I wonder sometimes, if Miranda was trying to create her own rival to the Erdtree. Maybe Miranda being "first of her breed" to these maneating flowers meant embedding herself in the Flower Crucible, hoping to grow an Erdtree or Erdtree equivalent, like how Miquella watered the Haligtree with his blood. That would also explain her prayer dealing holy damage.
Now that I think about it, the Miranda flowers consuming human flesh isn't all that different from the Erdtree reabsorbing bodies through its roots. In real life, plants are almost only ever predatory when the soil lacks the nutrients they need to survive, so they get extra nutrition from predation. Maybe, then, they're maneating because the Erdtree is denying them their own supply of bodies to consume.
Going off that, we can actually find Miranda sprouts growing out of piles of corpses in the Leyndell Sewers, some of them even hide in the bodies until we approach. I would wonder too if the different varieties of Miranda flower could be from them, for example, consuming lots of sorcerers in the Liurnia region, or rotten bodies in Caelid.
These flowers are so interesting to me, lol

On the Shadow Tower fromsoftware games the towers/trees just work like that, even guided by the great will, they're parasitic in nature , need human sacrifice to work and to create an ecosystem and a peak new lifeform, is weird to found that same stuff years later on Elden Ring

Now that the DLC is out, this video has a lot more context! The miranda flowers are definitely part of the crucible, there's a crucible spell for them now! It's very cool lore. It's probably the reason why this item got cut: They made the ability into it's own spell, instead, to introduce in the DLC. The incantation reads: "Aspect of the Crucible discovered in the ancient ruins. Creates a miranda flower on one's chest before calling down a rain of light. Charging increases potency. In an age long past, before this land was enshrouded in shadow, the vitality of the Crucible flourished."

11:12 something you would probably like to know is that blight is often a bacterial/viral infection. Blight in a historical context has been a symbol of both famine and opulence, (many different blights have caused mass starvation, where as there are a few instances of ornimental plants (typically flowers) infected with blights were sought after by collectors due to the change in appearance the effected plants would have (see: the tulip craze), there is also a rose roset disease.
EDIT: I bring up viral infections in particular due to the captivating mosiac patterns found in tulip breaking virus, which look strikingly similar to the affect on the blighted miranda

I wonder if the Formless Serpents assassins were in league with the Perfumers, and under the general umbrella of Miranda related lore. They used deadly poison helix arrows with their Serpent bows. The M name makes me wonder if she was a daughter of Marika. The GRM names all have a significance, so such could be speculated about Queens Gilika, Maggie and Margot as well. There seems to be a trend with Marika pruning away her primordial children and casting them off, as one would prune a tree to perfect it.

Honestly I have this gut feeling that Miranda is - or was, at least in some point during development - supposed to be a major figure. The item looking suspiciously similar to the Erdtree's favor talisman, the possibility of Erdtrees needing human sacrifice in order to grow, and so in a sense "feeding" off flesh... Not to mention Elden Ring's naming convention - Miranda and Marika sound so close for it to just be a coincidence.
I know many are excited for that juicy GEQ lore, but my crazy hope is for us to get something on Miranda and the flower crucible... in part 'cause I just really want to fight a floral dryad-type boss, that'd be sick as heck. I wouldn't bet money on it happening, but fingers crossed! That way we'd get the spell too, it's so weird it got cut.

    Great taxonomy notes
I actually want to say that mirandas remind me more of mexican pinguicula
Still carnivorous, pinguicula have a rosette appearance similar to miranda, have similar digestive habits to sundews, and produce flowers near their crown that shoot up similar to those you see growing out of the miranda.
Pings also have rather shallow roots and are known to "move" toward or away from light depending on their preferences by using new roots to help them crawl along soilbeds
They can also go "dormant" or enter a succulency phase which will take form in shifting it's leaves from carnivorous to succulent, usually due to a dry season or lack of light

When I saw the Miranda Flowers during my first playthrough, I couldn’t help but think of the Spider Lily. Sure, they’re not the most visually similar, besides their spread out petals and long stems, and Spider Lilies can be seen more as representatives of rebirth or renewal, but I look at them both and they give me similar vibes, of being seemingly deadly flowers best left alone, or symbols of death.
I really enjoyed listening to talk about flora as well Chalice. Flowers are a particular favorite of mine due to how many meanings and representations they depict in cultures and motifs, be it art or history. It’s so fascinating to think about the possibilities of cut content for this Miranda, and how much effort went into it based on context clues and descriptions. Cheers.

Most flowers at least the ones we sell arent even grown locally we are in California if you didnt know technically its a desert and most flowers besides poppy and similar types, most flowers dont like growing here. We can make do with drip watering it but extremely wasteful in water management unlike where we import them from which most come from Columbia at least the ones we sell. I love my job and im a straight guy with very average dude interests , just work with some cool 🌺🌹 and plants and bring joy and comfort in the form of an arrangements of flowers ❤ great video as always.

Thanks for making this video on the Miranda flowers. It really seems like flowers were at one point going to be as poinent as trees to the world. Malenia's rot power manifests as a flower and Gowry refers to her "daughters" as buds.
When it comes to the different types of Miranda flowers I think it has more to do with their diet. They are man eating flowers, so the flowers in Liurnia likely consumed mages, the stones being parts of the crown that weren't digested. The frenzied flower's likely meals would all be afflicted by Frenzy in the village. Which gives me a crazy theory "Miranda the Blighted Bloom" I think the Omen Killer fed an Omen to the plant causing its current state.

I remember drawing the effigy, I loved this design, I found it so beautiful, and as a guy, I LOVE flowers, especially supernatural flowers, so I was really bummed that this effigy wasn’t in the game, cause I feel Miranda flowers and perfumers had some interesting things that could’ve been dope.

We have a lot of examples of a creatures diet having a lot to do with their affinities. Such as the glintstone dragons, who gained their magic breath from devouring sorcerer's. I think the Miranda flowers absorb their powers in a similar way. Feasting on living things that are afflicted or associated with said element

what i find most fascinating (and honestly most beautiful) about Elden Ring lore, is the fact that according to Miyazaki, Elden Ring + the DLC are only "a piece" of the full story and world
perhaps they cut content for use in sequels, or perhaps they cut content because they're not making sequels
only FromSoft has the full story of this world, and i think it's brilliant that they've kept the bulk of it entirely hidden

If you look closely at the effigy you can tell that it's not really headless, it depicts the form of a humanoid woman with her head cast back, as if looking up into the sky; what you see there is her neck, running all the way up to her chin line, then her mouth, and then the faint hint of her nose. This could be suggested as a pose of prayer, looking up to the sky with arms (not really present here) outstretched consulting a higher power. It would kind of fall in line with the Miranda's power to call down holy beams from the sky. The main body or perceived "head" of the flower rising up into the air, like the effigy's face cast to the sky, and in response that power sending down beams of light.

Isn't it interesting that the giant Miranda flower can cast incantation almost the same like Miquella's light incantation, and it gets more interesting when we know the fact that Miquella is trying to make his own Erdtree, using his blood to grow the Haligtree, and the only one related to a flower, Miquella's Lily, and then has a strong relationship with another flower St. Trina... Malenia too if you want to count her Scarlet Bloom

Some trees like the Brugmansia when the flower is at its peak release a fragrance that can be toxic if inhaled when standing under the tree. The Oleander flower is similar to this and the sweet fragrant can be deadly. Be careful when smelling flowers, make sure to identify them first.

Just some things, that came to mind, after watching the video:
What if all the children of Golden Lineage receive a calling from a powerful entity or an outer god?
    - Malenia receives a calling from the Goddess of Rot.
    - Morgott receives a calling from Goddess of Blood.
    - Miquella receives a calling from an entity connected to sleep, at least partially becoming St. Trina.
    - Ranni and Radahn are both connected to the Moon and Stars, making them both very adapt at using Sorcery/Gravity Magic.
In case of Ranni, she might not have agreed to what was offered to her and chose to study under the snow witch, attuning herself to Snow and Ice-Sorceries instead.
The case of Morgoth hints at the possibilty, that there might be a choice involved as well, because he chose to listen to her calling, possibly leaving behind the calling, which was offered to him in the first place.
And Melina is ... interesting, to say the least. Maybe she was chosen to be a Flower Maiden, which is hinted at by the unique miracles, she is able to perform in the fight against Margit, where you can summon her.
What if this callling wasn´t in line with what Marika wanted her to be, because of connections to the (flower)crucible?
If I remember correctly, Melina herself told us(the player), that her purpose was given to her by Marika, which she is continously searching for.
My assumption is, that Melina didn´t receive a calling as a Finger Maiden. She actually tells us, that she is `no fingermaiden´ and is only acting the part.
Why would she do that? Does Melina only do so, because Marika told her to take on the role of fingermaiden?

  • @luminous2585
    @luminous2585 3 месяца назад

With this context, the idea of the crucible becomes much clearer. If there is a crucible for animals/beasts and a crucible for plants, it suddenly looks a lot like the real world subdivision of life into "Kingdoms" where there is Animalia (i.e humans and all other animals) and Plantea, alongside Fungi and Protista (I honestly don't know enough about biology to understand what Protista are.) There's more than just those four, but that's a whole can of worms. Though in very old, historic categorizations there's only Animalia and Plantea (which includes Fungi in this case.) This might have been the inspiration for Elden Ring's crucible, since it covers 99% of creatures in the game, maybe excluding magical constructs and space slugs.

I believe all the flowers on the Altus plateau except the shaded castle have that model same as the blighted bloom, and unique to them is that they inflict deadly poison. Perhaps they are a type cultivated by perfumers to get more deadly poisons.

In lower Leyndell church, I think the people being mistreated used to worship something that resembles a flower that never stops blooming. The church has it's carpet moved to the side like someone knew that's where grace was, but it implies that the church was being used for a different purpose, if the carpet has to be moved for something like grace to be hiding underneath. The windows are all metal engravings of flowers blooming from a central flower, and can be seen in some Nox areas. Iv'e seen two competing theories as to why they seal off their windows, but I'd argue the buildings original inhabitants culture normally keep light from entering their houses, and also like to wear cloth over their heads and faces for a similar reason. The Nox and the perfumers know about flowers with specific growing needs, like growing in the dark.
But back at the church you can see more, there is a statue of someone holding a golden flower, with two vines growing up the statue. Those flower vines are the same vines from the windows, now being grown into a single golden flower, and the other vines having trouble growing, focusing on climbing like vines rather then flowering. The same golden flower can be seen above the church being held by someone else, now a female, holding a spear made out of the growing gold flower, now plucked from the ground and being raised at the sky. The tip of the spear looks like the golden flower has bloomed a blade of light upwards, and the statue still has the other vines from the original entity trying to climb up it. It reminds me of an item description in game thats something like, "oh clinging creature, a king relinquishes not the hand". It seems out of context, but if the power the gods have came from this constantly blooming and adaptive vine, it could provide insight to why the crucible has multiple phases, if there is what it needs to bloom flowers it will, but if it needs to crawl up someone stealing it's power, it wont flower, it will keep crawling towards what is missing from it. The erdtree has giant vines being held back by the throne area, and a bunch of vines invading the city. lots of destruction in both Leyndell and in the nameless eternal city, are from those root looking vines toppling things over and destroying walls. They are also specifically what you burn to enter the erdtree, the church got taken over by erdtree faithful that used the crucible for their erdtree, and Miranda might have been the god of that culture. The erdtree's blessing was supposed to be a culmination of everything the perfumers learned from making a flower stay in a fertile form, which is the only time miranda pollon forms, very similar to the blessings that pool on the lower arch of the Elden Ring.
I think the dragons had a god and an age, but something destroyed their "sacred tree" which regrew into the flower crucible, not being bound by time and death now present in the world, allowed the crucible to bloom, but someone or something noticed one flower was golden and the central flower, and grew only that one to somehow become the erdtree

Been using Opera GX since its release, probably my fave browser.
I can understand why they removed it, it would make people wonder what other forms of crucible there are. if there is a flower one then perhaps there is a fauna one? dedicated for animals or wildlife in general. but the description of the crucible suggest its where all things began or something similar thus the ''primordial soup'' where all things crawled out of. still its also a shame would of been interesting to stumble upon a skyrim style spriggan with petals on her shoulders or something.
