How to Patch your Vinyl Liner Pool: • How to Patch your Swim...

I have an above ground pool and I use a soft car wash brush. It does the job very well and there is no danger of damaging the liner with it.
I have a in-ground vinyl liner pool and collected all your videos. They are all spot on and as a DIY saves me money. The Pool Surface Cleaner I was not aware of this product and will start next pool season. Thank you for all this great information and demonstration.
Very helpful. Thanks Mark !
Draining your vinyl lined pool is a set up for trouble. Believe this; one of my kids poked a hole in the bottom of our above ground pool years ago. The guy at Lesl** Pool supply sold me on a patch product, but instructed me to “drain the pool for best results”. Not knowing any different, I did just that. Patch complete and let it set up till the next day and refill. About 2/3 full, the liner pulled away. I blamed the kids for getting in and climbing out with their feet against the sides. Drain again and repeat. Yep, liner separated from the top deck channel again. Went back to the pool supply and asked the same counter person why this was happening. Once he discovered his error on instructing me, he forked over a new $130 liner. This was in 1988.
That was decent of him.
Liked and subscribed. First time Pool owner, above ground 12’ x 24’. I have a lot to learn.
Thanks for this video. The cleaning part was huge for me! About 5 years after my mom passed, the liner just died in those areas where sun beats on it and I wasn't diligent about cleaning but she did!
Thank you for sharing all of this very valuable information. New subscriber.
THANKS GREAT INFORMATION MANY BLESSINGS ❤❤❤
Thank you 👍
Nice service
All your videos are excellent very detailed and understandable. What we should we if chlorine feeder started overflowing?
Thanks for sharing Like 2.1K+
Mine in-ground liner lasted more than 15 years! Replacing it now. It's just a thin layer of plastic; people need to remember that. A three-thousand-dollar one.
I uae a lightweight sponge mop to "brush down " the sides and bottom. Wirks great.
Hi There, thanks for the video. Very interesting around the above water area. I’m in the UK and am in need of the invisible liner replacement patches you noted in this video. Where would I send the picture of my liner to be matched if possible?
Thanks
Mark
You can send your pictures to my email which is on my RUclips channel. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the info, I am in my second year of owning a brand new 24' above ground pool. In your experience would the dolphin E10 robot poke pin holes in the liner around the cove? Mind you these holes are only on one side of my pool not the whole thing and I do clean 2-3 times a week. Or would a bristle brush left in the sun last summer be the culprit? I am leaning towards the plastic bristle brush when I had an algae issue last summer.
The E10 cleaner is made for above ground pools and is safe, the pin holes you are referring to may be from the brush. There are several different types of floor brushes available (good, better, best), getting a better brush will have softer bristles and will last longer, however when not in use store the brush out of the sun. Thanks for watching.
Hi Mark,
Great video! We just had a new liner installed in March...my husband and I noticed that our pool is losing water very slowly, but we are having a difficult time located the leak. We think it's a pin hole size. We have an above ground pool. It has a metal circular 24' frame. It looks like water is coming from bottom or down on the bottom side...just not sure...do you have any suggestions of how we can locate the hole?
Thanks in advance!
Jackie😮
You may need to get in the pool with a mask and look for a hole. If you see water around the outside, then your hole will be in that general area. Once you find the hole, you can patch. Good luck and thanks for watching.
How thick of a liner should be bought AND what would be the life expectancy of a pool liner. I am considering an inground/slightly above ground pool 16 to 18" above. Thankyou!
Most liners are 20 to 27 gauge/mil, and they all can last about the same. Chemicals and house keeping plays a huge role in the life. In chlorine pools, a liner can last 10 to 12 years on average, In salt pools, a liner can last 6 to 8 years on average and in baquacil pools, a liner can last 15 to 20 years on average. Keeping the water balanced and cleaning the water line will help extend the life of a liner. Thanks for watching.
Do you have an video on how to measure a pool for a new liner?
Not at this time, thanks for watching.
How avoid a metal rusted blowout ?
How do you recommend lifting a sag area of the vinyl liner? Do you recommend a tool to use? Thanks.
I made a video on how to put the liner back in the track, here is the link. Thanks for watching.

I live in canada and was told our winter are not good to leave our above ground pool liner up any thoughts
This depends on the type of above ground pool you have, if you take precautions and winterize your pool properly you should be fine. You can also check with a pool professional in your area on certain tips, it is always best to be safe because you guys do get some harsh winters. Thanks for watching.
Hi Mark, thank you for your video, I have some concrete sealer that is unfortunately stuck to my water line from the concrete company, it’s been 4 years now and I can’t get it off . I was thinking after seeing your video that I could try to buy the vinyl cleaner you were using and attempt that but I’m sure it’s not going to remove the areas of sealer that are bad . I was wondering if you think I could place a patch over the unsightly areas to cover it ? Can you help me match my liner ? If so how do I contact you? Thank you
If you would like to email some pictures of your liner I will be glad to help. Our email is on our website.
Never drain the pool? Does that include Intex above ground pools in harsh winter environments?
I've been taking mine down every fall and reassembling in the spring.
Intex pools are seasonal and you will be fine taking down and reassembling. Thanks for watching.
My mother has a 10 meter tiled pool in Spain , can we liner over the tiles instead of taking tile off , second do you have any idea of what the cost would be ? Just a rough idea so we know when we ask that they are not ripping us off , thanks for your help.
If you have a concrete pool with tile, you can not go over with vinyl. You will have to fix or repair the tile in your pool. Thanks for watching.
I had a yard flag get in to my pool over the winter I know have a rust stain on my liner Do you have any idea how to remove the stain from the vinyl liner
Yes, they do make stain remover. Most pool stores will carry this. Follow the instructions and it should help, sometimes a second treatment is needed for stains that are really bad. You can also put PH minus in a sock or panty hose and apply or scrub the spot directly.
Get some "iron out".
I tried to use a magic eraser on my water line, I only did a section, due to it having a black ring stain around it, some came off but it did discolor some of the liner. I stopped from going any further. What do the black stains come from? Is it metals or scumb?
Dirt, grime and other pollutants build up at the water line, this is why it is important to keep the vinyl clean. Cleaning the water line with a surface or vinyl cleaner will allow the liner to breathe and add life to the liner. Most pool stores sell this type of cleaner. Thanks for watching.
What kind of automatic pool vacuum would you recommend for an inground vinyl liner pool, 3 ft shallow, steep drop, 8 ft deep
Dolphin makes some of the best robotic pool cleaners, here is a link to a video on some of these cleaners. I do carry dolphin robotic cleaners on my website, if you have any questions l will be glad to help. Thanks for watching.

Matronics Dolphin!
Are you offering a non embossed 25mil or 30mil overlap vinyl liners for a 24'x52" above ground pools ?
All the liners l carry for above ground pools are 20 to 25 mil. I have both, full print hung and over the wall. If you need help feel free to contact me and l will be glad to help. Thanks for watching.
I have a crease in my vinyl pool where the deep part starts. Where the slope begins. I tried to plunge it over and it doesn't seem to work. Do I need to drain the pool? Any ideas?
I would not drain the pool, but you can lower the water and leave at least 1’ in the shallow end. This way you might be able to work it out because there will be less pressure on the liner, but enough water to hold the liner in place. If the liner is not to old you have a good chance that you can fix it, however age and the type of chemicals you use in the pool will play a big part in your success. Thanks for watching.
Hi I live in Ny. I have a waterfall wall on the side of my pool. The stone has created a serious amount of calcium deposits on the liner. It’s white and very crusty. How can I break this down and clean the liner without damaging it. It is all above the water line where the liner remains dry.
Keeping your water balanced will prevent this in the future. You can use baking soda and white vinegar to clean and remove calcium build up. Take 2 to 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part white vinegar and make a paste. Apply on the surface and let it set, after awhile you should be able to remove the build up, you may have to repeat more than once depending on the amount of build up. You can also wipe down with just vinegar, once you have removed most of the build up. Thanks for watching.
are robotic vacuums safe for vinyl liner pools?
Yes, most robotic cleaners work on all surfaces concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. I made a video on robotic cleaners if you want to check it out, here’s the link ruclips.net/video/uALbybBPOw8/видео.html
We have a stain in our pool and all videos refer to is metal was root cause, we can’t figure out how that’s possible since we don’t put metal near pool? We’ve tried stain products from our local pool service any suggestions?
I would have your pool water tested at your local pool store, they do make metal and stain removers. You can also take PH decreaser and sprinkle some over the area where the stain is and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes and then brush it off. This should work, sometimes you may have to treat more than once, depending on how bad the stain is. After you are done you will have to adjust your PH. Thanks for watching.
We have an inground pool that requires a liner. Previous owners pulled the liner, now there is a significant leak into the pool through a crack in the concrete.
What is the best method to repair the crack? We have been told it is not necessary, but the water flows in constantly. I want to repair the pool and get it working.
Without seeing the severity of the damage it is hard to say. You can also remove the section of deck and replace. If you would like to email some pictures I will be glad to take a look. Our email is on our website.
I have an inground pool too. If I were you I’d fill it in lol
I am looking for vinyl patches and went to your website and cannot find any patches at all. What am I doing wrong
If you email a picture of your vinyl liner I will be glad to help match your liner pattern and get you patch material. Our email is on our website. Thanks for watching.
My pool liner has turned dark blue due to the pool cleaner having added soda Ash/ sodium carbonate to it...could u pls suggest how to get original crystal clear light blue color back pls advice...will be so grateful to u...thanks 😊🙏
Without knowing your water balance, l would recommend that you have your pool water tested at your local pool store. They should be able to help. Thanks for watching.
@HallmarkPoolSupplies OK...I'll get that done...thank you so much for responding 😊🙏
Surface/vinyl cleaner brand recommendation?
There are a lot of different surface cleaners, they all work well but I like to use Tile Cleaner RX by Poolife.
What is the name of that background music at the end of your video?
The music was created by “zachs_tape”. You can find more on his instagram.
How can I consistently have the correct chlorine amount in a vinyl lined pool since I cannot have a chlorine tablet dispenser floating or a chlorine tablet in the pump strainer?
Make sure your pool is running, then chlorine tablets can be put in a floating dispenser, chlorinator or even the skimmer. If you don’t use tablets you can use granular chlorine but you will have to check your levels daily. Thanks for watching.
Do you know anyone that replaces liners in Phoenix, Az
Unfortunately not, thanks for watching.
What pool pump filter can I use for a $500. Pool from Walmart. Don't like what came with it. Help thanks!
4000 gallon pool.
There are a lot of different filter systems out there, most of these pools come with a cartridge filter system. If you replace with a sand system it will be much better than what comes with the pool, however some of these systems can cost more than the pool. You can go to the manufacturer’s website and research some of the different systems, there are also aftermarket systems that can also work with your pool, it depends on how much you want to spend. Thanks for watching.
I have brown powdery spots that keep coming back in my above the ground pool and I have done everything the Leslie Pool staff have told me but everyday the spots are back. Help me please!
This could be several different things, without a water sample its hard to say. It sounds like you could have mustard algae, if so you may need to treat the pool for mustard algae. When a pool has mustard algae, once treated you have to vacuum the pool to waste or the algae will just keep coming back. When vacuuming to waste you will have add water to the pool.
Vacuum to waste, treat it for the algae afterward.
can you put ant killer "over and out" UNDER a pool liner when installing?
Yes, thanks for watching.
Can you kindly make a video about bumps (like small rocks) underneath the floor liner of an in ground pool? TIA
I have these too and i ran over one with the pole vacuum and it snagged and tore a big hole in the bottom of the liner!
How about cold weather, keep the pool full? It will freeze solid here in the Dakota's
I would contact your local pool company in regards to winterizing your pool properly. They should be able to go over the options and procedures for your area in detail. Thanks for watching.
My pool bumpers keep falling off. Is there a way to glue them in place?
If your ladder bumpers are that wore, you need to replace them. Thanks for watching.
Why does the paint start to come off the steps? We just change n reprinted the pool last year
You need to make sure your water is balanced and that all levels are in range. If you physically painted the steps you need to make sure the right primer and paint was used. Thanks for watching.
I saw the cricket 🦗 swimming
Where can I purchase the surface liner cleaner from?
Most pool stores carry surface cleaner. Thanks for watching.
How do you fix structral cracks on the pool deck near the stairs?
Without seeing the cracks or the severity of the damage it is hard to say, if you would like to email some pictures I will be glad to take a look at what you have. Our email is on our site.
I have been told CALCIUM is a good thing to add to the water to keep the liner "pliable". Any truth to that?
It is important to maintain good water chemistry, not only for the liner, the equipment and swimmer comfort. When water is not balanced properly damage can occur. Thanks for watching.

So just making sure there are only 2 ladder bumpers: male and female right? Because my neighbor told me there are 72 different types of ladder bumpers and some may also be non-binary.
i don't know which chemicals to use on my new liner, have 27 ml liner
For a vinyl liner pool l recommend Baquacil , check with your local Baquacil dealer for all the benefits Baquacil has to offer. If not chlorine would be fine. Thanks for watching.
amazon sells it but its quite expensive@@HallmarkPoolSupplies
The biggest mistake in pool ownership is spending big bucks at a pool store on supplies that can be bought elsewhere for much cheaper. Pool cleaners are just other products rebranded, pool chemicals are mostly the same. If it says it's for your pool it's marked up 1000%.
Great!
could you give us some cheaper alternatives by name?
i tried to educate myself the best i could and with granular dichlorine to shock the pool, baking soda and a pool vacum i was able to recover 15 000 gallons of green water that's been sitting since last summer and now is cristal clear and has perfect chemistry.2 weeks and 80 bucks
@@Neadmo1 muriatic acid instead of ph -,soda ash instead of ph +,baking soda if you want less ph increase and more alkalinity increase
@@Neadmo1
Clorox/Baking Soda.
😊
Salt Water or Chlorine?
Salt is chlorine based, l prefer chlorine over salt due to all the corrosion you get with salt. Thanks for watching.
Mark,
I am a 1st year pool owner. Above ground 28ft pool.
I did not use a pool pillow for my pool cover and while attempting to remove the pool cover some of that residual water and leaves got into my clear pool water turning it brown. I’m worried I will not be able to get the water back clear, will that be a issue upon opening my pool up this weekend and cleaning it up? Please help
Take your water to your local pool store and have it tested, then you can chemical treat and vacuum your pool once it clears. It is a little upsetting when something like this happens but you will be fine.
Wow, you still had a clear pool? Your gonna be fine. Run your filter.
