      None of the current HyperDeck Studio lineup can record uncompressed video.
      It simply won't recognize a 2160p60 signal. It will appear as though no signal is present.

    I have two of the original HyperDeck Studio Mini with the two SDI outs. I know you are a fan of the older ones as well for that 1/3 form factor and still having that ability vs these 1/2 rack units. I'm really torn on upgrading to these or keeping what I have. I don't' really see a huge benefit to the new ones over the old over than the buttons on the front. Anything I'm missing that would make upgrading an easy decision?

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Год назад

      USB-C device support is nice. You can record directly to a USB flash drive and edit directly off of that drive, for example.
      The newer ones also have dedicated Timecode inputs and outputs. And supposedly better playback compatibility with H.264 files created on a computer. And also they have USB-C webcam emulation to make it easier to get video into a computer.
      But if your firmware is up to date on your original Studio Mini you aren't missing much.

      @@djp_video Thank you for the quick response! One last question. Do you know if there is a cross conversion on the outputs? Can't find that info any place. If I feed in an SDI in to record program on the unit can I get that program feed out via HDMI? Or does the HDMI only loop out directly what's in the HDMI In? If it cross converts that will save me from one less converter because I want to have a program out available via HDMI. This is all connected to a 2 M/E Constellation for reference.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  5 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply; I just noticed that you asked a follow-up question.
      I have the Monitor SDI output connected to a BMD SDI-to-HDMI Mini Converter, and use that to extract the audio. (I use the Monitor output because it's down-converted to HD, thus eliminating the need to get the much more expensive Teranex Mini converter.) In this particular case I have it set to AES digital audio mode, and have it connected to an Audinate AVIO (AES version) and use that to put it on my Dante network so it stays in the digital domain, and from there it's just another Dante source available to my mixer.

    Ok so I want to stream local club's football matches. I am confused between vmix or any hardware encoder (like HyperDeck Studio etc). Also, should I use Hollyland wireless device for video transmission from the camera to the encoder or it should be wired? In short, I wanted to know about an affordable streaming setup to begin with live sports streaming.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  3 года назад +3

      The HyperDeck Studio is a video recorder, not encoder. The newest HyperDeck studios will simulate a webcam and let you connect a computer over USB to bring the video into OBS or vMix or Zoom, but they won't stream directly to RUclips/Facebook/Twitch, etc. on their own. If you wanted a product from Blackmagic to do the streaming look at the Web Presenter HD or ATEM Mini Pro/Extreme.
      If you have a choice between wired and wireless, go wired. It is so much more reliable.
      In terms of going with vMix vs a hardware switcher, vMix has more flexibility but it wouldn't be a good choice if your video is being shown on a projector or TV screens at a venue -- there would be too much delay. vMix also requires that you have capture devices to bring video in from your cameras. The total cost of a vMix solution is almost always going to be higher than an ATEM Mini.

    @DougJohnsonProductions, next time you do an overhead camera shot…please consider zooming-in focus so we can all have better eyesight. And when you tell us that this hyperdeck sits in the middle of BlagMagic’s lineup - then please spend enough time informing us as to why we’d need to upgrade to a better one. Which I’d love for you to tell me here in a reply. What is the current top-of-the-line hyperdeck and what cool feature does it have that the Studio HD Plus doesn’t. Trying to buildout my studio. Thank you for the excellent content.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  3 года назад +1

      I removed the zoom lens from my overhead camera. I was using one of the electronic zoom MFT lenses on my Micro Studio Camera, but it was such a problem that I swapped it out for a fixed focal length prime lens instead.
      The HyperDeck Studio HD Plus adds 4K at up to 30 fps and a larger form factor with bigger and more buttons, separate fill/key output, an HDMI input, and a speaker over the new Studio Mini HD. Compared to the older Studio Mini, it has an HDMI input, timecode input/output, more/bigger buttons, a speaker, and USB-C recording and USB-C webcam emulation.
      The top-of-the-line HyperDeck is the Studio Pro 4K. It offers 4K recording at up to 60 fps in h.265.

    doug is there a way where u can set up a hyper deck as a instant replay player for use in a live sports broadcast. where as you may create a macro to cue up the last 10 seconds and play the reocord event while still recording the live event.. thanks in advance

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  3 года назад +1

      With a little bit of writing some code, you could make a HyperDeck do a basic job of instant replay.
      The big problem with this is that it can't play and record at the same time, so whenever you need to play back something you've recorded you have to stop the recording. Which makes doing replay correctly difficult.

    Maybe you are the guy to ask. Is there any chance at all… to send an SDI loop over the internet? Like say I have a remote co-host and we both have the studio cam 4K pro. We are getting them. But I can not find out how to do this. I know another work around. But the SDI loop would be amazing!!!

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  3 года назад +1

      Short answer, yes, it is possible... but it requires some expensive gear, or an expensive connection.
      What you're looking for is Video over IP. There are a bunch of different protocols that can do this. NDI is one option, but it's going to require a pretty fast and very stable connection. If going that route, I'd wait until NDI version 5 hardware is readily available. You could also do SRT. Hardware for SRT is pretty easily available and isn't that expensive. If you're willing to dedicate a computer at each end and add a capture device to bring in the SDI video you could do something with WebRTC like vdo.ninja/. If nothing else you can use Zoom or something similar. All of these options are going to compress the video, so you'd be losing quality, and in most cases you're looking at significant lag as well.
      The much more expensive but highest quality route is to go with fiber. But that's usually reserved for big companies with enough money to have dedicated fiber runs installed.

    Sooooo... I guess no one is going to ask the obvious question..... Is the HyperDeck Studio HD Plus as PICKY with regard to what SD Cards you can use as the Hyperdeck MINI? A great improvement would be that you can use any good quality SD card... Early on I was in a pinch and had some brand new SD cards that I thought would work and I ended up missing half of the show cause the cards would not work.... Now I have 2 dedicated 128GB Angelbird SD Cards that stay in the unit and 2 dedicated back up SANDISK SD Cards that stay taped to the inside of the case...

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  2 года назад +1

      That's a good question, and one I don't have an answer for. I've only used it with SD cards that worked well in the older Mini. I haven't tried anything else (mainly because if a card doesn't work in a HyperDeck, it isn't of much use to me so I don't buy them.)

    • @djp_video

    Do you have any tips on creating a 24/7 live stream from any outdoor IP camera to RUclips?
    I watched all of your livestream cam videos with creating your own server, but I see people live-streaming like nature footage (such as on Forrest Unteathered) but their setup is like $1500…. I’m looking for a way I can take an IP camera, and connect directly to a RUclips livestream. I also know a lot of other people are trying to do this, so do you have any tips you can share with the world to keep the cost minimal while still getting 1080p 30fps on a live stream to RUclips?
    I have 1000mb download and an average of 450mb upload speeds so I know my house can handle the data stream, but I just don’t know what program or “app” to use to live stream an IP camera directly to RUclips without requiring a computer to run 24/7 with it…
