We used to watch take hart after school n the main thing we watched was the gallery (n morph) n we’d av competition with my brothers in Liverpool to see who’d b the same age as the kid who painted the picture the most “I’m 9 !!” “I’m 7!!” was all you’d hear, thanks 4 this. Made a middle aged 52 yr old guy happy

As a kid who watched this first time rounfd when aired. Myself and my sister were mesmerised by this show. Indeed it was one of the big shows watched by millions of kids with their parents. I think we (the kids) loved Tony as he actually spoke to us, not down to or at us.A real class guy and immensely talented.
Like wise as a child growing up it was great to watch this show learnt so much from Tony hart, sadly I have not seen a show like it since. Tony hart was a very remarkable artist, he had a gentle approach and children and parents love it show and then you had morph and the dragon each week getting into mischief. Sadly I think morph was destroyed recently the original from tony hart show.
Watching Take Hart was always an oasis of calm in the middle of a school week - it was usually on Wednesdays as I recall. Tony was such a gentleman even when Morph was being a perisher.
What a lovely man! It’s down to his shows that I ended up at art college, studying design. His pastel and spray paint stencil techniques are pure product design rendering techniques! A much missed TV presenter, artist and gentleman!

This was the time of miners stikes, oil crisis, terrorism on aircraft, power cuts, rising unemployment, the end of the Vietnam war, the IRA and troubles in NI at it's peak.

Looking back, I learned techniques from Tony Hart that I went on to use years later with the kids I taught. I think I must have subconsciously remembered so many of his wonderful ideas.
Rewatching Morph and all Tony Hart programmes as an adult artist studying animation. I grew up watching his shows. Mr Hart was and always will be one of my biggest inspirations.
Love this show. Watched it as a kid living in the English countryside near Banbury and Upper Heyford and Feltwell. My parents were USAF and we lived on a base that was join ventured with RAF families as well. It was such an amazing chemistry of the two cultures back then and this was the type of shows that we watched.
Lovely programme, someone had a morph figure on their desk, they've thrown it out, so I took him out the bin, he's on my shelf now, nice bit of nostalgia

I remember coming home from school and waiting for this programme to begin. It was really the theme music I was waiting on. I think they were xylophones but I'm not certain of that.

Many thanks for posting. Simple ideas presented clearly so that everyone could understand & then try out themselves at home. Tony Hart was perfect for this particular program. He was always very precise with his hand movements when producing his artwork too.
Thanks for the upload. Takes me right back to my childhood and reminds me how much inspiration his programme always gave me then and for many years afterwards. A wonderful presenter, sadly missed but fondly remembered.
Take Hart was one of my favourite programs as a child. There was so much to learn from it. I used to decorate plain T-shirts by pulling one over a plastic tray, lay down some [negative image] patters and stencils made from whatever suitable material I could find (e.g. wax paper) and spraying it with successive applications of diluted bleach. When washed the remaining pattern stood out with crisp clean edges, and it even allowed for half tones. While adult supervision wasn't really a big thing back in those days, it's nonetheless recommended.
He did love those marker pens! My favourite 'TV teacher' when I was little. Such a reassuring voice. Loved Morph too, vividly remember playing with my Morph sticker album whilst recovering in bed from mumps!

Could you imagine if Tony Hart and Bob Ross could have swapped places for long enough to produce one episode of each other's programme? To know that neither of them are no longer with us has me choking back real tears T_T

Couldn't help but notice the Bourée like tune that starts at 4:38. Must be something by Jethro Tull, yet I can't place it. I wish they had programs like this States side!! Growing up in the sixties, all we had was Romper Room, Wonderama and Captain Kangeroo. All great shows (well, RR was abit tame/lame), but nothing this art focused. Thanks for posting!! 👍👍
steve gordon --- Nonsense, look at the presenters through the 80s and 90s, they were just kids themselves, in their early 20s. You just didn't realise because you were a small kid. There's plenty of inspiring stuff for kids on the BBC nowadays.
Matt Etheridge --- Kids don't grow up brainwashed, they are a product of their times, just as we were and look where that got us... Getting on here criticising the youth of today is something you'd have been appalled that your parent were doing when you were a kid. Our kids today a a lot more open minded than our generation ever were, with regards to race, sexism, homophobia etc. It's our generation and the previous few that have ruined the country for the youth.
I remember this show as a young child, the gallery music left memories of the 1970’s. I always thought he reminded me of a very serious Benny Hill character.

Brilliant, 4 minutes in he's made clear points about negative space and referenced Magritte. Brilliant.

I used to love watching Take Hart and Hartbeat (note the spelling). Heartbeat is a more recent 1960s police drama.

I saw Tony Hart not long before he died, in a wheelchair looking very frail. Sad to see, but what a talented decent bloke.
