I think MCM is arguably one of the best programmes ever to come out of RUclips. From the production and editing to the factual info it provides - its a masterpiece in all aspects.

don't need much torque in a fwd 700kg car. motorcycle engine is more compact too requiring less cutting.

That's the only proper Mini build on RUclips (outside a few, but sadly undocumented ones). This one...just a kit swap inside a car that was worth more original, much more, now it's worthless.

aserta Well yes tho that Binky is the only "proper" build and no to this being worthless. I think when a car is your hobby it's what it is worth to you what's important. Not what it's worth to others :) I think this is a really cool build too.

It isn't JDM because the "D" means "Domestic." It can't be "Domestic" to Japan unless Mini is a domestic Japanese manufacturer. They aren't.

Emmett Turner this version of the mini was only sold in Japan, this is why is JDM. you have to import it into aus to own one in Australia.
it was made for the japanese domestic market. thats why even though my integra WAS MADE IN JAPAN its a USDM integra. made for the us market.
Kagebushin24 I'm telling you in no uncertain terms: that doesn't make it JDM. Does a California emissions version of a Kawasaki bike become "CADM?" No. It's CA-spec. At one point in the video they called this a J-spec Mini, and I have no problem with that. It's correct. JDM has a very specific meaning and it doesn't mean "car sold for the Japanese market," it means "for the Japanese domestic market by a Japanese domestic manufacturer." Otherwise, it's JIM, for their import market.

This is such an odd episode, because Moog has these very brief moments during when he's discussing how they've got to cut into the sheet-metal of the car where you can see in his eyes that it's almost like he realizes he's having to butcher what was a perfect car before he decided he needed more power, and since the entire car is apart (having spent what was almost certainly several hours if not a few days of both his/Marty's as well as the other guys' time), there's really no turning back at this point. I haven't seen the other videos yet, so who knows, I'm sure he's going to love the final product. But in this video, he's definitely got a few moments where he's trying to hide that he's feeling overwhelmed at chopping up a car that's special to him.
Just after I'd passed my driving test at 17 a friend of mine, with a family racing history, had a 1275 Clubman GT worked on by Colin Clan. I had a hat he wanted, the deal was I could I drive the 1275 in return for the hat. A lot of years later the memory still makes me smile and shiver!

So weird to look back at this episode and see Turbo Yoda in a proper work shirt! The Skid Factory has a much more laid back feeling to it!

Fark, when Turbo Yoda is involved im happy.
I feel like an NA B series is a lot slower than what you're thinking. The original car only weigh like 300kg more than the Mini, and half of the kids with them gut them. Like.. if it's NA I just don't see how it's going to be as satisfying as the other MCM wagons you guys built. Oh well will just have to wait and see what it turns out like.
The 90's the B16B actually has about 20 to 30 more hp compared to a b16a/b16a1. a B16B has roughly the same output as a B18C engine.
i have a feeling this thing will not remain n/a for its whole life. but honestly it'll prolly be supercharged, i imagine trying to fit all the turbo components in there

I went o.0 when I found out he doesn't like SR20s. That's been described as one of the most tunable, reliable, best designed modder engines of all time. I wonder why he doesn't like it?
Numinous shitty head design. They're a dime a dozen, that's why they're so widely used. Plus they sound like farting tractors.

Elxmo Perhaps stock, but I've heard their potential is top-notch and they have like zero design weaknesses. Heads can easily be worked over and stuffed with new cams to flow a ton more, for instance. I watched a video that described it once. I wish I could remember why they were saying the SR20 is so good. But they were quite adamant about its superiority.
Josh Deason That's what it was, IIRC. And I heard that besides that, it's a very well-designed motor, durable, etc., sort of like a 4-banger equivalent to the 2JZ or RB26.
Elxmo Good info. Head flow isn't as important on turbo cars, however, as boost is a game-changer and can be cranked up with proper turbo selection. That's actually one of the reasons Honda heads flow so well and rev so high - they have to in pursuit of good power, being N/A.
When Honda used a long shaft and a short shaft the long shaft bent into a corkscrew and caused major vibration. And, that was with their 50 HP engine! By making the long shaft into two pieces they were able to keep the shafts relatively thin without it twisting up.

The siamese head on that motor will never do much. To make much power they would have to replace to bottom end and head for less power and less reliability compared to a proven motor.

IamNeil aRon how would you fit a 2jz? The b16 is already to big and barely fit.
The only way you're getting a 2jz mini is if you had more money than sense. You'd have to build a tube frame RWD pseudo replica. Even if you could modify a real mini to fit a 2JZ, the weight on, and power going, to the front wheels would ruin any chance of it ever driving properly. Infact, you'd basically have to build a new chassis to have a show.
I did a quick google and there appears to be a few people claiming to have RWD minis, but they're using bike engines etc rather than a 3l straight 6.
Well there is Fiat 126 with V8 so why not i guess xD

A K20 swapped classic Mini would definitely be an amazing thing. Particularly if you decide that torque steer isn't something to be concerned about and you decide to slap a twin-scroll turbocharger onto it. The B16B is also a great option, but the twin-scroll turbo is still a fun idea if you hate your front tires.

my brother who sadly passed away.put a ford escort cbh engine in his mini and also
turned his van into a six wheeler,there's no pictures as it was the 80s.he also had to cut the bulk head

a supra mk3 project would be absolutely fucking awesome after this.
You have a 3 post mount from a dc2 integra. You need a 2 post mount meant for a b16a2 from a usdm 99-00 civic si OR you need to simply change the post itself to an integra type r post mount from a dc2 integra
Had you gotten a b18c type r motor, the engine mount on that kit would of fit.
they sorted it out and put out a plea on FB
but yeah. they have the dc5 3 post and needed the ek4 2 post mount.
I had been through that with my b18 swap.
The engineering on these parts is just beautiful. :o
