    The fact that instead of just using footage from the game, you go out of your way to actually re-create the scenes and give it a cinematic angle is a level of detail that I really appreciate and that always keeps me coming back to this channel

    I do often wonder how Rapture would’ve turned out had they had access to Vigor and Salts instead of the Plasmids. While they still did cause hallucinations and some cosmetic changes to one’s arm, it was a drastic difference from the insanity and disfiguring alterations of Plasmids.

    • @mx338
      @mx338 2 года назад +125

      At least in writing I don’t think things would have turned out differently, the series criticises the idea of free market capitalism as inherently flawed, it would have just been another drug or something else that would have brought down the order of the Rapture.

      In Burial At Sea 2 its explained that Plasmids, Big daddies, Vigors and Songbirds were made by Fink and Suchong. They comunicated via the portals. 1 single Vigor costed 10 times more Adam to make compared to a Plasmid. Thats why very few people use Vigors in Columbia but everyone used Plasmids in Rapture. Plasmids in Rapture were "more affordable". Also, most people in Columbia didnt really like Vigors, probably due to their religious mindset. The obvious flaw with the Lore is that when you visit Fink's Building, you see a ton of Vigors being made, wich is counter intuitive when you look up the reason why Lil sisters and daddies were made in the first place. They were made because there wasnt enough adam and they needed to harvest it from the dead bodies. Unless Fink got his own Adam from other universes and not from Ryan/Suchong/Rapture.

    I think people underestimate the importance of reality transition in "BioShock: Infinite" and the saga as a whole. Why ? You see, throught out the game, Elizabeth explains she's not sure she's bringing them to already existing realities, but rather creating universes that attend to her needs and wishes. Something that might back up her theory is Comstock's voxophone, in which he questions himself what happens to the sinner he left behind after the baptism, since water's purpose isn't to destroy, but to wash away. If we take this voxophone in a literal sense, that means that when Comstock was baptized, a paralel world was created in order to house Booker DeWitt in it (this might also explain why his death erased only Comstocks, because while Booker was washed away to new realities, Comstock was drowned). If this is true, that means Elizabeth is the embodiment of everything "BioShock" represents. How when you're unhappy with the world, you create a new place that fits your vision. The importance of a father figure in a child's life. And the child's growth throught exposure to the world's corruption. I think "BioShock: Infinite" is far deeper than most people realize. But to try and truly grasp that depth, like Elizabeth, you must decipher the codes and lockpick the forbidden areas to gain true understanding of how the game truly works. I have faith and love for this game, even if I agree Rapture is better, and you can't turn my love into hatred.
    There's always an idea. There's always a flawed world. There's always a womb of water. There's always an individual who wants to find his time to create, and his time to destroy. And everything starts with a lightouse (or a sea of them).

      Hey, if you don't mind, I've got one question for you. Who do you think that it was who visited Comstock ? And what do you think it was her agenda ?Remember, Comstock is still Booker, simply amplified to his worst. And considering Booker's comments regarding Rapture and Columbia, it's pretty obvious Comstock could never have thought of creating Columbia alone. Someone had to give him the idea. And if we take into consideration that Rapture and Columbia are twin realities and the theories saying that Eleanor is Elizabeth reincarnated (in another time, and another place), that means whoever visited Comstock, had an agenda for Anna, and the cities were her baptism to prepare her for said agenda.

    • @eye.sexual
      @eye.sexual 2 года назад +14

      Infinite was the only game I ever played in the series, and it holds a soft spot in my heart because I sympathized with Elizabeth. It's hard to please an abusive parent, and its ever harder to escape their brainwashing. What you said about father figures was spot on. Old Elizabeth is a direct parallel to that potential of righteous evil in Booker, physically realized in Comstock.

    • @eye.sexual
      @eye.sexual 2 года назад

      @@JabamiLain I interpreted that as more religious propaganda. Religion is often a front for people to abuse power. The Christian Bible of today has a large amount text full of bloody and gruesome acts of conflict. Often commanded by the big G himself. So it wouldn't be hard to create a bloody society that pretends to be heaven, but really it's just hell in the sky.

      Constants and variables just changing in each distinct "dimension"
      Bio 1 is my favorite game of all time but when it comes to the story and its mind blowing layers of detail....infinite has a better story than bio 1. It just takes work and time to fully understand this admittedly quite convoluted, but ingenius story and all the layers to it.
      I regard Ken Levine as one of the greatest story tellers of the 21th century.....in my opinion with these games he proved that he is able to hold his own amongst legends like Orwell, Huxley, and Philip K Dick

      Well, we know Booker has the vision of the part where Old Elizabeth destroys New York way before he actually gets there, so maybe from the endless Lighthouse Sea, those memories bleed across each other. So if Comstock saw Old Elizabeth in a Dream bled from the "future", then he would work to achieve the "dream" he saw.

Back in the day Spanish Explorers discovered the caves and found an abandoned underground city. Half in the rock and half out. Not as it had been buried but been suddenly stuck there. More recent notes and mechanism imply work by Americans back around the civil war and later in the 1920’s. Each time some disastrous event lead to the “facility” being abandoned suddenly. A noisy technology that causes objects and people to pass through solid matter as if in a slightly off set dimension. Often visible but moving through stone and other solid objects as if ghosts. There would be a touch of lovecratian unseen horror as you have moving plants that thrive on an unseen light and pests that phase through rocks. There would be many similarities to a limited resource mechanism as found in underwater living such as limited supplies of air and food.

    Absolutely fantastic video. It feels like the puzzle is now complete, everything put together and all pieces in the place where they're supposed to be. It all makes sense to me now, where there were initially some questions left after my first playthroughs of the games.
    One thing I've noticed as well is that while watching this brilliant summary, you could have never guessed that all of these games were first person shooter video games at their core. That's how rich and strong the story is that it can completely stand on its own despite being a video game that also needs to have fun gameplay mechanics. Really fascinating stuff.

    I found this video because I'm replaying the whole series again except starting with Infinite. This is an amazing video! I've never seen another game or game series with a story as detailed as the Bioshock series. The writers pretty much wrote a sci-fi epic and they made it into a game to be played out. I will never forget that first reveal of "Would you kindly"

    OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO IVE FOUND TO EXPLAIN THE CONFUSING TIMELINE! With every other video I've watched, there's always been a messy transition between explaining the games and they all put infinite last, but because you explained it so clearly and also put infinite first as it would be in the timeline, I can now happily say I understand the plot more clearly and can actually explain cool story points to my boyfriend who I'm trying to convince to play the games.

    I played these games as a kid when they released (which was an interesting choice on my dads part for letting a 12 y/o at the time play this series lol). I remembered very little of the nuances of the plot; however it sparked my love of detail oriented stories. I remember being fascinated above all else with the world building both in terms of landscape and plot, even if every story detail didn’t fully sync up in my brain.
    This video gave a recap that was not only thorough, but was clearly created by someone who loves the source material and world built within this universe. The original cinematics you created were an amazing touch as well!
    Thank you sincerely for bringing this to life! ❤

    I get the story of Columbia, but it is just so full of sloppiness and contradictions. Taking old booker back to the moment where young booker was drowned wouldn't do anything, they would need to go back to young booker, and if there are infinite realities, there are innumerable realities where he becomes Comstock later, or where someone else does. It's a story that suffocates under the weight of its own contrivances.

    • @Asto508

      Every time travel story has this flaw. It always ends up in a mess. But It's like playing god of war and complaining that gods are not real.
      It's just something that needs to be taken at face value for the type of story.

    • @thekaiser3815

      Suspension of disbelief... Look at the first Bioshock and the mind-boggling logistics of building a city full of skyscrapers at the bottom of the sea, in the 1950s no less AND while keeping all of it top-secret lol. Or think about how the Plasmids are actually supposed to work, letting you throw fire balls and do telekinesis through turning cells into stemcells and then altering them?? Ummm what? It all falls apart if you think about it too much, and this happens with many works of fiction, if not most. What matters most IMO is the emotional impact of any story and the Bioshock games, including Infinite, definitely succeeded there for me.

    Ok...but what about the lovecraftian slugs that are like the tiniest part in the story but are almost the main reason all of this was done and was it's end. Where did these crawlers of the sea with powers beyond come from, that's the one question I asked about the first game and it's still never talked about how random slugs were found on this exact area with powers beyond.
