    Right foot braking - love it. Marks reviews are a bit like Tesla in that he hasn't just augmented his profession, he's re-written the rule book. Watching other motoring journalists apply their trade is like Stepford Wives but Mark's reviews are so unique surely the fame and fortune of TV stardome beckons. Who knows, this time next year it could be BBC, Netflix or Hollywood. Or maybe even Tyne Tees.

    They've not been as frequent recently but that should change soon. Thanks for your patience, and for making all the hours I have to spend sat behind a computer looking at my own mug totally worthwhile. It's a proper privilege to do this job. I can't believe I'm still getting away with it, TBH. :-D
    Manly hugs and high fives, Mark. x

      I think we're entering an era when people are just hacked off at being patronised and thought of as idiots for the taking. Nothing puts a decent person off a company quicker than being conned, lied to or most annoyingly, being given a sales patter of answers you never even asked the questions for. Elon Musk is one of those setting a new bar in honesty and straightforwardness. He proved that by not simply running off stage when the Cybertruck windows got smashed. If you were a car salesman as well as a reviewer, based just on this review, I'd buy a car from you, because you told me the pros and cons then let me decide. Anyone who won't tell you what could be better, is either company gagged or just dishonest, so I shall be subscribed to you, and actually, I would work for a company that trades this way so please let me know if there are opportunities ahead in this new era of honest practices. I really have always believed that honesty sells best.

    Still not sure I’m sold on the idea of everything on the screen. Having to delve into the territory of virtual buttons to turn the heat up in my Volvo pisses me right off as it is. Plus I always seem to go over a bump just at the moment my fat fingers try and neatly mash the screen for the function I want...

    • @peterwilliamson1825
      @peterwilliamson1825 4 года назад +3

      Your comments might be valid in a legacy car like a Volvo but in reality with a Tesla you hardly ever have to touch the screen whilst your driving as most features are automated.
      Not only that, you're can turn on the climate control to have the cabin up to temperature before you even get into the car and voice command to alter the cabin temperature or seat heaters should want to whilst your are driving.

    • @BillHardy212
      @BillHardy212 4 года назад +1

      The temperature can be adjusted by an up and down arrow that is always anchored at the bottom of the screen, so no need to dive into any menus. Also, the last over the air update added tons of random voice commands, including various "natural language" things like "I'm too cold" or "It's cold in here" where it automatically turns the temp up 3 degrees and more formal things like "Turn the heat to 71." (edit: sorry, just realized someone else already covered most of this)

    • @peterwilliamson1825
      @peterwilliamson1825 4 года назад +1

      Agreed but you rarely have to change it. The car warm up (or cools) in second because it doesn't reply on heating the engine coolant first. I find once set at a comfortable temperature and the air is distributied how I like it, I never need touch it again.
      I can barely make it off my drive and the car is comfortable.
      Driving a Volvo must be like driving a Victorian contraption by comparison.

    • @BillHardy212
      @BillHardy212 4 года назад +1

      @@peterwilliamson1825 definitely. the heat kicking on instantly is one of my favorite parts about the car. I usually pre-heat from the app, but occasionally I forget. i really only change my set temp when the seasons change. Usually leave it around 68 in the winter and 72 in the summer with a bit of a transition in the spring and fall.

      And in reality this is a complete non issue. The speedo with its big clear digits is way easier to read than many conventional dial speedometers and certainly no harder to glance at. Personally I love the whole simplistic and solid feel, others might prefer a lot more bling and buttons to their dash, but it does work and do a great job. Think of the comparison more like that between an iPhone and a conventional phone with just a numeric display. The iPhone is not just more flexible and can use different fonts, it can communicate a million other things to us through apps and can do things that had never even been thought of when it was made.

    Nissan Leaf is an underengineered sh*box. At least Tesla tries to make their cars look sexy, well, except for that obnoxious Model Y.
    The interior could definitely use an upgrade in terms of materials used and a better integration of the large screen. Also, the steering needs a bit of an upgrade. Give it more feel and then I'd consider getting one. Also, the speedometer belongs in the FRONT of the driver. This nonsense of putting it in the middle didn't work for Mini and it doesn't work here.
    I am glad though that the Model 3 exists. It forces those corrupt and lazy managers at VW Group to finally invest in electric cars.

    Fact is that electric cars are still too expensive for most people. No matter what "value proposition" is, the price is too high.
    Just ask all the people looking at the used car market every day. Also, don't like the idea of having to wait 2 - 3 hours to recharge, as opposed to filling up in 10 min (that includes buying water and snacks at the register).

    I've owned the model 3 for over a year now. I'm not a car guy, but I am a tech guy. I didn't buy the car because of the environment either, that is just a side benefit that some people prioritize. After watching the review, I don't feel that the overall message reflects my year long experience with the car, but that of someone that's gotten the car for a day or two to review. Do your own research and don't put too much weight into this review.

    gotta say, not being a tesla fanboi but some of your facts is just simply wrong, the door has an emergency button to unlock the door.
    and your "electric realities" are just flat out wrong
    According to the cars you've put on your video from their respective prices are as follows: - all according to their website being bought brand new.
    Renault Zoe - £25,670 (according to website 245 mile range)
    Nissan Leaf - £26,345 (default model with only 168 mile range) - Nissan Leaf e+ - £35,895 (range of 239 miles)
    MG ZS EV - £22,495 (default range of 163 miles)
    Hyundai Ioniq EV - £29,450 (default range of 194 miles)
    Hyundai Kona EV - £35,100 (default range of 278 miles)
    BMW i3 - £35,350 (182-188 mile range)
    these are just the prices alone and some are drastically different to your list, I won't even go into the different types of batteries from these cars either which should also play a massive role in peoples decisions to buy an EV car (the majority of these prices from what i read was including the 3k uk grant you get for switching to an electric car).
    You can also purchase the £35000 Model 3, but there does require some tom-trickery involved to get that one over the standard range plus which requires you to get so far into the process of purchasing the standard range plus but requires you to then phone Tesla and ask for the default range, making it even more competitive with the likes of hyundai Kona and the i3 and to my understanding its the exact same as the standard range plus but some features are software coded locked to that spec, with Tesla giving you the option to then pay the difference for a Standard range plus at a later date and getting some of the features thats software locked, unlocked.
    not bashing on your review but some facts are just simply wrong and needed to be addressed as specifically the prices could have an affect on people considering purchasing a new EV.

      @@07Corcaigh All I can say is go test drive one. Is there wind noise... sure.. a little as there is no motor. Their fit and finish is fine now as they had some bumps in the road when production first started. Before I ordered mine Ive watched and read hundreds of hours of video / forums and went to a couple Tesla events and spoke with lots of people who already own a Tesla. Their reactions and everything they said about how much they love their car and still love driving it everyday was enough for me to finally make my decision.
      Listen, is it a luxury car... hell no... but comparing an all out 100% electric car with Auto pilot (That works incredibly well) to any other car in its class thats 100% all out electric... nothing comes close. Go test drive one a couple times and then tell me what you think. Im coming from spending 600$ a month on a diesel truck plus huge maintenance cost so as an Estimate car a for my business and my daily driver it was a no brainer to me.
      Now ive been in a lot of cars and its a well built car. The all wheel version handles well (only drove it in Florida) and i love what they have done on the tech side. Im a truck guy... i own a arboriculture biz and own 6 large diesels trucks from a 40 ton crane to f250's. So my maintenance and fuel cost are very costly. This suv over time will save me money and the auto pilot on 3 hours a day doing estimates will help with fatigue.
      I think if you go drive one you will be impressed... its a car thats ahead for sure.. imo

    There will be new tesla batteries that could be used for 1.2 - 1.6 Million miles before changing and the battery energy density will be improved from 250wh/kg to about 300- 350 wh /kg , which means that 20-30 percent less weight , cost and size of the battery. Suppose a 100 kWh battery costs about $10,000 then it would cost
    about $7000 in the New battery. And usually tesla runs for 257 wh / miles ( range should 389 miles if 100 kWh battery but due to loss of electricity on other things in Tesla so 370 miles is the range ) , it would decrease to 235-245wh/mile (since , robo taxis would be 222wh/mile)giving 400 miles range
    Also Elon can use extra saved space and cost to add another 20 - 30 kWh to get 500 miles range proposed for new Cybertruck but since it's a pickup truck it will need more torque which equals to more kWh , so by my calcution it would be 160 - 200kWh .And Tesla Semi lowest model will have higher kWh . Don't ask me where i got this but i can say it's assured.

    Superb review. The longer you own this car, the more you wonder how they managed to sell it for the price it is.
    Regular updates, from efficiency improvements, auto wiper accuracy, to voice controlled instructions and charging speeds/battery management, etc, mean it always improves.
    The computer/controller system, is built from the ground up, in-house. With built in redundancy (2 computers talking to each other), blistering speed........it’s an incredibly important part of the car, and maybe overlooked(?). And more redundancy on the steering, with two motors. And so-on.
    The luggage space is cavernous, but agree it would be a bit easier to access the deep recesses if it was a hatch back........although the model Y will address that.
    Anyway, I’ll be accused of being a ‘fan boy’ if I go on.
    But I am a fan.

    Shame on You - "Vegan Dance Class" right at the beginning ...
    To the subject itself: here on the continent (as one has to say again since yesterday sadly enough) servicewise Tesla has to find the steepest learning curve one can imagine. A disaster in most cases, lots of owners are put off. Same goes for quality which by no means fulfills what the price tag suggests. Car is poorly built and even more poorly designed. You mentioned the flaws of the chassis - there is a fantastic video on RUclips which explains the far too complicated construction of the underpinnings and the downpoints that come with this weak points.
    Plusses are range (for traditional battery technology) and power development, although Teslas do not like to have all that power used often and repeatedly. The "S P 100 D" can do twi sprints to 100 mph than batteroes retire and power is down to less than 500 bhp instead of 730ish. So much for that.
    Looks good nevertheless - from the outside.

    • @rogerstarkey5390
      @rogerstarkey5390 4 года назад

      You mean Sandy Munro, and he mentioned complication, not "weak points".
      If you look at the Model Y chassis (essentially the same) that's been fixed.
      He also "mentioned" the ten fold reduction in wiring, with more to come (great for reliability!) and over the sir upgrades constantly improving the car at no cost.
      "Repeated acceleration"?
      Read what you said.
      When was the last time you did "two sprints to 100 mph"? (No problem with that btw)
      Model S cars have no issues at a dragstrip doing repeated runs all night.
      "The batteries retire to less than *500* HP? Really)
      You haven't watched the Model 3 24 hour endurance record then? Running at over 220 kph on the autobahn?
      If you're going to try FUD, research first.
      Sad.

      @@rogerstarkey5390 Though, perhaps, not at that *precise* moment unless you really, really trust Autopilot.... It does raise a good point though, when you not only change something as fundamental to current design as one of the stalks operating the wipers but replace said function with something else (especially something that controls movement!) that kinda needs to be made very, very clear before you're put behind the wheel. Preferably with neon arrows and warning buzzers.

    It's surprising how many people are of the opinion that Tesla make bad cars.
    Tesla are now the world second biggest car manufacturer by market capital. They are bigger than the combination of Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, ŠKODA, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini & Porsche.
    It's hard to imagine how that can be if these opinions are right but much easier to imagine if they are wrong.

    I'm an era of sales based reviews (Drivetribe I'm looking at you) it's really refreshing to see a review from a driver's point of view. Even Clarkson, Hammond and May ended up giving reviews of cars at flat out on racetracks, something must of us will never do. Consumers always want brass tacks, the details that we will live with every day we our cars. So a massive thank you for adopting honesty as your first call. Now if we can just get dealerships to trade this way. Elon Musk hides nothing, and wouldn't disagree with this review I'm sure. He had started something that will always evolve though. This is today's Model 3 and has only just give into mass production. The mind boggles at what the look, price and tech will be like by just 2024.

    I always felt tesla makes a fun toy but not a great car. I drove in a model s. Yes the instant speed was cool and the other silly things. But it's like cool for a bit. As a Car though it really was just so ordinary. There's always a sense that it's not a car worth it's money and that all the money just goes into the batteries. Adding a large screen and software doesn't make a good car. You can pretty much entertain anyone with software. But the actual car hardware part is what makes the experience more worthwhile for me.

    Having to move your head to the side to see the speed your doing is stupid and dangerous no matter how much you get used to it, the interior of this thing is garbage, way to dependent on the screen. There’s nothing to love about the interior, no features, no interesting design features, nothing.
    Also, there’s no redundancy in this thing, if the screen fails, what then? You’re done, can’t really drive it, can’t operate anything. I mean what’s wrong with proper vents and buttons that just work ?

      Your going too much about the interior but I guess years of being seeing commercials emphasizing one of the least important part about a car will do that, the screen can fail and the car will still drive, they also have voice commands, and next time you think about buttons or knobs in a car just imagine using a flip phone instead of a smart phone.
