I knew exactly what you were talking about. I couldn't think of what is was for either. But have no fear, Luckily I saved the owner's manual for the pool and looked it up. They are calling it a "Pre-Installed V-Shaped Spring Clip". (In the parts list it says there is 1 extra) There is a note in the assembly procedure that says: "Each vertical leg has a V-Shaped Spring Pin pre-installed." So now we know and knowing is half the battle. Thanks for watching!
