- The wonderful Tony Hart creates a beautiful rendering of Stonehenge in under four minutes, using chalk pastels and a thick marker pen.
Is there anything quite so satisfying as watching a master at work?

The BBC should create a series for BBC4 with short clips of Tony creating his pictures especially with the Bob Ross episodes proving so popular. Very soothing voice that really takes me back and his pictures look a bit easier to have a go at although that's probably a reflection of how good he was
AGREED.
Our own Bob Ross
That's a great idea.
I loved watching Tony when I was younger. He's still extremely watchable now.
I was thinking of Bob Ross too.
I’d definitely watch that.
They are too busy box ticking now and having men in dresses on Eastenders
I was never any good at art but Tony Hart made me believe I could be. Thank you Tony
He always made it look do easy 😊
Very happy memories, what a great guy and show
My God this takes me back to my childhood. Great memories.
A gentleman and a true childhood inspiration. I suspect his true legacy will never be quantified but it exists in a generation.
Tony Hart was a class act. I loved watching Hart Beat when I was a child. I just wish my own children had something as good as this. Tony Hart created simple, but lovely pieces of art, while explaining interesting things like how pastels are made. Compare this to the bloody awful ‘Mr Maker’! There’s been a real dumbing down with children’s television.
Tony's voice reminds me of the cosiness of coming home after school and falling asleep on the sofa until I'd hear the equally nostalgic sound of "Tea's ready!" from my Mum.
He really was a unique sort of presenter: never patronising, never talked down to his audience, knew art should and could be fun and made you want to do it out of school. An old school giant of a man - a stroke robbed him of his ability to draw, a terribly cruel twist of fate. Such a good man.
Such a talented guy, a true TV legend of my childhood... and one without any scandal or disgrace! which is refreshing to see.
Always enjoyed coming home from school and watching the BBC line up of kids TV...
Jackanory, Blue Peter, Crackerjack, Captain Caveman.... even John Craven's newsround was entertaining!
where's that time machine?... i'd love to go back just for a day to see if it really was better than today!..i'm sure it was, even the Cadbury Creme eggs seemed to be bigger than my head!
Good times growing up !
I often say I wish I had a time machine to take me back to the 60's and 70's, life was much nicer, and yes cadbury's creme eggs and a lot of other things were bigger, now everything keeps getting smaller but the price gets bigger.
Tony was a true genius when it came to showing kids how to draw or how art can be fun
And around the world!
Loved watching his show on Friday afternoons in the late '80s-'90s
Tony Hart inspired my dad when dad met him in the late 1960s. When I was old enough, and his show was running on kid's TV, my dad encouraged me to watch it and learn from him. He had a talent for making things simple and fun, and I wished he was my art teacher at school sometimes! RIP Tony.
Im surprised the ASMR crowd aren’t all over this, he has a lovely voice.
We are here, lurking in the shadows
Magic.
Absolutely wonderful. What a talented artist to make something so beautiful in under five minutes. Very soothing voice too!
Wonderful memories from watching this talented gent back in the 80s. Thankyou for being an amazing role model and inspiration from the 80s kids Tony!
Pure Genius missed by us all
Brilliant artist and presenter.
A gentle voice from a better time...
Brilliant artist and a wonderful man. I watched him from his Vision On days as a child through to his later years with my own children. Such a talent!!
Rest in peace Tony, you always mesmerized me when i watched you when i was a kid. The way you would give subtle clues as to what you were creating, ahh i miss those days.
Morecambe and Wise, Abbott and Costello,Laurel and Hardy,Cannon and Ball and Tony and Morph...
Nice that he drew Stonehenge to Spinal Tap scale.
Am very glad I had my childhood back then. What wonderful days they were and such high quality TV programmes. Was a very different world.
Tony Hart inspired entire generation of artists with his passion for art. How many of you out there know that he was also the artist that designed the Blue Peter boat. 😉
I can smell this picture. The paper, the pastel dust, and the sharp marker smell.
I've admired Tony's artistry since the 'Vision On' years.
My hero and influence.
Tony hart was genius ! He made art look so simple even though it is not.
What an inspirational genius this man was. He rarely taught you how to do something. Instead he showed you and left it up to you to develop the idea in your own way.
Takes me back…
My childhood was Tony Hart great artist and great inspiration on me as an artist myself and still drawing at the age of 48 great 80's Kids TV👍👍👍👍
Him and Rolf Harris were my art heroes growing up. Sadly, the latter's legacy is forever tarnished, but I still have Tony Hart.
Instead of taking kids TV off air show this! And all the other quality stuff you've got squirrelled away in the archives doing nothing.
This is the BBC remember. It will end up on Brit box if anything at all
@@MrDirkles Thought they'd pulled out of that? Or will do when ITV hub goes ITV X?
I'm glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's to see this. Nowadays most kids are glued to the likes of Tik Tok and FB without showing much of an interest in being creative, shame.
Wonderful memories!
Oh he is what made my childhood special, loved the programme and have so many fond memories 😊 plus he didn’t do anything wrong or scandal. Wonder what happened after he finished TV?

The Attenborough of Art
I'll never forget when he died, ''Tony Hart's funeral has been pencilled in for Tuesday'' ;)
He looks a bit like the Queen. Ha! These clips are really excellent! Thanks Beebs! 😎
very lucky to have watched his programmes when younger
well done with this one bbc
thankyou 🙂

We are sorry that we cannot return any of the pictures.
But we do give a prize for any that are shown.
I sent something into this show for the Gallery once. Didn't get shown.
This show is where Morpheus from The Matrix got the idea for his name.
Stonehenge... Where the demons dewell... And the Banshees live (and they do live well)
What's happened to BBC? Look at the standard then and cr*p now. 😢
A "gentleman" who did a lot for children who were deaf. Never liked harris. Loved morph though ! RIP SIR❤❤
I'm lovin the chance to see some of the creative talents of the late great Tony Hart, seriously missed and videos on RUclips are very nice (if overdue), but I don't want to be a Negative Nigel and lower the tone, but I can't help think, and this is only my opinion and something I thought about when I was watching this, Rolf really sodded it up for anyone else who wanted to do anything arty, and I could hear Tony try to come up with a different way of saying 'Do you know what it is yet?'. Great upload. R.I.P. Tony Hart
Tony Hart used to be a Gurkha! They were very brave soldiers, many of them were Sikhs. They fought extremely bravely for the Allies during the Second World War.
As a child watching "Hartbeat" in the 80s, I always waited for 'Morph" to appear. I never appreciated how much of a genius Tony Hart was.
Dear BBC, can Jim fix it for me to have the next video be a Rolf Harris painting video?
Use to watch this after school!
Then at the end of program it showed you kids artwork with their name and age! We used to say No way did I 10 yr old draw that! lol
Good old days
When he pulled out that fat marker I thought he was going to show us some graff tags that he's been working on or throwing up round town.
Gorgeous television. The absolute power of the medium. He was a genius.
These scenes on Hartbeat were some of my favourites moments of TV as a child.
RIP Tony Hart. He was truly a talented artist.
Tony Hart was such a gem back in the day and I used to watch Hartbeat when I was young.
I miss this.
One of my great regrets in life is I never got to shake this mans hand. He made making art and appreciating it accessible in a way few other have.
Why don'y we put a little old stone tree right here....
I wish Bob Ross appeared on this show.
Thank you, Auntie. Thank you,Tony.
Love Tony Hart. Our very own Bob Ross
Bless him Tony Hart and Bob Harris
Where is Morph?
Eating pastel dust
I saw this the first time round.
Bloody good picture that.
More Tony Hart, please!
Where the banshees live, and they do live well.
it never gets old
What a talented man.
When you want ASMR but British
Wonderful
Wow magic
Fantastic
Loved Tony Hart
Why can't we have the full episode?
There are quite a lot of full episodes on youtube. Sometimes in 2 or 3 parts, but there's plenty.
Tony
I remember this one.
My youth right there
Can i hear Guinea pigs?
Loved him as a kid,
Genius
God bless ya Tony…. No idea you was gay when I was young…. Wasn’t life so simple in those days .. play away lol
Eh? He was married to the same woman for 50 years
@@LookatmeimSandraDee Which is also quite common for gay folk of that era.
Give all the thanks you can that Tony Hart wasn’t a nonce.
Thanks for being a good person Tony.
That pastel would have absolutely ruined that marker pen. It was probably Gabriel’s, she’ll be furious!
An amazing artist who was teaching kids as he went about all sorts. These shows aren't around anymore, it's a shame. I loved this growing up, I was 8 years old in 1987, I'd give anything to go back there even if just for a day.
