      Basically, what you pay for with WHOOP is the subscription for the accurate technology itself, the band is just a freebie. Also, like Oliur said in the video, WHOOP is more focused in fitness, so if you are not into fitness (moderate-hardcore), it may not just be for you. I would instead also recommend the ring or apple watch to you if you are not a fitness-first person.

    whoop is insanely detailed. It's almost overwhelming how much it tracks and how much info you get from it. Was super useful to me as a college athlete, but since then it just feels way over the top.

  • @chriscarpunky

    What is cool about the whoop over any device is it is all based on strain. As an example, if I sat at my desk all day my whoop would say my strain is low and to get out there and walk, run or whatever I wanted to do. If I dont even start an activity but work hard in the warehouse all day my heart rate goes up and gives me credit for strain. It takes that automatically as basically a workout. Unless you start your Garmin as a work out while let’s say working a job all it will do is drain your body battery and not give you any load. The other day just for the heck of it I decided to put my watch on cardio on my Garmin and do my normal work activities while working and in 2 hours gave me load of 100. If I wouldn’t have started the workout it would have done nothing but drain my body battery and gave me steps for the day. My whoop counted it all automatically.

    This whole "buy a physical product and than pay extra for a subscription model" is an entire scam. So I am basically investing in a company, and I am at their mercy when it comes to pricing. Just a note about you having trouble sleeping 9 hours, that's not a bad thing!! Average adults require between 7:30 and 8 hours of sleep to reach optimal form when everything else (exercise and nutrition) is, again, average. The fact you managed to reach 7 hours so consistently with the life and schedule you have is already very impressive imo

    I have worn an Apple Watch since launch. I have worn a Whoop since 2017. I also use a Polar H10 chest strap and tried an Oura Ring. I view the Polar H10 to be the most accurate and have calibrated it at a sports medicine center. The closest device for activity tracking is the Apple Watch without question. It is virtually equivalent to my Polar H10. I find the Apple Watch far more confortable. However, the Apple Watch does not have well developed recovery tracking because it does not measure HRV automatically. The Whoop is great for sleep and recovery but absolutely terrible for activity tracking. It has the lowest correlation to the Polar H10. The Ring is great for tracking sleep and recovery. It actually was better at tracking activity than the Whoop. Ideally, I would have Apple but Whoop so that the algorithms/software that make Whoop great, could leverage the Apple Watch’s data tracking. This video was helpful but makes me think I should cancel my Whoop and stick with the Apple Watch…

    15:33 On calories. Be sure to check your weight is accurate and your using a proper heart rate monitor. I use a polar hear rate monitor paired to the watch directly and the calorie counting is far better for workouts especially runs and HIT. This is likely because the watch samples heart rates at a lower rate. It can be as bad as every 5 seconds whereas polar can get multiple readings per second.

    Great video! I have personally started with the OURA ring which I've used for about 18 months. It started bothering me at night as I often have my hand under the pillow and it started to create too much pressure and I woke up frequently.
    My second purchase was the Whoop band... super comfortable also at night but significantly different in sleep tracking results compared to the OURA ring. Sleep tracking was my main objective so I find it confusing that the results can be that much different. With the OURA ring it is pretty much impossible to get a rating above 95 vs. the Whoop band gives you 100% quite easily, which is also the reason why so many influencers brag about their great sleeping results with that band :)
    I certainly did not like the monthly fee with OURA and after I have learned what I could learn with it I stopped my subscription and sold the ring.
    The Whoop band is even more expensive monthly which is why I think about getting the Apple watch as well, so this video is very helpful!!

    If you don't like the whoop morning questions, you can turn them off in settings. They can be annoying so its only worth using them if you really want to statistical insights from the things they ask in the morning questions. You can customise it to only be one or two questions that you actually want to know the impact of. Without the morning questions, you can still get statistical insights on the things the app is able to detect.

I bought a smart watch for £25 upfront, and it gave me access to an entire screen, step count, time, notifications, weather, music control, and more without me having to pull up my phone. Plus the fact that the WHOOP is £27 A MONTH, which is as much as I paid upfront for my smartwatch. Yes the WHOOP has a few extra statistics, but the fact that it doesn't even track steps for a "fitness band" is just outrageous.

    I really like Whoop band but the problem is that you have to pay for subscription every month, so I'm considering to get Ultrahuman ring air but problem with these rings is that you cant wear it while weight training also Ive heard that the software isn' great either & I think with WatchOS 11 Apple watch would be able to track sleep more accurately without putting it to sleep mode every time. So I might wait for Samsung or Apple to launch their ring.

    • @SomeoneBeginingWithI
      @SomeoneBeginingWithI Месяц назад

      I normally don't like subscription models either, but with whoop, you are paying for a service. You're paying them to securely store detailed heartrate data, potentially for years, to keep it backed up and never sell it. The server cost alone would add up to a lot, especially for people who liked the product and wanted to keep using it for years. If it was a one-time payment, they would have an incentive to want long-term members to delete their accounts, or to buy a new sensor. They would need to push their members to buy "upgraded" sensors every few years just so the company could stay in business.
      Whoop is £200 a year if you pay every two years, or if you get a one year membership in December. Nobody should pay monthly, the monthly option is terrible value and I honestly think it shouldn't be there, or should be lower, because putting it on the website just makes the company look bad.
      Realistically, if you're buying tech at the moment, you're not going to keep it for life. The company will keep coming out with upgrades, and they're not building things to last a lifetime because they need repeated sales. If you're a regular iphone user, how much do you typically spend on a new phone, and how often do you need to replace your phone? Buying a phone isn't a one-time fee for life, and buying a fitness tracker wouldn't be either.
      With whoop, you're not paying for the sensor. Getting the current sensor is included in the subscription. They have ongoing research and development, and when a new sensor is ready it gets sent to all members for free. There's no extra cost to upgrade the hardware.
      I do think that they charge too much of a markup on the extra bands and clothing, but that's my only cost complaint, and buying those is optional. You can get off-brand bands much cheaper on etsy.

Also whoop track a lot effortlessly but when its about to work out at the gym you need to put he exercises and reps manually, apple watch (with external app) can detect that by itself, also kinda like to have an option to skip my music, change volume on the go and see heart rate within seconds or always with AOD, dont want to use my phone to see the stats. So for this reason stayed with apple watch also the answering phone calls and pinging a phone is a must. However the sleep stats and recovery score, smart alarm with whoop is the top of the league however its not worth paying 20£ a month to see the sleep stats (at least for me, there are freak people who will pay and are paying for this)

    I have had the Apple Watch, it's ok but doesn't track naps. I use for my sleep an old Huawei and for that it's very consistent. Just bought the ultra ring, to not have to change watch when I sleep and it absolutely reeeeeeks, it's god awful, it doesn't register naps, and it's always losing time of sleep at night. I'm giving the whoop band a chance I think.

    You should definetly try some Garmin device. Body battery there is amazing. I track every day for over 2 years and there was none with inconsistency measuring. And if you look there at sleep score, rest HR and body battery as a complex number, there is amazing tracking - sometimes you can have long sleep and so good score, but at the same time you can feel not so good - and i will it as low body battery (in case of alcohol in the evening or hard training, whatever).

    I'm not that pedantic.

    People talking about subscriptions as is software is free. How would they afford to have updates and pay for servers in the cloud without subscriptions?

    • @SomeoneBeginingWithI
      @SomeoneBeginingWithI Месяц назад

      yes exactly. You're paying for a service. You're paying them to securely store detailed heartrate data on their servers for as long as you keep the account active, to keep it backed up, and never sell it. Servers cost money. If you weren't paying a subscription they would be incentivised to either sell your health data or push "upgraded hardware" which isn't actually significantly better, but they would have to pretend it's significantly better and sell it at a huge markup to cover the server costs.
      The subscription is a predictable amount. It's £200 a year. (nobody should ever do the monthly option, that's terrible value, don't measure them by that). How often do apple users replace their phones, and how much does it cost them? More than £200 a year probably, but they don't consider it a subscription because they're getting a physical item. If you buy a piece of tech at the moment, you probably won't be keeping it forever. The company wants to keep making money and they will push you to buy another one. If Whoop make an improved sensor, they will send it to you for free, so they will only do that when they've actually got one significantly better than the previous one. You're not wastefully replacing your tech every couple of years because the company made the battery tank to force you to "upgrade".
      I do think that the extra bands are sold at too much of a markup, but that is my only cost complaint.

    I feel it would be better to do a video were you use them for a month but never look at the data and just record a video each day on how you feel. Similar to what Better Ideas did with his sleep tracking video.
    As one big issue with the whole “recovery” stuff is that when you wake up and see it saying “you got bad recovery” you will then start to feel worse and start justifying doing things that would correlate with being “low recovery”
    Just an idea as it would allow for less mental interference from day to day, that way you can learn if it’s actually lining up.
