This was Alan Rickman's break out movie role. He was relatively unknown before this role.

Try telling that to Bruce Willis LOL!!. The movie came out in the summer of 89 and I caught it day 1 at the theaters. The Christmas theme being part of it really was not meant to be taken that way however the perception of the viewers thought otherwise. Over the years it reached a point to where Die Hard slowly morphed into being featured more around Christmas on tv as much as any other part of the year. People also tend to forget about Lethal Weapon, which actually pushes the Christmas theme more so than Die Hard and that movie came out the year before. Recommend Duaffy you watch that one too. Also Die Hard 2, since McClane happened to be in the middle of Christmas AGAIN!! LOL

Even though Die Hard was released in July of 1988 the overwhelming consensus is that Die Hard is a Christmas movie and who am I to argue ( since the story itself takes place during Christmas time ). A few tid bits about the stunts ( from Wikipedia) During filming of a scene where McClane shoots a terrorist through a table, Willis suffered a permanent two-thirds hearing loss in his left ear caused by firing the loud blank cartridges close to his head. The first scene he shot was his leap from the top of Nakatomi Plaza with a firehose wrapped around his waist. The stunt involved a 25-foot leap from a five-story parking garage ledge onto an airbag as a 60-foot wall of flame exploded behind him; he considered it to be one of his toughest stunts. Willis was coated in fire-retardant liquid to protect him from the flames. The explosive force pushed him towards the edge of the airbag; the crew was concerned he had died. Stuntman Ken Bates stood in for Willis when his character is hanging from the building Yikes and there more about the Stunt Alan Rickman ( Hans Gruber ) at the end falling from the window I'll let someone else fill that in.

Aside from Bruce Willis' iconic John Mclean, Alan Rickman as evil mastermind Hans Gruber (yes, that Alan Rickman), the film also star Alexander Godunov - former Bolshoi and American Ballet Theater Principle Dancer, as Karl (the blond haired criminal who survives everything only to be killed by Sgt. Who would have thought that a dancer would make such an effective criminal? Just more evidence that on top of a great screenplay, acting, directing, and cinematography, this film really benefitted from some inspired casting. What a great film!

Die Hard 4.0 is one my favourites, along with Swordfish (John Travolta, Hugh Jackman & Halle Berry) and True Lies (Arnold Schwarzenegger & Jamie Lee Curtis) - you should do a reaction video to those two. Merry Christmas !

Oh, no! Programming in 80's was not simple at all! Now we have tools for (probably) every single use case, so when we program we don't need to worry about secondary things. If you need something - there is probably a tool, a library or a framework that does this for you. And it was not the case in 80's - we had a very limited set of tools back then, so when programmed we not only had to write the main code but also all the underlying layers that are totally hidden. Even if someone else has already done the same thing (and most probably was), we had no communication channel to exchange knowledge. So in a nutshell, programming in 80's was mostly reinventing the wheel. It was hard!

Merry Chirstmas Duaffy!!! Hans Gurber, i.e. "Snape," is really amazingly great in the movie "Galaxy Quest." I think you'd really love it, and I'd love to see your reaction.

Best scene is when Argyle takes out the bad guy computer whiz. And, kudos to the classy James Shigeta as Takagi. Shigeta was the lead in the movie musical Flower Drum Song in 1961.

Karl was Alexander Godunov. He also played Max in "The Money Pit" with Hanks and Shelly Long and Daniel in "Witness" with Harrison Ford.
Both of which would be great for first time share.
    He died in 1995. RIP
Paul Gleason played the stupid police sergeant Robinson. He also played Clarence Beeks in "Trading Places" and VP Richard(DICK) Vernon
    in "The Breakfast Club"
    He died in 2006. RIP
Trivia For the shot where Hans Gruber falls from the top of the building, Alan Rickman was actually falling from a 21-foot high model.
He was holding on to a stunt man and falling on to an air bag. To get the right reaction, the stunt man dropped Rickman on the count of two, not three.

About Alexander Godunov I think it's great to remark that he was an important ballet dancer in the USSR!! I think if that profession haves some stereotipes he breaks them pretty well in this film.

I think that John didnt expect his wife to be a housewife, but when she put her carrier before their family, that hurt. ANd then she used her maiden name instead of his, although they are not legally divorced - and that is a slap in the face to anyone. So I totally understand his reaction.

Argyle's choice of Christmas music is a tipoff that this isn't the usual Christmas or Action movie.
Back then, Hollyweird thought of Bruce Willis as "that TV guy." By playing John McLane as a working-class, ordinary guy, and NOT a muscle-bound, "Rambo"-type, Bruce Willis became a bonafide Action movie star. More on Leonard Slye: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Rogers
Speaking of "Birds of Prey," how about the 1973 TV movie, instead?: ruclips.net/video/xYQoSlHDN48/видео.html
You may be amazed at what a TV movie company could do. long before DFX, and with a period-appropriate music soundtrack.

Willis was different in that he *wasn't* a superman. He was usually beat up at the end of the movie.
He was quite good in Tears Of The Sun.
