    I think a more "fair" comparison would have been the Lucid Pure AWD model. Still better range and performance but more price competitive and you could forego the extended glass for a solid metal roof.

    "Hallasan is a shield volcano on Jeju Island in South Korea and it is the highest point of South Korea. The area around the mountain is a designated national park, the Hallasan National Park. Hallasan is commonly considered to be one of the three main mountains of South Korea, along with Jirisan and Seoraksan."
    Huh, that's pretty cool. The divine green paint color is named after a national park.

    I think Lucid makes the nicest EV, has a beautiful design with an engineering first approach, and is arguably the nicest luxury sedan of any manufacturer right now.

    Very interesting compare and contrast video. I like both but gotta say the Lucid seems quite compelling for an entirely new company and model. Hopefully they can get the production and any quality or fitment issues sorted which may solidify them as a big hitter in the EV segment.

    No EV will get the advertised range driving the way most people drive. The Air _can_ do it, but only if you are super efficient. The thing with Lucid's range is that it doesn't leave you driving like grandpa, hoping you can make it to the next charger.
    Anything with a battery charges more quickly when it is almost empty and more slowly as if fills. I have the GT version with the larger battery. On road trips I can drive very inefficiently while still having adequate range, but the real trick comes with the charging. On the road i will usually stop charging by 70%, while the battery is still charging quickly. this provides 2-2.5 hours of drive time to the next charger and the car is ready when I get back from a bio-break, getting some sodas, or whatever. Basically, for me that means no waiting for the charge unless I'm over 200 miles from the next charger.
    On shorter trips (Dallas to Little Rock, 300+ miles) I can easily make that without charging if I want to, passing several chargers on the way.

    Lucid is definitely an interesting take on ev but I've heard some complaints about it. I haven't driven the Lucid so I can't comment on it personally - but the Genesis g80 electrified is beautiful and so pleasant to drive. Fun to drive in sport mode.

    The G80e has a 10.8 cu ft trunk with no folding rear seats while the Air has a 10 cu ft FRUNK on top of the 16.1 cu ft trunk which if you fold down the rear seats turns into 23.23 cu ft. I mostly prefer the G80e but that is a deal breaker. You can put a compact spare tire and tools in the Air sub frunk.

    That's a tough comparison. Hyundai has been building cars for over 60 years and they have production down to a science at this point. With cheap parts, and can get them serviced in way more places than Lucid. So from convenience stand point, Genesis would be a more logical choice. But you if you like to try new things and have money to burn, then Lucid is the choice. Honestly, over time, Lucid will get better but question is, how long? This is the question.

      10 months later, and the Air Pure is now cheaper than the Genesis ($69,900 vs $74,375), still has more power, and if you get it with the 19” wheels, has over 400 miles of range. That’s for a trim without the glass roof or leather though, and the Genesis options are far less expensive.

    I actually prefer a car designed as an ICE car that gets modified to be an EV.
    The EV makers refuse to give us the size and shape of car we want.
    The Genesis had to succeed as an ICE before it had to succeed as an EV.

    • @EVPulse

      Lucids design has function. EVs designed properly should achieve low drag coefficient for better efficiency and maximize interior space for practicality while minimizing overall footprint. It's more than just slapping a battery pack to your favorite ICE car design.

    • @blakespringpasturemortimer9168
      @blakespringpasturemortimer9168 Год назад +1

      I'm not sure who the "we" is that doesn't want the size and shape of EVs. The Tesla Model Y, which no one would confuse with an ICE vehicle, is the top selling car in the world right now.
      The size and shape of car I want is a mid-size sedan with the interior space of a Mercedes S Class or BMW 7 Series. You get that from a Lucid which leverages the small size of an electric powertrain to pull of packaging miracles in the passenger cabin and cargo areas. Dropping an EV powertrain into an ICE chassis is a colossal waste of space and can be a sump for aerodynamic drag.

    Comparing apples and oranges is hard to do. When you choose a much higher end Lucid, instead of the more comparable Pure, then the decision people make on your video comes down to price. Perhaps you should know your product before making a compare video. First and last time viewer.

      Ah yes, entitlement’s little brother: rudeness. This is the touring and it’s one trim above the bottom trim which is the pure. Looks like the upgrades are roof, paint and tires. The genesis doesn’t really have much in the way of options. So yes, they are priced differently but even the pure is 30k higher than the fully spec’d g80.
      Also, do you think this guy went out and bought both cars? The dealers or manufacturers loan out cars for reviewing purposes and you don’t get much say in what you get.

    • @EVPulse
      @EVPulse  Год назад +3

      @@cheefussmith9380 Also, one car had everything working in it, and the other didn't. It's quite possible *some* buyers might care about that. Price doesn't buy reliability.

  • @Cruor34

    The G80 lost me on less power than a $52,000 Model 3 Performance and less range, even accounting for Tesla overstating range. Lucid needs to bring down it's prices to compete with Tesla. Yes the interior is nicer, but it's not worth the insane premium on price. Both need to try harder or lower prices.
    As for the review you did no 0-60 test (yes, people care) and you just repeated the manufactures range which is always overstated, you did not do a real world test. Also, wouldn't the 82k Air Pure be a more accurate comparison?

    • @EVPulse
      @EVPulse  Год назад

      To address your second points. 1) We have access to the vehicles we have access to. We could've just not done the video. 2) We only have a certain amount of time, so we hit what the majority of people care about. We have real-world data that suggests 0-60 performance is low on the buying consideration scale.
      Thank you for taking the time to comment, and sorry this video didn't cover everything you'd like to see in a video. We'll aim to do better next time.
