  • Written in 1911 by Gerardo Metallo. This march has been performed by tens of thousands of accordionists and probably won many prizes over the 100 years since it entered the piano accordion repertoire. Not everyone, however, has enjoyed this 'folksy' genre. In particular, according to Marion Jacobson's "Squeeze This!", Anthony Galla-Rini complained that "musical tastes [were of such] a deplorably low standard in the past, such musical banalities as 'Sharpshooters March' and 'Beer Barrel Polka' should not be played in public, or given as lesson assignments." (page 72) cited from Guido Deiro's unpublished manuscript. Well, I'm hear to say that this song may not get you into Julliard (I don't even think you can major in accordion) but it will bring lots of smiles on people's faces. This is my own interpretation of this famous march.

I was 15 years old when I bought my first second hand accordion-inspired by hearing this being played by a fellow the same age. I am now over 80 and still have a nice Horner 120 with many changes, I still have the Sharpshooters music from all that long ago, now and again I play this as it takes me back to great days I enjoyed your playing, it took me back to those young days Thank you for sharing this. 👍🤗😁🎼🎹🇦🇺
