I love this little girl, who is not so little anymore. She is 13, I believe. Still the most talent in a drummer that I’ve seen in a long, long time. I’m about to be 74 and drumming for about 60 of those years. Yoyoka is a treasure and I hope we all realize that and let her grow on her own terms. Love, appreciate, and let her have a full life of musical wonders and delights.
There are two Burn videos by Yoyoka. The first one is with the recording and the second one, part of her extensive twelfth birthday sessions with some of the best rock musicians in Japan (and they are GOOD), was her playing with a band. I’d probably suggest the birthday sessions version. And you might check out her playing (with the same musicians) Van Halen’s Jump.
todderickson2435: Watch the video that features Robert Plant watching Yoyoka. She is a force of nature, and we all have fallen in love with her cherubic smile. I hope your jaw recovered quickly, because when you watch another one of her drum covers, (I suggest "What Is Hip", by Tower Of Power), it will hit the floor again. Guaranteed.
A lot of Yoyoka fans have commented on this lol. She was born to parents who enjoy playing in bands. Her parents' band members would come to their house and she would crawl between the places they were playing. When she was a year and a half old, her father noticed her staring at the drum set and thought she might like to play the drums, so he put her in the drum chair, which is when she started playing the drums. She was able to play the drums by the time she could remember (!!) , so I guess she learned how to play the drums in the same way she learned how to speak. She said that the songs she uploads on RUclips are the ones she likes from the Internet or CDs at home, and that her parents were not really interested in Led Zeppelin, so she had to find and choose them herself. She plays the drums by ear (not by sheet music). She also plays drums in a family band, and I assume that she learned the skills necessary to play the songs with the expectation of playing drums in a band. So she said that she plays the drums for songs with vocals, paying attention to the singing voice. I think that's what makes her drumming different from other kids' drumming that you can see on RUclips videos.
That is a pro studio musician who happens to be 11 and you should see and hear her now. She started at 2, was in her band on stage at 4, and has played with a few pop stars on stage in front of crowds of 10-20 thousand. She is contracted with Pearl, and Zildjian, Pearl has sent her to NAMM in LA before to represent. She is the real deal.
She has played in front of 20 thousand once with Fall out boy, 30 thousand twice in Tokyo fashion show and 40 thousand once performing her own "Sparkling"... and has now changed to Ludwig drums.
Her talent is remarkable and astounding. But as a musician, myself, it is the joy that she gets from playing that moves me to tears! Yoyoka, you rock girl!
Yoyoka is self taught from age 2. Let that sink in 😁 Please do more of her videos, I love her so much! Put You Thru Burn YYZ Murder by Numbers Over the Mountain (Ozzy) Steam There's too much - There are no losers ! Thanks, loved your reaction! ❣️
What impress most is her independence of her hands and feets. Sometimes she do a fill with one hand and next time it's the other. It's like her brain says you gonna do this and that limb who's free do it. I love that!
I don't know jack about drumming, but ever since watching Yoyoka I have come to appreciate drummers and just what is involved in drumming. I bet I watch 2-3 of her vids a week and never get tired of watching her. Anything from her 12th Birthday Jam is incredible. Now at 12+ she amazing. Lots of credit to her parents, they have raised a great person and a talented musician. Respect.
You ain't seen nothing yet ! She is a pro, and a true personality ! If you start going down this rabbit hole you will not be disappointed. Well worth checking more. Cheers from Paris
Young man hold on to your horses! This young lady is BAD to the bone. She has this cover down perfect.... She has having SO much FUN!!!! I favorite part is at the end.... She can not keep it in any longer --- her JOY comes exploding out of her special self.. I love it....
When I first saw her cover I watched it 4 times over trying to see where the " catch" was. I finally had to realize she was for real. Then to watch her sky rocket at 9yrs old, I'm left Dazed but not confused anymore!
I had to pause when you did!! I was laughing so hard!! You have to go down the Yoyoka rabbit hole! She does a Beatles cover where she plays keyboard, bass, guitar, drums of course. Then she also sings lead and backup vocals. Then mixes it all together with the video showing her playing all. Girl is phenomenon
We all know Drummer Face but what I really love is Drummer-Hearing-Yoyoka-for-the-first-time Face :D Thanks for sharing the joy! Alt title: "Pro Drummer Reacts to Pro Drummer" ;)
She has so many great covers. One that no one has reacted to is Yoyoka's cover of Smoky by Char. Oh, btw she was seven when she did this one. Thanks for your reaction.
Loves Yoyoka, she spreads so much joy and inspiration. Hilarious to see her damp the cymbal by getting off the chair to reach it. Be sure to catch her playing Onyx in a club at 7 years old: ruclips.net/video/MkhGgqXywU8/видео.html
Great video. I really enjoyed your reaction, and it reminds me of how I reacted the first time I watched Yoyoka play. She's exceptional. I hope you react to some more of her videos. Burn by Deep Purple is ridiculous!
Thanks for discovering Yoyoka, and she's now 11 and a lot (understatement) better. I';d recommend Rosanna or YYZ if you want a more difficult cover. Rosanna - ruclips.net/video/6P-tTLmuKo0/видео.html YYZ - ruclips.net/video/lGETWi1QufE/видео.html
So glad you mentioned Rosanna, cause no one does. That beat is so tricky--she concentrates in that one. When she lowers her head and plays the soft part of that song-- love it :)
Wow.... she's off 4 times or so in the entire song. Absolute prodigy. Even her friggin cymbal catch is perfect. I don't know that she's up to today, but man, I hope she's still at it, there's definitely greatness there.
Her ability to remember everything that she hears in detail - and reproduce it is not of this world. A lot of musicians can fake it through many covers doing it almost as the original - but she nails it and sometimes add a little extra that she feels is in place

I still can't believe that this kid doesn't have at least two million subscribers. There are people opening packages on RUclips with far larger followings. Their loss!
What's really killer is you can kinda think maybe you're listening to the original track and maybe she's not that great... and then the song ends and she starts IMPROVISING on Bonzo's style!! It's flabbergasting, really. And she's gone on to be a really kickass drummer. (I especially love how she has to stand up to still the hi hat.)
At the base of it all is that she is having fun doing it. I mean you can pick it apart as much as you like but, again, at the base of it all is that she's having fun doing it and when you are having fun doing something, nothing can stop you.
When the TRUE "Little Kid Laugh" came out at the end you KNEW RIGHT THEN AND THERE WITHOUT A DOUBT that her parents WERE NOT TIGER MOM PARENTS AND were not pushing her to do this, that this was her true love, passion, and sheer joy and FUN to do that ALL DAY LONG IF SHE COULD.
That song is NOT easy to play on the drums (esp. the one foot triplet or whatever it was) without a looot of practice and experience and she mastered it when she was 8 years old. Today she's 11-12 and on a whole different level. When she does these covers she listens to the songs 2-3 times (a couple of times more if it's a more complicated song) and learn it by ear (she can't read music). She's definitely a prodigy and she looks like she's having a lot of fun while playing.
I’m so glad you did this! It makes my heart so full watching this. But also when your face lights up when she’s done something rad that only drummers would know.. hahaha both so good to watch!! 💜
