9:01 "...should you choose to INVEST your money..." Interesting choice of words there. Wouldn't consider buying a car as an investment, unless we're talking antique cars. That's another story. Great video. Thanks for doing this. I just canceled my Cybetruck order.
While very few vehicles are an appreciating asset, I’ve heard plenty of people refer to “investing” in quality tools/appliances/cars/etc. in the sense that putting money in now will yield lower maintenance, better efficiency/performance, improved experience, etc. down the line versus an alternative. And I don’t see anyone using a CyberTruck as a company vehicle in its current state, work pickups and vans are investments in that allow a business to generate money over a service life.
The breaking “performance” is absolutely terrible. This car is not only a death trap but a danger to anybody nearby. (And I didn’t even start with the giant blind spots!)
Yet the best selling electric truck selling more electric trucks than all other electric trucks being sold. And that within 1 year. You also know that Elon and his team sort these issues out in no time and also have the best customer experience of all car manufacturers also the most loyal customers. And that all without marketing. Seems like they do something right.
As a software guy with a background in working on nuclear instrumentation (which is built for redundancy and protective features with voting criteria to eliminate single-point failures)... this really makes me LMAO. The whole "Did you try turning it off and back on again?" treatment for digital errors is because spurious signals and logic flips can (and do) happen in every digital system (On average cosmic rays flip about 4 bits *per GB* of RAM per month). The idea of turning it off and on again is built on the idea that random faults are unavoidable but also don't re-occur. So, you should _always_ reset a system once, and if the problem comes back, THEN you call an IT professional and pursue troubleshooting. The fact that people are running into the same errors on different systems, but also in a semi-random fashion, really speaks to how terribly the system is designed and built. If they were simpler errors, the results would be more consistent and a solution would be more forthcoming. Either Musk really hires "the best people", or Musk really has a knack for making his employees so angry that they're all sabotaging different systems independently.
I watched a Mentour Pilot video (I think it’s the one where the commercial airplane didn’t crash) where the pilots reported the indicator light on, and having a similar protocol (an indicator light can have a work report filed, but a redundancy is assumed) and the plane was restarted and the indicator light didn’t come back on. And then it happened again the next flight . . . And then everyone onboard got really lucky including the skilled pilots that managed to land the plane when things went sideways. Your explanation made me think of that story.
So when you are driving in the desert and your computer craps out and all the sudden you are in limp mode with no AC baking to death in a steel dumpster rolling at four miles an hour will the Cybertruck still be cool?
Like the suspension, it's unnecessarily complex and just adds more potential points of failure (and cost to make). Tesla does not know trucks or people who buy trucks.
I wonder how you get it on the tow truck if the steering is locked in at an angle but you cannot get them straight if steering is disabled. Very thoughtful design.
I own a 2015 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X with over 112,000 miles. It's been through blizzards and Las Vegas summers and many trips in the Mohave Desert. Zero issues so far other than a crack in the A/C condenser, fixed under warranty. No recalls.
These things are beyond embarrassing. Shockingly it seems like not very many people know how badly botched this launch was. If Tesla wants to continue to tout amazing next-gen tech they need to prove that it works and that it is durable. It's as if they built a prototype and then decided that the prototype should go into production without any further tweaks.
They developed this monstrosity over 7 years. It seems they spend a lot of time on the back of a tow truck and are horribly engineered. The steering failures seem incredibly dangerous and will surely cause a bunch of accidents. The crazy thing is there aren't too many on the road and so many are already broken.
lol its not botched at all lol. this is how EVERY TESLA launch goes due to them selling the most expensive versions first. and just because you see one on here breaking down doesn't automatically mean its a botched launch lol If you hate Elon because of his politics or whatever or you just don't want to see your coal car die out then say that. but spouting false information is just dumb. Also if Teslas are such shit why do they sell so well? vehicles that are shit dont sell in any other capacities worldwide. So you believe Tesla would invest in building the other versions of Cybertruck if they didn't make $$ on it? lol you just sound like a hater honestly. By your logic then toyota tundras are trash and it was a botched launch lol since you know tons of the engines are failing on brand new tundras lol Funny how you wont mention that but you will shit on Tesla lol

While that is quite impressive for a multi-ton truck with ginormous wheels contributing to massive sprung weight, it is not "beating a 911 while towing a 911," and claiming so with a straight face just made Tesla look like a pack of liars.
I got that error in my Model X, dont worry, Tesla replaced the battery for free, then it burned down within hours after I picked it up from service center. It burns for hours so make sure you don't park it inside! :)
Never buy a new vehicle the year it comes out. It usually takes a couple of years for the manufacturer to identify and eliminate the bugs. In the case of the Cybertruck I can only imagine how complicated that can be with an all new type of vehicle using completely different materials and manufacturing techniques. In my lifetime I made that mistake with Ford, Buick, VW, and finally learned my lesson with Saturn. GM were smart enough to wait until the bugs from the Saturn were gone before introducing the same car as a Chev Cruise which sold very well for many years.
I own a Cruze and waited a year do they could work out the bugs. It’s a solid car with the exception of the cooling system which has had major problems. I’ve had to spend some serious money to fix it.
Imagine a truck being this delayed only for it to still act like it was rushed. It is such a colossal failure of a vehicle that the only thing Tesla did right was to not put their own logo on it.
I saw my first one up-close today. It's bigger than in the pictures. The tires are huge, and with those treads I'm surprised it isn't noisy. It was being used as a work truck. I suppose if you plan to stay in a localized area it would work out. On the flip side, it's still ugly.
Just seen where a guy does contracting and saves $65 a day by charging at night over his gas RAM. A contractor of some sort. There is a class of people it will not work for. Where more range is needed.
I drove a Model S for a week. 4,9 seconds to 62 has never felt so slow. It's quick off course but it's so boring to accelerated them compared to a manual sports car. Now I drive an old Leaf for my daily driving and a classic car for fun.

Its comedy gold how Edmund is explaining how nice the cybertruck drives on the street all while the screen keeps flashing red error warnings and the cybertruck is basically crawling at a snail's pace. Please don't drive this faulty death trap on the street and endanger other people.
From the sounds of things, something in the steer-by-wire system failed a diagnostic self-test. At first, the diagnostic system had confidence in the vehicle being controllable, while in limp mode. A second component failed a self-test, which prompted the vehicle to stop moving. That it occurred twice, with the first instance being resolved by a restart, identifies it as an 'intermittent fault' which will be a devil to diagnose. Possible issues include a bad electrical connection, or a cold solder joint. Both of those issues are easy to miss.
or maybe the firmware and or software is set too sensitive maybe some of those issues could be fixed with a patch, think maybe all trucks are set with the exact same default settings without considering small difference between individual cars. just a theory since this vehicle is pretty new. for example some processors might work with lower voltage while other with a worse bin won't. personally to even consider getting a car like that i would need a ( i do not care , i know what i am doing override ) that overrides everything except maybe the battery caching fire.
🤣🤣🤣 In 2000 I had one of the first four electric RAV4's. One day a turtle appeared on the dash. I called the mothership, and learned I was in deep trouble. Toyota had me park it and call a taxi (this was way pre-Uber), and they sent a flatbed the next day. But. That was the only real problem I had in the full year I drove it - other than being late frequently because people were curious about it.
I really appreciate the review, even though I will never buy a Cybertruck. Edmunds is my go-to for researching cars before purchase. Keep up the great work! Could not agree more that the cybertruck is faster than it needs to be! But I'll take it a step further--it's faster than can be used in daily driving in normal traffic. Track testing a cybertruck is about as relevant as track testing a Ferrari. Track days are something 99.9% of people will never do.Sure, closed-circuit testing is about the only way you can test certain handling characteristics safely, but standing water, black ice, potholes and other road hazards are things that happen when you aren't expecting them. I wish there was a way to test how cars handle under those circumstances. How good will a cybertruck be at avoiding accidents in a city? On a narrow rural one-track? How does the drive-by wire handle sudden, jerky inputs? Etc.
I’ve noticed a trend in recent years: Star Wars can put out failure after failure and the people in charge of the failures do not change course or lose their job. The MCU has churned out a similarly low quality string of products and the people in charge remain. Tesla can put out this frankly *irresponsibly* dangerous vehicle, and yet there are still those who praise this unacceptable product and defend its designer without a hint of sarcasm. And I don’t need to even delve too deep into what’s going on with the Republican candidate right now. For some reason, we are at a point where there can be incredibly bad, even harmful, choices made by powerful people/companies/entities in repeat and long term, yet somehow they remain.
Why do you think it is irresponsible dangerous?... As far as I know it has been tested quite extensively with a 5 star rating for safety.. A lot safer than these super duty big barndoor size front grill trucks where the driver cant see anything right in front of them.. this HAS killed dozens of children already, and nobody is talking about that. Tesla could provide the NHTSA with a Cybertruck to test at Tesla's expense but has not elected to do so. One of those recalls was because the accelerator pedal was able to come loose in normal operation causing it to become stuck in the down position.

Etc.
