    This is mine and Daniel Moura's project. We'd hoped to have the demo done this month but we are a little bit behind. All that empty space has to be filled with hazards and enemies. We want to have the final demo, before the KickStarter, to be well polished. I'll provide you with a demo before the kickstarter.
    In our game, the objective will be to find 20 lost survivers. We hope to have 4 (graphically unique) giant section along with a few some smaller graphically diverse sections. Some power ups will be influenced by the Metroid series while others will be unique to this game. The KickStart campaign is targeted for June or July with the completion of the game being the end next year. Our target for Kickstarter will be reasonable. We are looking to raise 20k to produce physical copies and so that Daniel Moura's can take a year off to program the game.

      “Space Hunter” isn’t a particularly inspiring name imo. Sounds quite derivative I think. Marketing is very important for a successful game so I hope y’all choose something different by the time you start the KS.

      @@The_SOB_II "Space Hunter" was the orignal name for Metroid in Japan before it was changed to Metroid. It's a way to signal to Metroid Fanboys that this is a Metroid game. Oh please, it seems it's on it's way to be more than "just a clone", which by today's standards there are tons of Mega Man style clones out there, entire franchises at this point, so Nintendon't have a leg to stand on here. It's clear it has a lot of inspirations from that series and this feels incredibly early in the development process. Personally I'd wait until it's completed and how they decide to release it.
      (If it becomes a Physical-only title, it'll fade into obscurity, so it's inevitable there will be a port/rom available at some point. Sad fact is, all older consoles tend to die eventually, and while there are ways around or to circumvent them, cartridges on the other hand don't last forever. Plus it'll have an incredibly limited release when it comes to physical, if I haven't already listed enough reasons why this will obviously get a digital release, then I don't know what to tell you.)

    He said "it's kinda empty" twice, when he'd only been through 5 rooms.. the two that WERE empty were literally transitioning rooms. The latter of which is one you'd only go to after unlocking an upgrade. Now, granted, sure, you could maybe put ONE enemy there, should you want to.
    But typically, if those rooms HAD actually been filled with enemies, then the complaint from everyone would've been "ugh why are these enemies here. It's just a hindrance to get to where I need to go."
    I can already see somebody responding snarkily like "Well that could be said about every enemy in every room" no.. there are literally things that are solely used for transitioning. Notice the rooms that DO have enemies tend to have certain layouts ideal for combat.

    This looks like a great start, but the potential here is promising.
    They could take some elements of "Alien Soldier" and "Turrican" to utilize what was pushing the hardware already and improve on that?
    Those were two Metroid-like games of the era when the Genesis was current.

    He's trying really hard to not say anything bad at all. But you can see a couple instances of discomfort on his face. And saying that she runs at different speeds due to the environment to make it sound like a feature, but in actuality it was just slow down. I sure hope they add diagonal shooting. And back drops.

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  6 месяцев назад

      There was no slow down. It's a game in early development. As a game dev for Sony, Xbox, 2K I know what this stage of development is like. constructive feedback is probably the most useful, but even at this stage many of the things on screen will change or be replaced.

    2:28 The first BGM. Heh. Somebody totally grew up with _Zillion_ on the Sega Master System / Mark III. For the curious: ruclips.net/video/tKhwO571-1U/видео.html I'll also observe that this cover of the SMS BGM is in the same key (C minor) and follows the same chord progression, so the SMS BGM, as opposed to the original anime OP, was clearly used as the base. The anime song, _Pure Stone,_ from which the SMS BGM was developed, was in A minor and used a slightly different progression: ruclips.net/video/JO9G1dCzSK0/видео.html
    I personally never owned a SMS but I did manage to play _Zillion_ on it back in the day and I was obsessed with it, partly because of the BGM and partly because of the anime look, the latter of which was, I assure you, brand spanking new in the American market. I'm pretty confident that _Zillion_ was the first incontrovertible example of the manga style to appear on console in the US, and by extension, in pretty much any form of media.

    Great video... the game seems like they really wanted to make a Sega MegaDrive super version of the NES Metroid game, not the Super Nintendo Super Metroid but they probably talked too much about it and feared possible legal action from Nintendo.
    Nintendo is in their rights to protect their IPs because most of the "fan game developers" have a tendency of putting up Patreons and ASKING for money which is the crucial slippery slope that creates the problem here as it could be seen as they are stealing the IP to make a profit off of it and that's before the cartridges show up being sold using original artwork created by the original designers and creators and programmers and sound designers in Japan so it becomes kinda unknown how much "profits" are made because you have pirates making cartridges too and SS Cartridge makers also profiting from those sales so it is a slippery slope.
    I never really got to play the first Metroid which is my fault but it was kinda stupid cause I watched a friend play it and later I got Super Metroid which was just a blast to play... and it is ironic because Nintendo could have EASILY made a Super Nintendo Remaster of the original Metroid and Gameboy Metroid 2 as well as the first two Zelda games on their respective cartridges back then in the 90s (if they could have found the schedule to fit it in) and have made millions of copies sold...
    Naturally Sega's original games are Sega's and I get it that they made this Metroid rom hack clone (rip off) so we can play on the Sega "Genesis" and MegaDrive so note I'm not hating, just calling it what it really is.
    That said I couldn't get the sense for the music... it sounded too much like "wannabe 16 bit" or something and the colors seemed a bit off... so maybe they're new at doing this but the original MegaDrive hardware is obviously more than capable of rendering colorful screens and amazing music and sound so I hope they can improve their effort...
    I still play Sega Master System, MegaDrive and Sega Saturn games... still play Super Nintendo and Nintendo games as well as N64. It's not even nostalgia for me cause the games were and still are fun af and I play PS3, PS2, PS1, PS4 and PS5 with Xbox One on the side but the idea of fan developed "ports" is a good idea, it's just that they can imo make a fully MegaDrive enhanced NES Metroid (graphics and sound obviously) but if they do then they cannot ask for money or profit from it cause years ago iirc in early 2010s some stores caught some heat from selling repros in the U.S.A. and then you had some people (not Nintendo) complaining and they probably called Nintendo which is why lawsuits happened in the first place.
    If they can Master making this on MegaDrive, maybe they should port an enhanced version for the SNK NeoGeo AES... more colors, larger graphics, etc... that would be wild.

    I loved the Sega Genesis, and still do, but what Nintendo ‘did’ that Genesis didn’t was excel with game design, a lot of which was timeless. A game like Super Metroid that was technically possible on the Genesis, and has gone on to inspire an entire sub-genre, was nowhere to be seen on the Sega. I wonder what would’ve happened had Sega pushed the envelope beyond speedy platformers and sidescrollers. Hope this gets released for PC/PS5 as well.

    • @apollosungod2819
      @apollosungod2819 6 месяцев назад

      Not really, yes Nintendo did stuff Sega just didn't but you need to understand that Nintendo of America in the 80s and 90s was NOT like Sega of America staff in the 80s and 90s... that is the huge reason why Nintendo was able to succeed...
      In Europe Sega got a bit of a late start due to the whole difference of NTSC/J/U vs PAL/SECAM which comes down to having to optimize the games for each...
      Had Sega somehow managed to establish themselves in the U.K. and Europe officially at least since 1987 the history would have been way different and we'd have seen how awful Sega of America's 90s staff really was.

      Super Metroid was a very special game and was unique among its SNES counterparts too. By the way, Wonder Boy/Monster World games can be considered proto "metroidvanias." Monster World IV, released at around the same time as Super Metroid, is also a very special game. It blows my mind that it wasn't released outside of Japan, at least not until decades later. There are plenty of Sega games with timeless designs, including in the JRPG, SRPG and ARPG genres.
