i agree. companies need to make money in order to give you some features, like stuff going on on servers, and continuing app development, but basic stuff could be done without a server. part of the issue may be that they do not sell a lot of these, and so the cost per sale is a lot, and the other problem is greed, because who would not like to have thousands of people sending them several dollars per month?
Well-guarded? Every smart ring comparison review has this as their first downside when it comes to Oura. They might not embellish it on their website, but they are are open about what you get and what you don't get without an active subscription. That's something you don't find as much info online, because there aren't many articles that talk about buying used rings from the last gen.
I bought the BKWAT smart ring, which surprised me. It has extraordinary performance and exquisite appearance at half the price. I wore it at night to test my sleep and it was great.
Big warning to everyone! I ordered about 2 months ago and haven't received my sizing kit...I tried to cancel my order and request a refund (no ring has been shipped, as mentioned not even the sizing kit has arrived) and they refuse! Horrible customer service!
Thanks - Im not really interested in getting the ring but this is an excellent review. I'll stick with my Garmin instead of paying monthly for my own data.
Although I like watches more, I find your review interesting, and I agree with your perspective: I might be interested in a ring, but def wouldn’t pay a monthly subscription for it. But I hope they would improve the design of the superhuman ring: it looks a little too thick and « plastic-like » for me.
I bought the ring based on your recommendation but sent it back after 1 month and switched to Oura. Oura is far better and even more comfortable in my opinion.
Hay, thanks for that STRIGHT FORWARD, honesty. I was undecided.kinda makes me think what to buy.....thanks once again. A new follower. You do more on these items, please......thanks.
I'm lucky that I took an Oura ring right from the beginning when it wasn't very good. As such, I managed to be one of the niche users that get a lifetime free membership, therefore no fees to be paid.
Thank you. I’m holding off (to see what the future brings ). Monthly fees DO add up. Appreciate your clear advice and summary of these two. I have the watch now.
Not knowing anything about smart rings before, this video was a really good introduction. I didn't even know Whoop charged a $30 pm membership. That's mad. I'm perfectly happy with Apple Watch tracking my workouts etc, the only thing I'm missing is sleep tracking. I just can't bear to wear the watch during sleep hence looking into smart rings.
That was excellent! I've been wondering if I should wait for Samsung or just get the Aura. Your explanation was quick moving You didn't drag it out, and you gave all the necessary information. It was very helpful, thank you!
wow that's... way too fucking expensive for a smart ring, getting biometrics isn't that difficult. i thought maybe a ring would be a cheap and efficient alternative to a watch, but i guess not.
Amazed I only found this video now: my wife recently upgraded her Fitbit to a newer model, and I inherited her old one (which, happily, came with a one-year Premium membership when I re-registered it in my name). Like you, I double-wrist it with one of my watches daily, and that's gotten old PDQ. The Oura didn't quite appeal, and the Ultrahuman is close-but-no-cigar. *But* , my hopes are currently hanging on Samsung's Ring, partly on account of having a Samsung phone, and also because of the possibility of NFC capability being part of the package. (Imagine: using OMNY on the subway of bus in Gotham gets that much easier than whipping a phone out.) Time will tell. Thanks for this!
Apple and Garmin can kill the aura of oura. Looking forward to that day. Thanks for the great review! The six dollar fee a month was a dealbreaker because I see it as an ongoing rip off.
I was going to buy the RingConn, but I am a little uncomfortable buying a ring from a company who still needs to do kickstarter on its second gen ring? That tells you they don’t have any or enough investors and not enough customers. Also, as of a couple days ago it would take until about the end of November to get it, apparently they do not have enough stock of the sizers and rings.
Tidbit about the Oura ring, it only takes your temperature while you are sleeping not throughout the day, so a shower would not effect the reading. Also It gives you an above or below reading of the temperature, not the actual degree. I am unsure about the ultrahuman. I got the oura ring for fertility tracking and specifically the temperature reading.
First day wearing my Ultrahuman Air Ring. Excited about this. Wearable junkie here, Apple 8 on left wrist. Ultrahuman left pointer finger with a older Fitbit Charge 4 above my right ankle for steps and miles. Over 10k most days.
Nice that one ring is chosen over the other, but what im missing is the accuracy of the measurements with science (compared to specially made medical devices) to see how they really perform.
I’m curious, did you do any testing on index finger vs ring or middle finger? (This ring or the oura or any other rings?) I was wondering if you did, if you discovered any variability. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I understand the frustration with the monthly fee, but I decided to go with Oura because they are the leading company in this market, they offer a good product, have a robust large team of researchers, who seek to innovative using science based studies, and it’s is well liked by its users. No disrespect to others, but one’s health is certainly worth $5 dollars a month. How many of those who are complaining about the monthly fee, have more than one streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu etc, or buy a coffee everyday or every other day etc.? Again I was hesitant as well because of the fee, but they are a well established company, and I am willing to cut back on a non-essential item/habit in my daily life that charges a fee in order to try to improve my overall health.
There’s probably some truth in that, but like mentioned, in the beginning of the video, smart rings are targeted towards people like me who don’t wear a smart watch all the time 🤷🏻♂️

Dude thanks for the video it's a good look at both rings and what they do and what they don't do I just started using the aura ring and I like it but like you said the Ultraman ring is it better deal
Why would we want a subscription model when all the data is held on the device and processed there? Honestly companies need to relax on charging if they can and do more should they charge
I am looking at buying one of these things currently and the symptom/lab thing Oura is doing is very intriguing, although only for iOS users currently for some reason. Any thoughts on this area of the offering/functionality?
Hello, thank you for the thorough presentation. I am a complete novice when it comes to smartwatches or rings. However, I am interested to know if you are familiar with or have tested the AMAZFIT HELIO RING, and what would you choose between the ULTRAHUMAN RING and it? Are both usable and adjustable to EU sizes?
I paid for both with my own $ and got a deal with Ultrahuman to do affiliate link afterwards, but I get it and no worries if you choose neither. I may still opt for another smart ring if Apple or Samsung comes out with one!
I hate the idea of paying for my own data. I started with Oura before they started with the subscription. When my ring died I chose not to continue w/Oura. Thanks for your review. I now feel more confident of replacing my Oura with Ultrahuman.
Only reason I keep my Oura is I was an original backer and get lifetime subscription for free. If they can top samsung's new ring, then I'll likely get a new oura. If not, then it's goodbye until they make a better ring. By the way, I still have the gen 2 ring and it's battery only lasts 2-3 days. Can't really justify spending another 300+ dollars on the new one when it only has a better battery and nothing else.
What is the sampling rate for heart beat, blood oxygen, HRV, temperature etc. for the Ultrahuman ring ?? If the sampling rate is 1 time every 15 minutes, it is nearly useless. I believe that a sample rate of 1 time every 30 seconds is the minimum for accurate data.
I stumbled upon your video because I want to wear a wearable that is not a watch / wrist band. I like my classic analog watch and I am not going to wear another watch on my other wrist 😂 Thanks for the helpful information. A ring is indeed another good choice. Uktahuman looks good, but maybe waiting for Samsung or Apple to enter the market is a good idea.
@@ashtonwhitcomb3217 that’s a fair point, but if Apple were to do it, I think it would be something like iPad versus MacBook. They would market it as a recovery ring as a separate wearable product offering.
Does the ultra human app require Wi-Fi or cell service? Like will it work in the middle of a large isolated forest with no service with nothing but a Bluetooth connection between the ring and your phone?
For sleep and the basic tracking it shouldn’t require wifi, I’ve worn it on plane rides and tracked my sleep fine. There might be additional features that use WiFi but from my knowledge the basic ones (sleep, steps) don’t
Oura was great until it stops keeping the charge right after the expiry of the warranty (one week after the warranty expiry). The customer service didn’t propose a replacement, but just a pretty low discount for a new ring… Honestly I would not recommend it.
I, too, encountered this issue and there is no way I'm going to spend so much money on the same model as a replacement. I got a free lifetime sub to oura, so might wait for the new model, but I'm considering alternatives.
I would like to know if anyone changed his behavior to optimize and felt better. I assume tracking does not change anything but creates big data. Still my inner nerd wants one😅
Oura’s sleep tracking is great, but after I used it for a month straight my results were steady with the occasional late night outs so I got the hang of how to have better sleeping habits
I also replaced my Oura with the Ultrahuman - sadly I am not happy at all. So as my girlfriend has a Ringconn and this device is really great, I am changing to ringconn......
@@MinuteMon First is the battery - I have to charge my Ultrahuman every 5 days, my girlfriend's ringconn charges after 7-8 days (and it is much smaller.....). Ringconn has a great portable case/charger which you can have with you on travels without needing a charger and lastly, I weared all three (ringconn on the small finger) and 3 nights in a row the ringconn and oura where almost on par where ultrahuman measured sleep when I was still awake or awake time in the night where the others had light sleep. To be clear, I am explaining to you detailed because you asked. This is a personal choice and I had the opportunity to test all 3 simultaneously which lead me to the ringconn (if it would not be for the subscription, I would choose the Oura).
I bought the BKWAT smart ring, which surprised me. It has extraordinary performance and exquisite appearance at half the price. I wore it at night to test my sleep and it was great.
My Oura ring is essentially dead. Won’t hold a charge and the company won’t or can’t do anything. So that’s a $300 plus mistake for something that is now sitting collecting dust. Never again
I had a similar problem with my gen 3. I contacted them, they checked the upload info from the ring and sent me a new one. I started with gen 2 so I have the app free for life. That to say I'm a happy customer and am now considering upgrading to gen 4 which will still retain the free app.
So you pay up to $549 for that ring, but without the subscription, which might increase in price. the ring is pretty much useless? Why would anyone do that? The can charge $9.99 next year and $12.99 the year after that and there is nothing you can do about it. How does the app know that you have paid? Do you need an account? That would be a privacy nightmare.
They say 'titanium ring', I hear 'degloving' It's even worse. Any trauma that leads to inflammation, and good luck removing the ring from your finger. What a wonderful idea to do sport while wearing one
These seems like a lot of wasted money and switching between devices just to be able to wear your mechanical watch. I've got my Apple watch, that gives me everything these smart rings give and does so with no additional cost.
Lol so I should get a ring for my heart rate and body temp, but also get an Apple Watch because you shouldn't use a ring for various exercises, and your body temp increases In a shower so take it off then, .... what's the point in it
Smart Ring for recovery and you already should take off your regular rings (wedding band) during exercise or showering anyways. I don’t understand your question if you haven’t worn a ring before?
@@MinuteMon no I mean why would you buy an exercise ring alongside a fitness watch, when you have to remove the ring to exercise, just use a watch or whoop strap....
thinking your sleep score matters is absolutely insane. you cant just lay down go to sleep and then wake up and go to work? its not that difficult. nobody needs a smart ring monitoring their sleep at all. algorithms cant be experts on individual people and its fuckin insane to think it could
The fact that there’s an entire industry for wearable smart tech pretty much proves that people want to know this information. It’s also HSA / FSA eligible - it can be prescribed to someone who has insomnia track and improve sleep. You gotta think bigger than you
@nomercyinc6783 I love that for you! But that's simply not the case with everyone, and the ring can track more than just sleep. Personally, I have an autoimmune disorder that can cause temp spikes, heart rate increases, shortness of breath, and also difficulty sleeping due to pain. Having a physical representation of that data, proves very helpful in treatment for many people. Sleeping with a smart watch isn't comfortable for me, nor does it capture as much information as the rings do. So while YOU might be able to lay down and sleep in a second, that's not the case for everyone and there is a market for this... it's important to consider other perspectives to your own. Ultrahuman also has glucose monitoring now, which is a huge benefit to a new demographic of users too! Not to mention fertility tracking and other optional add on modules.

I’ve considered Ringconn & Circular but I’m ok with my Ultrahuman. What makes Ringconn more attractive to you
@@MinuteMon First is the battery - I have to charge my Ultrahuman every 5 days, my girlfriend's ringconn charges after 7-8 days (and it is much smaller.....).
RingConn gen2!
I have free Oura ring membership, so not paying anything extra
I wish I got mine earlier when Oura didn’t charge membership, then I wouldn’t have even thought of making this video 😂
I bought the BKWAT smart ring, which surprised me. It has extraordinary performance and exquisite appearance at half the price. I wore it at night to test my sleep and it was great.
Subscription sucks.. that keeps me from going for Oura.. well for some people, having a sub, is part of the ‘ status symbol’ .. but not for me..
This sounds so not worth it. What happened to self control?
Looks like a car part
My Oura ring is essentially dead. Won’t hold a charge and the company won’t or can’t do anything. So that’s a $300 plus mistake for something that is now sitting collecting dust. Never again
How long have you had it?
Oura’s app knows you paid because you connect an account to the app
@@MinuteMon That's what I thought. A sleep and health tracking app should not know my name and personal details.

How did the two different rings you had, have such a huge size difference? 8 to a 9?
They say 'titanium ring', I hear 'degloving'
It's even worse. Any trauma that leads to inflammation, and good luck removing the ring from your finger. What a wonderful idea to do sport while wearing one
Still waiting for the samsung ring... LEAKS CMON
Whens the release date?
can you wear the ring as a necklace?
As a accessory yes, but the features would not work since it needs your pulse
These seems like a lot of wasted money and switching between devices just to be able to wear your mechanical watch. I've got my Apple watch, that gives me everything these smart rings give and does so with no additional cost.
No worries samsung ring is coming in a week.
Lol so I should get a ring for my heart rate and body temp, but also get an Apple Watch because you shouldn't use a ring for various exercises, and your body temp increases In a shower so take it off then,
.... what's the point in it
Smart Ring for recovery and you already should take off your regular rings (wedding band) during exercise or showering anyways.
