Great video man, appreciate you going so in-depth with details. Really helping out the community with this type of content. Thanks for the shoutout!!!
Always love man! I appreciate you
Thanks for the video, I can’t wait to purchase mine now seeing this! I’m going to be using mine for Live streaming reaction videos and FL studio music production live in twitch! So excited, thanks for the video again! Good luck on all of your success as well! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💯💯💯🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Hell yeah! Thank you. Get after it and good luck!
Thanks for sharing this info!
You’re very welcome!
You the goat bro
🙌🏻
Best explanation about streaming with Mac mini and PlayStation I’ve ever seen. Great job man
That’s very sick of you to say!!! Thanks so much man.
Yes sir! Thanks for this
You’re very welcome!!!
Greatly appreciate the video. I just bought my mac mini m1 now i can get on streaming and recording.
Awesome!
complete helpful video
Thank you!!!
So Happy I found this video!! I recently bought and Mac mini M1 and I have dying to figure out to use it for streaming purposes! You were my confirmation lol thanks!
That’s awesome! Yeah they work great, let me know if you have any questions or issues when you’re setting everything up. Have fun!
@@JimMadden thanks brother! Appreciate it
Hey Bro so I set up everything, Im have some issues with lagging on my twitch stream... any help with this
Really appreciate it
Wow. Bro I just found your channel & am feeling like a million bucks. I have been trying to optimize my setup (Xbox One S + Macbook Air M1) & I've made good progress, then basically took 2 steps back.... then closer to ideal.... it's been a process. I am grateful to have come across your channel, & would like to thank you for putting this valuable information out. Cheers man
That’s amazing! I’m glad I could help, not a ton of resources on it so I’m happy to get the information out there. Have fun man!
@@JimMadden I ended up buying & building a PC yesterday so now we're able to stream 1080p 60 frames like nothing now. Hope you had a great weekend brother
I’m looking to get a M2 Mac mini to stream and this video helped a lot. Thanks!
You’re welcome! I’m using the new 16” MacBook pro now too, everything works great.
I have a very similar set up with a MacBook Air and Nintendo Switch. Nice work I need to check out that black hole software you mentioned for audio routing.
It’s super helpful! Have fun!
the dab pen LOOL
Hahaha, it’s medicinal.
Thanks for this video (and the other related content); looking at the M1 Mac Mini and seeing a nice sale on the base model. Was really antsy if I should go for the 16GB RAM - esp since you can't upgrade it yourself after the fact. Glad to hear base model seems pretty capable for handling streaming overall.
Yeah I’m happy with it! You can’t go wrong with the bump in memory for sure, but I couldn’t wait the month or so it was to get that so I went with the base model! Make sure the sale is on the M1 too, I’m seeing some people say it’s the “new Mac mini on sale” and it’ll be an older intel model. Have fun!
@@JimMadden yeah, Amazon (not reseller) has the base M1 at $100 off currently...tempting
@@takingshape470 oooooh that’s great! I was able to sneak the $100 apple educational discount too, so that could be an option for you too! If you know anyone that is a teacher or anything they’ll hook you up in store. Just make sure you mention it to them, if they don’t, pick another sales person haha
Hey man got a subscription here. Thanks for this info and also thanks for going into details on the OBS settings. I’m currently streaming using a dedicated PC on a 2 PC setup. I’m actually looking for a video using the Mac mini m1 for a dedicated streaming rig for gaming streaming 1080p 60 FPS and at least 6000 kbps bitrate! Your video is perfect for what I’m looking for. I want to change to a Mac because I need the space it can give me with Mac mini being so “mini” compared to my current tower style streaming PC. I know this is probably a dumb question but how is the quality of the stream after so many months of using it? Did you encounter some major problems so far? I will use it to stream games on Facebook and to livestream videos on RUclips. Thanks again and appreciate your work. JC here all the way from the Philippines.
Hey JC thanks for the kind words! So I never ran into any issues at all, it holds up quite well. I will say however, I’ve never streamed games FROM the Mac mini other than web based games like GeoGuessr so I can’t promise it can keep up quality and quantity. I don’t imagine Facebook games use up a ton of computing power so it should be fine? I would maybe suggest the 16GB RAM version for you just to make sure! Apple memory is worth the money, but I find the storage isn’t. You can use external drives or something else for much cheaper. Hope this helps!
@@JimMadden thanks for replying. I’m not streaming Facebook games actually. I stream flight simulators like xplane11 and Microsoft flight simulator as a sort of educational stream since I fly airliners as a profession. The Mac will be a dedicated streaming pc just in case and probably something that I will use to edit podcasts and other audio stuff. Appreciate your work man. It is really helpful. Hope you post more videos in the future.
@@CaptainJCRage oh sorry! I read that wrong, I understand what you’re saying now. Yeah that sounds awesome! Feel free to drop back in with any questions you may have as they come up too.
@@JimMadden hey man. Just an update. I bought the entry level M1 mac mini and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. Streaming 1080P 60fps at 9000Kbps using OBS Studio. I’m using the Hardware encoder. Everything is reliable with no problem at all. Thanks!!!
@@CaptainJCRage that’s awesome!!! Have fun!
What can I see an example of live stream ?
This is honestly soo amazing!! It’s pretty rare to see people using Apple products when streaming and since I also mainly have Apple products, I’d assume that I’d feel quite lost using a PC since I haven’t used one for the longest time. Haha!
Great video by the way! Do you think that this set-up might work but with a Nintendo Switch instead of a PlayStation? Please let me know, Thank you!!
Edit: also fellow Canadian here! Goodluck on your journey! ^_^
Hey thanks so much for the kind words! There will always be the PC/Mac debate from so many angles but at the end of the day, a computer is a computer and you can make them work to your advantage if you need to. This will absolutely work with a switch! Everything the exact same but the capture card into the switch instead, have fun!
Very nice presentation. Mac mini has only 2 thunderbolt is there a way to add more thunderbolt?
Your two videos were very enlightening to what I was looking for a out the M1 Mac Mini as a possible replacement to my potato laptop so I could handle everything in just one PC. Now my question is what is Blackhole, how does it work and what you're using it for?
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah the mini is quite capable. So Apple has some weird built in security where you can’t stream outgoing audio easily. Blackhole allows you to adjust in/out audio however you need. I have a video on it actually if that helps! I used it so I could use discord instead for game chat, still hear my game, but stream the game and voice audio all at the same time.
Good detail, watched most of your other video on the M1 and streaming. I have a 2015 macbook pro that i've been trying to stream 1080p on and i cant get it. I see now that with Mac and stremlabs you cant, thanks to your info i'm going to try obs studios when i get home!
Thank you! Good luck with everything. I know when I tried an intel based Mac it immediately ramped the fan and temperature up, but the newer OBS helps my CPU usage so it may help yours too. Let me know how it goes!
Gonna revisit my settings, I have an imac 2020 and am only able to output 720p30 from OBS. Really want to get it to 1080/60. Thanks for the video!
No problem! Good luck!
I have a Mac for work. And I play on PC. Then I looked at my Mac and I said… oh I can stream with that 😄. Good explanations!!
Hell yeah! Have fun!
3 game captures, 3 webcams and 3 mics the m1 Mac mini doesn’t even flinch😂😂😂
Hell yeah!
Aye just picked I’m my M1 Mac mini thanks for the inspo let’s play COD 😄
Siiiick! Rip it!
Fun video to watch! Thx for sharing. I use 1 mic (SM7B) that allows me to talk both to Stream & in-game PS5 players. If you are interested in seeing that setup on windows/goxlr, give it a look. I’m here because I am setting up a secondary setup using my M1 as the stream PC. Thx!
Do you have a video showing your M1 setup?? I just subscribed as well! Good luck as well!
Hey Jim! After watching your videos on this topic I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my Mac Mini 16GB. It should be here by next week 🤞 Any recommendations on a mid level camera?
That’s awesome! You’ll love it. Mid level, possibly a used a6x00? X is a variable that can be changed out. You can sometimes find those alpha models with a wide lens like an 18mm or 24mm for quite affordable! There’s also very good 1080 webcams out there for under $100 but I don’t have one personally. Best bet is to pop into some streams with lower viewers and ask the streamer who’s camera you seem to like too!
Hello, may i know if the microphone could be connected directly to the M1 Mac? Or do you need to go through the sound card?
My main mic is directly into the Mac! If it’s usb/usb-c it works great.
i have been struggling to use chat .. i hate having so many cords ... the chat link cable is annoying can you tell me more about black whole?
It’s very annoying! I actually have a video all about using blackhole if you check my channel on how to stream your macs internal audio!
Great video. I already own a MacBook M1 Air and a Camlink. I am thinking about using it for a portable Nintendo Switch stream. Have you tried to use a Camlink for your camera? The video output using the usb is subpar. Maybe only getting 20 fps and a camlink would be better if the M1 can handle two capture devices.
FYI there was a great video by Linus Tech Tips on getting better thermals from a MacBook M1 Air but sacrificing the ability to put the computer on your lap.
Oh cool! No I haven’t tried Camlink, but it may be worth a shot. I actually have an M1 MacBook Pro now as well so I may try to set something else up using the laptop with a cheaper webcam or something.
@@JimMadden Also with an iphone you can directly connect the phone to the computer and use it as the webcam. There is also the EpocCam software that you can use either wirelessly or connected. Don't remember if that had the same frame rate issues as the sony usb did.
@@mobilechaosyt yeah I’ve heard of that as well, lots of options out there
7:15 I also have Mac Mini M1 base model but I do not have the option for Apple VT Hardware Encoder or Software Encoder, the only option I have is x264
Ah i see, i had to change output mode to Advanced, now it shows me the option
@@meta7gear Okay great! Glad you found it
Would you recommend the base model for a similar streaming setup or is it worth the 16GB Ram upgrade?
The only reason I didn’t go with the upgrade is because I would’ve had to wait 3+ weeks at the time. I never have issues but I’m sure the upgrade is worth it! From my experience with Apple, memory is worth it, storage isn’t. Hope this helps!
Could you also explain black hole further with regards to game chat?
So I still use this whole set up, but I have a second mic into my PS4 for in game chat now. So most of my homies I play with are on discord, but if they just have a PS4 and a headset I can still talk to them with that second mic in game, and my stream will still pick up their voices without doubling mine up. It just kind of worked, I didn’t think it would nor did I try to make it work on purpose haha
thanks for this I used this video to set my stream up however I use a ps5 and a wireless headset do you know how I can make a work around that because there is no audio from my capture card to my Mac even though I can hear
Hmm, so there’s no audio to your stream from your ps5? Is that what you mean?
Hi! Awesome video, though I am a bit of a fail of understanding most computer things I was wondering something. Will be new to streaming once I get everything but was curious about your thoughts on if the base model would be good for streaming switch games and maybe some Xbox one games? Mostly switch, if I'm honest. Wouldn't really be used for anything else, and hooked up to my tv.
Yeah absolutely! I’m using the base model in this video and if you just replace my ps4 with your switch or Xbox, and my monitor with your tv it’d be identical!
@@JimMadden So, sorry if this is all written out and spoken but I've just spent hours trying to learn computer stuff, haha. All I would need is the mini. The elgato capture card that is connected to the switch/Xbox by hdmi , as well as one to the tv. The capture is connected to the mini by the usb-c? I have a cheap mic that goes on the shirt, and was thinking of using iPhone as cam. Going kinda crazy cheap on things when I can, but saw that some people bought hubs/dongles (hope that's the right word) to plug into.. is that really needed or is that if one isn't paper clip and shoe stringing everything together? Sorry for so many questions! I'm pretty much a rock when it comes to understanding this sort of stuff.
@@theycallmeashe no problem at all! Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. So yes you’d need your consoles, your tv or monitor, your Mac mini, then an elgato HD60S+ (specifically this model) and you should be fine. I never used a hub or dongle to extend my ports, the Mac mini had enough ports for everything I needed. The only thing I will say, is if you have a lav mic, it probably just plugs in with a 3.5mm right? Like a headphone jack? That won’t work into the Mac mini itself, you’ll need a usb mic to set up to stream. They’re getting very cheap as well, my first one was $35-40 on Amazon. Let me know if you need any more help!
Hey I’m sorry to be a pain you probably answer this already in the comments but you can run 1080p for your live stream right or does it only do 720p? I did saw in your video 7:35 that you have 1080p but i kept seeing in the comments 720p and another thing when you mean base model you mean the one that is 8gb and 256 gb storage?
Not a pain at all! I can get 1080 no problem streaming, it’ll depend on internet though as well but I can sit at 6000 bitrate and stream at 1080p, at 60 frames consistently. And yes! Base model meaning the cheapest option, 8GB ram and 256GB storage.
@@JimMadden ok i gotcha thank you very much i appreciate it
I’m using streamlabs obs. My camera image looks sharp on slobs but once I record image looks fuzzy, quality drops. I’ve done many changes on settings and can’t seem to find an answer. Any help? Could it be my cable from camera to mini.
Hmm strange, I havent used Streamlabs much. Maybe there is an output setting for recording?
@@JimMaddenI've tried many different settings, but no luck. Im having to lean towards Ecamm Live. The image looks sharp compared to Slobs.
@@RenierAraya what camera are you using? again, I dont use SLOBS because I found it much less quality in general so I can only help so much, have you tried OBS Studio?
Amazing video. Exactly what I was looking for. I play Valorant and want to be absolutely sure about streaming at 1080@60 to twitch. I read many blogs saying that you don't need a GPU in your dedicated streaming PC. Well it turns out that they were wrong because I tried using such a PC. After that I added a low end GPU GT730, still I can't stream at 1080@60. I had to lower the resolution to 720@60. But if I add some transitions, I start getting dropped frames. It's a nightmare getting my stream running smoothly. So the M1 mac mini will be sufficient for my needs?
It may be able to solve that! I don’t use a dedicated gaming pc so I don’t want to promise anything, but if you’re able to screen or window capture it should be able to keep up with the game. I will say however, people will much prefer to watch a stable 720@30 stream than an unstable 1080@60, I learned that at the beginning when I was chasing the best quality I could. So just know that while you sort it out! Also, you have 14 days to fully return the Mac mini if it’s bought from Apple to give it a try.
@@JimMadden So you don't stream your games from the M1 Mac mini?
@@fategaming1801 the Mac mini handled the stream yes! But not the gameplay.
A dedicated streaming computer can use the CPU thats why all say we don´t need a dedicated GPU. It make no sense streaming in 1080p@60 on Twitch if you are not a partner. Save bandwith and got to other resolution like 936p and 30 fps.
did you use a usb c hub since the usb ports on the mac mini m1 dont play well with m1? if so what model
No hub! Just used the m1 itself, I think one of my usb 3s was into an adapter for type c though because I didn’t have enough.
Hey man i was looking into this video and wanted to know if you were still till this day using the M1 as your streaming PC. I have one but didnt know if it runs obs well or not
I use an M2 now, actually just uploaded a new video showing the changes, but it should work fine!
Haha since you filmed this video v27 came out officially (not longer an RC). I'd suggest grabbing it. xD
It was actually filmed right before, so we’re off the RC now! Changing the description, thanks :)

@@JimMadden Also: github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/27.0.0 would be better IMO... more direct.
Dude….I ended up here trying to find how to get rid of this elgato chat link cable! Please do a video on that. And what peripherals are you using to plug all of that into your Mac mini?
I have one! 2 videos technically, one on how to use discord with console, and one showing you how to stream your internal audio. Those plus this one shows how I got rid of my chat link cable, yes I have 2 mic’s, but with the cheap USB mic’s out there it’s not a big deal! Also, I use all the ports in the back, no adapters or anything but pretty much everything is used up haha
@KBreezyTV I've create a (poorly done 😉) video on how to not use the elgato chat link cable, while using a mini jack or USB headset, and still get the PS4/5 audio to OBS. Instead you need another controller and a mini jack to mini jack cable. @Jim Madden sorry for writing about my video in our chat, just trying to give another point of view. Great video BTW.
What software are you using for your phone to be used as webcam?
Sony imaging with some settings changed in-camera! Most mirrorless cameras can act as a webcam with some tweaks.
Great video question 🙋🏾♂️ tho cuz I have a IMAC 🖥 M1 16g ram 1T hard drive
So my question is
Can I use my iMac as a monitor too if I get a Mac mini jus to stream street fighter from my PS4/ps5 wen I get one ☝🏾
I think you can actually! Look up how to use your iMac as a console monitor and there may be something you have to do, but you should be able to!
Good afternoon, can you configure the avatars stream on this pc? Because obs doesn't have the (game input) to be able to stream
I’m sorry I don’t understand what you’re asking!
Thanks bro for your video and all your advice. I have quite the same set up than you with Mac mini M1. The only problem that I have is streaming with chat audio (exemple in Warzone) while using my headphone directly related to my controller with the elgato chat link. It doesn't work and it's "cutting" the output sound on obs.. So I would be very interested to see how you've made it 🤔
Hmm, that’s strange. I used to have it the same way and it worked fine. I had the elgato chat link cable to my controller and headset, then my stream could hear my party chat. I’d just make sure you have audio from the mic/aux meter in OBS? Elgato also has a great video using the cable, maybe there’s something small missing. Let me know and I’ll try to help further!
@@JimMadden what do you mean by "audio from the mic /aux obs"? 😅 I mean, i follow every steps of the Elgato video, chat link well connected, then they say to go on "elgato game capture Card" to activate "analog" (which I've ready donew even if in their video they show pc version and not talking about Mac (less settings)).
Do I have to create a new output sound in obs? Do I have to do something with the "Midi sound settings on Mac"?
Sorry for all the questions Jim! It's making me crazy and would love to work 🙃
@@Goyorototo yeah that’s strange, I remember it being very easy and it sounds like you’ve done everything correctly. I wonder if maybe the cable is not working? Have you talked to their support? I’ll look a bit today at how I did it and see if there’s something random in there.
in the meantime, check this video thoroughly and make sure all of your bases are covered. I followed this step by step and it worked great. ruclips.net/video/kJAzQCGMZL0/видео.html
Hey man, how long is your desk? and how tall is it off the ground. Thank you so much
Hey! So I actually made my desk. It’s made from IKEA Hilver legs which are 27.5” tall, and a Besta wood top panel which is 47 1/4x16 1/2”. Hope this helps!
The Mac mini you are using is the basic one or the 16 gb ram?
Base model! 8GB
Yooo, is the rendering time for ur Mac mini pretty good? Debating on getting the Mac mini or build a pc to stream my ps5 gameplay and to edit videos to post on RUclips.
Rendering time is extremely quick, 4K 5 minute video is only a few minutes so any game capture is a breeze. Search for a RUclips channel called Max Tech, he compares the Mac mini with 8GB and 16GB and shows specific render times on each of them too. The 8GB was great and cheaper, I only thought about the 16GB briefly but it seems unless you need 8K raw video processing, 8GB is more than enough.
@@JimMadden one more thing if u don’t mind. Are both monitors able to use with pc purpose meaning could u have two separate windows open on each monitor? Or does on monitor only work with pc and the other solely for PS4?
@@BradahSmokey the way mine is set up, one is dedicated to the PS4 and one is dedicated to the Mac mini. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t have multiple monitors for just the computer though, you can definitely have more than one, but I think you’d either have 2 and not be gaming, or you’d need 3 monitors.
Hey man nice vid! Is your stream smooth ? Because I want to get into Mac but I am afraid streaming apps aren’t well optimised
I never had issues! 1080@60fps very reliably. I also had a solid internet connection which is important! OBS version 27 made a big difference for Mac users as far as computing usage so I found it very smooth and consistent!
@@JimMadden what are your recommended specs for optimized internet?
@@guzmani4943 what do you mean? What specs as far as internet connection? Or what specs to use if you have great internet?
Yoo bro. So are you able to stream 1080p at 60fps and record at the same time with no problem?!
I can! I don’t do it often or for super long, but my experience has been fine. It would definitely depend on how long you do it for, but if you were on top of starting and stopping it I’m sure it’s fine!
hello, when I use de hardware encoder, my stream don't start on twitch, that ever happen to you?
I never had that no! Sorry, does the other encoder work?
Whst are your speakers hooked into the mac or game elgato
I don’t have speakers, just the headset which is plugged into the computer.
Is an elgato needed to stream through obs from a MacBook?
I don’t believe so! Just to capture external gameplay from a console
Do you have a usb or hdmi hub to get everything plugged into the Mac mini, or does it have enough ports? I just bought a Mac mini to start streaming (as a beginner), so I'm wondering if I'm going to need to buy a hub.
Thanks for this awesome video, it's such a huge help!
Everything included in this is plugged straight into the Mac mini with no dock or hub!
Awesome, thanks so much for a quick reply! Hopefully all goes well, just waiting on my Elgato capture card!
@@smfernandez96 hell yeah! Have fun! Stop back in if you have any questions at all :)

That is frustrating! Which model do you have? Also, what computer?
I have same problem. M1 mini 16gb Using ps5 though. I have everything else the same as your setup. Curious if you or community got any help on correct capture cards for ps5-m1? Cheers dude

What field of view can you use on warzone with this Mac ?? And what’s the max fps that it could go to because I have a 144 monitor
The mac isn’t running warzone! It can’t unfortunately.
So do you not use a chat link anymore?
Not at all! I found it pretty bad. It lowered my audio quality by a lot when using it.
Will it handle 4k DJ streaming ? M1 Macbook or Mac mini ?
From a camera? I’m not sure actually since I never pushed for more than 1080p, I don’t doubt it can handle it if you have the right gear and internet though! But it can definitely handle 1080p which is usually more than enough for streaming to people!
hey, back again, I've been using this perfectly for so long but its fucked now my stream crashes after a few minutes every time pls I need help
Oh no! All I can suggest is to make sure everything’s updated, remove scenes and overlays you’re not using. Might need to remake some or reinstall in general?
Do you use both mics at the same time or one for each function like one for party chat and one for commentary?
So my main mic is just to the stream and discord, the second mic is turned off unless I need to speak in-game, then I can turn the volume up and have in game chat audio.
So me plugging in my Blue Yeti to the PS4 with a headset plugged into the PC didnt work no game audio and the Elgato chat link game audio was very low. So the the only way to fo it is to buy another mic and hook it to the Mac? That will give me game audio as well?
@@WorldofLexgaming so I have a USB mic into my computer, and a USB mic into my PlayStation. I have my input for game chat as the PS4 USB mic, but I chat to my friends in discord over the computer with my main/stream mic. Then my headset pulls audio from OBS so I can hear the game and in game chat, but discord audio is on its own. I know it’s a lot…sorry. I don’t use the chat link cable anymore at all.
@@JimMadden ok bro so you are running discord for game audio please school me on this because there aren’t alot of Mac users out there
@@WorldofLexgaming I hear you man! So I have my headphones running straight to my computer now, I have to have OBS open to hear the game that way. I have a video on using Discord with Console that will help explain it. The only downside is I didn’t have in-game chat, but now with 2 mics I have that. The reason I did it is because the elgato chat link cable made my headphones quieter with lower quality audio!
Heya! I stream on a Macbook Air M1, when I output 1080p60, the mac gets really hot. If i continue to stream 1080p60 will it affect the mac entirely?
I’m not sure if an air would be a great long term choice, especially at full quality. You can keep an eye on the CPU usage in OBS, and keep your activity monitor handy for everything as well. If it starts to effect it negatively make sure you have it looked at within warranty!
Hey man! I’ve mimicked this set up, minus the mics so far, I’m just having a hard time pulling the party chat audio to the stream. I have Astro A50s for headset. I have video from game, video from webcam, and game audio, just no party chat audio. Just unsure of what step to take next that would fix this issue.
I’m also running an Xbox series X and not a PS4/5 and there’s no videos on RUclips that addresses the issue I’m having with the exact equipment I have. This is the closest thing 😅
@@darrellray5575 hey man! It sounds like you may need an elgato chat link cable? Can you hear the party chat in your headset okay and it just doesn’t play in your stream?
@@darrellray5575 if you’re streaming from console set your party chat to come through your tv speakers and headset. This will push the party chat audio over hdmi and will get picked up with your game audio on your capture card. Downside is it’s all one audio channel but it works
How is your Sony Connected to your Mac? and what software is used is it just auto detected with OBS?
I used Imaging Edge! Once you have it set up it’ll detect it as a camera source. Take a quick search for “use sony camera as webcam” and it’ll help with menu settings.

@@frmtheden no problem! I had mine plugged into my computer via USB. Make sure to use the cable it came with so it provides power as well as data transfer. Never had an issue that way at all! Also, that was my exact thought and why I just used my A7iii instead of buying another camera.
So basically OBS is working as it has the hardware encoder options but Streamlabs does not
At the point of this video, yes! I haven’t looked into stream labs in a long time but I know it was on their radar to have updates to help with apple users. I just never got more than 720p
Hi Jim! Can you tell me how do you connect your stream mic, DSLR and the Elgato into your mac mini, please? I'm using mac mini too. My problem is that my stream mic and camera would go into the two USB ports and I tried connecting the Elgato HD 60S+ through USB C type to USB C type into my mac mini, but this gives me only black screen in OBS, so therefore I can connect my Elgato only into the USB port, but then I can't connect my mic or camera in there.... Thanks for your help in advance :)
Hey! So my mic and camera went into the regular USB ports while my elgato went into the USB C port. Which elgato do you have?
@@JimMadden Problem solved!! :) Found out the usb-c cable caused the issue. Got another one and all good now. LOL. Thanks for the answer and help too :)
@@kingwick3d631 oh perfect!!! Glad it’s working. Have fun!
Are you using the 256gb or 512gb mac mini?
Just the base 256!
you ever consider a less professional camera set up?
Absolutely! I had this one kicking around so I used it, but I’ve since then stopped streaming. I might pick it back up again once a week and I’d definitely just find a decent 1080 webcam.
Hi,
is the FiFine mic just plug and play in mac mini M1?
Thank you in advance
It is! I have 2 and they’re great mic’s. Easy plug and play on all machines.
@@JimMadden thank you.
@@tomiomio you’re welcome!
So I have a dilemma what would be the best possible way for me and my wife to start a gaming stream? We’re thinking about streaming gaming together I have a pc and on her side she games on a Xbox seres s and she also has a m1 Mac mini. What would be the best way to have both gameplays and both face cams setup wise with what we have. If you happen to reply thank you so much for taking your time to respond.
Hey! So I think it’d be straight forward, you’d just add more sources and arrange windows? I can’t imagine it’s any different than how I have mine set up! You may need some sort of hub for more ports though
Is it able to do 4K streaming and 4K recording
I don’t know actually, possibly! Depending on internet speeds. Sharp and reliable 1080 is perfectly fine to start with though
@@JimMadden cool bro, I wanted to see if it can push 4k 60 FPS
Do you use a cam link for your sony?
No I didn’t! I used the Sony imaging capture software
@@JimMadden I thought its necessary to get the best quality?
@@barcauniversum I never had an issue with quality just using the software and a usb cable! Never used a cam link once so I can’t compare, but I couldn’t have asked for better quality for my face cam really.
Hi Jim.i have one question is mac mini m1 good for high graphcis games stream And can i use any mouse and keyboard on mac mini or only apple
Do you mean to play games off the actual Mac mini? That I don’t know too well, and yes any USB or Bluetooth connected devices should work!
I bought the Razer combo pack at Costco and it works well on my M1 Mac Mini
@@GG-si7fw that’s great! Have fun!
Hey Jim, I am wondering should I consider switching from my Macbook Pro to the M1 Mac Mini for streaming?
Good question! I haven’t actually used the MacBook Pro for streaming, but if it’s not M1 and a bit older it might help with performance. I know they usually heat up quite a bit. Might be worth a shot!
@@JimMadden When I try to steam with my Mack book pro. It usually freezes and the frames are bad and makes the video quality choppy and blurry sometimes
@@Set42 what model and year is it?
@@JimMadden It's a 2020 mac pro i5 core processor and I have 16 GG ram
I meant GB my bad not GG
I keep getting a green tint flashing on the screen that fades in and out when I'm using OBS.. Do you know what my issue might be? I'm trying to capture footage of my PS5.
Hmm, I haven’t used a ps5, but that seems really strange. Could it at all be a scene trying to load or change? Is it a solid colour or just almost like a green shade over your gameplay?
@@JimMadden like a green shade, and now I'm not even pulling in signal from the PS5 and I have HDCP turned off of course. Could it be I have the new 14 inch MBP M1 pro chip?
@@HanginWithTy oooh I wonder? You got all the new new running. Do you have an older mac to just check the connection? Are you running the HD60S+?
@@JimMadden yeah I think its cause the new Montery OS now that I think about and OBS doesn't probably support it yet. I do have an old Mac I guess I could try haha
@@HanginWithTy yeah I’m wondering if OBS might need to get something together. They weren’t far behind with the original M1. Check into GitHub and stuff to find RC versions of OBS before the final release too, I was running 27 for a while before it came out and it helped with mac users big time. Keep me posted too, that’s interesting.
What kind of specs is on your M1 Mac mini
Base model! 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
Awesome thank you!
Is your Mac mini 8GB Ram?
Yep
Why do you have 2 mics
It’s explained in the video, one mic is to the computer so I can use discord, one is into the ps4 for game chat.
Hey I have the old Elgato HD capture card, would this still work?
In my experience, no. I tried the HD60S and it never worked, once I got the plus version it worked right away. Hope this helps!
Thank you Jim
Yo man , I just stumbled across your video .
I have a Mac mini M2 Chip ( 8g )
I’m looking to start streaming , and I have a elgato HDx capture card .
I use OBS studio
I set my stuff up and everything is working fine .
But once I load up MLB
My screen goes black but I still can see it in OBS
And a message pops ups saying something about 1920/1080 60hz
So is there something I’m doing wrong ?
Hmm, I’ve never seen that. Do other games work?
@@JimMadden yeh I tried madden 23 and it worked perfectly!
, I tried COD and it works but my screen is like cut up if that makes since and when I try MLB is goes completely black.
I was thinking maybe it might be the actual monitor
But I have 2 Samsung I got from Walmart
Now I’m not saying they aren’t gaming monitor but they don’t specifically say gaming monitor
It just says Samsung so and so
But I was thinking about getting a monitor that actually said gaming monitor on it to see it that would help but then I thought about it ,
Madden was working just fine so idek bro
@@Ninety5Media it may be that, newer games might need a minimum spec to run smoothly, and once you have a capture card attached and everything it seems to pull some of the resources. Sorry I couldn't help more!
@@JimMadden all good bro ,
I appreciate you ,
An I rock wit your content for sure !
Hey man I want to stream Pubg mobile on Facebook & RUclips at the same time can I do it from mac mini?
Hey there! I am not sure how that would work actually, I’ve personally never tried either of them on their own let alone at the same time. Sorry I can’t help with that one specifically! It’ll definitely handle one of them no problem, i just don’t know how the CPU would react trying to do both.
@@JimMadden Even if I can stream on Facebook alone it works for me.
Btw thanks man
@@Parth.Sharma oh that shouldn’t be an issue at all! Good luck! Apple takes returns within 14 days too, so put it to the test quickly! Have fun
Hey man. I wanna get the M1 Pro. This is not a Mac Mini, can it pump out the same streaming performance?
Hey! The MacBook Pro? I’ve heard it can handle it, the biggest thing about previous MacBooks was they got so loud and hot it effected the stream, but I’ve heard the M1 MacBook Pro performs fine! I just don’t know from personal experience, good luck!
@@JimMadden so you were able to stream your game no problem? On your mini
@@ThaThree I don’t play games from the mini, I use a PlayStation. I use the mini to capture the game and manage the stream no problem.

@@ThaThree I think it’ll be great! Have fun!
So you're using the 8gb Mac mini?
That’s right!
@@JimMadden how much are you doing with transitions and overlays? I'm curious because the green screen and animated overlays are what start to drop frames on my MacBook pro
@@DawkinsPlays I had a decent amount of scenes and overlays, some with animation, never had an issue. Since this video I’ve actually stopped streaming for the most part; but it definitely handled it for what I used it for! I’m sure there would be some limitations eventually. You could always jump to the 16GB for not a huuuuge amount more?
Hey man! Do you think the base model M1 MacBook Air is enough to do what you do with your set up??
Hey! I don’t know about that actually, personally I don’t THINK it could handle it as easily, as smoothly, and for as long, but I could be wrong! I know of people using a MacBook Pro though. Good news is you could try an air and return it to apple within 14 days and reevaluate if needed haha
It appears to be choppy coming from your main camera.
Just some codec issues every once in a while using a Sony to record.
