      He's just upset because his car was killed off years ago by GM. Ironically, one of the reasons for it's demise is because the cost of the dinosaur juice that he cherishes so much was what turned people away from Pontiac some years ago.

    • @tedunguent156
      @tedunguent156 Год назад +3

      @@guambombboy Your "explanation" is an over-simplification of what was going on at GM at that time. It is far more complicated than that. The G8 was actually a last ditch effort to bring performance back to the brand using a rear wheel drive platform exported from Australia. I think if they tried selling the UTE model alongside the G8 it would have sold in bigger numbers.

They make it clear in investor documents, interviews, and earnings report comments that they remain focused on build quality and the driving experience over volume of production and price point.

    Nice review. I received my Air GT almost a year ago and have been impressed with how the initially buggy software has steadily improved with a constant stream of OTA updates. Now with the system working well getting each new update feels like opening a present with some new audio or charging feature appearing.
    I enjoy driving and this is a driver's car. On a number of trips from the boring roads of the D/FW area to more mountainous regions, I have enjoyed how effortlessly the Lucid eats miles while having the range to get away from the freeway to enjoy some more challenging routes. Drive modes in the Air change more than accelerator sensitivity. At speed in Sprint mode the suspension and steering tighten up while the TC relaxes a bit. I appreciate that the brakes are not over-boosted, providing excellent feel, if a very firm pedal. Steering is neutral and will gently understeer at the limit (which most 'reasonable' drivers will never approach).
    Ordering a Lucid with the white carpet? Order Lucid's fitted weather mats at the same time. Even here in Texas rain and mud can be a thing sometimes.

    Lucid feels like a company designed to get through a SPAC, but after that, it is not low cost to produce, they had software issues, the ramp up has gone poorly, their wait list has been dropping hard, and other issues, just feel like it is not a solid company. The Saudi's have 61% of the company and I suspect they will eat up the rest of it in the next couple of years,
    For consumers, I would be concerned about service. It is a small company by industry standards. Large or small, all EV builders seem to have trouble providing great service when needed. GM dealers have been known to have just one EV tech for a few dealerships. I also read a story about having to go through three Ford dealers before finding one who could work on a Mach-E. We are starting to move from just early adopters to mainstream buyers. The industry needs to get service ramped up quick to meet demand.

    I could never afford one, but it's at the top of my wish list. Really love just about everything about the Lucid Air GT. Looking on the Lucid Motors site, the 21" Aero Blade wheels you had on your demo car reduce the estimated range to 469 miles. The 19" Aero Range wheels, although not as flashy, provide the maximum 516 miles of range in this model. Having said that, I'm sure the EPA ranges were obtained using some serious hyper-mile testing that doesn't really reflect real world driving.

    Another masterclass on how to review a car for an older audience who want's facts and useful information, instead of quirks, features, and frunk space nonsense. It's refreshing to see honest EV reviews in real world settings that don't pander to the Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) crowd, with hyperbole headlines like "I spent $140K on an EV - its garbage".
    If I was in the market for a $140K EV, what would be the better choice the Porsche Taycan with endless configurations and ample dealer support, or the Lucid Air?. I've been to several Lucid showrooms and there the complete package inside and out. I'm excited to see what's next for Lucid. The FUD (anti) EV crowd loves to cry "price!, price! EVs are only for the elite's!", to which I answer, have you priced a new full-size truck lately? and there the best selling vehicle in the country.

    Isn’t the whine at low speed intentional? I recently read early EVs are being flagged for recall to fit a low speed noisemaker. Pedestrians are helped by hearing the movement of the car.

      Lucid has less Advanced batteries than AUSTIN model Y (4680) , and Lucid lacks Structural Battery pack & Underbody Gigacasting , both in Model Y.

    Just a beautiful, elegant car with technology to boot. Honestly this easily beats the Tesla and the Merc at the price. Much more impressed than I expected. In 10 or 15 years I can probably afford one used! Something to look forward to.

    Great job Tom. The car is very impressive, but I see these more as Concept Cars. I have an AMG Mercedes that I purchased new for 1/2 what they are asking for the Air. Plus this Company has virtually zero Dealer network so… where do you go when problems arise? (As they always do).
    Perhaps Lucid could align with one of the Majors the way AMG did with Mercedes? Lucid does the beautiful design and advanced R&D work, but buyers have the comfort of a national service network?
    Again, love the innovation and since Tesla is planning to put a big, huge MAGA imprint on the hood of every vehicle they produce, it’s nice to see some Non-Racist alternatives out there.

    Newark California is actually the Capitol of Fremont. Sorry, a very, very old joke because Newark is totally surrounded by Fremont. Fun random fact for you-- Fremont, California became a city in 1956 when five towns were incorporated into a single city (Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission and Warm Springs.) Newark was supposed to join, but the town residents voted it down. So Newark is the hole in the Fremont donut.
