Project Binky - Episode 4 - Austin Mini GT-Four - Turbo Charged 4WD Mini

- Project Binky: A Toyota Celica GT-Four engine, gearbox and running gear is being shoe-horned into a 1980 Mini 1000. In episode 4, the Mini finally gets an engine. All the running gear gets installed and there's a miracle prop-shaft situation.
It finally dawns on us that it just might be possible to get the 3SGTE engine in the car and the project might just work!
Please share far and wide. Thanks for watching!

holy shit at the prop shaft fitting with no mods, that is the most unbelievable bullshit ever
WINNING
roflex2 It seems to be want to be built...!
you did watch the part were he recreated every single mounting point accurately from the celica to the mini?
big daddio seen as though the prop was of a Lexus and not the Celica
wayne rorbach doesnt matter when the celica front and rear suspension is closer mounted togheter in the mini than the celica
Had me worried at the start, thought a real friend had gone, luckily your grinders are alright.
You guys just answered the greatest question of them all: WILL A LEXUS IS200 PROPSHAFT FIT INTO A MINI COOPER WITH A DRIVETRAIN LAYOUT FROM A TOYOYTA CELICA GT-4? Yes... yes it will :D (amazing guys, just amazing)
We've gone to a hell of a lot of trouble to answer that most burning of questions. I hope you all appreciate that....
somewhere there is a toyota engineer crying for joy that someone finally discovered his secret design
@@ChristmasCrustacean1 as it turned out, no, it actually doesn't. what they didn't take into consideration was the lack of oil seal in the gearbox, before they went to weston park they had to cut and mod the driveshaft just to get it running
@@micrahq5954 I'm not the only one up rewatching this tonight then 😂
@@danwilliams6776 yes mate, you could say that. I'm actually up doing conversion wiring loom bits for K11 running gear going into a K10. Doing a lot of legwork for the future so if/when the customer straps a turbo to it it doesn't make her dead 😂
Your knowledge and skills are beyond impressive. And with the addition of entertainment.
+David Matt Thank you David.
This is the first episode with the “make the noise!” bit. Fun fact.
It's also the first episode where Richard "gets the funk out" 😁
Glad to here there is more "Make the Notice" coming!
l learned more about metal fabrication in the first 3 videos then i have since i started working on cars years ago. Making the brackets in seperate pieces is so easy.
RIP Kettle 4.
BlueSuzy u wont be forgotten... for 10 minutes
Fantastic work. Loved the video.
+EricTheCarGuy Thanks Eric!
+EricTheCarGuy Yes quite amazing work..I don't think most appreciate the amount of time and skill involved in what is being done here.
+harry guy Indeed it is. I wanna be like these guys when I grow up.
I've always wondered if you followed this series. So happy to see that you enjoy it as well :)
🐦 🐦 🐦
Incredible stuff. I just can't stop watching you videos.
Tamrat Assefa Thank you!
I check my youtube subscriptions daily with a faint sigh of sadness when I see there is no latest episode. I know you shouldn't wish your life away but hurry up end of April. Great work guys .
Thanks David!
One of the finest series on RUclips
I'm almost worried that the rusty celica parts are contagious, and will infect your new steel!
thundercamel Don't worry, we'll clean them.
@@BadObsessionMotorsportHaving watched Ep 29-31, you really weren't kidding...
Who knew it would take 6 years before they clean them. Lol
I can’t believe they didn’t blast them
@@ShaunHensley They did, just took a while.
I'm hooked on this series.. If only discovery turbo and all other car shows were this in depth with the fabrication, That's the best part 😄 great work and editing 👌
+R1rookie Thank you.
If anyone was looking for the "Getting the funk out"-song starting at 14:56
It's Topher Mohr & Alex Elenn - Rubber Necking
Another true craftsman (or two) at work. Beautiful.
Only one craftsman. The other is just a hanger on...
This is 1000 times better than anything currently on tv.
Amazing engineering on the W.O.O.D there guys
woo loved every episode so far, cant wait for more :D
So glad you're enjoying our escapades!
After all the hard work you guys have put in, I hope the celica engine is good
Sigh. I've only just got that the 'lighting supplier' is I've a lamp. I'm SO glad Max Ironthrumper mentioned this in his project awesome series today, else I'd never have found project Binky. I feel pretty lucky encountering this now and having so many episodes to watch! RIP kettle number 4.
Incredible job! I hope you finish soon so that you can share it with everyone. Congratulations from Spain
Muchas gracias!
18 dislikes for people that think they can do it better. Well....where's your Celica GT-Four Austin Mini? Hm? Thought so. This is very entertaining.
Not about the engineering, the awful so called comedy. Lousy humour gets the dislikes
@@ShanghaiGoat You are now in volume 6 of Nick's book of people who can fuck right off. Congrats!
@@ShanghaiGoat it's British humor, most people don't get it lol its roll your eyes humor .. i put up with it daily in work
I'm ashamed I'm only watching this now. Incredible metal work. Getting a right wee throbber watching it haha
I just love this series! This is the most impressive show of fabrications skills Ive ever seen. Cant wait to see the mini done!
Thank you sir!
top quality workmanship guys!!
Thank you Kevin.
This guy has MADD skills... Talk about Building a Mini.... Awsome fabrication skills
You two are legends
Cheers Rhys!
Fantastic episode, looking forward to number 5
"we needed some luck and that was it" - about the IS200 propshaft... That came back to bite them 7 years later apparently as it was like 10mm too long because of the oil seal on the gearbox
5years later that Miracle is200 prop still makes me smile :) haha
This is just stunning fabrication! Can't way next episode!
Cheers Joonas!
Some crazy talent involved in this build.
cant wait to see when its all finish! small in size, big on powerrrrrrrrr
This thing is gonna be a beast.
All as I can say is WOW!!!! you guys have got more patients than a hospital.
We don't show you the huge amounts of wailing, swearing and gnashing of teeth. But believe me, it happens!
I can well imagine & don't forget the skinned knuckles & welding blobs down the shoes.
The amount of work and time is just unbelievable! The craftsmanship as well! Hope I can be this good one day!
FreshLemunz Thank you!
How the fuck have I only just found these videos when they been up for some
Years fair play to you these are golden
In memoriam - Kettle No.4
Sound by Mike Standish and Lighting by Iva Lamp - brilliant!
Love this series so much. Cant wait until the next episode!
Thank you sir!
Just watched 1-4 back to back.......need to see it finished now. Awesome job guys..u need to be on Discovery! Keep em coming.
Thanks Mark!
brilliant......i enjoyed your Binky project once i had a paramedic had picked me of the floor with cramps laughing hard.......truly thank you.
Re-watching the lot backwards because it makes more sense; has taken them 34 episodes to get all of the running gear in and I'm only 3 away from seeing the mini move under its own power.
That´s superb, amazing, awesome, outstanding and legendary! I keep waiting to project binky updates as old ladies waits for soap opera! cheers from brazil!
Obrigado Felipe!
Bad Obsession Motorsport Obrigado for the obrigado, You were featured in very well know website around here. I think a lot of brazilians are watching you guys
We're delighted that our overseas friends are enjoying the series. Thanks!
hugely impresed with the work.
Thank you Nick.
You're most welcome. There are so many videos on RUclips that seem to glory in doing things badly that one often wonders if there are any craftsmen left outside of the high-end factories of Maclaren et al. Great to see a small firm taking the time to make something beautifully.
this is the best video series about minis on youtube. heaps good,
You're very kind. Thanks!
This is going to be a fantastic sleeper car!
Yeah, we think so! ;-)
Amazing, you made my day.
Funny enough, when I realised there was a new video to watch, I made myself a brew!
Keep it up guys!
Amazing work being done in these videos. Thank you, keep it up.👍
+John Roberts (Johno) Thank you!
Followed this link from the GT4 Owners Club forum and I'm blown away. It's heart warming to see true British (stand and place hand on heart) Engineering in motion. The quality of work is just astounding; Very entertaining to watch and again; I cannot get over the craftsmanship. Bravo guys. Can I visit can I visit!
Make the noise..
Thank you sir!
Watched this episode 3 times now, just because i cant wait for the next episode.
Keep its up lads.
Cheers Adam. We're still working on episode 5.
This is unbelievably awesome. Please please please keep them coming
I think I started at about episode 28 so this is all backfill. I'm no stranger to working on cars and helping out with fab on stuff but I am absolutely in awe of your process and level of attention to detail, the rack jig is just one small example of a huge amount of knowledge on show here.
This is one amazing project! Now I can't wait for episode 5.
Ohh, so lucky with the driveshaft, love it!
This. Project. Rocks.
Just watched ep.14 after the long wait, and just had to start over and watch all earlier episodes again. Insanely cool, awesome to see all the details of the build, and frakking hilarious.
-I almost fell off my armchair (again) when the latest diss of imperial/colonial measure came... "If you're watching this in black and white" xD xD xD Well played, sir, well played.
For another diss, enjoy v=fhDtegMoyTQ
same here!
So~oh awesome ! Entertaining , superb engineering , enviable welding skill and top shelf fabrication . The two actors to play Nik and Richard are perfect . Commentary and sound (funk) are are I.L.M. quality 👌🏻
Well done guys much better than a car is !!!! You know the one and your funnier.
Thank you sir.
These videos are outstanding. I just watched all 4 and learned a bunch from them. I've been wanting to do a RWD to AWD conversion for some time now. What I've been trying to figure out was how to properly locate the front suspension and transverse engine in an engine bay meant for a longitudinally mounted engine. Your videos just taught me how to do it.
Thank you so much. Watching these videos has re-kindled my desire to start my own AWD conversion.
Delighted to be of service! Thank you.
"People called Romanus they go the 'ouse?"
Seriously good work there - I'm totally hooked. Makes my Rusty Jag project look tame.
It says, "Romans Go Home."
Bad Obsession Motorsport No it doesn't. What's Latin for Roman?
Historic Binky-video: the first one with FUNK!
I want to keep watching but every episode makes me want to watch Police Squad more and more
Love to see this in the flesh
You rock Guy's Very nice fabrications can't wait to see episode 5
Thanks Martijn!
Just found your channel and watched the first 4 episodes, great stuff, funny, entertaining and informative. 👍
Thanks Perry.
Absolutely brilliant work again guys, love the comedy too. Waiting for episode 5 now
Cheers Heath!
+1 :)
Epic fabricating skills :-) Looks really great :-)
Looking forward to the Next episode ...
so funny humor - it´s just so enjoing to watch!
Great!
Bloody well done so far.
Thank you sir!
I live in the United States. More COFFEE. I am sending my condolences on your loss.
Romans go home?? One of my favourite films "Life Of Brian"!! I've said it before and I'm sure I will say it again!! You Sir's are nuts!! Really enjoyed this episode, great to see it all coming together!! Cant wait to see how you overcome the space issues around the engine.
Damn you guys. Now I'm hooked.
So... The Funk made it's first appearance 15mins in. At this point in the series I imagine it was being kept in a battered Quality Street tin, bedded down on assorted used repair washers and fed on biscuits crumbs. Fast forward to episode whatever it is and the Funk has it's own Tiger King style enclosure and demands prime cuts four times a day! BOM, you have created a Funk Monster!
Also the first appearance of "MAKE THE NOISE!"
He is a good worker that lad. I am loving these series episodes. Mega shed engineering.
The Lexus prop-shaft being an amazingly exact fit could prove very useful if it breaks during a race as it's easy to have a spare handy!
14:44 stellar smoke ring!
This is epic! Can't wait for the next episode! :P
I legit said Bugger just before he said bugger at 5:53
Am I British now?
I'm drinking tea too at the moment, can I join the land of Brexit and Biscuits please?
make the noise...the same sentence that's in my mind when I watching 2014 F1....in waiting for the 5th episode. Great work!!
Not much better in the world than re-watching Project Binky, and having a nice, hot cup of Earl Grey tea :-) Except watching a new episode of Project Binky.....
+Carstuff111 😀
Seriously though, since the moment my roommate showed me this channel, I have been following, and being as science and engineering are a HUGE part of my life, and so are cars, this has been one of the most amazing builds I have had the honor to watch. If you guys ever happen to be in Northwest Arkansas sometime, I would happily buy you a pint :) I can not wait to see this beast run!
I have no idea what you're talking about the entire time, but all that metal-work is pretty and I love tea. Subscribed!
David Paul Tea is all you need! And a grinder. And a welder. And lots of other things, but they pale into insignificance against tea.
That's how I feel about almost everything. I think I have an addiction. I think we both do
Thank you RUclips...Finally something GOOOOOOD!!!!
Wow!!! Impressive craftsmanship
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I look forward to these episodes so much! Fantastic work guys!
You're very kind!
Inspiring, impressive, and entertaining. Can't ask for more. Really awesome stuff here.
Fantastic work fellas! Bring on episode 5!!
Thanks Jeff!
Roll on episode 5. I feel there will be many more kettles mourned. 😂
"make the noise!" had me DYING! Excellent work guys, this is ART!
fergie232 Thanks!
Who would had thought a propshaft from an AWD Lexus would drop right in...that was an incredible find.
douro20 We were massively lucky with that. It's almost like she wants to be built...
I really look forward to watching your mini build, Ive sent all my friends a post so they can watch it..roll on episode 5,
Cheers!
love the fabrication in this great work
Rewatching…again! Funk makes first appearance in episode 4 😎👍❤️✅
Geez it must be cold in there, fellas! You're blowing clouds everytime you talk!
Loving your mini project , i used to have a mini and always wanted to do somthing like you have done but couldnt , cant wait for the next ep
I really do love this project, well done guys - can't wait for that next episode! :)
Great episode again lads can't wait for 5 .
subscribed....this is so great to look at that after working in mi shop I watch this for inspiration....
Thank you!
Gotta say... if not rather late in the piece... this project is seriously bonkers... binge watching atm. Love the CAD design, the humour and the fabrication is at an insane level... love the show guys... and now for the next few episodes!!!!
First instance of FUNK! 100 years from now, school children will study this episode in history class!
Great work guys. I wish I only had your skills and facilities to create things for my own four.
We hope the finished article will do justice to the awesome GT-Four.
I am sure it will come out fine. I am curious about your bump steer solution. I had been in talks with one company on coming up with a solution for lowered 185s, but if they do not I will likely have to get something fabricated. I already have a tierod flip kit, now we are hoping for an extended ball joint. Bad Obsession Motorsport
probably the best build series ever, love the neat work :D cant wait for the next episode
Thanks very much!
