      Yeah don't want to put a number on it, but I saw the two of them come up to the yak, and they were big! Definitely lost the chance at getting a PB on multiple occasions that weekend 😂 more motivation for next time I guess...

      Yeah those hammerheads followed me around for an hour or so. I think they could sense the livebaits in my livebait tank, even through the plastic! I used to be afraid of sharks, but after diving with them I'm much more comfortable around them.

    Hey Greg awesome video,
    I would love if you could make a video on the pros and cons of a pedal vs paddle kayak.
    I’m thinking of going to a pedal kayak after owning a paddle one for ages.
    I always listen and really take on board your advice since your so experienced.

      thanks Josh! Appreciate the comment mate. I'll definitely do a video about the PDL one of these days. I've been asked a few times now. There are certainly plenty of upsides to the PDL, and not many downsides. For me I don't think I could go back to a paddle kayak. But I have a pretty different set of needs from a kayak than your average angler. I'll do a full review in time covering all the differences and why someone might consider a PDL over a paddle kayak. Cheers!

    Great work, mate. looks like a really fishy area, lots of life. Tough trying to keep a strong kingie from 'railing' you - if that's the right term - in the kayak. Do you mind clarifying your rig for trolling the livies? ie. do you use a sinker to get the livie down, or free swimming?

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  Год назад +1

      Yeah that area goes off on a good day! I've had some tough days there also. It's tough when the fish decides to go the opposite way you want, that's for sure 😂
      I have a few different rigs for livies. When I tow them offshore for game fish, I don't use a sinker - simply leader to swivel to 130lb trace to livebait hook, then bridle rig the livebait using a rubber band or braid as the bridle. For inshore / kingfish fishing, I tend to run leader to swivel, add a 2-4oz sinker on a rubber band around the swivel (in case the fish takes you into the reef, the sinker will break away and reduce your chance of getting snagged), then from swivel to trace (60-130lb for kingfish), then to livebait hook. Again, bridle the bait even for inshore. Bridle rigging is a game changer. Much better hook up rate, the bait lasts longer, and the bait rarely gets ripped off the hook.

      @@gpfishingadventures7834 Awesome tips on the rigging, mate. The rubber band thing with the sinker is smart thinking. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    What did u catch the kingfish on? (Livebait, popper or stickbait, or jig?)

  • @mjw789234
    @mjw789234 Год назад +1

    Nice one. How'd you find the skippy? I fried some up once and thought it was pretty close to the canned stuff.

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  Год назад

      Thanks Michael! It wasn't half bad, despite what everyone says. I had it 3 days after catching it - raw and smoked. You're right, it tastes very close to what you get in a can. It didn't have that nasty fishy taste that I was expecting. If you were after a feed, nothing wrong with a few of those. Good sustainable option too.

    Nice one! Ive got one question do you think a 6000 size penn reel be able to handle big kings or would it be too small?

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  Год назад

      Cheers! Yeah definitely, 6000 is perfect for all sizes of kingfish. I have mine loaded with 50lb braid.

      @gpfishingadventures7834  Год назад

      @@gointokill7244 yeah I've always run a 6000 for kingfish. It's big enough to stop large fish, but not so big that it's unusable on the kayak.
