I like that car. Way too expensive to even dream about owning one, but this looks really nice. Beautiful design that still kind of stands out without going full “in-your-face”. Not a fan of huge screens inside of the cockpit, but this one actually looks quite nice. If I had the money, I would be intriguing option. More so than a Tesla.
Nail on the head. I do love it, IF money is less important. It is like the Model S that came out 8 years ago. A doctor had one, and it was cool, awesome, and exclusive. And his point to impress the staff. It is a money is no option car. I would strongly consider than as a Tesla replacement if the price point can be kind of, sort of within my price point. @@chrismiddleton4733 I’ve found the opposite. Basically every car Tesla makes feels like an economy car with a crazy aftermarket screen. It doesn’t feel premium, like at all. This is coming from somebody who grew up being driven in BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus cars with a Toyota 4Runner as our off-road vehicle. Honestly, a modern Toyota with maxed out trim (platinum IIRC) would be nicer than a Tesla. The Lucid has all the components needed that, with extra screens behind seats along with an “executive console” in the back and way more material customizability, they could go toe-to-toe with a Rolls Royce. The trim and interior experience of the Lucid is WORLDS better than a Tesla, I basically refuse to give Tesla my money until they make a Model S that actually justifies it’s S-class price tag.

My brother-in-law just dropped $180K on one of these and they DO take off! My guess is that they targeted the potential Audi A8/BMW 7 series buyers. Mercedes Benz has its own S class competitor, the EQS. Those buyers don't usually consider the size of those vehicles when buying because they'll always have parking space for those cars.

I love the production quality of your videos, these are really becoming very enjoyable to watch even if I'm not a huge fan of the car. So about the car... I have no issues with electric, in fact I have wanted to go electric for a long time. My issue is that everybody making electric cars is making them gimmicky. Curved screens, touch screen everything, so called minimalistic (actually cheap) interiors. I want an electric car, that looks amazing, drives amazing and has a long range. I want an electric car with an interior identical to a petrol cars interior. I've had touch screens, they're not safe or better, you have to take your eyes off the road to use them, give me physical buttons, an instrument cluster with a hood and a full center console. I own an X5 5.0i and an M850i today, I've just paid off the X5 and once the M850 is paid off the X5 will be replaced. I'd love that to be an all electric X5 that looks identical to the gas X5.
Fantastic review! It's important to note that this $170,000 USD version is the Air Dream Edition, a limited-run version -- Lucid is only making a total of 520 of them, and they are all sold out and are being delivered to customers right now. Lucid is building less expensive versions of the Air -- the lowest level has nearly 500hp and costs about $70k after the federal EV credit. These will go into production in 2022.
That water bottle, James making constant eye contact during the massage. I must say I really love the interior. The exterior looks great. The price tag though for the performance model is still go with the Porsche. But 70k for an entry model price is still to high for me to get myself into an EV especially with the infrastructure or lack there of for charging stations. Still love the car.
Lucid seems like a great car and company! They just need to get through this crazy macroeconomic winter that everyone is going through to be honest. But a lot of companies are going through these tough time. Once they are out of the short struggle and more people know about it they will take off!! They seem to be making legitimate great cars!
Not all electric cars. Get ready for a wave of low cost EVs that are not particularly fast. For that matter, just look at the Nissan Leaf. It's been around forever.

Nice review guys. I think the day Tesla has more supply than demand this will be their nightmare. For now, they are raising prices to reduce queues, and even with that, some models still have a 1.3 year waiting list...I like Lucid and I wish them well, but they are literally just starting while Tesla will be pumping out 1.5M cars next year.
I don't see Lucid offering a roadster or a cybertruck either anytime soon, literally my two favorite to be expected cars out there right now. Other than that, I think the Lucid looks very grandpa-ish, probably designed to the taste of Peter Rowlinson himself. It's a decent looking car just a bit old fashioned, not THAT luxurious and overall very generic.
Agreed, NIO is much more of a threat than Lucid. They already have 5 models, are about to complete their huge factory and are more luxurious than Tesla (like Lucid). Also with battery swap tech, a supercharging network and an Apple like ecosystem with NIO houses, apps and products, NIO will rival Tesla much more than Lucid. They also already delivered 95k cars this year and will probably double to 200k next year. Their new ET7 claps Tesla’s sedans in battery life, design and luxury. It’s gonna sell like hotcakes
I truly hope Rivian & Lucid can reach volume production and get to profitability! Healthy competition for Tesla will keep them innovating and feed into the industry as a whole. @@Tim_3100 Exactly! NO, you are ABSOLUTELY not alone. I find it HIGHLY IRONIC that the safety industry pushes us away from using our phones when we drive; where we can be ticketed in many state and local jurisdictions for using our mobile devices while driving. In some places, you can get ticketed even if you're completely stopped but are on a public roadway (like sitting at a stop sign or stop light, scrolling on your phone). Yet here we are, with automakers placing giant iPads on the dashboard and burying all the "no-look" features behind layers of software and inherently distracting technology that requires you to take your eyes off the road. I suppose if we make everything voice controlled, such as "Tesla, set my heat to level 3 at 68 degrees", it wouldn't be as big a deal. But even then, buttons are usually 100 percent accurate every time and I can access them without taking my eyes off the road, simply by feel and placement. These interactivity compromises are creating solutions to problems that never existed in the first place until we started ramping up the tech in our cars, and at the same time we harp on everyone about safety and paying attention behind the wheel of a vehicle. Am I also a hater and idiot for agreeing with and emphasizing your point? I think this is a valid elephant in the room!

It may be Ok when cars are fully autonomous, but at the present time, I don't think it should be legal to produce cars that require interaction with a touchscreen for routine tasks.

Willing to bet that most people mentioning the Plaid's brakes, own a car with a much worse braking distance. Sure, it's no track prepped Porsche, but compared to 99% of the cars you'll see on the road, it'll come to a stop more than adequately.
I definitely appreciate the technology and the specs for performance but the styling of the exterior and even acceleration sounds put me to sleep . I couldn’t consciously pay that kind of money for a boring from the outside vehicle
I would love to see you guys get it on your race track, set a lap time, drag race it against competitors, and find out whether the brakes fade like the Tesla Model S Plaid.
If there's one thing for sure, this has much better brakes than a Plaid or any Tesla for that matter. No, it doesn't have the Porsche Taycan's 10-piston front brake calipers, but 6-piston calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the back gripping those big rotors should work properly.
Problem is canyon carving reaching 60mph down to 30mph has nothing to do with track driving reaching 120mph+ down to 30mph. When Lucid gets on a track its brakes will cook as quickly as the Plaid’s. Bashing the Plaid on a paid trip from Lucid is a cheap shot.
@@Caterbusa That's why I want them to test it on a racetrack, because this Canyon Drive is not a good comparison to the model s plaid. It's OK, but in comparison to some of the newer visual displays from the new more mainstream luxury brands like Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Hummer even Lincoln I don't think it measures up, especially at that price point.
This being Lucid's first car is mighty impressive! I mean just look at it, looks french in the best way possible

Loll... Exactly!!! Beat me to it!!

I agree. To me it looks a little like the new Alpine A110 stretched to 4 doors
its NOT Lucid's first car , the FIRST one was the ATIVA , it was a Metris VAN by Daimler and was named "EDNA".
If someone doesn't start making more affordable EV's that the working class can buy, then what's the point? Meaning the purpose of transitioning to EV'S is to reduce carbon emissions, do less harm to the air and climate and planet. But if the vast majority can't afford one....
Normal steering wheel, brakes that work and even decent handling. Basically it has everything Tesla forgot when designing the Plaid 🤣
Best engineers in the world forgot.

Beautiful design that still kind of stands out without going full “in-your-face”.
Not a fan of huge screens inside of the cockpit, but this one actually looks quite nice.
If I had the money, I would be intriguing option. More so than a Tesla.
Very much agreed my good sir
Nail on the head. I do love it, IF money is less important.
It is like the Model S that came out 8 years ago. A doctor had one, and it was cool, awesome, and exclusive. And his point to impress the staff. It is a money is no option car.
I would strongly consider than as a Tesla replacement if the price point can be kind of, sort of within my price point. I am poor, so taking delivery of my 2022 M3 LR on June 4, 2022, replacing my 2021 SR+.
I still think the Model S has a more timeless elegance to it. Plus, for the money, I would go for a Tesla because you're also getting the charging network.
But I don't have enough money for either one, so a flaming Bolt it is lol! 😉😂
I like what I call the 35% screen, where there is a tiny screen on top of the dash with traditional controls below, its a killer combo.
Absolutely the best looking EV ever! And no weird dashboard! I love it!

The intro was a work of art
It looks amazing, but next to the already large EQS it looked massive as well. Curious if it will be useful for day to day driving in Europe.
Nobody cares about Europe.
I heard it's a actually 5 series in size outside with 7 series space inside.
It doesn't look any bigger than a s class
My guess is that they targeted the potential Audi A8/BMW 7 series buyers. Mercedes Benz has its own S class competitor, the EQS. Those buyers don't usually consider the size of those vehicles when buying because they'll always have parking space for those cars.
Europeans should just ride bikes everywhere. How do Lamborghinis even fit Italian streets?
I don’t know how I can stress this enough, you’re intro’s are fantastic 😂🔥👏🏽…

Totally agree my dude

Problem is canyon carving reaching 60mph down to 30mph has nothing to do with track driving reaching 120mph+ down to 30mph. When Lucid gets on a track its brakes will cook as quickly as the Plaid’s. Bashing the Plaid on a paid trip from Lucid is a cheap shot.

Great review. As for the design of the Lucid Air... I also spot a bit of Alpine A110? The Logo, the rear, ... And some other cars too, but I can't remember which ones. It's a pretty thing in any case.
Also, what if they made the wheel covers transparent?
The wheel covers will be transparent as soon as you park it - since someone will have stolen them!
@@ApothecaryTerry What would anyone do with wheel covers that only fit a few hundred cars in the entire world?
@@incognitotorpedo42 What would anyone do with half a bike? Common sense has never stopped people stealing cheaper things for a few long time, I don't see that changing now!
These intros just get better and better. I think I look forward to them more than the car sometimes lol. Great work as always. 🙌
Every car maker has had a "Tesla killer" for the last decade and they all have come short. This one will be no different, but competition leads to better pricing... So bring it on!
Never been a fan of EV’s, but wow this one is honestly beautiful.
Thank heavens, someone finally put proper brakes on a tank with more hp than an entire Honda dealership. With massive power you gotta have the supporting systems at the same caliber.
You say that but ive never seen anyone push it hard on a track, tesla brakes work like any other steel brake, ceramic brakes are horrible for daily's.
@@odisy64 no they don’t. They are nowhere near good enough for the power and weight of that csr
@@mattbrew11 they are, the brake distance is decent for its weight, you guys are just complaining you cant treat them like race brakes.
the build quality alone looks far superior to anything Mr Musk is offering right now.
Shocking. The build quality is higher for a car that costs significantly more money? How on earth did they do it?
@@am.i.serious4284 top of the line versions for both the MS and Lucid start at 130,000$
Design as well. Tasteful
Yeah for double the price. The only thing even close is the plaid and it’s still like $30,000 cheaper and is bought solely for performance. Lucid isn’t even coming closing to competing with Tesla yet.
@@philorgneopolotin8762 the top of the range lucid is 130,000$, same price as the plaid. The one featured here is a limited edition run which is why it costs more.
Looks like a great car, but hardly think Lucid are Tesla's living nightmare just yet... they recently cut their own yearly production target by almost half after delivering only 679 cars in the second quarter... I just hope they don't go bust.
