    1.This video was made available EARLY for members and patrons! Lil incentive perk for generously supporting me ! Watching this video is more than support enough, and I'm really grateful!
    2. If you're wondering why I don't go into Shabriri, I have already in an older video of mine called "Grapes, Pumpkin Heads and Albinaurics." I also want to do a whole Chaos video at some point!

      fyi, spaking as an italian, "cesso" is prononced like "chess" with an o at the end. The way you prononced it is actually the "sesso", meaning "sex".

      You forgot to mention how dragon heart consumption inevitably turns the person into a Wyrm, and she may have chosen to be a bloody finger because Mohg made a deal to hold the transformation back so long as she serves him.
      Which is sad, because even if our Ronin got what he wished for, she would just turn into a flightless, belly dragging Wyrm.
      Which is truly the worst fate?

    there is an interesting last detail theory about Eleonora
    her bloodlust is so great, so strong, that she probably intent to betray her master and kill Luminary Mogh himself
    upon her death, she drops her poleblade (coolest weapon) and the purifying crystal tear, used in the physic flask to nullify nothing more than Moghwyn's Bloodboon Rutial, his most dangerous attack
    add on that she doesn't have the forehead trident tatoo that all other bloody fingers have

      Moreover, Yura seemingly betrayed his own morality by giving himself to a different type of madness, if Shabriri is speaking true. Perhaps he felt that he had to in order to be any match for Eleonora, or to make use of Shabriri's powers of suggestion. But if he had succeeded, then Yura would likely have succumbed to frenzy anyway. I think he's pretty certain that hunting Eleonora is his death sentence, so he made the deal. It's why he tells you to run away from her.

    • @dksu
      @dksu 4 месяца назад +31

      @@NickCombs I think that it's more likely that Shabriri was just trying to deceive you by taking the form of a well-liked and virtuous character (much as how he revives Irina, now in the form of Hyetta). He's also a known deceiver, based on what he tells you at the mountaintops versus what actually occurs.

    • @NickCombs
      @NickCombs 4 месяца назад +10

      @@dksu While I agree Shabriri is a liar, there must be limits on his ability. Otherwise, he could take over anyone at any time. It's a common limit in myths for an evil entity to require an invitation before they can enter. So I'm thinking along these lines when Shabriri says Yura offered his body to this entity.

    • @dksu
      @dksu 4 месяца назад +15

      @@NickCombs yeah it's definitely possible that he took advantage of Yura's moment of weakness. I guess I just doubt that Yura would willingly give himself to the Frenzied Flame. I would buy though that he was deceived into allowing himself to be possessed, much as we can infer that Irina may have been into become a vessel for the Three Fingers without knowing exactly what she was doing.

    I love how in ER, people who do invasions are basically labeled as snakes. Which is pretty much how one often feels about an invader, especially if they screw your game somehow. It's like Fromsoft is acknowledging the feeling, within the narrative itself.

  • @c0ffeef0x
    @c0ffeef0x 5 месяцев назад +31

    One thing to consider is that after the Agheel fight he says the line: "That was my first dragon hunt in quite some time. Paired up with a hothead like you, it was just like old times."
    This implies to me that he was speaking from first hand knowledge of being a dragon hunter and perhaps someone who once partook in dragon communion. It's possible he's warning you of communion in a kind of "do as I say not as I do kind of way." The 'hothead' even seems likely to be Eleonora. His reverence to her knighthood tells me that he admired her as a drake knight (and possibly could've been one himself), it was her fall to becoming a bloody finger that he hated.

I seriously do not understand people that do this shit of not watching the video, not reading an article beyond the title and so-on. It ain't hard to stop yourself from commenting cuz you're just being absolutely redundant with EVERYTHING you just said, Like seriously, It's a bit after the half way mark that ALL of the content or speculation in your comment is said in the video.
      The literal quote about hot-headed shit, the, at this point obvious speculation of his motivation for his words, etc. ALL OF IT, it's like you came to write this comment after you read the title of the video man, not even watched a few seconds

    I'm a late viewer to this one... my god, i was so heartbroken by the end. It's an unspeakable feeling how even a most tragic, fateful tale can suddenly be granted a touch of beauty by love's intervention alone. Appreciated as always your meticulous, sensitive approach to the character's actions and motivations, hope this won't come off as an admirer-tinted praise, but i truly believe only you could have made this video. Your narration all along was great but the emotion in your voice on that last bit, so heartfelt...
    As for Yura, props to the voice actor for conveying so well the feeling of resolve pushed forward by his devotion to Eleonora, his refusal to believe that even when she's gone so far, he could still save her from her blood-ridden fate. Then, his unconditional love, he didn't need her to love him back, true love asks for nothing in return, he just wished for her to be her former, actual self. The pain in his voice as he falls by her hand, how his last thoughts and wish are for her, the woman who remained immaculate in his heart, that's actually what left me heartbroken in the end.
    P.S. Apologies for the long comment and congrats on 110k subs!

    The word “kokoro” quite literally means “heart”, but rather than say the anatomically physical heart “Shinzou“「心臓🫀」that pumps blood in our veins, the word refers to the symbolic heart (❤).
    In Japanese, kokoro is used specifically to convey the emotional heart we love with, and our fondness for someone. For instance you could refer to keeping someone in your heart the same way you could call that person “your heart”.
    If that helps, I think there’s no mistake there was an implication of deep emotional bond, more than just camaraderie.

    I believe that his words about avoiding Eleonora might have a double edge. It might not've been for your safety alone, but rather, for the safety of the two people that he seemed to care about. He does show some genuine care by eventually lending his strength to your cause in something that he knows very well could potentially lead to your path to corruption. He might also have noted your potential, becoming increasingly more skilled as time passed on. He might've simply not wanted the chance of having to end up choosing one side or the other should it come down to you confronting Eleonora. He wanted to give himself the chance to get to her first.

    Violet as a colour also has a significant significance in Japanese culture, being associated with warriors and strength - often symbolised with iris flowers - in fact at one point it was a faux Pas to give a Samurai any other flower than a purple iris (I looked again cos I was hoping the flower-like guards on Elenora's polearm might be violets or irises but I think it's pushing it to claim that)

    As an italian myself I would’ve never imagined hearing the word “cesso” in a lore video. Btw (not to correct you or anything) the pronunciation of the word is “chesso” and, as often happens, more “vulgar” words directly come from latin. In this case the word “cesso” comes from the word “recessus” and the verb “recédere”, which basically means to go into a private place, without any “dirty” implications at all. It was only later on that people started using the term as an insult to someone, or something, implying that the “private place” was,in fact, the toilet. So if we interpret the word “cessblood” in a modern way, it surely refers to something dirty and filthy, but if we go back to the original meaning , it refers more to something almost “private”, or, if you prefer “hidden”, which is in my opinion perfectly in tune with the narrative of an hidden order, not easily accessible. Hope you found this interesting!

    On Yura's line; "I cut off the finger", it's far more likely that he's talking about his own finger rather than Eleonora's, as he is talking to her, rather than about her.
    It also makes sense that he's talking about himself, being a Ronin, he is without a master where once he had one, Mohg. As Mohg still lives, severing his own finger was walking away from his bloody oath, making him a blade without a master and he thus becomes his own master, following his own desire to liberate Eleonora from her own oath.

    My first Elden Ring character was all about dragon incantations and Eleonara's Poleblade. I wasn't intentionally Eleonara cos-playing. The drake armor set doesn't show up until much later anyway, for some reason, by which time I had my look. I've played through with a couple more characters but the first is still my favorite. Eleonara's Poleblade absolutely wrecks bosses, notably Malenia.

    Haven't done a Yura cosplay run yet but I have done Eleonora and it was pretty fun. Her poleblade has such high bleed on it making most bosses a breeze.

    Another fantastic video Chalice! 😄👍 I thought I'd heard and seen all of the Elden Lore at this point. I knew about Yura and Eleonora, got her blade and everything, but didn't know there was more dialogue with Yura at certain times. It gave them more character and life to their tragic tale. 😢

    *questline spoiler*
    Was really sad when I seen him be piloted by Shabriri, I would've thought he'd hunt us if we became a bloody finger or recusant. I really liked my few encounters with Yura, lowkey saved me from that one invasion at low level.

    The Bloodlust katana from DS3, which has the same seppuku weapon art, comes from pvp kills as the violet invaders as well. Tangentially related I suppose. Given that hint, it may have been that Elenora was a bloody finger when Yura met her, since the mound makers in DS3 are ambiguous. Perhaps its possible Elenora first invaded Yura while he was fighting a dragon and instead of attacking him watched/helped?

    On cessblood, I'm not sure if you mention this possibility in like the next 15 seconds or not but well, yeah. If the idea that the blood he inject you with is Mohg's blood, calling it cessblood might just be a tie to the idea that Mohg is an Omen born from the golden lineage and thus supposed to reside in the Leindell sewers.
    That said, his whole religion or whatever you want to call it is based around the formless mother and tossing her blood around like it's going out of style so it would make sense for it to be hers, which would also explain why it hurts so much, because, like, it's on fire. In this case cessblood might just refer to the fact they taint their blood with the blood of an ostensibly hostile (to the established ruling class) outer god. That said, Yura appears to be all for the flame of frenzy (if we take Shabriri on his word that his body was 'donated' rather than appropriated). so hostility towards the formless mother simply on basis of her outer goddiness seem unlikely. Unless the flame of frenzy is taking issue with the shared fire theme.
    Edit:
    Further into the video, yeah, I don't really think the explicit origin of the blood matters to Yura, just that it's as corrupting influence. That said, if the word originated with someone else and it IS Mohg's blood, it might just be a reference to it being omen blood.

    The purple invader part linked to the Violet Finger name was very interesting. This mechanic is also in Bloodborne if you are summoned as a cooperator but are in an opposing covenant of the host.

    Words cannot express the pain and fury I felt when meeting Shabriri in my first playthrough. "He gave his body willingly to me."
    No he didn't.
    I have yet to have a playthrough where I do not kill Shabriri immediately. To give Yura the peace he deserves. (And to get his armor)

    So early! Love your vids. When I played ER I turned over every rock, covered every inch. Or so I thought. I completely missed Yura until I read about him online! Tracing the outer edges of continents and cliffs is easy, but exploring densely populated areas it's easy to overlook things. Once I found him I thought it was actually a pretty obvious spot, but from certain angles on the outside it's just another crop of barren rock. Just goes to show how big this game is.
