The cloud...... It's just other peoples servers.
8th Grade English:
The Cloud = a hard drive connected to the internet.
This video was provided to you from the cloud
When you see how things really work, it is quite amazing.
It encourages me to appreciate computer technology more.
This explains the Cloud even better than the professor in my grad school course! Well done!
This is a bad example of explaining cloud computing. Websites and things like that being in data centers is no way, shape, or form new. The concept behind how they function is what separates the “cloud” from typical computing practices.
@@JoshHookerJoshhook123 totally right, this video feels like something I will show to my grandparents
@@cristianmarint Appropriate, since they are probably the target audience
The cloud is just somebody else's computer.
Living here in the LC, I am astounded at the # of new Data Centers that have been built just in the past 2 years. They aren't great employers once the construction is finished either. Just a few IT people to keep the places running, and some security guards to keep the wrong sorts of people out.
winner take all capitalism in the physical form
ON the contrary. Its a perfect op to land a job as an It guy since their is so many of them.
Thanks for making a very good section on cloud.
But let's make it very clear that 70% figure was an exaggeration.:-)
The presentation is for the elderly
Thank you.
This now makes sense to me. A few months ago I was on a project doing some work at the Stonewall Power Plant in that area and actually in that very same county. As I drove around, I got the idea that seemed like s very affluent area, very new rapidly building area and some whopping large long buildings very non-descript with no names. I kept wondering what the heck all those buildings were as I didn’t know much about the area. This now all makes sense just what the heck these buildings were and the affluence of that very county.
Some of them are actually run by Intelligence agencies and OGA (special name for Other Government Agency, highly classified)
Most of the affluence is related to Loudoun’s proximity to DC and government, but Tech industry does play a roll.
News tech stories trip me out lol. They make it seem so foreign.
Showing this to a class tomorrow. Nice video!
Data storage has gotten so cheap for how much space you can get that you don't really need a cloud service. But the big tech companies don't want the average person to know that .
LOL ... remember when most of the internet went down when one line was cut in a rail tunnel?
mediis lmao
No.
I am born in mid 50’s but never heard of it. Do you have any link?
What a great feature story!
The man in the pink shirt has given me the strength to wear a tie and leave the top button undone
the cloud is what saves people's lives. Banks, web apps on phones & Even government operations run on the cloud.
It would take ages to process information otherwise.
Yet before computers all the information was processed hmm
My floppy disk 💾 will do just fine
Intresting..
Great video
Dead eyeball wont work to get into an AWS server site? I’m going to need some proof.
"Cloud"
We don't go on the internet. *We LIVE the internet!*
DC love it ❤
How much storage is there in this data center ? 1000 ? 2000 ?
Petabytes.
A documentary of at least 30 minutes about data centers, the "Cloud" would be nice. Much of the RUclips audience will not get a chance to see the work in a data center. Now I clearly understand what is the Cloud.
Loudoun county aka CASHBURN,VA.
do i have to bring an umbrella to visit the datacenter?
They made it look like its anything else other than hardware sitting in a datacenter.
So, question: does CBS News have its own data center or is it using another company for data center services?
The cloud is someone else's computer...
Simply Linux servers.
Don’t underestimate the widespread use of Microsoft OS’s
@@RoganPlant What idiot would run a bloated os like windows in a data center
6:44 Jin Yang from Silicon valley
he doesn't look like him at all. He's not even from the same country.
if you think that "those orientals all look the same", then sure
lol this was posted in 2017?? old folks just figuring out what online storage is
it's not necessarily storage... maybe you're the old folk
' Nothing ever happens besides a lot of cat videos ' This must be a joke
Cloud: Bezo's computer
The cloud just an updated version of a mainframe and dumb terminals.
AWS changed life. The worst thing about networking is when it's down and you not sure where the issue is even located.
Engaging with this content has been enlightening. A book with parallel content had a profound effect on my life. "AWS Unleashed: Mastering Amazon Web Services for Software Engineers" by Harrison Quill
Facebook has 13 data centers
Know i feel guilty watching Netflix ! .
I have a video that is personal and private that I deleted from my phone, can a hacker or someone recover it without having physical acces to the phone?
to work there its just like a dream come true. for me
not a lot of employment there.
On the off chance you make it in, invest in some quality ear protection. Any normal server room is already loud enough to need it generally, can't imagine how loud those must be.
TIME STAMP BOI

Errr. Aws was completely down 6 months ago for a half day. People forget so quickly...
Justin Wood that means it worked...
A well done intro but there is much more complexity in "cloud". Search phrases such as "cloud private vs cloud public", "hosted vs cloud" & "Multi-tenancy". Actually it seems nobody agrees on the exact meaning of the term "cloud". Many data centers are "co-lo" which actually just houses your servers while cloud seems to use their servers to host your applications but you are not renting rack space, you are sharing usage of their apps such as Microsoft Office 365. Start thinking in terms of applications. SD Wan is more info which will confuse the issue, but SD Wan isn't a pure setup, it usually continues with traditional server networking and routing along side with SD. This is evolving rapidly.
Cloud means we are in airplane on air.
Nope not all the data centers are 100% filled
why 23 years
Amazon (AWS) has 90% of the market right now in the world
Google Cloud has the 5% but not growing enough like Microsoft
Microsoft Azure has the 5% for now because they're growing
what would happen if that center was bombed??
5:52
Amazon: the company that “sells books and stuff”. Has that reporter never shopped on Amazon?? This isn’t 1998.
DNNY O She’s being sarcastic
Is Loudoun County's lure tax breaks/holidays the deal breaker to build there? If not, what is/are the draw(s)?
Also, for the workers on the lowest rung at these data centers, is reliable public transportation and affordable housing available in the county?
All that and plenty of dark fiber.
Do banks and government departments are allowed to put their "customer's" data on AWS??
Because on the video aws 's main customers are some entertainment purpose companies!
old people teaching old people things everybody knows.
If only a decentralized version of this - could - exist!
"Most of the time, nothing happens on the internet except a bunch of cat videos." --professor Who is an idiot
Not really, it's a fact that most servers have idle (=waste) rates over 60%
Yes let us downplay the govt private data center relationship can we say - SNOWDEN
i hate the word "CLOUD".

"most of the time nothing really happens on the internet besides a lot of cat videos."
That's one of the most unintelligent things I've ever heard regarding the internet.
"...dwarfing the part of amazon that most people know, the part that sells books n things."
Books n things? Try EVERYTHING.
I feel dumber after watching this video.
xi jin ping also wants a cloud too.
