On a serious note the presentation of this is definitely what we would expect from CD games or the time with plenty of cutscenes. 16 bit systems both consoles and computers were really held back by the storage of the time because despite CDs being around they were still considered a luxury thing until the mid 90s. The problem is that all of those games are owned by big companies that aren't likely to give a small developer permission to port them to the megadrive. Indie developers could do the port anyway, but wouldn't be able to sell it for risk of being shut down by the IP owner. Of course they could always make a game that' "inspired" by a classic arcade game, but if they stay too close to the original they could still have legal trouble.

Which leads me to ask: is the advanced music in stereo? The little I know about how the MD/Genesis works makes me think the fancy music is in mono, but there’s no way to tell from this vid.
Pretty sweet. I'm not much of an RPG fan, myself, but this look a bit more my speed. It would be really cool if they showed the Sega CD some love with a port that took advantage of the added hardware.
@miltonbates6425 Ha, I think homebrew needs to be defined more. This looks real cool. My only complaint is with the shooting, if the target just made you shoot in that direction instead of having to put the target on them.
This actually adds quite a bit of fun to the mechanic. You have that Jeopardy of having to be on target and the satisfaction of succeeding. You can also upgrade your aim which increases your area of effect. The demo should be out soon so you can try it out.
Don't worry, Life on Mars 2 is in our "to-do" list, but as we stated every time we were asked, we will release it in a few years, we have some other projects to go through first, and it is a good idea to space genres so it doesn't get too repetitive.
5:45 - 8:00 you say "final fantasy vibes" because...? You seriously weren't just thinking "they're both RPGs so they obviously feel the same" right? Thanks for bringing this game to everyone's attention but actually knowing what you're talking about next time would be really good additional value to the video.
The settings of some of the modern games are in less fantasy worlds and involve guns, and the narratives combine super natural elements. Kind of like FF15
Kinda curious to know if this game will get a port. Part of what made Xenocrisis cool were the nonstop ports. Could always use another game on the Evercade or N64
We already have put an insane amount of budget into the production and development of this game. We would have loved to add voices but that is well above our budget, unfortunatelly.
😅 yup game dev takes time. The good thing is that if you don't mind not being credited in the manual, and don't mind saving a bit of cash. Then you can order it when it comes out.
Oh man. This game looks so fking epic. Kai Megazine are always up for a challenge. I remember when they first showed off the intro of the game and I jokingly asked if they would put mutant chickens in the game. I felt this was important to ask since they had put them in Life on Mars but not Life on Earth. I was assured they would "find an excuse" to put them in the game. Glad to see they keep up their promise. I instandly wanted to put up my preorder but than I saw that the game doesn't work properly on clone systems. I have limited space so putting up an original Mega Drive is difficult for me. I understand that some clones can't pull this off(extra chips usually require the 9 volt pin which alot of clone systems don't have). But I don't see a reason why something like the Mega SG shouldn't be able to handle this. I will have to see how I can move some things around. I will move soon and I have plans for a CRT area. But that was ment for PS2 and N64. I thought I could use something like the Retron 3 HD in case I wanna play something casual on a CRT since that one has composit out. Back to the drawing board for me I guess.
I do remember you requesting for the mutant chickens to return, among others, and we aim to please ^_^ Regarding the Mega SG: We haven't been able to test it with a Mega SG so we really don't know if it fully works, the game itself will run for sure, but if the Mega SG does not have the AUDIO line from the cartridge slot connected to the audio mixer, the game will run without any music, just what happens to the original Sega Genesis and Megadrive MK3 (which doesn't have that audio pin connected), so in order to be safe, we say it only works with OG Sega Genesis / Megadrive MK1 and MK2.
@RetroGamerBoy awesome! I've got mine pre-ordered already! Thanks for always clueing us in on these sweet, new Genesis releases! I really appreciate your channel. I love The Getaway, by the way. One of the best PS2 games!

@@ninjagaiden86 I've given this some thought. Since the Mega Sg is the only clone console to have an extension connector for the Mega-CD, cartridge and CD audio can be toggled on and off in the UI settings and Analogue stating that the cartridge slot needs to be connected to the audio line, then in theory, this game might just work on a Mega Sg after all.
I'm very interested in pre ordering this, but the fact that sound may not work if the Sega CD and/or 32x is attached concerns me. I don't want to have to separate everything to play this. Can you or anyone confirm or deny any of this?
If you have a MK1 V1 Mega drive with the expansion port on the back then you won't get the CD soundtrack. I've not tried it with the 32X. You can still play the game fine, you'll just have the FM sound track and not the CD one.
Great use of shadow and highlight. The game looks very promising. Has the Sega CD features been used just for the sound and the Megadrive running all of the graphics?
This game looks and sounds very impressive. I'm very curious about the FM soundtrack. If I had one nitpick it's that the text doesn't use any contractions to make it sound natural. "It's" instead of "it is" and "he's" instead of "he is" and so on. Previous Kai magazine games were written the same way and I guess it has that late 80's and early 90's localisation charm.

15:35 love it!
😁
Gameplay reminds me of SNES Shadowrun. He also wore a trench coat.
I never played it. I'll need to get that.
@@RetroGamerBoy Mike if you like this you will really enjoy Snes Shadowrun !
Mike another great video and wow what a game, haven’t seen graphics like that since the red zone opening and as for the sound this is immense and shows what the megadrive can do. This console we love is having some very talented developers making games like this and where will we get to next, full motion video games 😀😀😀, who knows. I’m defo looking at the pre order as like you love Kai magazine software. Anyway love your videos and glad you back more regularly cheers Jonathan 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Jonathan. Yup I can't wait to play more of this. I'm already hooked on this modern world mixed with spirits thing it's got going on.
I love SEGA I'm a SEGA kid, so cool a new SEGA game
Sega all the way.
Can you say "transparencies on the Genesis?!" I see multiple transparent characters on screen!
It's insane what they can achieve.
Thank you for showing me that awesome game!
Anytime.
Your enthusiasm is infectious Mike 🙌🐢
😅 thanks
I thought Life on Mars 2 was going to be their next game. Hopefully they haven't given up on it. The first one was great.
Don't worry, Life on Mars 2 is in our "to-do" list, but as we stated every time we were asked, we will release it in a few years, we have some other projects to go through first, and it is a good idea to space genres so it doesn't get too repetitive.
@@kaimagazine8221 sweet!
I would love to see that.
Looking at this, you would love Shadowrun on the SNES, it's basically the same kind of interface.
I need to play it.
Awesome game. I wish they made a digital version for us poor soles with no mega drive.
The cover art is awesome too
There may be a ROM but that won't have the CD sound.
Wow this game looks awesome! Reminds me a little bit of Shadowrun on SNES.
A lot of people are saying this. I never played it. I should check it out.
@@RetroGamerBoy You should. I bought a SNES for myself only because of this game, Shadowrun is a real masterpiece.
Kinda curious to know if this game will get a port. Part of what made Xenocrisis cool were the nonstop ports. Could always use another game on the Evercade or N64
It would be great on the Evercade.
Just ordered mine!
🤘😝🤘
Soon as I heard the music and voice samples I was like agh jealousyyy. This is really impressive.
The graphics also looks like the Japan exclusive Sega CD game "Illusion City".
Hi!. Thanks for making these kind of videos 🙂👍
Anytime
Fantastic shirt, collection, and news, thank you!!
🤘😝🤘
It's like Shadowrun with Snatcher cutscenes. Shame they don't have any voice.
Imagine that. Now that would be insane.
We already have put an insane amount of budget into the production and development of this game. We would have loved to add voices but that is well above our budget, unfortunatelly.
Reminds me of Shadowrun!
High praise
Looks great. Reminded me of Shadowrun but with Shin Megami Tensei vibes.
Nice.
Your shelves look awesome man! Jealous!
Thanks 👍
Damn, I wish this was on pc.
Maybe they will bring it to other platforms in the future.
I want to buy this as it looks and sounds amazing, but hate the idea of waiting until next year to receive it.
😅 yup game dev takes time. The good thing is that if you don't mind not being credited in the manual, and don't mind saving a bit of cash. Then you can order it when it comes out.
Oh I’m definitely pre-ordering it 😁
looking forward to order mine soon :D
I'll be picking up a copy. But do I go for the collectors edition???
@@RetroGamerBoy its so very tempting for me as well..... what would Odin do......
Kai Magazine is AwEsOmE!!!
Yes they are 😁
Along with the other games mentioned, this also seems similar to Parasite Eve, a demake version.
That's a cool comparison
Looks great. Too bad I'm broke. Would love to play it...
The best think about Kia Magazine is that they continue to sell their games after the pre-order window.
They should add the lightgun(konami justifier) option to use in the combats. xD
That would be cool.
@@RetroGamerBoy yes. Give them that suggestion, if its possible.👍
I do remember you requesting for the mutant chickens to return, among others, and we aim to please ^_^
Regarding the Mega SG: We haven't been able to test it with a Mega SG so we really don't know if it fully works, the game itself will run for sure, but if the Mega SG does not have the AUDIO line from the cartridge slot connected to the audio mixer, the game will run without any music, just what happens to the original Sega Genesis and Megadrive MK3 (which doesn't have that audio pin connected), so in order to be safe, we say it only works with OG Sega Genesis / Megadrive MK1 and MK2.
Yup these guys are the best.
Thanks for clarifying this. I have a mega SG, so this is great to know ahead of time!
This looks really interesting. How's the shooting controls feel?
It feels really good. And us you upgrade your aim you really feel the difference.
@RetroGamerBoy awesome! I've got mine pre-ordered already! Thanks for always clueing us in on these sweet, new Genesis releases! I really appreciate your channel. I love The Getaway, by the way. One of the best PS2 games!
Kai are claiming it won't work with the Analogue Mega Sg.
Yeah that’s making me not wanna get it..
We haven't been able to test it with a Mega SG so we really don't know, but if the Mega SG does not have the AUDIO line from the cartridge slot connected to the audio mixer, the game will run without any music, just what happens to the original Sega Genesis and Megadrive MK3 (which doesn't have that audio pin connected), so in order to be safe, we say it only works with OG Sega Genesis / Megadrive MK1 and MK2.
I guess they need someone with an SG to test it.
@@RetroGamerBoy I do testing for retrobit. They can hit me up 🫡
Wow this looks so cool
Totally agree.
Preordered @@RetroGamerBoy
This game seems more like Shadowrun than FF.
I'm sure there are quite a few games that this can be compared to.
Did you capture from a CRT? that would have been the best!
Almost. I took the RGB signal through and OSSC and into an elgato HD.
Is this really running on SEGA Mega Drive hardware??? Amazing!!!
Yup. The feed is straight from my MK1
Great use of shadow and highlight. The game looks very promising. Has the Sega CD features been used just for the sound and the Megadrive running all of the graphics?
Just for the enhanced music. Everything else is 100% Original Megadrive / Genesis alone.
These guys know how to push the MD 🤘😝🤘
@@RetroGamerBoy Nice. The FM music on it's own sounds great so having an optional CD soundtrack as well is awesome!
Looks awesome! And sounds really great!
Yup. They have done it again.
Killer game , great episode
Yup, we keep getting these great games.
wow....reminds me of Shadowrun!!! i love it!!! i just don't like the high cost of shipping to US
I'm not sure how they get around that.
OSSC does not add the hum. That must be the poor shielding in your SCART cable.
Quite possibly
