Thank you for the review Mike! Really glad you enjoyed the game :) Most graphics are the work of the talented Pixel Frog... As for the soundtrack, credit goes to the mighty Alexander Nakarada from Creatorchords for the original tunes (adapted to the YM2612 by brickblock 369). Cheers 🤟
Nice! Really Really pretty. Looks fun. Looks hit detection is there. I kept wanting you to hurt the baddies by landing on them.... Animation looks soo appealing! Sound is exactly what an adventure like this should be!
Really looking forward on playing Captain Barrel for the Neo-Geo Mike. I plan on purchasing the Limited Edition and Regular Edition for the AES in Japanese. 8^) Anthony..
Ha ha, Mike coming out throwing some shade! 😂 This looks like it'd be a lot of fun, actually. A good in-between larger gaming sessions style of play to break things up.
Wow! I'm loving the piratey vibes from the music! This looks really, really good too. I'd love to see it get a physical release. 11:08 YEAAAH!! He did the thing again!!
Level should simply end when the last barrel/enemy is defeated. Any loot remaining on screen at that point should just auto-collect, instead of forcing the player to go fetch (which is killing the pacing, imo). Presentation is fantastic.
Hey there, thanks :) We didn't want an autocollect feature, as ... forcing the player to fetch the coins/gems gives the final level a whole new planning/platforming dimension.
The pacing is actually just right. I don't think there is a lot of people who go big on these types of games. But if you are a fan of the genre, it's a great addition.
On the Mega Drive, the game is at least not as visually disappointing as on the Neo Geo, but the graphics still look like one of the countless simple PC indie platformers. Still decent though and with a charm of its own, just not on an arcade quality level like Rainbow Island, Parasol Stars or Liquid Kids. Would benefit from a visual upgrade.
@@awesomereviews1561 Just googled it and came upon that title called "effed with an anchor" - very cool indeed 🤣If you want to discover Alexander's work here's my favourite tune in the game's OST: ruclips.net/video/XfwnejbHZnM/видео.htmlsi=J5yhlTA_TRhgtziD Thanks ye scurvy dawg
Agreed. Please note that the MD/Genny version is strictly single player only anyway ; only the Neo Geo/NeoCD/DC have the 2 player-alternated feature. Thanks :)
I'm 43 and always stuck to my classics. After Sega Dreamcast I had a PS3 but everything since then is all woke and crap. Glad they making new games for the old systems great times.
This looks more like a Genesis game than a Neo Geo one... I am glad the game will be available on multiple support but I think this project would have been better received if it was a Megadrive project adapted on multiple support. Neo Geo fans are not young kids and they don't get fooled easily... And it is always better to respect your audience... Just saying...
It all looks good and all, but i hate the pirate character, looks like one of those generic indie game characters we see all too often nowadays. Unfortunately a real turn off for me personally.
@@Troll_Ha I can't give you an example because as soon as i see that graphical style I lose any interest to care to remember it's name, but I do know I've browsed and clicked on many many such examples on the PSN store over the years.

Looks great and I love it for my mega drive
Hey @Retro Gamer Boy thank you so much for your review! :)
For those interested, Pre-orders are now open for the sega mega drive/genesis! :)
enjoy :)
I'm all for Pirate themed games, especially new ones on the Mega Drive! Shiver me timbers!
You are a natural. 😅
Same. Genesis games? Pirates? Stop drilling, you've already struck oil!
It's something akin to what you might find on premium Indy Evervade carts.
0:05😂 Bravo Mike! This one is good.
😂
Looks like Captain Barrel himself moves painfully slow.
This looks fantastic.
Nice!
Really Really pretty.
Looks fun. Looks hit detection is there.
I kept wanting you to hurt the baddies by landing on them....
Animation looks soo appealing!
Sound is exactly what an adventure like this should be!
looks amazing and sound amazing but i wish the character was quicker on his feet. maybe they could balance it by making the enemies quicker.
Or some power ups like snow bros
Game muito bonito...fico feliz em saber que as pessoas ainda fazem games para jogos de 16bits!
The title has charisma and looks good... the colors are very beautiful and reminds me a little bit of Snow Bros. 🤩
Love the pixelart work!

Looks awesome! The gameplay is fun and the characters are so cute. The sound track is very nice too. 👍
Its a fun game. And if you like puzzle games then it's perfect.
BAM! There it is!
🤘😝🤘
I'm loving the look of this. If the price is right, this is another to add to my collection.
Yup, if its priced right they could do very well with it.
@@RetroGamerBoy it looks like it's priced nicely. €60 for the Gold edition with soundtrack and signed postcard, or €38 for the standard edition.
I'm not a collector at all, but that's an admirable collection you've built right there!
@@EnjoySynthSounds He almost got them all (Mega Drive/Genesis)
That second level theme, ran straight out of bikini bottom 😊
Nothing wrong with being inspired by another game.
@@RetroGamerBoy Indeed, and they nailed the aesthetic of it ❤️
This is similar to the under rated neo geo game nightmare in the dark.
Most wholesome mega drive channel
Thank you 🙏

The player avatar moves too slowly imho, otherwise it's a cool Snow Bros-like game

If this are the new games ,then i prefer the old ones.
Fair enough. Not every game is for everyone.
Nice Review. can you play with 2 players mode?
I don't think so.
When’s the collectors edition coming back Mike?
Every week, but there is always a new game coming out, so it get pushed back.
@@RetroGamerBoy double drop! 😂
NeoGeo „Nightmare in the Dark“ Clone…
👍
Always glad to see new games for retro consoles, but this one looks like a miss for me. Just seems too derivative, even if the artwork is fun.
do we know how many copies of this game will be released for the UK? and if you think its worth pre-ordering it now.
I don't know
we are a small team and this is a limited batch of carts so better pre-order when it's available :)
@@ozzyyzzoful thanks buddy
Is the music from Alestorm but in chiptune format?
Hi there, the original music is by Alexander Nakarada :)
@@johnny16bitmmm, sounds extremely similar to Alestorm (a folk metal pirate band).

Sinceramente parece de8 bit , creo que hasta máster sistema.podia ejecutarán juego así, excepto por los samples claro
Low blow on Sony. They DEI'd too close to the sun, it seems.
It will be back in 6 months.

Well this is covering the MD version. I'm never against new games for my old console.
@@RetroGamerBoy Of course! I was only trying to explain why the community seems less enthousiast for this project, compare to other retro projects.
Not really impressed. Not bad, but not something I would buy.
