Yeah, i will order the bigscreen now.
Thanks very much Steve for sharing this! Very promising. I'm considering buying the BSB. 1. This HMD has no eye-tracking however. GIve this a go in space sim please like Elite dangerous or Squadrons etc. Curious how well the OLED performs in the darkness of space. My reverb G2 black levels are horrible for space sims.
I would want one for sure. But Im not in favor of installing base stations around my PC. If an Inside Out Tracking version was made, I would buy it in an instant.
If they made an inside out tracking one, it would double the weight (which in most consumers opinions is alright, but BS has said that it's not in their philosophy to do so)
I just sent in my facial scan! Anxiously awaiting my Beyond. I think some VR consumers get so caught up in specs and fov, that they forget about comfort and enjoying the overall experience. With no light leakage from the custom made facial gasket, our eyes will adjust to the light levels, so the brightness level is actually controlled by our eyes moreso than the oleds. I play DCS and when I'm dogfighting in VR in any other headset, they'll move and the image quality and fov means exactly nothing until I can reposition the headset. By then, I'm normally shot down, ruining the whole deal. My .02
This is exactly why I am buying one. DCS and sim racing, and possibly watching movies.. I am not sure I think that will be better than a movie theater or my own 7.2 home theater setup.. but I would imagine for those times when I cant use my loud speaker system, a good set of headphones and this might work really well.
I'm using the resolution of my 4k monitor and the distance I'm watching from! The angle of field of view for my monitor is 41 degrees. that means I have 93 pixels of resolution per degree! For me, this is the standard! This VR set can present 32 pixels per degree of field of view according to the manufacturer. That's not enough for mee! It's almost as if I have a 1080p monitor instead of 4k in 31.5 coll, which would be a huge quality loss on my part! Of course, the feeling of freedom must compensate, and at first I'm fascinated by the fact that I can turn my head and look where I want in the game, but I'll notice the bugs later on and it will start to annoy me! I know, I know myself. I will not compromise on image quality! When one of the VR sets reaches 90 pixels per degree resolution, I'll see what I can buy. Until then I'll wait for the next generation!
Interesting! Maybe I shouldn’t have listened to all the reviews as I purchased the Crystal lol! Fyi… My VR Rock lenses for the Crystal cause a bad warp and distort the view terribly. Unusable, just like their lenses for my G2, which kept falling off.

It's more obvious with this headset because it's so small and because if you think about it, my face moves when I'm talking, causing the headset to move. You don't notice this in VR.
As far as resolution is concerned; how would you say this perform for DCS spotting, zooming or otherwise objects in the distance for sake of visual ID of aircraft etc? Great series thank you

Pretty interesting. After using the Reverb i realized how much more valuable comfort and ease of use is compared to resolution claims. Im sick of the clunky headset, the cable is way too annoying for me and ive spent more hours fiddeling with the headset that actually playing a game with it. Ill definitely look at more reviews of this one.
The cable was pretty annoying for me with Reverb G2 V2, but I bought a pulley cable management system (not Kiwi, even cheaper one, I have a very small room) and it doesn't bother me anymore. It's a huge difference. Even when playing seated it's so much more comfortable if cable doesn't pull on your headset and you don't need to be careful to not damage your cable with your chair. As for the standing experience, I can crouch easily, and in theory I can even lay down, but the cable pulls on the headset then, but I have no issues if I need to temporaly lower my head almost to the floor level for some reason. I'm curiously looking at Beyond mostly for the comfort, as very light hmd with perfect fit (my nose isn't perfect for G2) would be great. Investing money into Valve's base stations and controllers wouldn't be so great, though, so I'll wait a few years for some more impressive headsets.
i still kept my CV1 just for the OLED screen. Even tho i use the 8kx now, i still miss the oled screen. For example i can't play elite dangerous in 8kx cause of the LCD. I am curious how the BigScreen compares with the 12k pimax
I had it and headset is great, but the eye relief is so small, it’s unusable for most. It’s like looking through soda straws while trying to keep the headset in the right position so you can see the screens. Great form factor, but totally unusable… then they charge you $200 to send it back! Heads up I do not recommend this headset for simming
All very well. But the technology is STILL too expensive, is still a pain to set up and is still nowhere near attracting a large enough market to cut the price. Most people do not enjoy the claustrophobia, the flaky quality control, the annoying glare and the poor field of view, plus the need to additionally buy ridiculously expensive GPUs to make it worthwhile and yet again this headset is producing a jerky image. All these reasons explain why a tiny minority bother with VR. For the same price you could have three large 2d HDR monitors without all the faff.
I’m really lost on what to do will for my g2 upgrade. Tried the Pimax crystal and had a lot of issues with horizontal lines so I returned it. Thinking new XR4, but it’s a lot of $. I like the idea of the small size, not sure I like the idea of base stations. Would I be happy with the clarity of this? Used for msfs and dcs?
Hey question for you since ur one of the few that tests very high end headsets, how far along of the way there would you say a quest 3 or pico neo 3 link is compared to let say a varjo aero or big screen? I only do PCVR simracing. Im guessing it's quite a bit better, but wondering if it's that much better that i'd want to pay 3x the price for it (obviously that part is subjective to me).
Zero Lamborghini Muira. Great stuff! It better be amazing for 1000 dollars. In the grand scheme of things and waste, coupled with escapism from reality, that's not too shabby. (Liquid cooled Suoercharged PCs for all. I should buy a real airplane by now.)
If this truly requires base stations like the Valve Index, this headset is not for me, no matter how good it is. i do only SIM racing games. Also I do have a Valve Index, but hardly use it anymore. But thanks for the review.
If it had eye tracking for dynamic Foveated rendering I’d have bought it but I went with the Varjo aero instead. Wondering if I made the wrong choice as my choice of games doesn’t seem to take much advantage of eye tracking and DFV.
Are controllers not necessary to use this with flight sims? I notice they don't offer any on their site. With my Rift S, the only reason I need a controller is to set the floor level and draw the Guardian boundary that's required before I can use it. I take there's no such requirement with the Beyond?
I sim race..... how does this compare to the Pimax and the Vero for sim racing with respect to clarity, sharpness and graphics? I can deal with the lesser FOV personally but curious if anyone is able to chime in.
The Beyond will be the first headset I get, unless a better one with the same or similar size releases. I wish I could spend less money, but I already have scoliosis, and a brick bringing my head forwards won't help. I'll still have to buy the base stations and controllers :(
This is exactly what I have predicted. A wired but very light weight comfortable and small VR headset with insane graphics. That stupid wireless standalone headset will never be able to achieve this. For those of us who play VR games sitting, not standing. This new VR headset is the goat.
I would say oposite, if i had one big headset and one small headset, and i had to choose, i would choose the small for standing and the big for sitting. Surely it’s obvious
I'll be so interested to hear your impressions of the Somnium VR1 once you get hands on it! The things that have kept me from getting the Beyond: small FOV, lack of adjustability, lack of off-ear audio, lack of eye tracking. I understand the audio strap might offer the ability to adjust the drivers to hover over the ears, but is that strap even available yet?
i have reverb g2 v2 which is better pimax crystal or bigscreen beyond and is there a big jump from the reverb g2 to a big csreen beyond or pimax crystal for mfs only cheers
And what are the 6 reasons why Bigscreen Beyond is terrribleeeee lol. Let me guess: 1. FOV sucks 2. No headphone sucks 3. No DFR sucks 4. No auto IPD adj sucks 5. Low refesh rate sucks 6. Low nits sucks
Hey Steve I am going to become the devil's advocate and say this : You had a very strong and positive opinion on the Crystal and your earlier reviews of BSB to me came across as "yeah it's very comfortable but image quality is not comparable to the crystal" - what changed ? :) - you are awesome and this comment by no means is to cast doubt on your valuable opinions. on a side note - now that the Crystal has DFR and eye tracking have you considered moving back to native resolution? - thanks as always - Kam
FI, I'm seriously looking at a Quest 3, as I would like to dip my feet into MR and its possible use for real button sim cockpits, also it has excellent optics from the Pro, wide eye box (edge to edge clarity), similar resolution to the G2, support for the new streaming codecs, as I have a 4090 and of course ..price. Are you looking at getting one for review? @@VRFlightSimGuy
The crystal is an awesome headset during the day. At night when it's pitch black it looks like you're looking through foggy goggles because of the blooming which is something I wish someone would have said before I bought the headset.
When people mention the blooming, are they referring specifically to flying at night in a flight sim, or when generally wearing the headset in the evening when the ambient light in the room will likely be a lot lower? If it's the former I don't mind because I'm not really bothered about flying in the dark, but if it's the latter then it's definitely a problem for me, because I'm most likely to use the headset late in the evenings.
So the question, Crystal or BSB for DCS and IL2 lol. Too many good options atm with the Aero price drop, getting analysis paralysis. The BSB size is huge thing for me as I prefer my own headphones over the built it stuff anyway and my Quest Pro moves around as is in a dogfight, can't imagine the Crystal.
Have you let your other half try it? It would be great if the faceplate was detachable so that others could also use it with their own 'scanned' faceplate (say couples, friends or families). Would you agree that BSB could offer this to open up their market from solo users to those that want to share the VR experience 🤔
it is detachable. you will be able to order addition face plates for other users in your family. They need the same IPD or similar of course. because the IPD is fixed when you order. .
Isn’t the video shown in this review via PC video capture? It wouldn’t matter if the headset being worn was an Oculus Go it would have the same quality shown in this review. These aren’t filmed with a camera in headset showing what an actual eye would see. Of course using a camera in any headset, even some multi-million dollar headset would massively degrade the quality, but there should be an overlay or lower thirds title or something saying this is not actual video from the headset. Every audio description in this video does not apply to the video we’re actually seeing other than comments about size and weight. I’m sure the quality is great but don’t pass this off as actual video of what’s seen on the OLED screens even if what the eye sees in the headset is better than what RUclips could deliver. Since there’s an affiliate link this is akin to false advertising.
So when you watch a car review, are you also going to complain that you don't feel like you are in that car? Or maybe you should listen to what I'm saying, since that's what of value. Also, watch my full review where I go through everything, including the things I don't like. This video is literally about the 6 things I DO like. So you've completely missed the point of this video and wasted my time having to explain this to you...
I dont wanna be rude, but this review left me knowing pretty much nothing. So is it better? Or not? Sky, black, and it is light..good…and how does it compare to others actually
Patiently waiting for my February Pre-order. As a valve index user this seems like a perfect replacement. Hopping to have mine sometime in 2023 if I'm one of the lucky few.
Just started looking at VR headsets so the timing is great! One question. Do you get a sense of "depth" looking at two screens? I assume the picture is the same on each screen? OK, two questions!))
The picture is not the same on the screens - the viewpoints are shifted a little and a separate image is rendered on both screens for each eye. That's how you get depth perception in VR and in reality - each eye gets a slightly different image and the brain interprets the differences..
@@martf3129 Yes, VR is stereo, like a Viewmaster reel. Looking out the right window downward, you almost want to hold on to something to keep from falling. But after awhile that sense of vertigo fear goes away. Just like when someone is first learning to fly from an instructor in a small plane.

Is that "Wobble" presumably from sensitivity to your head movement as noticeable in vr as it is in youtube? is there any way to dampen it?
I sim race..... how does this compare to the Pimax and the Vero for sim racing with respect to clarity, sharpness and graphics? I can deal with the lesser FOV personally but curious if anyone is able to chime in.
Would you recommend it over the crystal? I'll use it mainly for sim racing.
Flying and Sim Racing are the two most nit picky sims for VR quality. Its a rabbit hole.
The Beyond will be the first headset I get, unless a better one with the same or similar size releases. I wish I could spend less money, but I already have scoliosis, and a brick bringing my head forwards won't help. I'll still have to buy the base stations and controllers :(
Don't know why it costs €300 more in the EU than the US though. That's 1/3 more.
I would love to use VR on MSFS2020, but my laptop will 💥💥💥
They look great but £1,149 is out of my price range, lots of saving
if I can put a vive ultimate tracker on bigscreen VR to give it inside out tracking, I would.
lol I’m glad we can all agree that the pymax crystal is such trash compared to this. At like double the cost it’s half as good
This is exactly what I have predicted.
But for 1000 I can get two q3’s and get one for my buddy to fly with me
@@snagingapple84 so 3 quest 3s
I didn’t see controllers aren’t included for 1000? Damn
I think once the Immersed Visor comes out it will be a good contender for the Bigscreen Beyond.
Jeez!! I should bloody well hope it's good at over 1100 quid.
The fov is not very good, and this is a wire headset. It's not worth it for me. Im going for mobile and better fov headsets
The strap should be coming sometime in Q4, IIRC.
The headset can be the best in the world, but when msfs2020 is a stuttering piece of shit it doesn't matter to me.
06:38 - is that Venus behind your plane? Just right of the horizontal stab?
i have reverb g2 v2 which is better pimax crystal or bigscreen beyond and is there a big jump from the reverb g2 to a big csreen beyond or pimax crystal for mfs only cheers
That a big question, but I have a video about that out this Sunday,
Seriously wish bigscreen beyond would include ipd so I could share it…
And what are the 6 reasons why Bigscreen Beyond is terrribleeeee lol. Let me guess:
1. FOV sucks
2. No headphone sucks
3. No DFR sucks
4. No auto IPD adj sucks
5. Low refesh rate sucks
6. Low nits sucks
Some of those I agree with. Thanks for the video suggestion 👍
Is this still the best VR headset currently ? Great video btw
Can you do so that you fly from screen and someone sits on the co-pilot seat using VR?
Hey Steve I am going to become the devil's advocate and say this : You had a very strong and positive opinion on the Crystal and your earlier reviews of BSB to me came across as "yeah it's very comfortable but image quality is not comparable to the crystal" - what changed ? :) - you are awesome and this comment by no means is to cast doubt on your valuable opinions. on a side note - now that the Crystal has DFR and eye tracking have you considered moving back to native resolution? - thanks as always - Kam
Hi Kam, nothing has changed, this video focuses on the 6 main plus points for the Beyond, however, the Crystal has the better display and optics :)
Imagine the Crystal and BSB love baby...
How about the glare. Is it not so noticeable after a weeks use?
Glare is still an issue for sure. (see pinned comment). Thanks for watching!
Headphones?
Why? It's the first thing I remove from HMDs.
Yair well at that price I'll be dead before it's low enough for me to afford it 😂
The crystal is an awesome headset during the day.
If it's the former I don't mind because I'm not really bothered about flying in the dark, but if it's the latter then it's definitely a problem for me, because I'm most likely to use the headset late in the evenings.
it looks exactly like my cheap monitor, so i am not going to buy one of these...
I have that very video on the channel this Sunday
@@VRFlightSimGuy Ah man I have to wait 3 days...
They need the same IPD or similar of course. because the IPD is fixed when you order. .
That’s great to know 😊
Funny enough, Melissa did use it, even though her IPD is vastly different. Long story short, she loved it.
My G2 quickly looking like the original Xbox
Headset that costs three times more than the rest is better... well well..
CAN YOU WATCH MOVIES AND RUclips FILMS
Do you need base stations for flight simulation?
This actually does better than the HP G2?
Can you be somehow able to see your hands with this headset?
Glad to hear you are enjoying big screen; I am really tempted to order one.
Overpriced unipersonal sh*t...
If one later decides to sell this headset, can the new owner get a new face cushion?
I just looked at their website and they offer replacement face cushions, no prices as yet.
@@KevinMick That is great, but it really has no resell value as the IPD will be locked to the first user. For that reason I will not buy this headset.
When watching a high quality movie. Do the pixels disappear completely? Meaning, it's like I'm watching the movie on a TV screen!!
There's zero SDE in this headset
This looks quite a bit like the valve infinite.
I dont wanna be rude, but this review left me knowing pretty much nothing.
So is it better? Or not?
Sky, black, and it is light..good…and how does it compare to others actually
It's not a review. This is focusing on 6 positive points. For my review, check out my full review video.
Patiently waiting for my February Pre-order. As a valve index user this seems like a perfect replacement. Hopping to have mine sometime in 2023 if I'm one of the lucky few.
same
I had it and sent it back… cost me $200 in re-stock fees. Just buy a quest3
@@Vr-pits-simulationwhat didn't you like about it?
quest 3 will be better and a fraction of the price
If only it didn't cost so fucking much :(
Have to run it on a PC, correct? No standalone?
Just started looking at VR headsets so the timing is great!
One question. Do you get a sense of "depth" looking at two screens? I assume the picture is the same on each screen?
OK, two questions!))
The picture is not the same on the screens - the viewpoints are shifted a little and a separate image is rendered on both screens for each eye. That's how you get depth perception in VR and in reality - each eye gets a slightly different image and the brain interprets the differences..
@@tomaszwota1465 Exactly the answer I was hoping for! Thank you.
@@martf3129 Yes, VR is stereo, like a Viewmaster reel. Looking out the right window downward, you almost want to hold on to something to keep from falling. But after awhile that sense of vertigo fear goes away. Just like when someone is first learning to fly from an instructor in a small plane.
Oh yeah, it's stereo. You have perfect depth perception, it's not like a display on your face. It feels like you're there.
Did you mean moiré? (mwa-ray)
I’m guessing as a glasses wearer this is a no go?
