I am at the stage to round the bottom rail of our 27' above ground pool I have measured the radius to the inside of the bottom rail, the slot for the wall and the outside of the rail. The radius on the inside is 13'4", at the slot is 13"4-1/2" and the outside is 13'5". The radius should be 13'6" for a 27' pool, should it not? If so, when I try 13'6", the rail segments are a long way away from the small tab in the rail connectors. Also, when I laid the bottom plate blocks, I placed them so the rail will cross the midpoint of the block, at 13'6" but the rail is way out of centre to the point of sitting on a few blocks right at the edge. I also laid 3 evenly spaced bricks in the gap between each bottom plate. I can easily adjust the bricks but the rail will not be centred at 13'6". Will it be a problem to use 13'4" or 5" in stead of 13'6"? I just received my mason sand and want to get it laid and levelled ASAP. Any help would be appreciated.
I would not be concerned about 13’ 4” or 5”. Your bottom rail sections don’t need to be touching, but they shouldn’t be too far apart either. I also would worry about hitting the center of your blocks. As long as they are on a good solid base, you’ll be fine. Their purpose is just to help keep the posts from sinking and spreading out the force a bit.
Excellent video! 1 question for you: The bottom rail the pool wall sits in my set up is plastic and 1" tall. Could I run 2" foam boards all the way under the wall rail and to extend past the outside edge of the support pavers? I am thinking I can cut out the sections where the paver supports would be and level them out with the foam board. I am concerned if I cut the 2" foam boards like you did (within the pool wall) I won't be able to lay the foam cove up against the rail and will be left with a gap.
It would probably work ok, but let me give you a couple other options. First, before setting the wall, I set my foam inside with just the bottom rail and cut it all when everything was easy to lift and handle. Second, will you be using the angled sticky foam at the bottom of the wall? If so, that will help hide gaps so it doesn’t have to be perfect. I know mine isn’t perfect.
im replacing the liner in my 24' round above ground, im confident in my ability todo this, Do you have any tips or advise? i watched your video when you disassembled a pool that you had bought from a neighbor and i was very impress at how easy you made it look
If you’re just replacing a liner, you’re already far ahead as your pad is in place, the wall is set, etc. Start by taking the top caps and seats off. Then you can remove the metal plates and liner channel tops one at a time to drop the old liner in. Put the channel back on the top to keep the wall in shape, otherwise it’ll collapse in. You may need to use a metal plate here and there as well to keep it against the posts. Then, do any raking or smoothing that is needed prior to installing the new liner. Make sure you set it out in the sun so it’ll be warm and pliable. Start at one area and remove the channel, put the liner up over the wall, and put the channel back on. Just like removing, this is necessary to keep the wall from buckling. Once you are all done, fasten everything in place. Put a shop vacuum on the return jet to provide suction on the backside of the liner and start smoothing it out. I used water, but this method is a bit easier.

I was considering using foam board as well, but I was actually going to put some sand over it and sweep it to fill in any cracks or cruise and also just to have a layer of sand over it, what are your thoughts on this?
It would probably fill the cracks well. The issue with sand is it moves under the liner. Eventually, it will feel bumpy by people walking in it. Now that would only apply to you depending on the thickness of the sand. I wouldn’t go thick otherwise you might as well just use sand as it’s cheaper.

Hey man, did your wall return back to normal once it got hot out again or did it stay buckled and you continued filling the next day and the water pushed the debt out?
It returned back to normal when the liner warmed up and stretched. The liners have a lot of stretch to them when warm. They’re designed a little smaller than the pool so they can stretch and for fit to the installation. You definitely don’t want to continue to fill it if the wall is still buckled. It’s still going strong and I’d recommend it. As I stated in my video, don’t get the style that is pre slit for easy snapping apart. Those stupid little slits collect dirt.
They do and that’s one of the reasons a new liner is recommended. If it’s reassembled quickly you may get away with reusing it but it could split also.
@@watr77222 I usually see it split when trying to unfold it and put it in place. If it survives the installation and fill it should last a little while. It won’t last as long as a new one obviously.
Thank you for the feedback! A drain in the bottom? No I did not. I briefly considered it but I wasn’t sure I needed or wanted one. Even though they are the norm for in-ground pools, they’re not very common in above ground pools, at least not around me. It didn’t have one when it was assembled at the neighbors and I wasn’t sure how it would hold up during the winter. The pool itself freezes over at top and we drain it below the skimmer and return while leaving those open to allow water to drain. I was afraid the pipe may freeze and crack and wasn’t sure how to prevent that. Does the pool you’re assembling have a drain in it? Where are you located?
Hi great video, I also used foam board on my 12x24 entex pool. My foam board was interlocking and I used tuck tape worked well. I will be doing a new round one and was wondering what round size is yours?
This is a 27’. I think I’m going to pull the liner at some time and tape the seams more, and maybe even use a different style tape. The liner has pushed into the tape a bit so dirt falls in those lines.

That’s correct, we did not. That is another great method. We just used water, which holds the liner against the pool as well. Before the water truck arrived we used the garden hose to put some water in the pool as we spread the liner out and got it nice and smooth. It’s the same method I used for our former Intex pools so I just did it out of habit.

@@jessica4885 I’m glad to hear they were able to get it back on and repair the holes. How much water is in the pool now? You can schedule the water truck for any day it will get warm. A liner will warm and cool within hours. We had our first truck later afternoon/evening and had to wait until the next day to get the rest as the evening temps weren’t high enough. We needed the daytime temps to help warm the liner so it would stretch. If yours still has a lot of water in it the liner is probably still stretched into place.
@@jessica4885use boiling water from the stove to pour on the liner then pull it up and tuck it in. Then use liner lock in that spot. Provided that your liner is not real old
I’m thinking it took around 2-3 hours to disassemble the pool. Assembly took most of the day, and that because I took my time not having set one up before. I checked everything several times making sure everything was staying round and wasn’t getting oblong.
I’m thinking it was 3-4 hours. I spoke with a pool installer and he said you can’t water the sand enough. You have to think about it like a beach. When you walk in dry sand it will move under your feet but when you walk on sand that the water keeps coming over, it’s very hard.
@@JaredsShop Lawn roller pushes rocks down and starts the compaction process. In your case, with foam boards, roller probably not necessary. Anyone using just sand 90% of installs, you would need to use a roller or trial regardless of how much water is applied. Another option to foam boards would be .5 inch happy bottom. One advantage is the bottom is padding feels great but unfortunately most installers use thin wall foam which you can’t feel. Disadvantage is the good stuff is $250 a roll. Shop vac behind the liner before the garden hose eliminates the need to push wrinkles. out. Definitely speeds up the process. Anyways your pool looks great / likely better than most of the “pros” in the pittsburgh area.
It’s the opposite. You want the sun out so the liner is being warmed up so it will stretch. If you fill it when the sun is down and the liner is cool, it can’t stretch and you can collapse a wall as it will be pulled down under the weight of the water.
Hard to say he could be on well water which has a lot of minerals. Maybe just the ease of filling the pool quickly. Haven't watched all the video while making this comment.
@@tanyawashington8124 I have well water and it’s not good on it for a few reasons. One, I want the water clean so I obviously want the water to go through the water softener and I’d have to stop every so often and let it regenerate. Second, it’s very hard on the well. That’s a lot of water to pull out of a well. It can be done but if a well is run dry it can collapse before adjacent water seeps back in. Third, it’d take forever.

I’ve seen cove base installed after a decade and still not compressed. New cove often goes in with every liner, but not always. I wouldn’t install a pool without cove. It’s much better for the liner, pool cleaning, the wall channel, etc. No reason not to use it. Walls rust due to all types of issues but I haven’t seen one rust out at the bottom due to foam. Good thing you put a cove in on the wall..family leisure didnt put one in my brand new pool and now we have a leak and never been in the pool .....installers didnt spread the sand up the side of wall for the liner support...$5k and cant do anything till they redo my pool and hope they dont give us a runaround
When will the video showing the sand being leveled be posted?
Unfortunately, I don’t believe that video is going to happen. Due to a hardened be crash, a lot of footage was lost. It would be a very scattered video.
How has the foam board held up over time? My wife likes the idea of that, just looking for some input on how it has held up before committing.
It’s still going strong and I’d recommend it. As I stated in my video, don’t get the style that is pre slit for easy snapping apart. Those stupid little slits collect dirt.
@@JaredsShop good deal, i appreciate it. The wife really liked that idea, so i guess its off to Lowe's today. Thanks again.

Did u pour concrete for the pool to set upon.
Hello I will be disassembling a pool 24x52" the name is next I think ..any info on that
They all come apart in much the same way. Do you have any specific questions?
Question do the liners dry out, when you bring down the pools?
They do and that’s one of the reasons a new liner is recommended. If it’s reassembled quickly you may get away with reusing it but it could split also.
@@JaredsShop Hi, when you say split, do you mean upon installation or anytime thereafter?
@@watr77222
I usually see it split when trying to unfold it and put it in place. If it survives the installation and fill it should last a little while. It won’t last as long as a new one obviously.
Also needed to see closer up on the way of taking it down and putting it up
Did you not put in drain, great video.
What thickness is the foam board?
1.5”
@@JaredsShop thank you! I realized you said it after I watched twice. We watched the taking down of the pool and just did it. Was literally an hour. Thank you for the video.
@@tianamarie989
Very nice. It definitely doesn’t take as long as you think.
How much was the water truck?
It’s been a while so I don’t remember exactly but think it was a couple hundred per truck load.
Great thanks for video
Great video! Getting ready to do do this. What size pool is this?
Thanks!! 27’
@@JaredsShop thank you!
Thank you so much for this info video. I'm getting ready to do the same. How many sheets of foam board did you use?
Thanks! I’m thinking 19-20 but that’s been a couple years ago. Make sure you don’t buy foam that’s pre slit and tape the heck out of the joints.
@@JaredsShop Awesome, thank you! Yes, I remembered what you said about the dirt collecting in those score marks. I am also going to purchase the 2in board and opt out of the sand all together. I was given a pool (26'x48") by my neighbor that is only 2 years old! I am excited and a little nervous about the whole thing but with your videos and some other videos about leveling the ground I'm starting to feel more comfortable.
@@keithgoodman7966
Awesome. You definitely scored. Take your time and make sure you have some help. The wall is probably the worst part.
Make sure you have a good foundation though. Everything is going to depend on that.
@@JaredsShop Absolutely, will do!!
@@keithgoodman7966 did you get the pool set up?
What kind of tape please
I used gorilla tape, but if I were to do it again, I’d use foil tape. I think any rubber or plastic backed tape will stretch down into the seams and allow dirt to accumulate. Foil tape shouldn’t stretch.
@@JaredsShop I can see that happening. I love that foil tape and use it for everything
I was just wondering , you guys did not use shop vac to remove air and help get your liner flush with pool wall before putting water in your pool ?
That’s correct, we did not. That is another great method. We just used water, which holds the liner against the pool as well. Before the water truck arrived we used the garden hose to put some water in the pool as we spread the liner out and got it nice and smooth. It’s the same method I used for our former Intex pools so I just did it out of habit.
@@JaredsShop oh ok . I was debating putting a new liner in my pool because my beaded liner came off the track , but my pool company was able to get it back on . Next week here in NY were suppose to have close to 80 degree weather so I’m going to let the liner get warm then finish filling the pool with water .My problem started during the winter when I noticed water level in the pool dropping , my liner had two holes in it which were repaired
@@jessica4885
I’m glad to hear they were able to get it back on and repair the holes.
Provided that your liner is not real old
How much you charge? I got one job 😢 and I need to know how much to charge
I did this for myself and do not do it for anyone else.
How long did the disassemble and reassemble take you?
I’m thinking it took around 2-3 hours to disassemble the pool.
Assembly took most of the day, and that because I took my time not having set one up before. I checked everything several times making sure everything was staying round and wasn’t getting oblong.
Hook a vacuum will suck the liner to the wall
Yep. It works well to get it placed and work out wrinkles.
tape foam kick boards on your feet, lawn roller sand, light watering 10 min. 0 footprints. How long did the install take?
What size is your pool?
I think just buying a bunch of plastic clamps from Harbor freight and string lines to hold the wall and liner on would be easy.
@@maykevin5
The clamps would certainly work. What are the string lines for?
The robot climbs the wall?
Yep!! Helps to keep the wall clean, especially at the pool line.

I watched the video because I have a pool to take down and reassemble elsewhere
Awesome. Good luck!
I heard the sun ☀️ was bad when filling up your pool 🏊♀️ when the suns out should be done when the sun is going down
It’s the opposite. You want the sun out so the liner is being warmed up so it will stretch. If you fill it when the sun is down and the liner is cool, it can’t stretch and you can collapse a wall as it will be pulled down under the weight of the water.
Why do you need a water truck. Why you can't just fill the pool with a water hose from the house water.
Hard to say he could be on well water which has a lot of minerals. Maybe just the ease of filling the pool quickly. Haven't watched all the video while making this comment.
@@tanyawashington8124
I have well water and it’s not good on it for a few reasons.
@@JaredsShop Thank you.I thought I was doing something wrong by using my water hose taking the house water😂😂😂Thank you.

Use flex seal tape
Use the tape for where?
Foam cove will compress over time. Foam floor will hold moisture under the pool, and cause the wall to rust.
Foam is a good bit of work and isn’t for everyone. My pool floor is much flatter than a sand floor though.
