to be fair, scottish country dancing doesn't involve the heel at all, so an scd dancer who wants a challenge or huge calves could do it all on their toes too
Yes instead of P.E we had dance lessons at my high school in pre Christmas lessons because our school Christmas dance was first half Scottish dancing then after a break the disco. I think more boys danced in the first half than the second. So much fun.
My friend was a hired DJ during college one time and he said he literally got dizzy watching dancers doing this. I miss my good friend. Rest in peace my friend.
@@ScottishCountryDancing I'm sorry, I couldn't find a clip of that here on RUclips, and I actually got the name of the movie wrong (sorry!) The movie was made in 1961 and it is actually called "On the Double". Kaye plays the role of an American GI in WW2 who has to impersonate a British (Scottish) General and his attempt to take part in a Scottish dance, in a kilt barely kept under control, is one of the funniest scenes in the movie. I would definitely recommend checking the movie out from the library if you've never seen it :)
@@TheJoyfulEye yes well when I looked it up I thought you must have meant On The Double! Anyway I’m glad you brought my attention to it, I will look it up. Thanks! 🤩
I have Scottish heritage. I love Scottish/ Gaelic music. And I also love dancing. I love to watch guys in kilts dancing. I’m also intrigued by country dancing because it’s different than the usual dances in the USA. I just found your channel today and subscribed. Looking forward to watching your videos.

Great dancing! I can see where a lot of our American Square dance moves came from. I see you all are short in men too over there, lol! I don't know about how it is over there, but you can't hardly find a dance over here.....at least not very close.
We have quite a few dances around us in Scotland but live where several towns run classes and dances. You have much wider area to travel in the USA! Even far away in Scotland isn’t that far in comparison 😊
The girl in the red dress has to be an experienced Highland dancer. Look how she does everything on her toes.
You are indeed correct 🎉
😅😅😅 Yes, but I more like other dancers.

In September we are invited to a Scottish wedding, outside. I hope someone is there to do the dancing. Mitlooks beautiful…and fun!
That’s so exciting! I hope you will get to do some dancing, I think it’s very likely!
We used to do all these at school in winter instead of outdoor games.
Super! 😊
Yeah, yes!....awesome....

As a life long dancer I was extremely impressed with the complexity of the choreography! Brilliant. Thx for sharing. Loved it
Thank you so much!
Very well performed! Enjoyed the dance and seeing these folks having fun enjoying their heritage. Kindness, Teresa
It's so joyful.
Similarities to what colonists referred to as the Virginia Reel. Excellent. Fun to watch. Thank you.
Sometimes we dance the Virginia Reel at our Ceilidhs too

Condolences. Yes, I got dizzy too. I'd be lost if I tried that!
I've done a bit of country dancing, mostly at music camp and while visiting Australia.
I had a rehearsal for a dance this evening an hour ago and thins was the hardest dance. Incredibly impressing
Wonderful to see these old traditions being maintained.
Very fun to watch. In this violent drugged up world we live in it's wonderful to see people bringing joy to others.
Danny Kaye takes this to a whole new level in "Double Time" :)
Ooh sorry to say I had to look that all up - can you send a link to that clip? He looks hilarious 😂

thank you that's very kind :)
you should go to the RSCDS branch finder and join your nearest local ceilidh
The girl in the red dress is a beautiful dancer, perfectly pointed toes.
She obviously has had many lessons in Highland Dancing.
I see many things in common w/ square dancing...which is part of where square dancing came from....😊
I saw the same similarities, reminded me of when I took square dance lessons decades ago. It was a blast!
Loved this!
Thank you! Check out our other videos if you fancy it 😊
Beautifully done, Everyone!!

Wow that’s great. I’d love to hear the story behind the half Irish/Native American couple! So interesting 😊
I think most of us whose families have lived here for a few generations can qualify for the mutt description. I sure can!
Thank you!!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching :D

Super ❤
Thank you 🤩 we love it
We learned these dances in school as part of the curriculum
That’s so lovely ☺️
Let’s dance a jig shall we!
Yes come along!
Очень красивый танец, приятные мужчины и изящные дамы. Лайк разумеется и Або.
Thank you, if google translate is correct :D
This looks rather complicated 👌
This looks a lot like square dancing in the USA.
How do they track of who they are supposed to be with at any given time?
Haha lots of practice! 💕💃🏼
It’s a good workout!

einfach suuuuuuper
This looks similar to American square dancing
0:13 is when it starts (for taking notes)
I can trim it if it’s better

Bonnie wee Jeannie McCall
ES LA DANZA IRIS.
You have this dance as well?
Классно......
why are the men wearing dresses?
It’s a traditional Scottish kilt!
Kilts are worn with shirts. So they are not dresses. They are usually worn for special occasions and formal events
And since there’s often a gender disparity in attendees some women dance in men’s positions for some dances
Nothing promoting sex or even subtely hinting at it, makes it clean and sanctified!!!
Alzheimers ? Never heard of it !
wow it seems like everybody would get dizzy from going around in circles
Yes I sometimes do but perhaps with a different dance… you should check out our others! 😂
ook’aye! 😉🏴
