My uncles and my dad regularly watched "Play School" in the 1960s and the 1970s. It was almost a religion to them.
I decided to ask my dad who his top 5 favourite presenters were as a child, he said,
    5. Johnny Ball
    4. Julie Stevens
    3. Diane Dorgan
    2. Derek Griffiths
    1. Brian Cant or Toni Arthur
I think that shows how well recieved Toni was in terms of the programme. Being placed alongside a living legend like Brian Cant. He always says Brian was his favourite, but when I asked him about his top selection of presenters, he couldn't not place Toni alongside him.
It's fantastic to see that Toni is still doing well. Hopefully that still applies for her today. The most recent that I heard from her was when she, the fantastic Floella Benjamin and a very terminally ill Brian Cant all did a BBC Radio reunion in 2010.

I had some issues as a child (Mum and Dad splitting in 1972 when I was 8 years old etc ) but the telly (3 channels were GREAT) for us kids who; hardly ate anything and spent as much time as possible 'outdoors' with our friends in all weathers! I am pretty sure I fancied Toni Arthur as soon as I was 8 years old , (AND STILL DO) aged 59! dx

i loved Toni Arthur, i still do. I still listen to the albums she made with her then husband Dave Arthur. Even as a small child I remember being captivated by her beauty, her energy and her positivity…although back then I probably didn’t know what any of those things were… i just knew i wanted to marry her when i grew up.

It didn’t even touch on her career as a folk singer in the 60s.

she is a buddhist i think. although she dabbled with paganism and Wicca in the late 60’s.. prior to making an album about it with her then husband Dave Arthur.
