all agree Colin Farrell is fantastic too, but she’s got such a range of subtle tics and playful expressions in her scenes, that she always seems just about to snap, or just relishing something evil, yet somehow actually sympathetic even when she kills her family? Honestly she chews the scenery in every scene she’s in but never over-acts in a cheesy way, just the perfect blend of psycho fun for a villain like that.
Agree. There is zero need to develop the Penguin character anymore outside of him being in a movie as full on Penguin or a cameo in another series. The ending with him killing Vic cemented him as being pure evil. A season two series would take away from a perfect ending to the series.
Colin Ferrell killed it as Penguin. He's up there with Danny Devitos' nightmare enducing Penguin on my top list. My empathy for him fizzled out last week when we learned why his brothers are gone, and now, I wouldn't p**s on him if he was on fire. I spent most of the scene where Sophia was going to take his moms finger if he didn't admit what he done behind my blanket. All of the actors were great, but Colin deserves an award for his portrayal. I really hope someone drops Vic in the Lazarus pit.
I feel like that’s another reason for this show…. I mean how many times have we seen a marvel or even dc movie where they introduce a villain and he can be cool or flashy but that satisfaction in their defeat is just NEVER there… I can’t wait to see Batman beat the everlasting sh** out of the penguin.
this performance makes me think Collin Farrell could play Penguin , Joker, Bane , Ras Al Gul and prolly even poison Evy all in the same movie and somehow make it work... his face change in killing Vic was insane...
This has got to be the greatest live action comic book TV series ever. I know most fans of geek fandom want to complain and be cynical for the sake of being cynical these days but if someone says this series sucked, then they’re complaining to complain. There wasn’t one episode that was filler every episode meant something. The writing, the acting, the cinematography for this series was just all on point. This show was flawless.
I now have 100% confidence they can do something cool (heh) with Mr Freeze and other more fantastical villains like that. The Penguin in this is a smart mix of Al Capone and like the Tony Stark of bullshit.
The Penguin is not the anti-hero we were hoping for; he’s pure evil, as the last two episodes have shown. We can only hope he dies after what he did to Vic, but the guy has Rey “Skywalker” levels of plot armor lol
Im happy they slammed it into the ground that Oz is a HUGE PIECE OF SHIT. He was never an anti-hero, we really could have rooted for any player in this mob war lol they're all wretched criminals and killers worthy of a visit from Batboots. Its actually refreshing in a way to see a show where the villain actually wins. And completely wins. The power vacuum Batman and Riddler helped create has allowed Oz to rise, and hell have to take responsibility for that as both Bruce Wayne and Batman
I have some theories about vic that might be reaching but just hear me out... 1: He might be Jason Todd in reverse. He's betrayed by the penguin just like Jason Todd thought that the Batman betrayed him. He "dies" working for a villain and comes back working for a hero 2: there's a lot of symbolism and some of the episodes. We see him driving into a tunnel on a motorcycle just like the Batman. And he's caught stealing the rims from the penguins car just like jason tried doing to Batman. I think the shot of Oz throwing the Vics card into the water is symbolism for vic being reborn. 3. Although the penguin chokes vic, i don't think vic is dead. Passed out maybe but not dead. He may come back wanting revenge just like jason wanted revenge with the Batman. Vics character was too well written for him to be a throw away character for the penguin to just screw over and kill. Every character in this show has a bigger purpose in this universe. We need a robin in this universe and it needs to be victor🙏🏾
That's how you make a great villian's origin story. The perfect build up I've ever seen in entertainment history. This is undoubtedly the greatest tv show I've ever seen. If it was movie it'd have easily swipe so many Oscars. Masterful Writing, Direction, Amazing Performance by all cast, visually stunning as per a tv show, it felt so realistic. HBO make Masterpiece.
If you're already on the HBO train and enjoyed Penguin, definitely check out the Sopranos. It will blow your fuckin mind. Honestly I believe there were a lot of things in this show specifically patterned after that- and that's not a bad point at all.
10 out of 10 season 1. Amazing writing. Questions asked , questions answered .... The fact were getting this level commitment opens up sooooo many opportunities for this series. Just hopefully they contract the actors to the role and we get this level of performance in season 2. Colin nailed this as he always does. Great review bro

Wow, I just binge watch the Penguin by accident and this show was great! I was only suppose to watch one episode and get caught up later but I couldn't stop watching it. The penguin character is a master piece of a true villain. The ending was fantastic. I hope they do a season 2.
Thought the finale was one of the best I’ve seen maybe ever. Just the way they did beginning with the flashbacks and trying to reveal what Oz had did but kept us from knowing snd then ending with oz becoming his true self by killing the “last” family member. Brilliant!
The actor who played Vic would be a great casting choice for live action Miles Morales. He showed so much range and I would love to see him in more leading roles. I think he could play Miles perfectly.
If Sofia comes back in The Batman Part 2, it would be cool to have a scene in a similar setting to the one between Batman and Riddler at Arkham, in which she tells him that Selina told her to reach out to him and reveals what the Penguin has done during the series
The way I interpreted the ending with his mom, was that Oswald knew she was unhappy. He knew she wanted to die. But I think what she said to him actually DID get through to him, even if he was in denial at first. So that's his 'punishing' her by basically flaunting it in her face that she got everything she wished for, but also everything she deserved.
This series was so good!. The fact that Calabrese also knew the truth was crazy. I know thats was why the mother was so broken. All that anger, disgust, sadness just bottled up for years. I would love more villian back stories with Matt Reeves.
“Stabby thoughts” Francis was a great character. Knowing she knew about what Oz did, it brings more depth to the earlier episode when she said “if my son is a nobody then what does that make me” or something along those lines. Lots of tragic ends in this show. Edit: also, Sophia’s outfits this episode was just so🔥. Her black dress with the red scarf as the accent, and her final red outfit where she didn’t cover the scars on her neck because she felt free from here trauma.
I love this show. The amount of emotion I felt within the last 10 minutes of that final episode was insane. I honestly felt for penguin and was rooting for him the whole show and then he kills Vic which completely turned that around. And then the episode finishes and now I hope Batman breaks him in the next movie.
“Most guys that come to me say they want money. That’s fine, but greed don’t buy loyalty. If I want loyalty, I bring in guys who are looking for a father. They got a void to fill. They’d do anything for me.” Vic was exactly the kind of person Rex was describing. I believe this was the true reason he chose to stay with Oz. The riches of the life were part of it, sure, but Oz was a father figure to him. Unlike all the other right-hands who killed their bosses, Vic would have been loyal to the end.
I love the underlying writing in the show. Like when Sofia tells Oz “Oz the man of the ppl- you need to believe that huh” once he kills Vic you see he is the monster she calls him. Not a man of the Ppl
Also us having to see victor get taken out like a dumb bitch but we didnt get to see julian rush get beat to death really sucks. I hate julians character
I think its crazy how young oz almost pleads for his life at the club and reassures his mom he's going to give her everything she wants. That one convo made her call off rex from killing him. It makes me believe oz heard the convo between rex and his mom and schemed his way out of it. Would be cool, kind of a "I knew you knew all along." Maybe Oz is responsible for the death of Rex?
It was such a fantastic show, and I haven't said that in a while. The ending was so good with the teasers and mentioning Selena. I absolutely want a season 2 and now can't wait to see what Matt Reaves has for us in the Batman 2.
What I love with the letter from Selina it giving family members coming out the wood to get there financial cut lol. Selina will now takes the money that Sofia will obviously not have access to.
Bro I hope they leave it at this. Reallly no need for a season 2. Congrats to everyone. Don’t risk tarnishing this masterpiece. Anyone with me on this?
Unless they somehow can make another great villain for Oz to go up against in Season 2 and make a plot where it would make sense, then yeah I am fine with no season 2.
I can see Mr. Freeze being in Batman 2 to possible help the penguin with his mother. I love how we walked into the penthouse with his top hat in his hand. I did not think that he would kill Sofia Falcone. I was shocked to see him kill Victor. I guess he did not see him playing a part in is sick fantasy world that he is living in. Colin was great in this show.
I mean, Matt really meant it when he said we would hate the Penguin after this series 😭. Saying that if there was a way to do it justice I wouldn't mind this coming back for a season 2. R.i.p Vic, you deserved better!
The speech that young Oz gave to his mom was just sick.. That was the kind of speech that you give a woman that you are trying to bag.. He has a serious Oedipus Complex..
I knew something was off because penguin told Victor way too many lies about Sofia, his stab wound, how his mom got hurt, he also probably didn’t want Vic to see him as a monster and know just how dangerous he is to him
Oz dresses in the tux and hat not necessarily to cosplay his Top Hat fantasies, but because he has to look squeaky clean and presentable for city hall. Its an act, though he would eventually forget he's acting.

The Best thing about this show...and there was a lot of of great things...is they showed the Pengin as a Villain. Not an ati-hero or misunderstood vitcim, but a full blown, no redemption, pure evil Villain!
Something Disney marvel fail to do most of the time
Bro you know how wicked you gotta be to make wilson fisk look like a saint☠️ I don’t wanna hype it up, but the parallel of Oz killing the one person on the planet who truly believed in him and loved him while still desperately clinging to his mother who hated him just so he can continue to crave her affection and approval was brilliant. I wondering why he kept eve alive and when he started talking to her it clicked. like truly great tv. dissapointed there was no batman cameo but the show was so strong without it that we didn’t need it, im just looking at bruce crazyyy cause he let everything happen😭
I’d love to see this show get some awards acknowledgement, very compelling
It was a great finale!
Wilson Fisk at least cares about people
@@jayyy1677He cares about Vanessa and that's it
In the movie Bruce said, "It’s a big city, I can’t be everywhere.” This is a very realistic take on Batman, especially for one who just started & probably doesn't have any form of air transportation yet, it's tough to just drive everywhere. Then in the next film, they wouldn't have to go through the whole "Bruce Wayne" transformation, which was already done in Nolan's Batman Begins, we don't really need to see it again (like Bruce's parent's death scene or Spiderman's origin, etc.).
yeah fr i hoope they give them awards!
As soon as Vic said he was like family I knew it was over but it was still gut wrenching to see that. What a heartless monster.

I never thought of that - pretty much the show was entirely about lieutenants taking out their bosses for supremacy. Oz nullifying that threat early.
What masterpiece of a a finale
It was a great finale!
Nahhh it needs 3 hours long for finale.
I've never wanted Batman to break his one rule for a member of his rouges gallery before. This episode changed that. Well done to the writers. They really made sure any feeling of wanting to see Oz succeed got washed away with this last episode. Brilliant.
I yelled “Noooooo” when he started choking Vic. Can’t wait til Batman puts paws and feet on him.
Batman has paws?
This series was Epic, and the actors and writers deserves the awards...wow hoping a sequel happens
That mother shit with the mom was WERID ASF
Yep!
Real mommy issues
Yeah
The ending actually felt horrifying to me. In my mind, him with the mother at the top floor felt like he had propped up, almost a doll/corpse/simulacra of his mother in front of the window, to convince himself he realised -her dream- his promise of getting her a penthouse at the top floor.
I was hoping he wouldn’t kill Vick. He was a great character but also a great partner. Crazy that he killed him
But then again he did let his brothers die

@@jamilbarbee6169 Vic knew to much about him to let him live.
That's a good one
Break my hearts knowing probably wont ever identifying vic since oz threw his ID away and he doesn't have any family.

Cristin Milioti delivers a whole lot of acting with just those lovely, half-crazy, big brown eyes of hers.
The only clip about is insane
Her acting was absolutely brilliant this season, I think we can all agree Colin Farrell is fantastic too, but she’s got such a range of subtle tics and playful expressions in her scenes, that she always seems just about to snap, or just relishing something evil, yet somehow actually sympathetic even when she kills her family? Honestly she chews the scenery in every scene she’s in but never over-acts in a cheesy way, just the perfect blend of psycho fun for a villain like that.
I've been saying Oz's code is BACKSTABBING people
They should not do a season 2 and just do the Batman movie. However, another villain tv show would be good.
Yup. It's the perfect way to do another villain origin for batman 3.
Agree. There is zero need to develop the Penguin character anymore outside of him being in a movie as full on Penguin or a cameo in another series. The ending with him killing Vic cemented him as being pure evil. A season two series would take away from a perfect ending to the series.
Harvey Dent limited Series
They need to start slowly incorporating more characters in and make it the DC cinematic universe
They should do a Mr. Freeze tv show as the next villain
🐧”nothing is standing in your way”… 🦇 “ hold my beer”
Colin Ferrell killed it as Penguin. He's up there with Danny Devitos' nightmare enducing Penguin on my top list. My empathy for him fizzled out last week when we learned why his brothers are gone, and now, I wouldn't p**s on him if he was on fire. I spent most of the scene where Sophia was going to take his moms finger if he didn't admit what he done behind my blanket. All of the actors were great, but Colin deserves an award for his portrayal. I really hope someone drops Vic in the Lazarus pit.
I'm Irish ☘️ I knew Colin would be amazing as 🐧 hopefully another Irish actor Barry Keoghan will be a great Joker 🃏 when the time comes.
I highly doubt Reeves will add something like the Lazarus pit to his grounded universe

This has got to be the greatest live action comic book TV series ever. I know most fans of geek fandom want to complain and be cynical for the sake of being cynical these days but if someone says this series sucked, then they’re complaining to complain. Sofia and Selena absolutely need to have their own series. Whether that's as sisters together *or* as rival sisters. Either way works for me.
The Penguin is not the anti-hero we were hoping for; he’s pure evil, as the last two episodes have shown. We can only hope he dies after what he did to Vic, but the guy has Rey “Skywalker” levels of plot armor lol
Yeah, just when you started feeling, again, like maybe Oz really could be a halfway human, sort of father figure -- BOOM, nope. Pure psychopath.
The power vacuum Batman and Riddler helped create has allowed Oz to rise, and hell have to take responsibility for that as both Bruce Wayne and Batman
i dont think anyone was hoping for that lolol
Only morons were hoping for a well know villain to be a hero
The fuck are you going on about you fucking idiot
I have some theories about vic that might be reaching but just hear me out...
1: He might be Jason Todd in reverse. He's betrayed by the penguin just like Jason Todd thought that the Batman betrayed him. He "dies" working for a villain and comes back working for a hero
2: there's a lot of symbolism and some of the episodes.
Could he be victor zsasz when reborn

Thought the finale was one of the best I’ve seen maybe ever. Just the way they did beginning with the flashbacks and trying to reveal what Oz had did but kept us from knowing snd then ending with oz becoming his true self by killing the “last” family member. Brilliant!
This is the best show in 2024 the cast the crew , production design exploring more Gotham criminal underworld truly a masterpiece
RIP Victor this was a great series Thanks Charlie

This series was so good!. The fact that Calabrese also knew the truth was crazy. I know thats was why the mother was so broken. All that anger, disgust, sadness just bottled up for years.
I would love more villian back stories with Matt Reeves.
“Stabby thoughts”
Francis was a great character.
This show better win awards
The "She'll never look at me the same" then sudden tone shift of "if I dont get this done" in his conversation with Victor was interesting to me.
I’m probably reaching here, but Julian Rush was giving me huge Madhatter vibes the whole time

Vic was exactly the kind of person Rex was describing. I believe this was the true reason he chose to stay with Oz. The riches of the life were part of it, sure, but Oz was a father figure to him. Unlike all the other right-hands who killed their bosses, Vic would have been loyal to the end.
