Thank you so much for this informative video! I just removed and installed our new liner today and used all the steps and it looks great. Saved us 500 dollars and waiting weeks for someone to come out and do it.
I just about to finish liner installation! The only thing left to install skimmer! I did everything without vacuum cleaner and liner seats almost perfect. During the installation i initially made some space between the liner and wall (inch or two)! When water goes in (i am using garden hose) it presses and stretches liner towards the wall and eliminates air thru the skimmer opening!
Thanks for posting this video. I plan to replace the liner in our 24' x 54" pool and this was so helpful in my planning process. I had never heard of Wall Foam, but now I plan on adding it to my list.
Awesome video!! You guys did a great job! I'm a 1st time pool owner and this video will be very helpful if we ever have to change the liner. Thank you 😊
What's the deal with wrinkles on the side wall? i'm replacing a liner and I feel like the previous liner was flat against the wall, but the one I see in this video has some wrinkles. do they work themselves out, or should I expect to remove some top caps and pull the liner a bit tighter in some places?
Hi Dan, the wrinkles in the side walls will usually work themselves out when the pool is filled completely. The main focus should be removing the wrinkles on the floor since those cannot be removed without draining the pool.
Great video, well explained. Gotta do my 21 ft above ground this weekend. I checked out estimates on install, was given an estimate of 2k. Using my liner, I am no crackhead to know better😂😂, a six pack, with my wife and I am gonna try. Will update!. Thanks
Hey! I install above ground pool also and just a tip when you the lyner is installed put tape on the skimmer and put a shop vac in the return hole, this way the air will take the place of the water for the time the water raises, so impossible to have wrinkles! On a hot day you can also use your feet when the water has at least filled the surface of the pool to mimic the water weight and cut the skimmer and return earlier
For some reason I had thought you normally didn't install the top rim until later so you could pull wrinkles out of the sides..... We are having issues with the pool liner being pulled up and almost over the top and maybe not putting the ring on is why? The bottom isn't exactly level (old pool someone else installed years ago)
Unfortunately, the owner of the pool does not remember the make and model of the pool. If you would like us to ID your pool. Please email the following pictures/information to agparts@inyopools.com: Size & approximate age of the pool Image of the pool wall. If you have drains in your above ground pool, you would treat them like the skimmer. The liner would go over the body of the main drain. Then you'd line up the main drain face plate over the liner so that the holes from the face plate and main drain body match up. Tighten the screws through the frame, liner, and into main drain housing. The liner material in the center of the frame can be removed and the cover can be installed.
As the water rises, the air behind the liner and wrinkles should be pressed out. The frame of the above ground pool is not airtight, so trying to shrinkwrap the liner in that fashion is not usually doable.
Yes, we carry a few Aqua Leader top cap variations, you can find them on our above ground pool top cap page - www.inyopools.com/Category/top-cap-selections.aspx
Thank you so much your videos came in handy! I've never install a linner before the local pool guy was charging me $1700 with the liner and Amazon had it for $400 so I did it and I had left for my honeymoon!!@
They installed it wrong.. you are suppose to get the wrinkles out of the bottom and then put a shopvac through the skimmer to get all wrinkles out until the water gets about 3 to 4 inches deep
I just had a brand new pool installed. My base was 7/8" compacted aggregate the pool company never put down no sand over top of the aggregate, nor did they use a pool cove. They put peat moss on top of the aggregate then installed the pool liner. We went into the pool and we could feel all of these dips plus sharp areas where we walked around the pool. I'm presuming our brand new pool now has to be disassembled and redone properly. I've order a ground cover and pool coving. I'm also going to order Mason sand and put it down prior to putting down the pool padding. Are you able to tell me how much sand I would need for a 18' round above ground pool? How hard is it going to be to realign the liner with the skimmer? Thanks I would appreciate any answers you can give me. I'm still waiting to see if the pool company is going to take it apart and reassemble it properly.
OK. Now how do I get out of the pool once I fitted the new liner and before filling it? I'm afraid of using a stepladder for fear of putting a hole i the new liner. ;)
@@bdoubleu6 Yeh. I don't have a ladder I have steps, which I decided to use, but was wondering if anyone had success with a step ladder (without ruining the liner).
You can use a piece of plywood (rounded edges) under a step ladder to avoid pokung holes. Just have someone stabalize the step ladder- and something in the outside to step onto if there is no deck. You can atring rope thru holes drilled in the plywood to pull it up after ladder is removed.
I've heard that a pool will collapse AS it is drained!!--- Is this true? What precautions can we take to prevent this? Our pool is an above-ground, 33 footer! 😳
Hello Lisa - Unless the pool is severely damaged, draining it should not be the reason it collapses. Above ground pools are drained all of the time to replace liners. There is a risk of the pool collapsing if you leave it drained for a long period of time. Natural forces like wind could cause the pool wall to collapse.
I was given. 28 foot above ground pool. I disassembled the pool my self and now when I am.putting it back together at my house there seems to be not enough liner. It's like the liner was made for a 26 foot diameter pool not a 28 foot. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
If it is the original liner, it may no longer stretch enough. This is common when an older pool liner is allowed to dry out. Installing the old liner on a warm sunny day may help the material stretch, but you may end up needing to replace the liner.
We drained our pool to clean leaves (our cover didn’t stay on the pool thru winter). When we starting filling the pool back the liner kept slipping out of the tracks. Had to drain and move the liner. Same thing. Our liner had shrunk because we drained out all of the water. Had to replace liner.
You can use a shop vac to suck out the air from behind the liner. You can insert the shop vac hose through the skimmer wall opening. And slide the hose down between the wall and liner. Keep the suction opening of the hose about 12" from the cove. Turn on the shop vac. You can turn off the vac and adjust the liner if you notice wrinkles.
The weight of the water helps stretch the liner to the form of the pool. Once the pool is filled, the liner should be pressed to the wall and wrinkle-free.
FYI, think ahead of time. Where I live, thunderstorms pop up randomly. I don't have time to drain the pool and wait around for the remaining water to evaporate. And it's unbelievably hard to get all of the water out using the pump, the siphon trick, and even a wet vac. After messing with it for over half a day, I just cut the liner at the bottom, but with the coves and plastic floor in place, that water doesn't go anywhere. So then I spent another 3 hours cleaning up a mess, and the ground is saturated under the plastic flooring. It's been the biggest nightmare. Get yourself a pump that can get every bit of water out if you have a tight deadline.
I had to replace my liner 12 years ago and put in a main drain on the bottom of my pool at that time in case I ever had to drain it again. It helps circulate more with a skimmer and main drain. I'm getting ready to change my liner again next week and so glad I installed that main bottom drain last time. Should be much easier to drain this time using the pool pump.
@kathylp8459 I may do that next time round. I finally got the water clear, and high winds blew in unexpectedly that night, collapsed the wall in several places. What should have been a simple project turned into a nightmare 2 month project. I did find out after that the ground wasn't level, and they didn't put any pavers in, so I redid everything right. And the creases worked themselves out with the pool filled up, been enjoying it since. Invested in a sump pump for next time 😀
I see that this took two men I guess a couple of hours to do this. Do you feel that this is really possible or do you just call a professional in? I want to do this because I can’t get any pool company to replace my liner for me. They won’t touch it because they didn’t install it.

You do not need to add silicone to the screws. The return gasket will be enough to seal the hole.
