Don't worry about Dianne, she got away from the horde and survived by eating David's leg. She lives with her aunt in Birmingham and stays in touch with Shaun & Liz. Not making that up, the DVD extras have a short film starring Lucy Davis called Blood & Ice Cream that follows Dianne after the Winchester incident.
What I love about Shaun of the Dead is that so much of what happens throughout the film is foreshadowed at the beginning of the film by Ed in the bar during the "It's not the end of the world" speech: “We’ll have a Bloody Mary first thing" - Zombie in the backyard (whose name is Mary) "A bite at the King’s Head" - Shaun's stepdad getting bitten "Couple at the Little Princess" - They go to pick up Liz, Di, and David "Stagger back here" - Staggering like zombies as they imitate them to move through the horde to the Winchester "And bang, back at the bar for shots!" - Using the rifle at the Winchester to kill zombies Even the ending is announced earlier, when Pete is yelling at Ed, saying, "You wanna live like an animal? Go *live in the shed* , you thick fuck!"
Also when the kid first kicks the ball at Shaun, Shaun points at him and says "You're dead". And when Pete has a go at them for playing music late Ed mutters " Next time I see him, he's dead".
And then of course to most infamous callback, "You've got red on you." Here are a few more callbacks/easter eggs in the movie Every single object has a meaning. The Electro record that Ed threw at the zombie was there because Pete threw it outside last night. Barbra finds the flowers than Shaun was suppose to give to her but gave to Liz in the trash after he threw them away after their breakup Zombie Nelson (the shopkeeper) is holding out his hand when Ed and Shaun are about to leave their neighborhood because Shaun still owns him money Every side character you meet in the intro comes back as a zombie. Obviously there's Mary, but also the hoodie guy in the scene with the title is the one who bit Phillip in the neck, the one armed zombie was behind Shaun at his first trip to the shop, the guy who bit Barbra is at the bus station in the scene prior, Snakehips was being eaten (surrounded) by women, the zombie to first notice the gang when they got to the Winchester was the Coccoidal Maniac, and way more. Shaun used to work as a DJ and his full name is Shaun "Smiley" Riley. Shaun helping Ed with his game comes back to play when Ed helps Shaun aim to shoot at zombies The whole movie is based off of an episode of "Spaced," the TV show that Simon and Edgar worked on, where Simon's character was playing Residential Evil 2 for too long and starts seeing zombies everywhere. Shaun's business and the place he was supposed to book a reservation with Liz are named after people who worked on famous horror movies. The DVD has three plot holes that show how Shaun gave the zombies the slip (he did but just one of them noticed), how Diana survived the hoard of zombies by climbing into a tree and eating David's leg, and how zombie Ed ended up in the shed. Please check out the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy. Especially the World's End. I know it's not everyone's favorite, but it's criminally underrated.
Opps, zombie movie. Welp. 28 days and weeks later they went full quarantine and containment of an entire country. Not bad, even though it was their fault lol
"we're coming to get you Barbara!" That is actually a line from Night of the Living dead. The first zombie film, it's also said by a guy that looks a lot like the dude in love with Liz
The line in Night of the Living Dead is "They're coming to get you, Barbara." So, it's not the exact line, but it is definitely a homage. I just realized that the Barbaras in both films spend most of the time in shock or in a daze. I'm guessing that's also intentional.
The movies in the Cornetto Trilogy are not really connected. Not story wise at least. Just that it's the collaboration of Edgar, Simon, and Nick, and their style, and that someone eats a Cornetto. They all started out together with a TV show first called "Spaced", to include Jessica Hynes, who played Yvonne. That was the joke of Yvonne's character in the movie. The TV show was based off Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes being flat mates.
When You say "I wonder why he doesn't have many friends" When Ed says "Can i get any of you c**ts a drink" Well... That's just how we talk to our friends in the UK, we playfully insult them, just like Ed did here, it's not meant to be taken literally, it's just a good-natured, playful insult.
Duaffy "You dont see how everything is covered in garbage?" Me: Nope. That's London. Duaffy "You dont see the blood hand print on the fridge?" Me: Nope. That's London
There is so much foreshadowing in these films! Remember when Pete told Ed, "You wanna live like an animal? Go live in the shed!"? In fact pretty much the entire first half of the movie foreshadows the second half.
It’s not really a spoiler as to why it’s called the Cornetto Trilogy but in each movie there are reoccurring scenes of them eating Ice Cream and Cornetto is a type of Ice Cream that comes in many different flavours here in the UK, there’s other reoccurring scenes which are fun when you spot them
Also the three flavours are: Strawberry, which is red which represents zombies. Classic, which is blue which represents police. Mint, which is green which represents aliens.
"WORK SHED!" That's an homage to Evil Dead 2 where there's a voiceover of Bruce Campbell saying "Work shed", it's an iconic set for horror fans and this movie had to include a work shed. The Evil Dead shed also had Freddy Krueger's glove hanging over the door. (In case you like hunting for Easter Eggs that's a classic.)
Diane did not die, in the special features of the movie you find out she climbed up a tree after beating her way through the crowd of zombies with David's severed Leg. Then as she explains in a voiceover, she goes to see her aunt.
Every extra in the pre-zombie scenes are the zombies that make up the horde at the end, all the same people and they were all paid 1 pound a day, just like the extras in Romero's Night of the Living Dead who were paid $1 a day. The extras on Dawn of the Dead were volunteers, zombie fans and family members of the crew, they also got paid $1 a day. People just want to be in zombie movies even if they don't get paid.
This movie is Edgar Wrights love letter to George Romero and his "Living Dead" series.. which created "modern" zombie media. There are many, many references in this to Romero's films "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" (1968), DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), and DAY OF THE DEAD (1985). All of which I HIGHLY recommend.
I just realized that Ed being kept in the shed was an analogy for the way we keep people who aren't in our lives anymore alive in our memories and habits. Even though he left Ed behind to have a go at it with Liz, Ed's still with him when he's playing old games.
Zombie Ed isn't that different from human Ed, except he might smell a bit better. Thanks for sharing your plane with us, I especially look forward to the last one, a true horror classic but I'll be onboard for all 4 films.
The amount of "Seriously?..." in this reaction xD They're deliberately written to be dumb, as to enhance comedic effect ;) Don't question their dumb decisions.
I do find it rather annoying when reactors feel the need to chastise characters in a movie, like they’re not written to be that way. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it feels more like self promotion of what a ‘great person’ they are, instead of just watching the friggin’ movie. Sorry, I didn’t explain that very well, I just woke up from a nap.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 no no I get what you’re trying to say ^^ I do indeed find it better to watch a movie and it’s characters for how they are, not how you personally think they should act. Because otherwise no movie would be fun because they’d always be predictable.
"I did not expect to see Ed in the shed." Well, funny story.. :D These movies are chock-full of foreshadowing. I love the fact that when Pete yells at Ed, he says: "You wanna live like an animal? Go live in the SHED!" :D Just one of a gajillion little foreshadowing gems. (I'm not saying you should have EXPECTED to see Ed in the shed at the end, just by that comment; just highlighting Wright's writing style, and how you pick of tons of stuff in a second viewing.) "World's End" is briliant, too.
A not-so-fun fact: Filming had to stop for a few hours during the "zombie Barbara" scene. Simon and Nick were so heartbroken during the scene, it took them hours to stop crying.
I remember explaining to a friend who saw this with me who sadly passed away that in this movie everyone that held either Shaun back from being his own man or stood in the way of the romantic relationship between Shaun and Liz died. And Yvonne who inquired about Shaun and his relationship with Liz came back for him with the militia because she had a crush on Shaun and was surprised to see that both he and Liz made it safely.
i was walking down my road one day in north London when i saw some people dressed as zombies and a truck with a car rigged up on the back and people fighting inside.. little did i know at the time it was them shooting this movie
"They're coming to get you, Barbara" is a quote from the movie "Night of the Living Dead" this movie referenced that with the quote "We're coming to get you, Barbara!"
One of the hidden points of this movie is actualy that we also live like zombies at times, like when shaun is doing his morning routine to the shop and doesn't notice things have changed. And all the people/zombies are doing the same in both moments. Also the fact that Ed and zombie Ed are so similar.
Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg, the actor who played the roommate, and the actress who played the girl leader of the clone zombie brigade who keeps bumping into Shaun got their big break on a BBC TV series called "Spaced." You can see the Cornetto Trilogy style of film genre homages and comedy in that show. Worth a watch.
Hey, uh, Duaffy? You got red on you. Shawn does not have a very good relationship with Philip. His mum's wonderful, but to visit mum would be to visit stepdad. So, it makes for a difficult time. Philip has been a disapproving grump for all of Shawn's life, and always disparages Shawn. Naurally, Shawn is not prone to visiting or introducing people to his family. Ed intentionally pranged it. So he could drive Philip's untouchable car.
It's not part of the trilogy but "Paul" is one of theirs, and they have a cameo in "Land of the Dead" as for 28 Days later, that's going to be fun. They're not the type of zombies that you have to destroy the brain, you could kill them as easy as any human, nothing to worry about. Plus Doctor who # 9 shows up so there's nothing to be afraid of in that movie... 28 viewings later 😳
I LOVE this flick! Also, you're correct, they did a great job balancing all the fun with some serious and some social commentary. Loved the reaction, and WE LOVE DUAFFY!
The level of writing is unreal. Not only does everything have a pre and post zombie meaning, but dialog and scenes are reused with different context. The continuity is outstanding nothing is wasted not even the flowers. There is a very good reason why the Cornetto Trilogy is up their with the best trilogies of all time. Plus you pick up on something new every rewatch it's great. Oh and how is this for foreshadowing, Ed reveals the plot in the pub whilst trying to cheer up Shaun. Everything he says from bloody Mary to shots at the pub all come true.
My favorite zombie movie of all time and the first of Edgar Wright's amazing run of amazing films. Hope you watch all of them at some point! Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the other Spooktober films, especially 'The Thing'.
Sean reminds me of an old friend I used to know who always wanted to go down the pub and the lady that played Sean's mum Una Stubbs recently passed away RIP Una Stubbs.... great to hear you're watching the thing it's a horror classic.
Ooooh you haven't seen The Thing? That is one of my all-time favorite movies and I can't wait to see your reaction to it! It is a perfect movie for Halloween season too!
The Cornetto trilogy is more an anthology than a real trilolgy They share many things (director, writers, actors, props, reccuring scenes...) but it's 3 different storys making hommage of 3 genres with a matching color cornetto associated at one point in the movie Shaun of the dead : red cornetto (gory/zombie movies) Hot fuzz : blue cornetto (cop/crime movies) World's end : green cornetto (alien/scifi movies) Fun fact, the red cornetto is an "hangover cure" Edgar Wright used when he was younger About the funny fight scene synced with Don't stop me now, Edgar Wright re used the idea and made a whole film on this with Baby driver where almost everything you see in the movie is synced with the music the main character listen (especially the car chase scenes)
The greatest thing about watching your reactions is to see and hear your laugh. You are such a treat. 😊💕 Not part of the "trilogy" but another must see is Run, Fatboy, Run. Another one of Simon Pegg's classics. 🍿 Have a Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻
I love the Cornetto Trilogy (and other well-made action comedies) because they manage to be funny, and fun, and also manage to be emotional and pull on your heartstrings. I think that’s what sets great comedies apart from just average ones.
As a person who had a dart bounce off the metal wire rim of our dart board as a kid and had it land in my bare foot... that dart in the head part kinda, gets me every time. You'd also be very surprised at what people can ignore around them when they want too... its a special human 'gift'. From what ive seen you appeared to get all the jokes, and even noticed them coming alot of the time which is great so I wouldnt worry to much about bits going over your head you've done a hell of a lot better than some American YTers in that area. Although with all teh movies in the Cornetto Trilogy watching each one a few times you notice a few things you missed in the background or that didnt click the first time around, its what makes them perfect films. 'Worlds End' is **two thumbs up** great as the last of the trilogy, definitely in my own opinion the best of the 3 or at the least equal to Hot Fuzz... and now i have "Dont stop me now" stuck in my head for tonight, much worse ways to spend a Saturday night lol
the reason for the zombie apocalypse cut off on the news, was on purpose. The rule was,in original zombie movies was never disclose the reason for the zombies.
I consider Shaun of the dead my favourite British movie! I saw it in the cinemas back in 04, it still makes me laugh even after all these years, no matter how many times I watch it.
You better be sure about the Exorcist. It is extremely intense and some people can't take it. Sort of like how some people aren't prepared for Saving Private Ryan. Just saying.
If you watched this movie but had not seen the TV series 'Spaced' - you're fine. But you should watch 'Spaced'. Messrs. Peg, Frost & Stevenson star in it. Oh and it also has one of the finest lines in in TV history: Sophie: Sorry Tim, I can't see you tonight. We've have a mis-print on the front cover of one of our magazines! Tim: Oh no - which one? Sophie: Total Cult!
Hi D! Whew! My favorite Edgar Wright movie! Absolutely bonkers from start to finish! Looking forward to your Spooktober reactions D! Much love and God bless!
One of my fav zombie movies, it shows a loving homage to them, and there are nods to other movies, and they even so similar things like the fences in hot fuzz
Warm Bodies, Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Anna & The Apocalypse and Pride And Prejudice And Zombies are the types of zombie movies Duaffy would like. A romance, a comedy, a musical and a re-telling of the Jane Austen classic but with zombies.
If you plan on reacting to the Squid Game tv series (only 9 episodes) please do it fast while everyone is still searching for it! I love your channel and really want it to grow big!
"Do you know that arcade game where you got cute little animals and you just gotta bash them in the head?" I never realized until now how much the violence against cute animals as a game was misrepresented in our childhood as "cute". lmao

This is one of those movies that i can watch 100+ times and still love and enjoy it.
If there's one movie you just got to see that's perfect for this month Duffy is 1963's The Haunting.
And, the Legend of Hell House
Sean reminds me of an old friend I used to know who always wanted to go down the pub and the lady that played Sean's mum Una Stubbs recently passed away RIP Una Stubbs.... great to hear you're watching the thing it's a horror classic.
8:43 They didn't follow Smart Hulk's advice: "shut the front door!"
Ooooh you haven't seen The Thing? That is one of my all-time favorite movies and I can't wait to see your reaction to it! It is a perfect movie for Halloween season too!
Duaffy, you have such a great laugh!
It's like a more likable version of Jimmy Carr.
The Cornetto trilogy is more an anthology than a real trilolgy
They share many things (director, writers, actors, props, reccuring scenes...) but it's 3 different storys making hommage of 3 genres with a matching color cornetto associated at one point in the movie
Shaun of the dead : red cornetto (gory/zombie movies)
Hot fuzz : blue cornetto (cop/crime movies)
World's end : green cornetto (alien/scifi movies)
Fun fact, the red cornetto is an "hangover cure" Edgar Wright used when he was younger
About the funny fight scene synced with Don't stop me now, Edgar Wright re used the idea and made a whole film on this with Baby driver where almost everything you see in the movie is synced with the music the main character listen (especially the car chase scenes)
The greatest thing about watching your reactions is to see and hear your laugh. You are such a treat. 😊💕
Not part of the "trilogy" but another must see is Run, Fatboy, Run. Another one of Simon Pegg's classics. 🍿
Have a Happy Halloween!
Ed in the Shed is my favorite Dr. Seuss book.
the reason for the zombie apocalypse cut off on the news, was on purpose. The rule was,in original zombie movies was never disclose the reason for the zombies.
That really hurts, Duaffey! My name is Phillip. And my birthday is Monday, the 18th!
What's the matter, David? Never taken a shortcut before? Gets me every time!!! 🤣🤣
Possible my favorite Zombie movie ever. Happy to see you react to it, Enjoy.
Okay you need to watch the TV show SPACED it's by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg I think know you'll love it!
Also we need a Rocky reaction!!!
Excellent start to your intended listed lineup of reaction movies. good choice IMHO :)
"You've got red on you..." Nice outfit choice. 😉
"The Haunting' 1963 In some countries "The Haunting of Hill House" would be a good Spooktober movie for your review
Happy Spooktober Duaffy! 🎃
5:43 "It's not the end of the world."
Ohhhhh. _Foreshadowing._
Must see Paul an Alien 👽 😊
For me that'll always be the third Three Flavours Cornetto film! (World's End was just kind of depressing...)
Duaffy M&S I think the reason why he didn't notice anything is because in that scene he just woke up and is super hungover.
If you watched this movie but had not seen the TV series 'Spaced' - you're fine. But you should watch 'Spaced'. Messrs. Peg, Frost & Stevenson star in it. Oh and it also has one of the finest lines in in TV history:
Sophie: Sorry Tim, I can't see you tonight.
Can’t wait for Hot Fuzz. Not only the best of the trilogy, but one of my favourite movies of all time. It’s truly a masterpiece.
Hot Fuzz is already available. I watched it before this one :) I hope you enjoy it!
This movie is the perfect balance of horror and comedy, well British comedy
One of my fav zombie movies, it shows a loving homage to them, and there are nods to other movies, and they even so similar things like the fences in hot fuzz
One of the best films ever. It's brilliant
Pegg and Frost . That is all🥇😂🧟. yarp(McCann fan)
Let”s cut through the chase and get right to Exorcist.
If you plan on reacting to the Squid Game tv series (only 9 episodes) please do it fast while everyone is still searching for it! I love your channel and really want it to grow big!
i thought a duaffy would be more in touch with english culture than i, a hopeless american
Zodiac (2007) it's like a prequel to the MCU it's got Iron Man, Hulk, and Mysterio.
"Do you know that arcade game where you got cute little animals and you just gotta bash them in the head?" I never realized until now how much the violence against cute animals as a game was misrepresented in our childhood as "cute". lmao
Moles are probably hated by farmers. Farmers probably invented waka-a-mole.
Violence against animals...🤔
I have some really bad news for her about a lot of classic cartoons.
(Some of it animal inflicted as well.)
Return of the Living Dead (1985) is also hilarious.
You got red on you
Probably the best zombie movie ever made.
Btw, if you like zombie movies try "Juan of the dead" from Cuba.
En espanol!
“Will he discover that phone call?”
“They’re zombies without being zombies!” 😂 So true! From one gal to another. 🙂
"We're slowly rising the terror. Next up: The Thing!"
Well. Uhm....
You need to watch THE ADDAMS FAMILY movie that was released in 1991. It's a comedy/horror film.
A lot of the characters in this are from a brit comedy series called "spaced" quite how Shaun and Edd ended up living with Pete Shaun's mortal enemy is lost on me
23:49 _"Oh my god! Are you serious?"_
Best friends 'til the end. 🤷
