    The great thing about the cornetto trilogy is that they manage to be brilliant comedies and parodies without losing track of the essence of the thing they're parodying. Shaun of the Dead is a very competent zombie movie, Hot Fuzz a very competent Cop Buddy movie and At Worlds End - well, you get it.

      While it's hard to compete with Lord of the Rings and Star Wars (ROTK is probably always going to be my #1 movie ever made by every metric and Star Wars basically changed cinema and moviemaking forever and more than any other movie) I wouldn't be too upset at now that you made me think about it honestly to put it at #3 (4? Perfectly honest, I truly believe Emperor Palpatine's story arc is the greatest bit of storytelling ever since the dawn of human language, so I damn near put III as the top movie. Still, I agree LOTR, Star Wars, Cornetto) If nothing else for them being a literal complete masterclass in filmmaking and directing from Edgar Wright because there is literally every trick in the book somewhere in one of the 3.

    As was mentioned, this is the second film of the Cornetto Trilogy. You don't need to watch them in any particular order. The first one made was "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz" the second, and "The World's End" the third. They are not narratively related at all, but they are thematically related in that each is an over-the-top parody of a different genre: zombie apocalypse, police action movie, and science fiction.
    It's called the Cornetto Trilogy because a cornetto ice cream shows up somewhere in each one.

    • @chomior

    Supreme editing on this video, excellent selection on what 10 minutes to show. You maintained the structure of the film and kept every plot point, allowing the audience to follow along. Even had they not seen the film before, a viewer could watch this and understand exactly how the story unfolded, and how the two main characters grew.
    I particularly enjoyed the way you edited the small moments of Sgt. Angel doing his job, painstakingly showing each part of being a police officer in a small town: meeting the residents; orientation at the station; coordinating with Neighbourhood Watch (or similar orgs); community outreach and local school presentations; responding to non-emergency calls from citizens; patrolling a beat; shopping/errands while on duty; setting up a speedtrap; maintaining a police cordon; providing security at a local festival; paperwork. The film injects drama every opportunity it gets, but these are all real, every-day things that police might do on any given day as part of their job, and you took great care to keep all that in, while still finding moments to allow your wonderful personality and reaction to come through. Well done.
    Very rare to see that level of awareness and effort, most reactors keep in the jokes, punchlines, and situational comedy, at the expense of the narrative structure. Fantastic work, Ms. Duaffy, you have earned a subscriber, today.

    I'm surprised how many times you've called it. For your first time watching this movie, you're rather spot-on.

  • @ДмитрийЮрьевичПлотников

    When you said “I can’t believe this is how it is actually happening” referring to Angel and Butterman carrying weapons and ammo to the evidence room, it reminded me of a story I heard from my friend, a Russian police officer.
    There are still quite a few landmines and unexploded artillery rounds in Russia on the old battlefields of the Second World War (most have been cleaned up, but some remain). One day, a local farmer called the police and informed them he found something that appears to be an unexploded artillery shell. It proved to be exactly that, but, due to it being in a poorly accessible rural area, the sapper team could only arrive to take care of it tomorrow. The police still had to ensure that no one would stumble upon this shell and harm themselves before that, so they left an officer to guard it until the morning. However, the weather was bad, and the officer did not really feel like spending the entire night under cold rain. Instead, he loaded the shell into his car, drove home, spend a night there, and in the morning brought the shell back to the place it was found.
    Bottom line: yes, the handling of arms, ammunition, and explosives in law enforcement can absolutely take absurdly comical forms.

    One of my favorite references in this film is that his badge number is 777, a number associated with Jesus Christ and the Christian religion, his name is Angel and he rides in on a pale horse (or death) with Wings made from guns.

    Comedy gore is a real thing, most of them are called "splattstick" - perfect examples are Evil Dead 2 and the early Peter Jackson-movies Bad Taste & Brain Dead (Dead Alive). Speaking of Jackson, he has a cameo as the knife stabbing Santa in this movie =) *Yarp*

    As others have already commented, this is part of the Cornetto trilogy (Cornetto is an ice cream brand) and it's the second movie of three. They can be watched in any order since their stories aren't connected, only the actors, director and style.
    In order of release you've got the wonderful "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz" and "World's End". I really hope you watch the other two as well since my personal favorite Shaun of the Dead is better than Hot Fuzz (in my personal opinion) but I love all three. I do think I prefer Shaun of the Dead and World's End over Hot Fuzz but that's just me.
    If you felt this movie took a sudden turn halfway through, wait until you watch the third and last movie in the Cornetto trilogy "World's End". It shocked even me at first. ;)

    • @szepi79
      @szepi79 3 года назад

      the world's end is the worst of the 3. it's not bad ofc, only compared to the other 2. shaun & hot fuzz... they are seriously debated in the web, currently i like hot fuzz better, but honestly both are great.

    • @scyphe
      @scyphe 3 года назад

      @@szepi79 Well, in the end it comes down to personal preference/subjective opinion. As far as my personal enjoyment ranking I'd put Shaun first, World's End second and Hot Fuzz last. They're all good so it's more a question of "Okay, I feel like watching a movie in the cornetto trilogy" and which one I'd like to watch most from a purely personal perspective.

    Hot Fuzz is one of the movies which i'll pick up above Princess Bride. But i think both are equally good. I prefer this a tiny bit more. Because i prefer crime and mystery setting over medieval romance. But both are great movies. So rewatchable.

    OMG so excited for this reaction before I've even watched it. I love the Cornetto Trilogy films so much (and everything else Edgar Wright has directed). As a gamer you HAVE to watch Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, along with Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead and The World's End! All of them!! Also, the Santa that stabs Nicolas in the hand is director Peter Jackson, and his girlfriend is an uncredited Cate Blanchett. The jumping over the fence scene is an update on the same scene in Shaun of the Dead, and many of the NWA members are well-known British actors who starred in films like 'The Wicker Man' (the original), 'The Exorcist' (the original), etc.

      There are many more than that too, the trilogy has many of the same actors appearing in all three and almost the entire cast of Spaced (the bbc show Pegg, Frost, and Wright made before the movies) appears across the trilogy. Katy Carmichael is the only one who never appeared for whatever reason

      @@SuperTicklemonsters - Yeah, absolutely. So many great cameos, especially in Shaun of the Dead with characters from Spaced, and a lot of the zombies were fans of the show who go to be in the movie. Chris Martin from Coldplay is a zombie in one scene at the end, as well.
